Philips Xenium W6610 - Specifications. Philips Xenium W6610 smartphone: reviews

Battery of course. Energy saving mode. All this allows you to use the phone for a long time without recharging. Stable operation, glitches very rarely, when there is a glitch it reboots itself. Reliable, dropped more than once and sometimes snowed in when it rained, but never failed. You have to understand that this phone was originally designed for work, not for toys or entertainment, and is very good as a workhorse. It is especially useful during a business trip, when there is not always the possibility of recharging nearby. The first two years charged on average once every three days.

Price. Capacious battery - best option Have not found. Enough for 2 days of intensive work, or 5 days of use.

Great autonomy! I charged it during use once a month. Now it is a spare, and I charge it once every three months.

    Battery, full of stuffing

    1. Battery 2. Screen 3. Iron (not cheap plastic) 4. all connectors are sealed from moisture 5. price (I bought it for 9990) 6. it has served faithfully for a very long time, about 5 years. (only the speakers failed, and then only partially)

The battery is amazing, the appearance and massiveness inspire confidence in the quality, there is a mode for using the touch screen through gloves

Everything is enough, and the battery is super.

Of course, the battery, which is best time lasted 3-4 days under load, and also had fairly good impact resistance, dropped on various surfaces more than 20 times and only got scratches and paint chips.

The operating experience is 2.5 years, during this time I fell many times, drowned in the bathtub twice, the battery works perfectly, the camera is not bad at all, the GPS works well, there seems to be no end to the life of this phone, definitely best model Philips has an excellent price-quality ratio.

    1. Of course, the battery!) Lasts for 4-5 days with very intensive use of the Internet, video, audio calls, heavy games like GTA SA! 2. The performance is simply shocking. Any games, any video quality: no lag. Except that due to poor optimization of the game it was stuttering once every 5 minutes. 3. Screen. Great! And here qHD - the difference is negligible, but the battery savings are obvious. 4. Shell. Few unnecessary things are pre-installed. This makes me happy. 5. Communication quality - 5. I can list the advantages for a very long time, but I think that’s enough.

Small volume random access memory. I wish there were more. Sound quality is average.

Buggy light sensor. Not enough bright screen. Not enough loud speaker, and if you increase its volume in engineering menu, wheezes. GPS, like all MTKs, works, but does not shine. The camera is worse than the 8510, although much worse.

A bit heavy. Not enough memory. Medium chamber. The screen is not super resolution. No 4G.

I don’t mention it, but if it’s important to someone, then maybe there’s a camera, but music lovers will also be upset - the sound is bullshit. Just listen to books. Lowered the quality rating a bit for this.

    1. RAM.

no count sensitivity of the front camera, inexpressive power button, lack original covers, only 1 sound profile can be configured

Perhaps the lid of the SIM card compartment came off a couple of times.

It gets hot, the quality of the camera is not very good, it is heavy, it needs to be cleaned often, because there is not much RAM

The junk speaker slowly died down during operation, wheezed and almost fell silent, very little RAM is the main problem of the pipe, if only I had at least 1 gig I would buy a new one again.

    1. When installed on a stand, when you want the smart phone to stand and you just poke at the screen without holding it with your hand, the touchscreen glitches. But this is a small matter.

Philips Xenium The W6610 cannot boast of compactness or light weight; it is a very large and heavy five-inch smartphone. Appearance The device is simple and unremarkable, the only thing that catches your eye is the narrow removable metal bracket on the back panel. Under it there are two slots: for mini-SIM and for a memory card. The rest of the body is plastic. We have no complaints about the build quality: the monolithic body does not bend, is not pressed, nothing is loose and everything fits tightly.

The dimensions of the Philips Xenium W6610 phone are 145.4 × 74.2 × 11.9 mm, and the weight is 200 grams; by the way, only six-inch phablets are heavier. It is inconvenient to use such a giant in one hand. But the location of the buttons is better than that of its direct competitor, the Lenovo P780: you don’t have to reach anywhere, and the volume rocker and power button are on the sides and not as high as on the Lenovo P780. The size and weight are compensated by an extremely capacious, non-removable 5300 mAh battery. It takes a lot of time battery life? You will have to put up with such dimensions.

Screen - 3.4

The display diagonal of the Philips Xenium W6610 is 5 inches, the screen resolution is modest - 960x540 pixels, the PPI value is 220, noticeably lower than that of the Lenovo P780, the matrix type is IPS. Display is covered protective glass, however, the screen is not protected from smudges and streaks. On such a display, pixelation is visible, and the maximum brightness is average (314 cd/m2) and is inferior to flagships and others. It will be difficult for you to read anything from the screen in the sun.

The device has an automatic brightness adjustment function, we tested it, it works adequately, but takes a long time. The screen has average viewing angles, natural colors, but at an angle they are noticeably distorted. To our surprise, the phone has a glove mode, but it’s hidden not in the display settings, but in special settings. possibilities.

