The fashion for large smartphones has not touched Nokia products until recently (I already hear the voices of those who, grinning skeptically, will say that Nokia has long been ignorant of fashion from any point of view). Lumia 625 can be considered the first sign among those: a 4.7-inch screen makes this "budget" the largest Windows-smartphone of those that are already on the market. Moreover, this “state employee” supports LTE / 4G networks. Alas, for Ukraine this is not very relevant.

So, the first "phablet" or "plafond" of Nokia is in our hands... Wait a minute, what kind of ceiling is this? Look, below in the picture next to him - that's what I understand - a ceiling! And your Nokia 625 next to Acer Aspire Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - undergrowth, let there be more small fry like the iPhone, but certainly not a ceiling.

Maybe so! But to me, who is indifferently negative about the ceiling format, the 4.7 display seems optimal. Less - it's inconvenient to watch sites, more - it's inconvenient to carry and use with one hand (although here someone is lucky with their hands: for a large man, the "plafond" is just right. But where are they, these large men? I doubt that their number is large, especially in the Asian region, so that they are the engines of trade in "plafonds"). Therefore, we will dwell on the fact that the size of the Nokia Lumia 625 is exactly the right size. In the hand, it lies comfortably also because of the sufficient thinness (9 millimeters) and average weight.

As is often the case with modern Nokia smartphones, protective glass covers the entire front surface, including the screen, touch control buttons and the front camera.

Speaking a little above all this, it seems to envelop the panel and seems to be more durable than in most Android smartphones or iPhones (although I do not rule out that this is an illusion). The back panel is made of polycarbonate, with additional transparent layer. Thanks to this layer in our - white - version, it creates a visual marbling of this matte, but at the same time smooth, skin-friendly surface.

It may seem slippery to some, but as for me, she has enough grip with her hand. The cover is made as a removable "trough" with sides, which fits the smartphone, so if you get tired of the color, I think you can change it. I did not find a special hook for detaching the cover: the easiest way to remove it is to hook it with a fingernail in one of the lower corners of the device.

Under the cover we see two slots located one above the other - microSD and SIM-cards. Unusual and compact. Nearby is a camera eye with a flash, below is a speaker. And in the center is a large battery, which for some reason is made non-removable. To be honest, I did not expect such a catch: a removable cover and a non-removable battery. Well, just a violation of the logic of smartphone construction!

Two functional connectors are located on short edges: microUSB on the bottom, and minijack for headset - on the top. Quite logical.

All keys are on the right side. Above is the volume control, in the center is the power key, below is the camera call. In principle, if you place the smartphone in landscape orientation, then the camera call button is in the most suitable place - under the index finger of the right hand. But in portrait orientation this is not very convenient, although personally the power key bothers me the most, somewhere on top it would interfere less. The smartphone is assembled perfectly: despite the removable covers, we did not find any squeaks when pressed or inappropriate gaps.

Display

In general, I am very impressed with the performance of the displays in the Lumia series. Even in the cheapest smartphones, they look great, they are distinguished by a sensitive sensor (reacts to touch when wearing gloves), bright colors, and clear fonts. They are very pleasant to touch (I suspect the reason for this is the very thick glass of the device). Nokia Lumia 625 is no exception: the largest screen in the series is good, the quality is about the same as that of Lumia 720. Although the air gap between the screen and glass, as well as the lack of anti-reflective coating, still worsen the picture somewhat. It is noteworthy that on sunny days, which suddenly filled Kyiv with sunlight almost in November, the display is distinguishable well, despite the absence of the ClearBlack polarization layer. The maximum brightness level is medium. In reproach to the screen, you can put its small resolution by modern standards: 800x480 pixels. Restriction affects operating system.

System

O Windows phone 8, O inarticulate child of modernity! The operating system, in fact, is very convenient for mobile use, does not require exorbitant performance, with nice fonts and logic understandable to most beginners! Why do third-party developers deprive you so much by creating so few applications, and those that still appear in the Market, for the most part, for some reason, cost more than analogues for others mobile systems. It's a shame. The Lumia 625 has a version of the Amber OS installed, just like the Lumia 925. True, it is somewhat stripped down. For example, there are no watches and statuses in the standby mode that I loved at the time. They are very convenient as bedside clocks: at the same time they are visible in complete darkness, but do not irritate the eyes at all, without disturbing the darkness. Similarly, double tap to unlock is not supported. But rejecting a call by turning the smartphone down with the screen is in place. As always, users have access to a number of useful applications, seen in almost all Nokia smartphones of the latest generation. For example, convenient programs navigation and maps. These are Here Drive, Here Maps, Here Transit. I have said many times before that I consider them to be one of the best, if not the best, offerings on the market. I am pleased with the opportunity not only to lay a pedestrian or car path from point A to point B, but also marked sights and other interesting places. And also - the presence of updated databases public transport, in Here Transit. But Here Drive only works with an active SIM card. There are more applications Microsoft office, One Note, and, which have already become standard for Nokia, interesting programs to work with photographs. Performance

