How to enable handwriting in windows 10. One of the best handwriting apps Nebo is temporarily available for free

On Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14328.

"Hi! My name is Li-Chen Miller and I lead the Windows Ink development team. Today, I'm honored to announce that some of the many features of Windows Ink are now available to Windows Insiders with a fast update cycle. We plan to add a few more features in the coming months. Today's assembly includes a fundamentally new working Windows area Ink Workspace- single center, which contains all the functions for working with the pen. Kind of like the Start menu, only for Windows Ink. Here's what it looks like.

When designing Windows, we have always tried to make human-computer interaction as natural as possible. To make it more convenient to use a digital pen, we came up with and implemented the ability to leave notes directly on web pages in Microsoft Edge, built several specialized features into OneNote. But it's still too difficult for many users to use the pen on Windows. And the complex needs to be simplified. Therefore, in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, we decided to bring the work with a digital pen as close as possible to writing and drawing with a regular pen on paper, and then add superpowers to our “pen”. Working with a digital pen and handwriting is now more natural, which means you will be more productive.

With a pen and Windows Ink, you can bring your wildest ideas to life. Windows Ink is based on two key ideas. First, we want to make inking as easy as possible so that even first-timers can use the pen with confidence. Secondly, we want it to be obvious to people why they should use a pen at all, and once they've tried it, they want to use it on Windows every day. To do this, we needed completely new opportunities.

All children learn to draw and write with pencils and pens, and soon it becomes easy and natural. We want to make the transition from pen and notepad to digital pen in Windows as seamless as possible. That's what Windows Ink technologies are for.

But enough generalities. Let's find out exactly what Insiders saw today.

Meet Windows Ink Workspace

The most important update is the new Windows Ink Workspace. All handwriting-related features and apps are collected here to make them easier to find.

To open Windows Ink Workspace, just click its button on the taskbar or click on the pen base of a new computer. From the built-in pen capabilities (found in Sketchbook, Screen Sketch, and Sticky Notes) to the external apps you might need, we've thoughtfully designed the interface to make sure everything is at your fingertips. For even more convenience, you can even work with Windows Ink Workspace on top of the lock screen. Note that if you don't have an active pen device but want to try out Windows Ink Workspace functionality, you can right-click on the taskbar and select "Show Windows button Ink Workspace. If you don't have a pen at all, you can still use handwriting - with your finger.

Album: space for your ideas and creations

We analyzed what and how people do with pen and paper. Based on this research, we identified three key actions and implemented them in Windows Ink Workspace. It's so easy and natural to sketch or write something on clean slate paper, it's so nice to see your ideas take shape... To bring that feeling to the digital world of Windows, we've created a scrapbook. In it, you'll find a blank space in which to sketch, write down a plan for the day, draw patterns while talking on the phone, or deduce the proof of a theorem. In addition, hand movements will now also be more natural: you can comfortably rest your wrist on the screen, and with your other hand, drag the digital ruler onto the sheet to draw a straight line - just like on paper. And the result of your creativity can be saved and shown to someone.

Screen Sketch: Mark important things and share
New improved notes

Finally, we are drastically changing the notes familiar to everyone. Now you can create and save notes on Windows computers and slightly change them: stretch, reduce, choose a background color. But this will not always be the case. New features will be coming in the coming months. You can turn your notes into reminders that Cortana will announce on different devices. Bing will learn how to intelligently extract objects from notes. You can write down the phone number, and it will immediately prepare for dialing. Brief notes on the run, as if by magic, turn into a list that is easy to edit. You just need to write down the flight number, and Bing will immediately find information about its status. As a result, notes will become much more useful, but using them will be as easy as paper and pen.

Great handwriting apps at your fingertips

And the last one for today. Windows Ink Workspace will bring you the best pen apps based on your interests, as well as the most popular and rated pen apps in the Store. Many users have complained that it's hard to tell which Store apps support the pen. That's why we've added a link that takes you to the Store page, where you'll find all the apps that support your pen. So far, these are mainly applications for artists, but we are actively working on creating more diverse applications for the pen. After all, Windows Ink is not for the elite. Everyone will be able to use handwriting, and the set of applications will reflect this.

Can't find the app you just wrote or drew in? Windows Ink Workspace now includes a recent apps section so you can quickly get back to work you've interrupted.