Viewing angles and color deviations of the Philips Xenium W6610 display. As you can see in the test image above, viewing angles can hardly be called wide. The gradations of black merge into each other, and the crimson color at the corners begins to redden. Due to the fact that the brightness quickly decreases when deflected, the shades of blue colors merge and go into “darkness”. Read more about the test.

Camera

The Philips Xenium W6610 smartphone has 8 and 2 MP cameras. The main camera is equipped with an LED flash, autofocus, smile detection, HDR mode and a typical Android interface. The maximum photo resolution is 3264 by 2448 pixels. The quality of the photographs taken is not high; as a rule, they lack sharpness. We even had the feeling that the photos were taken not with an 8 MP camera, but with a 5 MP camera, if not less.

The maximum resolution for video recording is 1920x1080 pixels, with a recording speed of only 15 fps, sound is recorded in stereo mode, there is no tracking autofocus, only focus by pressing. The smartphone also has front-camera, which takes photos in a resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels and video 640x480, but not 15, but as much as 18 fps! In general, the Philips Xenium W6610 cameras, in our opinion, leave much to be desired.

Working with text - 1.0

The manufacturer did not install its own keyboard on the smartphone; it uses the built-in keyboard from Google. Among the advantages, we note the large diagonal, convenient location of the keys, the ability to quickly dial numbers by holding down the keys from the top row. Among the shortcomings, we note the meager dictionary in the keyboard, which does not know many Russian words, so in case of an error when entering, the keyboard is unlikely to automatically correct the typo.

Internet - 5.0

In this case, you are provided with a wide selection of pre-installed browsers: this is both the standard “Browser” and Google Chrome, and Opera. Opera has a reading mode and text auto-adjustment, and Chrome has tab synchronization with the desktop version. In the Browser and Chrome there is scaling of page text to a single, pre-selected size.

Interfaces

The Philips Xenium W6610 contains the following interfaces: Wi-Fi (b/g/n) (there is no support for dual-band Wi-Fi) with the ability to distribute the Internet, Bluetooth v 3.0 and A-GPS. It seems that everything you need is there, but in reality the interfaces work poorly; at a distance of 10-12 meters from the router, the smartphone has already begun to gradually lose the Wi-Fi signal. GPS, in our opinion, is here for show - the first launch took a very long time, it took 6 minutes for the Philips Xenium W6610 to determine its coordinates. Even the micro-USB connector doesn't support USB OTG, so don't expect to connect to it external devices. In general, this parameter is a complete disappointment, even during phone call The smartphone makes a noticeable noise.

Multimedia - 4.2

We tried to play various video files on the Philips Xenium W6610: the smartphone supports playback of most formats and codecs, including MKV format. Video resolution can be up to 1080p inclusive. The audio player in the smartphone plays MP3, AAC, WAV, FLAC formats. In our opinion, the Philips W6610 could be used as a portable video and audio player, if not for its large size.

Battery - 5.0

Battery life is something for which you can forgive the dimensions, poorly functioning interfaces, and a poor display. The smartphone has a non-removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of as much as 5300 mAh. If we compare with competitors, we note that the Lenovo P780 has a battery capacity of 4000 mAh, and Highscreen Boost 2 SE - 6000 mAh. In our tests, the smartphone demonstrates excellent battery life: when watching HD video at maximum brightness, the device is discharged in more than 12 hours, and when listening to music - in 134 hours! These are excellent results, one of the best in our tests.

Performance - 2.1

The Philips Xenium W6610 uses the MediaTek 6582 platform with a quad-core processor operating at 1.3 GHz, a Mali400-MP2 graphics subsystem, and 1 GB of RAM. On this moment MediaTek MT6582 chipsets are a good budget solution for smartphones with a resolution like the Philips Xenium W6610. The device copes well with everyday tasks. We also ran several benchmarks, in the Ice Storm Unlimited test it received 2900 points, in AnTuTu - 16905, to which the benchmark said that the Philips Xenium W6610 is " a good choice" The benchmark results were slightly higher than those of the Lenovo P780.

Memory - 5.0

The amount of built-in memory in the Philips Xenium W6610 is 4 GB, 1.7 GB is available to the user, this is very little! There is a memory card slot, cards up to 32 GB are supported. Hot swapping is possible: you can insert a memory card without turning off the device, but the smartphone needs some time to figure out and start reading the card.

Peculiarities

What's special here? Of course, a very capacious battery, support for two SIM cards, and a mode for working with the display while wearing gloves. The device has a non-separable body; only a small piece of the cover is removed. The Philips Xenium W6610 comes pre-installed with 3 browsers, a file manager, a flashlight, and a power saving mode, which can be turned on with a separate button on the phone body.

Lyrical introduction

Deep breath, deep breath. The columnist (that is, me) has the right to emotions. But still up to certain limits. This is actually why this review took so long to write. The observer exhaled carefully.