Like others Windows smartphones Phone 8, Lumia 625 is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 platform. Namely, on a dual-core MSM8930 with a frequency of 1.2 GHz for each core and an Adreno 305 graphics accelerator. The main hardware problem of the smartphone, like its other budget counterparts, is the small volume random access memory: here it is 512 megabytes. Therefore, the owners of the 625th model will be deprived of some games. For example, I didn't find my favorite Temple Run in the store. This, in fact, is not the most demanding game, apparently not designed for such a small amount of RAM. I downloaded a few races on my smartphone, a trial version of Angry Birds. Trial! Version! People, what are you talking about?? Isn't it time to make at least the first game free, like everywhere else? I'm sometimes willing to pay more for a PlayStation 3 game than download it from a pirate site for its PC version just for the sake of convenience, but the process of playing on a Windows smartphone is no different from that on Android. No, really, I'm not so sorry for the 34 rubles required for the toy, but the understanding that it is absolutely free everywhere except for Windows Phone gives rise to unpleasant sensations that they want to heat me up.

I also managed to play NFS: Hot Pursuit (of course, also a demo), free (really!) AE 3D Brutal Chase, which reminded me of the design, number of colors and sound of the game for Sega Megadrive 2, dearly loved by me in childhood (although there sometimes the picture was more interesting, at least from a distance). Well, and a few more toys, whose names have already been erased from memory. To be honest, the free sector Windows Store- just ugly. Even in the AppStore you can find a lot of great free apps, although Apple is usually scolded for total payment and high cost. In short, the apps are still bad. But everything that is (and available for download) - fly. And the tests are great. So, the result in AnTuTu is 9220 points. Quite good for a budget employee. The device also plays movies without problems.

Camera

Five megapixels, there is a flash. Nothing outstanding, but, as for me, the camera is good in its class. I liked the warm color rendition of the resulting images, although not as accurate as possible, but pleasant, natural. I liked the rather powerful flash, which allows you to shoot a fragment close to you in the dark. And, of course, the famous Nokia photo programs. These are, in particular, “Animated Photos”: several pictures are taken in a row, one of them is selected, on it you can select a part of the image for “revival”, and the program animates this part using other pictures. Strange sensations are caused by the result: something between a suspense film and Monty Python. And also - "Panorama" and "Photo Studio". The latter offers several interesting features. For example "Focus + Blur".

Sound

The sound speaker is located on the back surface. When it is not blocked, it sounds quite loud and unpleasantly sharp. But the call is not so easy to miss. If you listen to music through headphones, then we get a normal audio player, however, with a certain lack low frequencies, which is difficult to solve even with the manual equalizer found in "Settings".

However, the sound is normal, fairly clear. Looking ahead a little, I will note good indicators battery life, thanks to which the device can really work as the main player in combination. Unless, of course, you are an avid audiophile. By the way, there is also a radio. Works fine, but without RDS support.

Autonomy and heating

On heavy tasks, the Lumia 625 can heat up noticeably (in the speaker area), but not as much as, for example, the older Lumia 925. In a fairly serious load mode (camera shooting, periodic calls and SMS, surfing, music, film, tests, games ) smartphone confidently lasted two days without recharging. The 2000 mAh battery allows you to watch HD video for about 7 hours (plus) at maximum screen brightness. Excellent result!

In the dry matter

Lumia 625 is a smartphone with a large (or, by the standards of “plafonds”, medium) IPS screen, fast, pleasant in appearance and not too expensive (2,500 hryvnias, 10,000 rubles). Unfortunately, its main distinguishing feature, LTE support, is not in demand in Ukraine. But it can be useful to Russian citizens. A good model with good sound and long battery life. A good choice for those who are not embarrassed by the hardships of Windows Phone 8. And one more thing: if you are not striving for a big screen, maybe you should take a closer look at the x20 series models, comparable to the newcomer in price. For example, Nokia Lumia 720 with an excellent screen or (this model already has a whole gigabyte of RAM).

