Phone case with water inside. Fashionable iPhone cases cause chemical burns

More than 260 thousand cases have been recalled in the United States. Users from different countries have complained about liquid filler leaking. In addition to burns, it causes an allergic reaction and irritation.

iPhone cases recalled due to chemical hazard

About 260 thousand iPhone cases have been recalled from sale in the United States. This decision was made by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The reason was complaints from dozens of users from several countries, some of them residents of the United States. They stated that accessories sold under the recognizable brands Henri Bendel, Tory Burch and Victoria's Secret cause allergic reactions and irritation after leakage of the glitter liquid inside.

“One consumer reported permanent scarring from a chemical burn, and another reported chemical burns and swelling of the legs, face, neck, chest and upper body and arms,” the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a press release.

During the investigation, it turned out that the dangerous cases were manufactured by MixBin Electronics. The company has already promised users that it will return money for purchases and will also cover all medical expenses in the United States.

The danger comes from the glittery liquid inside the cases.

In the USA alone, 263 thousand chemical cases were sold. They were sold in brand stores and on the websites of Henri Bendel, Tory Burch and Victoria's Secret, in the manufacturer's online store, as well as on Amazon. A small batch was also available in the British eBay store, but they were removed from sale after the intervention BBC journalists The retailers themselves declined to comment.

What other problems arise with iPhone

This problem was not the first that users encountered when using the iPhone. In February of this year, the media reported about a Florida resident who left her iPhone 6 Plus on charge overnight with her home, after which a fire occurred.

Four months earlier, an American student suffered an explosion from an iPhone that was in the back pocket of his jeans. The device self-destructed during a lecture at the university.

Even earlier, an iPhone 6 left an Australian cyclist with burns on his thigh. After he fell off his bike, his smartphone exploded in his pocket and burned. There are several similar cases in China.

Less ominous problems also remain in history: this year, more than 88 thousand copies of the iPhone 6s, in which defective batteries led to the sudden shutdown of smartphones. And in 2013, a limited number of iPhone 5s suddenly lost capacity, forcing them to be charged more often.

For my Huawei phone nova 2, it’s very difficult to buy a normal case in the store, they simply don’t exist. When I first bought the phone, the store had a case for 800 rubles. It looks ordinary, the quality is Chinese, you can find one on Ali for 100 rubles.

I won’t say that I didn’t have money for it, I wouldn’t mind paying 1000 rubles or more for a good case, but I didn’t find any.

All the cream of the crop for cases are made for iPhones!) That's why it would be more convenient to buy yourself an iPhone

I hoped so much that beautiful and comfortable cases would soon appear for my phone, but a miracle did not happen. The only case I found was blue, of course I bought it, but my phone looked cheap in it, it was terrible, and the case itself was not comfortable.

I am still in favor of the case not hiding the body/color of the phone (its zest and originality) and at the same time protecting it from possible falls.

I don’t really like ordering things on Ali, because... The wait is very long, and things don’t always arrive, especially small ones.

I went to Ali and started looking at what was there for my phone. I came across a huge variety of cases, and I was surprised by the price...well, it was very cheap when compared to the prices they sell for here.

And then I accidentally saw cases with liquid inside! It immediately reminded me of my childhood, and keychains with hearts and a dolphin inside

Its price was approximately 200 rubles. Without hesitation, I chose a color and put the case in the cart.

I had thoughts that the case would come not for my phone, but for some iPhone, or the Chinese would screw it up and it would either be big or small.

Production - China.

Price - 200 rub.

Bought - on Aliexpress.

Case for phone - Huawei Nova 2.

Delivery.

The case took a long time, 1.5 months. I basically wasn’t expecting him anymore. But this is not yet the longest delivery, sometimes parcels took more than 3 months, or did not arrive at all.

I picked up the case myself at the post office. Might as well Mailbox throw it, but the parcel was too “plump”.

The case was wrapped in bubble wrap and packed very well, despite the fact that its price was only 200 rubles.

Appearance.

Came intact, no scratches or flaws. The shape was also good, nothing was wrinkled during transportation. There wasn't even a plastic smell!

The holes all matched one to one.

Putting the case on the phone was not difficult, and it was also easy to remove. But at the same time, it fits very, very tightly, which made me very happy.

What I liked.

The case fits perfectly, all holes are located correctly. It fits snugly on the phone, making it easy to take off and put on.

The quality is very good, dense material, as I understand it is silicone. Quite thick on the sides of the phone, which protects against falls and chips.

The most important! The phone remained the same color as it was, as if you were looking at it through glass.

And the sparkles inside... it's just some kind of magic)) It was immediately so unusual and unusual to see my phone in this form... oh, beauty! For some it may seem childish, but I really like it))

The sparkles are even soothing sometimes, reminiscent of an hourglass. Looking at this miracle, pleasant feelings and memories from childhood come...)

The only thing that is good and at the same time not convenient is the thickness of the phone. The cover doubles the thickness. I liked it, it fits very comfortably in my hand and does not slip.

My phone is thin and I like that too. Sometimes you can remove the case and enjoy all the beauty of the case. True, it is very slippery, and without a cover the likelihood that it will fall out of your hands increases by 60%.