Pen setup

With this update, customizing your pen experience has never been easier. Choose Settings > Devices > Pen to customize everything from the buttons on your Bluetooth connected pen to the ability to use Windows Ink Workspace without unlocking it. Here you can also choose what actions will be performed by single and double clicks of the pen, as well as by pressing and holding. Now you can work with the pen the way you want!

And this is just the beginning...

Our goal is to create a unique handwriting experience for every user, and we hope we're heading in the right direction. We're just getting started: these are just the first steps on the road to fully functional Windows Ink. Your feedback will help us bring amazing inking experiences to millions of Windows 10 users. Share your feedback in the Feedback Hub or get involved in building ink-enabled apps (dev blog)."

Windows 10 allows you to disable and enable the handwriting panel. it new feature, which you can open with a touch keyboard and type with your fingers or a stylus (pen). In fact, clicking on the handwriting input panel icon on the OSK turns it into text editor. When you type the alphabet or characters, here it will accurately recognize and convert it into the correct form. If you want to turn this panel on or off, Windows 10 includes the option in the app settings. Alternatively, you can do the same with a simple registry tweak. Let's move on to the setup.

Currently this feature will be available for all textboxes in xaml. You can't use the same for Cortana, the address bar for Microsoft Edge, calendar entries, and sending messages via e-mail. But, the technical staff of Microsoft is hard at work trying to implement this feature everywhere in future updates.

But you have another way to enjoy this feature.

This feature is for users who don't like having this in touch devices. Microsoft is committed to making things easier for users, and in the future, you'll only see a text box in the classic handwriting panel with a swipe of the pen. Until then, follow this method and use it with pleasure.

Knowing how to set up Windows 10 is necessary so that the user can set privacy options that will prevent Microsoft from using them for advertising purposes.

Therefore, the process of selecting the necessary settings must begin from the moment the OS is installed and registered.

How to install an operating system?

The installation of the operating system begins with the selection of the required parameter settings. Most users in this case either skip this step, leaving the default settings, or enable all items.

These two options are incorrect, since in the first case, you can enable such functions that will collect personal information from the user, and in the second, in addition, the system will be overloaded with useless parameters during operation.

Advice! When installing, it is better to use a local account, rather than registering your personal account, as this requires entering personal data.

After the OS is installed, you need to configure the privacy settings, you need to do this immediately before you start working and connecting to the network.

Here you can already select those features that were disabled during installation. To do this, go to the "Settings" tab, and then find the "Privacy" item.

In addition, attention should be paid to following settings options in the "Privacy" menu:

  • Speech, handwriting and text input;

All this also applies to menu items such as:

  • "Microphone";
  • "Information account»;
  • "Contacts";
  • "Calendar";
  • "Radio";
  • "Message exchange";
  • "Other devices";
  • Background applications;
    Some programs in Windows 10 work even if the user does not turn them on and does not notice. You can configure the operation of such applications using this menu item.
    Disabling will not only save confidential data, but also the laptop's operating time.

Configuring Updates

In the "Settings" tab there is a separate menu item "Update and Security", where the user can choose how and when to receive updates. Here you need to check the box next to the item "Computers in local network».

Internet network setup

It is through the network, in particular, unknown sources of wireless connection, that confidential user data of Windows 10 can be lost, so it is very important to configure these settings.

To do this, go to the "Manage settings" item. WiFi networks from the Options menu and disable the ability to connect to unknown networks.

Other Useful Windows 10 Settings

Windows 10 allows users to customize almost all systems and programs, customizing the operating system specifically for each person.

Start Menu or Start Button

In the Options menu, there is a Start item. Here the user can configure not only the dimensions, but also the display of the most used applications or the last files that were opened.

Interesting! The Start button, which returned in Windows 10, can now be customized by users, in particular its location relative to screen mode.The desktop can also be customized with respect to the Start button.

Applications

In the "Settings" tab in the "System" menu there is an item "Applications and features". Here you can configure programs, as well as find out how much disk space the software takes.

Some features of the operating system were borrowed from its mobile version, however, in spite of this, personal computers and laptops, they can also be useful. This includes tabs such as:

  • Analysis of the data used;
    There is nothing to configure here, however, the item allows you to see which applications use the most traffic and then delete them if not needed.
  • Saving bacteria.
    You can find the function in the "Parameters" tab, "System" item. Here you can enable a button that allows you to extend the battery life of a device, such as a laptop.