Lumia 625 supports multiple bands cellular communication last generation - LTE. The promised data transfer rate is up to 100 Mbps! It is worth noting, however, that the fourth generation network is far from being in all cities of Russia, and in neighboring countries things are even more vague.

In the good old communication standard GSM declared support for four bands at once (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), as for UMTS/WCDMA(here, promises also excite the imagination - up to 42.2 Mbit per second!). Which, again, is not feasible everywhere. Is here and WiFi 802.11b/g/n, and Bluetooth 4.0. Geolocation is supported thanks to the presence of a chip (A)GPS and our native Glonass.

By the way, even this smartphone You can call. The phone app is located at the top left side of the home screen by default, and there is nothing fancy about it. The quality of communication from both ends was almost flawless, talking through Lumia 625 is nice even without a headset. The manufacturer promises up to 23 hours of talk time.

There are two cameras, front and rear. The first has a maximum resolution of 640x480 pixels and provides acceptable picture quality for videoconferencing. Main camera(5 MP) is much more interesting, it allows you to take pictures with a resolution of up to 2592x1936 dots and record video Full HD(1920x1080 dots). There is an LED flash for shooting in suboptimal conditions, a la "even gouge out your eye."

By the way, about these very, far from optimal, conditions. They should be avoided as much as possible - the worse the lighting, the worse the pictures, here the Lumia 625 is much inferior to the Google Nexus 4 or the same Apple iPhone 5. If the light is favorable, and the subject does not move at the speed of a child who wants to play, picture quality is very good. Pay attention to the gallery of test shots, it is located just below these lines.

The display leaves an ambiguous impression. The IPS-matrix provides good viewing angles, brightness and contrast are adjustable in a very wide range, the sensitivity is excellent - the smartphone is able to respond to touch even through gloves. Multi-touch work is also worthy of praise - 10 simultaneous touches. However, after prolonged use, the language does not dare to call the screen of high quality: firstly, the display suffers from uneven backlighting, especially in its lower part, and secondly, 800x840 pixels at 4.7 inches look terrible. This is especially noticeable in the obviously high-quality online videos and graphics of mobile 3D games. For comparison: a density of 201 dpi is an indicator of such a fossil model as, for example, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. So why, in 2013, when Full HD in smartphones has already become commonplace, was Nokia stingy with a slightly less grainy display? First of all, for such a feature, you should say “thank you” to Microsoft. The maximum resolution supported by Windows Phone 8 is 1280x720 and, accordingly, it is left to the flagships. A similar situation will be in the SoC specification, but more on that later. It should be taken for granted that the budget Windows Phone will be inexorably "cut off", and not for economic, but purely for marketing reasons.

Hardware platform

Nokia Lumia 625 is based on the Snapdragon S4 Plus chipset with a modification of the MSM8930 processor. The processor was released in the third quarter of 2012 and differs from its predecessors in extended support for instructions and work in LTE networks. Windows Phone has always been a fairly resource-intensive operating system, and this power is enough for her eyes. In terms of processor and graphics, the Lumia 625 outperforms the 520, 620, 720, and 900 models in synthetic benchmarks, falling slightly short of HTC Windows Phone 8X. Applications open instantly, sites of any complexity do not slow down the device at all, switching from an online movie to a camera takes one second. The responsiveness of the system is on top, everything “flies”.

The sound from the speaker (both conversational and main) is loud and clear, and the potential of the device is enough even for good work with high-impedance headphones.

The claimed compatibility with LTE also works well. Megafon-Moscow in the central regions of Moscow gives out about 20-25 megabits in both directions. While the basis of smartphones used in the capital are devices with maximum HSDPA support, 4G is a good opportunity to get uncongested Internet for small needs (serious needs will already require significant expenses).

N-number of cores, several gigabytes of RAM, diagonals larger than 5 inches and other races for a long time Nokia didn't really care. But over time, the Finnish company realized that it was necessary to give users what they want, and so the Nokia Lumia line began to expand. More precisely, their diagonal screens. Today we are talking about Nokia Lumia 625.

Against the background of other budget Nokia Lumia devices, the 625 model does not stand out in any way except for the large diagonal of the screen. It is 4.7 inches. But not everything is so rosy. The box is pleasant to the touch and made of fully recyclable cardboard - Nokia cares not only about users, but also about the environment. In the box you will find big phone, charger, USB cable and headphones. Headphones are bad - as always in the budget Nokia, although the Nokia Lumia 620 comes with much better in-ear headphones.