The buttons are all well pressed, but not as easy as it was without the case.

What I didn't like.

The only problem is that due to the thickness, I now cannot use a fingerprint, because... it is at the back. Damn, they came up with the idea...to put a fingerprint on the back, but they didn’t think about the fact that it would be inconvenient to find a normal case. Although I used to like it the other way around

This, of course, is not the fault of the case, but of the phone itself. Nowadays there are fingerprints on the front of almost all phones.

But, my boyfriend easily “leaks” his thumb, everything works well for him, but my thin fingers get in the way of his nails... but don’t cut them off for the sake of it;-D

Conclusion.

The case is excellent, very beautiful and original... it’s a pity you can’t buy one from us, but you have to order from China, and wait a long time, or how lucky)

I give it 5 points, although it’s inconvenient because of the fingerprint, but it’s not the case’s fault.

THE BONUS FOR THIS REVIEW WAS - 3 RUBLES

Phone cases and panels are another way to express yourself. A silicone case with bunny ears is suitable for an informal and extremely fun bachelorette party, and a black matte panel will become indispensable for interviews or negotiations with conservative clients.

Particularly popular are accessories for gadgets that work on the two-in-one principle: such, for example, as transparent cases with inside. However, a recent scandal involving the case manufacturer MixBin clearly demonstrates that such options may not be safe.

“I felt a slight burning sensation throughout the day, but I thought it was it or something like that. That is, something that happens all the time,” says Stephanie. “But when I got home from work and took it off, I saw that my leg had turned bright red and that, obviously, was not entirely normal.” The girl needed a little over a month for treatment, but, unfortunately, a small scar from the burn (see below) will remain with her forever.

Another woman named Melissa told BuzzFeed that she purchased her case on Amazon. She admitted that she first noticed cracks on it, and then realized that her thumb began to hurt unusually. “I touched my case and saw that liquid was gradually oozing from it. It was this that got on the thumb and, since the skin on it was burned, it caused discomfort and pain,” she explains.

Another victim of the shiny cases, a girl named Cassie, remembered hearing something about chemical burns that happen when using accessories with liquid and glitter inside, but did not attach any importance to it and placed an order on the Forever 21 website.

Unlike other victims, Cassie used the phone for about a year without any problems. Until one night she woke up with her right arm “literally on fire.” A few hours later, when the skin had calmed down, she saw that the burn and swelling were a certain form. “When I took the phone in my hand, I realized that they, horror, completely coincide,” says Cassie. The reason was still the same: the plastic casing began to leak.

What about the MixBin reaction? To the manufacturer’s credit, he almost immediately responded to complaints and posted information on his official website that liquid in accessories of this type can cause chemical burns.

According to company representatives, all cases from the “dangerous batch” were sold out, so they are now working with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission ( US Consumer Product Safety Commission) strive to notify buyers of this by offering a full refund in exchange for a photo of the accessory. But information about what the traumatic liquid consisted of, in which the glitter and stars were placed, has not yet been disclosed.

Today, no one will be surprised by the variety of all kinds of bright cases for smartphones. However, manufacturers are constantly “creating” something new that could make the owner stand out from the “gray” crowd, something memorable.

This is exactly what our hero today is - a case with liquid inside and iridescent sparkles.

What does the overflow cover consist of?

The cover consists of two parts: external and internal, which are soldered together, forming space inside.

The inner case is made strictly according to the size of the smartphone, fits very precisely and fits tightly on the model. It contains all the cutouts for the camera, speaker and connectors.

The outer one is larger in size and accommodates the inner insert, while there is a cavity between them, which is subsequently filled with liquid with glitter.

The material of the case is TPU, thermoplastic polyurethane, which can withstand significant loads and does not lose strength.

Between the walls of the case there is a solution of glycerin with purified water, in which various sparkles float.

These can be small particles of irregular shape or larger ones with clear outlines of shapes, for example, stars, hearts, etc.

Fine glitter is more reminiscent of sand, which has a metallic shimmer in bright light.

The walls of such covers can be either completely transparent or with an additional pattern, frame or transparent part of a certain shape.

The finished product has a significant thickness and affects the final dimensions of the device.

Pros of cases with glitter inside

+ Unique design- this case is unlike any other, it always stands out and attracts the attention of others.

+ High degree of protection- in addition to the decorative function, the liquid layer also has a protective effect; the cover is able to absorb impacts, distributing kinetic energy evenly over the entire area.

+ Anti-stress effect- looking at constantly moving sparkles calms you down and helps relieve stress.

Disadvantages of cases with glitter inside

- Large dimensions- due to the thickness of the case, the device itself gains extra millimeters on all sides.

- Risk of piercing the cover- in addition to annoying damage to the case, if there is a puncture, the danger of “flooding” the smartphone with liquid also increases.

- Covers dry out over time- this process is observed during long-term use of the cover and is expressed by the appearance of an air bubble, which grows over time.

- Difficult access to the fingerprint scanner- due to the thickness of the case, the fingerprint scanner is sort of in a hole, and you have to put your finger into it, as it were.
