Remix os installation next to windows. Remix os for pc clean install

Most recently, we wrote to you about. It is worth noting that this is not just an emulator of the most popular OS, but its real desktop version, developed by former Google employees. And finally, you have the opportunity to download it from the official website and install it on your computer. How to do this, read our material.

It is highly desirable to perform all actions on a USB flash drive with a size of at least 8 GB that supports USB 3.0 and has the appropriate write and read speeds (20 Mb / s).

Attention! You perform all actions at your own peril and risk, and we are not responsible for the result and possible malfunctions of your device. Jide notes that on this moment this is only an alpha version of the operating system, and sudden bugs are possible.

In order to install Remix OS on your computer, you need to follow just a few simple steps:

  1. Download the official Remix OS 2.0 distribution from the developer's site: http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc#downloadNow
  2. Run the utility remixos-usb-tool.exe, indicate in it path to the ISO image of the system, select the required USB flash drive and click OK. After the installation is complete, you will have a ready-made bootable USB flash drive with Remix OS!

  3. Now, depending on which computer you are going to run the new OS on, you need to follow certain steps. If you decide to continue the experiment on Windows, you will need to set the USB boot priority in the BIOS. Hold down F12 while turning on the computer (or Option key if you choose to use a Mac) to display the system startup window.
  4. In the menu that appears, you can select two Remix OS startup modes: Guest Mode, where no changes will be saved after turning off the computer, or the usual Resident Mode, which saves all changes and downloaded files when working.

  5. The process of installing Remix OS on a flash drive will take about 15 minutes, after which you will see the long-awaited screen:

If you have a Mac OS X computer but also want to try Remix OS without having to install a second one Windows system for creating bootable flash drive, you can do the following: 1. Download the official Remix OS 2.0 distribution from the developer's site: http://www.jide.com/en/remixos-for-pc#downloadNow
    2. Download the UNetbootin program to create a bootable USB flash drive on Mac OS X
    3. Run the program, select the ISO image of the operating system and the desired USB flash drive (Disk Utility will help you with this), then click OK

    4. Hold down the Option (Alt) key at the moment when the backlight on the black screen lights up after the reboot. Select the USB stick to continue booting the system. Further steps repeat steps 4 and 5 from the above steps for WIndows.

That's all! Yes, it's that simple. Do not forget that at the moment this is just an alpha version of the operating system, and its creators honestly warn about possible bugs. But just imagine what Jide can achieve if we, the users, take a real interest in this operating system and give developers a quality feedback! The operating system is just in its infancy, but already has many advantages and hidden ambitions. Let me remind you of my words: Remix OS is exactly what users expect from Google when they hear about the unification of Chrome OS and Android.

Remix OS is an operating system that is Android with a slightly modified graphical shell. The modified interface allows you to comfortably work with it on desktop devices using a mouse and keyboard. The developers did a good job organizing the interface elements and even added a full-fledged Play Market to the system. You can log in to it under your account and download any applications. Remix OS is potentially capable of running almost all existing applications, but not all of them support mouse control. When running on modern computers, the system will provide performance mobile games and programs at the level of "flagship" portable devices.

The undoubted advantage of Remix OS is that it works great as a second (or third) operating system on a computer. The 64-bit distribution even supports the UEFI environment (32-bit is Legacy only). To install the "OS" there is no need to use a USB flash drive, complete with the image you will receive a special application that will copy the installation data to your hard drive and allow you to start the installation immediately after restarting the computer. Remix OS also "becomes" pretty good on virtual machines.

The operating system itself and all future updates for it, according to the developers, will be completely free. So anyone can try this creation. Installing and uninstalling Remix OS takes minutes.

Key features and functions

  • convenient graphical shell that will allow you to work with the operating Android system using mouse and keyboard;
  • full-fledged Play market from which you can download and run applications;

True, not everything has been translated into Russian, but downloaded and installed apps work in Russian, which is a big plus. (Thanks to user Ruslan for the description this method in the comments to the article).

Looking forward to your comments on how it helped you this instruction on installing Remix OS, did everything work out quickly, and of course your impressions of this system :)

P.S. According to the information received from the user Ruslan, the Russian language can still be set in the settings after the system starts (see comments on the article).

Hi all. Recently learned about the operating system Remix OS built on Android.

Quite interesting system optimized for laptops and PCs. There is a windowed mode, that is, you can open programs in windows, and not like in Android, in which you need to switch between them.

course system Remix OS still raw, I hope that it will bring to mind. For example, due to some games, the system freezes completely, only a reboot helps. Maybe it's because of the incompatibility of applications, and maybe because of the windowed mode.

Remix OS installed on a flash drive USB support 3.0 and can be used from any PC, just boot from it, and not from the hard drive. All data (downloaded applications, etc.), the system also stores on a USB flash drive.

Personally, I also recorded the system on a 2.0 flash drive, the write and read speed of which is 25 - 20 mb / s - this is quite enough. Yes it won't load Remix OS from a flash drive with a write speed of less than 10 Mb / s. So, you can try to record on 2.0, she will tell you whether the flash is suitable or not.

Well, now let's get down to business and put Remix OS as a second system:
1. We need the EasyBCD program and EaseUS Partition Master, download them here TYK TYK
3. We download the system itself from the official websiteTYK
5. We extract the file from the archive, or rather the image of the system.