The design of devices is created in the best traditions of Nokia. The Lumia 625 is very similar in appearance to the Nokia Lumia 620, only in a much larger size. In 620 models 3.7 inches, versus 4.7 inches. Back panel completely wraps around the body of the device. Removing it is even more difficult than on the Nokia Lumia 620 - you have to press the small camera lens and pull the cover towards you. This very cover can be white, black, yellow, orange or green. But they are no longer as attractive and bright as the covers of the 620 model, although here they are also double-colored. All options use a matte finish.

The dimensions of the device are very large, as for a Windows Phone-smartphone. Only the HTC Titan used to be so big. It is 133 mm long, 72 mm wide and only 9 mm thick. The weight of the device, oddly enough, is not large - 159 grams. The Nokia Lumia 625 is slightly larger than the Nokia Lumia 925, but the bezels around the screen are thicker, which I didn't really like.

If removed back cover, then you can find a 2000 mAh battery. But you won’t be able to pull it out on your own - the battery is not removable. 2000 mAh is one of the best performance on Windows Phone. In talk mode, the device can work as much as 32 hours, 7 hours in web browser mode, 6.5 hours in video playback mode. If you carefully use your Nokia Lumia 625, then the battery life will be two days, or even more.

Windows Phone is controlled by classic and already familiar elements - on the right side there is a volume rocker, a lock/power button and a camera shutter button. There are three touch buttons on the bottom of the front panel - back, home and search. When you press a key, they emit a slight vibration and glow white in the dark. At the top end there is a 3.5 mm audio output, at the bottom there is a microUSB output.

It's time to pay attention to the biggest thing in this device. The screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches received a rather strange resolution - only 800x480. The pixel density due to the large diagonal and low resolution is only 199 pixels per inch. The IPS screen matrix provides the screen with excellent viewing angles and a large margin of brightness. But, unfortunately, the screen loses almost all its brightness in the sun. The absence of the ClearBlack polarization layer is also sad. It is strange to see that the improved model Nokia Lumia 620 received a weaker screen. In a nutshell, the Nokia Lumia 625 has a typical, average screen.

Get the most out of your screen with software- parts of the operating system and windows updates Phone Amber, which is preinstalled right out of the box. To do this, go to settings - screen - color profile. There you can set the temperature and color saturation.

The processor in Nokia Lumia 625 is more powerful than in previous models. Whereas in budget models MSM8227 is installed, in today's hero MSM8930 with a frequency of 1.2 GHz and Adreno 305 graphics. As for the amount of memory, there is +1 disappointment here - the bar for 512 MB of RAM is installed in Nokia Lumia 625. It's sad, but on such a big screen you won't be able to play such games as Modern Combat 4 (the craftsmen still optimized the game for 512MB - ) or NOVA.

By the way, please note that Nokia Lumia 625 can work in 2G GSM networks, 3G and 4G LTE. This is the most affordable LTE smartphone in the world. this moment. For user data, 8GB is available here, but due to the features of the system, only 6-6.5 GB will be free. Memory can be expanded with microSD cards memory up to 64GB. Applications cannot be installed on the memory card, so it is better to leave the phone's memory for applications. Other connection options available to you are WiFi bgn, Bluetooth 3.0. NFC, unfortunately, no.

The Nokia Lumia 625 camera is just as average as the screen. There are only 5 megapixels and a mono-LED flash. In excellent lighting, the smartphone can take great pictures, but in low light, the camera starts to fail. But I was very pleased with the ability to shoot FullHD-video. This is thanks to the new processor. Right out of the box, you have access to the Nokia Smart Cam application, which can decorate your photos with additional effects - dynamic focus, motion capture and others. There is also a front VGA camera for Skype video calls.

The Amber update, unfortunately, on Nokia Lumia 625 does not provide a special Glance Screen - the clock will not be displayed when the screen is off due to the absence of the ClearBlack polarizing filter. It is very good that FM radio is activated in Nokia Lumia 625, which Nokia Lumia 620 cannot boast of.

Geolocation services are presented in the form of HERE Maps and HERE Drive. For offline navigation, please download maps to your device first. Nokia puts a lot of emphasis on its navigation. Thanks to this, offline navigation works very well and quickly.

Outcome. Nokia Lumia 625 is a device full of contradictions. On the one hand, the big screen with a diagonal of 4.7 inches is very pleasing, on the other hand, the lack of ClearBlack, the small amount of RAM and the weak camera are very disappointing. As for a device with a price at the start of $ 300, this is somehow a bit much.

Prior to the announcement of the 6" Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520, the Lumia 625, with its 4.7" display, held the title Nokia smartphone with the biggest touch screen. It's unclear what held the company back, as Android smartphones have been exploring this territory for a very long time, and users have made it clear that they like large panels (and 4.7” is already the “norm” in the green robot camp). Nokia Lumia 625 comes in a box that hasn't changed in years. Package contents: short microUSB cable, simple headset, documentation and charger (750 mA). The battery in the phone is non-removable, although the cover is removable, and has a capacity of 2000 mAh.

The model is offered in five colors, including white, red, black, green and yellow. The covers of all modifications are translucent and look unusual. The company itself calls the back part not a “lid”, but a “shell”, which is true, since this part envelops the case and contains the keys. In addition, these panels are sold separately for 980 rubles (Lumia 625 CC-3071), so if you wish, you can change the look of the device according to your mood and even prefer additional covers to protective cases and bumpers, which also cost money and also become unusable over time (scratches, abrasions and other traces of use). The back part is removed quite easily - you need to pick up the plastic at the microUSB socket with your finger and press down, then remove the main part. As you can see in the photo, it will be problematic to remove the battery without tools, and the compartments for micro-SIM and microSD are located on the side.

Let's look at the device from different angles. On the front, you can see a speaker slot, light and distance sensors, a 0.3-megapixel camera, three touch buttons are located under the display, and if you look closely, you can see a small microphone hole at the junction of the glass and the base. There is nothing on the left side, microUSB on the bottom, volume rocker, power button and camera button on the right, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. A 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and a loudspeaker (not very loud and also squeaky) are placed on the back side.

The 4.7-inch screen, according to the company, is almost the main advantage of the Lumia 625. In my opinion, the advantage of the screen itself is only its size compared to other Lumia. Resolution by modern standards (and for a price of 12 thousand rubles) is low (800 x 480 pixels), pixels are visible to the naked eye (density is 201 ppi), rounded glass Gorilla Glass 2 has established itself as reliable, but it lacks an oleophobic coating, so Fingerprints stick to it like Velcro and are hard to wipe off. Viewing angles are high, but there is a color inversion characteristic of cheap IPS matrices (everything is blue from one angle, yellow from another), the white color is good, but instead of black it turns dark gray. Also, I can not help but note the backlight from the backlight of the screen at the bottom of the dark background. Working with gloves is supported.

The device weighs a lot - 159 g, and its dimensions are 133.25 x 72.25 x 9.15 mm. In terms of dimensions, it is comparable to the Lumia 920, which has a 4.5-inch screen, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4, which has a 5-inch display. If it were not for the removable panel, then it would be quite a compact device, but with a cover, the frames and indents (from the end of the screen to the edge of the body) are very large. However, thanks to good ergonomics Lumia 625 fits nicely in the hand and does not feel heavy or gigantic. You can also praise the material from which the shell is made. It is problematic to scratch, it does not slip, there are practically no prints on it, and it just looks cool. But without criticism, a stone can be thrown anywhere into the garden of engineers and designers who did not foresee that the lid covering the main part will walk over time. I took it off only two times, and the backlash was about 0.3-0.7 mm (judging by the flash). At the same time, the design is such that you will feel the free movement of the cover almost every time you pick up the device and swipe across the display. The lid also began to creak somewhere in the middle.

Software

Lumia 625 came to the test with Lumia Amber firmware. I talked about the innovations that she brought to the old models in the review of Lumia 925. In Lumia 625, not all the chips were implemented: there is a Lumia color profile, FM radio, turn off the sound by flipping the screen down, but there is no screen with the Nokia Glance clock (“ Browser") and activate the screen with a double tap on the glass. In general, we have a typical Nokia phone on Windows Phone 8, there are no unique applications that are unique to the Lumia 625. Therefore, I suggest you read / watch detailed review WP8. Let me limit myself to screenshots to get a general idea of ​​​​the interface and basic programs.

Camera

The Lumia 625 uses a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash. The Nokia-branded Marketplace is full of photo and video apps, and mobile photography enthusiasts will love them, but the f/2.4 sensor will be the limiting factor for creativity. Pictures with sufficient light come out decent, and with poor light, noise appears and the picture lathers. The "close-up" mode does not help much when shooting macro - take a look at the photo of a 5-ruble coin (it's impossible to shoot closer). There is not enough detail, but it is impossible to jump above the head, that is, 5 megapixels. It seems that the company squeezed the maximum out of the photomodule used in Lumia 625.

Video is recorded in 1080p resolution at 30 fps. The bitrate is high, the color reproduction is pleasant. Unfortunately, the sound is mono.

User experience and impressions