Using the EaseUS Partition Master program, we edit the partition from which we want to take at least 16GB.
- Select the partition from which we want to take 16GB and click "Change / move partition", reduce it so that the unallocated space remains 16 gigs

Now click on "unoccupied" and create a partition, in the "Name" we write REMIX OS, "

There are two ways to install Remix OS: using USB flash drives or directly from Windows using the setup file. The first option is suitable for those who only want to get acquainted with the system. The second will be convenient for those who have already decided or do not have a suitable flash drive.

If you choose the first option, then you will need any flash drive of 8 GB or more with USB interface 3.0. It will be used to record and load the image, so the speed and performance of the system will directly depend on its quality and capabilities.

Training

First of all, you need to download the system image from the official website at the link. Don't let the offer to buy something scare you, just enter the address Email(not necessarily your own), as soon as the download starts. In the downloaded archive you will find a program for burning the image and the actual image itself.

Recording and direct installation

  1. Recording an image is quite simple, for this you need to do the following:
  2. We connect the drive to the computer. Please note that all data will be deleted.
  3. Launch the Remix OS Installation Tool.
  4. Specify the path to the system image.
  5. Choose your flash card.
  6. Click OK and wait for the operation to complete. As a rule, it takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the configuration of your PC or laptop.

After the end of the recording, the USB flash drive must be inserted into the computer on which you want to install Remix OS, if it is turned off, restart it and enter the BIOS. For older devices (Legacy), it will be enough to enter the boot menu and select your flash card, for modern (UEFI) devices, disable the "Secure Boot" item in the BIOS settings.

To install Remix OS on HDD, as the second system, follow the instructions from point 2 to 5. In point 4, instead of "flash card", select "hard disk" and the appropriate partition. After the operation is completed, restart your computer if you want to switch to another system now.

Additional setting

After loading Remix OS from a flash drive, you will be offered two modes of operation:

  1. Guest Mode - guest mode in which information is not saved, and each subsequent launch will be like the first time.
  2. Resident Mode - all data is saved, so 8 GB of flash memory may not be enough.

Important! Regardless of which mode you choose, it is best to use a USB 3.0 compatible drive with 20 MB/s write speed, otherwise the system will take a long time to boot.

By default, Google services are excluded, to add them, download special application link . Run it and install, having previously allowed installation from unknown sources in the security settings. Also, after launch, only English and Chinese interface languages are initially available, but do not be alarmed, later in the settings you can change it to any other.

    4. As a result, Remix OS will be installed along with the Grub bootloader - you can also use it next to Windows.

How to uninstall Remix OS 3.0 from a computer

The operating system Remix OS 3.0 is very easy to remove from the computer if you installed it from under Windows. It is enough to run the same utility that performed the installation. It will detect the system on the disk and offer to delete it.

Before the instruction itself, it is worth telling what this is. Remix OS 2.0. This fork android x86 designed to bring an ecosystem of applications Android on computers with a convenient desktop interface. In the second version Remix OS startup developers Jide added a convenient window interface where you can use several Android- applications at the same time. At the same time, applications are scaled to fit the window, and the entire interface has normal controls for the mouse and keyboard - no bottom bar with three buttons.

How to install Remix OS 2.0 on a computer

To install the system you will need USB flash drive with standard support USB 3.0 speed write / read no less 10 Mbps, no less memory 8 GB, as well as the computer itself on which you are going to install the system. It should be noted that the requirements to USB- drive quite formal - many users have installed Remix OS 2.0 using an old standard flash drive USB 2.0 and with volume 4 GB memory.

    1. Download the image and install it on a flash drive

You can download the system image on the official website of the startup Jide via direct link (687 Mb, torrent). Available image with EFI support (torrent). Updated: On March 1, 2016, the first beta version was released Remix OS 2.0. Fresh links to download the system:
    • 64 bits (UEFI + Legacy BIOS)- direct link + torrent .
    • 32 bits (Legacy BIOS)— torrent.

Utility Remix OS USB Tool , which you can find in the image archive, is a special variation of Unetbootin. Run the utility, select Remix OS 2.0 ISO Image, as well as USB- the drive on which you will install it. Next, click the “ Ok”, after which the installation of the image on the flash drive will begin. Also you can use the original Unetbootin utility by selecting the distribution kit in it FreeBSD and image Remix OS 2.0. The result will be the same.

The first is the normal Live CD mode, where the user boots the system from a disc and tries it without saving all the data. The second mode allows you to use Remix OS 2.0 as a complete system USB-flash drive. When this mode is selected, the OS boots in a mode where all the progress and manipulations of the user are saved on the drive and can be accessed next time.

It is for the mode Resident Mode” and requires a flash drive of the standard USB 3.0 and fast write/read speed. The developers assume that it is in the mode of saving all data on USB and you need to use Remix OS 2.0.

After that it will start standard program installation of the distribution kit on the hard drive. In it you need to select the partition where it will be installed Remix OS 2.0, and also do a couple of other manipulations. It is through this that the standard android x86.

If your system does not boot after such an installation, then you can try to carry out the same process, but enter a different command to call the installation programs:/kernel initrd=/initrd.img root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet INSTALL=1