Do not misunderstand me. A modern smartphone is an incredibly multifunctional contraption. Calls, reading, music, photos, navigation, Internet, games, etc. And there are no smartphones that cope with all functions equally. Equally good or equally bad. Doesn't matter.

Some people care about games, but they don't care about the quality of music. Some people want to take photographs, but will never read from a screen of this size. When you choose a device for yourself, it is important for you that it copes well with your personal tasks. What happens to the rest - you, by and large, should not give a damn.

How did I get this smartphone? I was about to go on a long-planned two-week trip to Spain and Portugal. Gaudi, port wine, Cape Roca, jamon, good company. Long journeys in a rented Corsa, endless travel around cities on a toptobus. We swam, we know. For such a trip, a smartphone with a very thick battery is highly desirable. Because GPS. Because you need a lot of GPS.

The average smartphone is not enough for me during a day of hiking. Well, it’s not enough. You can get by. But you will have to seriously save money - reduce the brightness, keep the screen on as little as possible, don’t even think about reading Twitter during lunch, etc. As an option, of course, an external battery can easily help out. But a smartphone with a big, big battery is just more convenient for me personally.

Which smartphones with large batteries have I not yet tested? Oops. Philips Xenium W6610. Huge battery, five-inch IPS screen. Moreover, the hardware is quite fast. Judging by the performance characteristics - perfect smartphone for my type of traveler. I urgently ask for it to be tested - they send it just in time for departure. I happily stuff my SIM card into it...

On the second day of the trip, I came to the conclusion that the smartphone is good in all respects, but it is absolutely impossible to use it as a navigator. It's stupidly bad at picking up satellites...

Brief conclusion

Amazing battery, fast hardware, great screen. What is missing for happiness? Normal GPS operation and a good camera. Alas, despite all its advantages, a smartphone is clearly unsuitable for my type of traveler. GPS, for fuck's sake, GPS. Details are in the corresponding section of the review.

Unpacking, first use (video)

First acquaintance with a smartphone with a huge battery. Unpacking, first use, talk about the characteristics.

Demonstration of work (video)

Farewell thoughts about a smartphone with a huge battery. As usual, we look at browsers, Twitter, toys, camera and everything like that.

Price

From eight and a half to ten thousand rubles, depending on the greed of the store (end of May 2014).

Competitors

There are few devices with large, large batteries on the market. No demand? Here, consider, and everything that was found:

Flash memory - 4 GB, of which slightly less than 1 GB is allocated for internal memory. Another 1.7 GB are allocated for the internal SD card. However, when installing a Micro-SD card into the device, installed card replaces the internal one and the programs are installed on it.

Sensors There is an accelerometer and a compass, a proximity sensor and a light sensor. No gyroscope. Funny glitch. Test utilities are convinced that the device has a thermometer. It’s like you can’t get the temperature from it, but it’s there (in fact, of course, there are no thermometers here). This is the first time I've seen this.

Communication with the outside world

Mobile 3G Internet works without problems. As usual, it is only available with one of the SIM cards. Which one you can choose through the settings; there is no need to swap SIM cards.

4G (LTE), alas, is missing.

Connecting to a computer via USB is also possible in MTP mode, and in Mass Storage mode (as usual, like two external drives).

Wi-Fi - here we have it ordinary (b/g/n) and single-band (2.4 GHz). Sensitivity is slightly below average. There are no problems with the speed of downloading or uploading.

Miracast ("Wireless Display") is working. True, for some reason only after I rebooted the device. But there is no wired signal output option to TVs (MHL, HDMI).

There is no ability to connect external USB devices (USB-OTG). There is no NFC either.

Screen

Five-inch IPS screen with a rather modest resolution of 540x960 pixels. Many, I suspect, in our era of total FullHD, such a resolution may scare off. In my opinion, it is quite tolerable and does not create any particular inconvenience.

The brightness of the screen is not bad, 370 cd/m2 with a contrast ratio of 530:1. The minimum brightness, of course, is too high - 41 cd/m2 for white screen. White point - 7300K. Not ideal, but not bad. Color gamut - 93% sRGB.

Overall the screen is completely reasonable. Good viewing angles, good behavior in the sun, obviously there is an oleophobic coating (albeit not ideal) and something like One Glass Solution. Certainly this is not best screen from those that I have seen, but it is more than good.

The sensor is also problem-free. Accuracy is good. Five simultaneous touches.

A nice bonus - it supports working with gloves. Enabled in "Settings" in the "Special Features" section (disabled by default).

Screen glass - Asahi Glass Dragontrail II. Not a Gorilla, but also something protective. I didn’t examine it with a hammer and chisel, and I didn’t drop my smartphone on stones. But he wasn’t particularly altruistic either. However, there are no visible signs of use on the screen.

operating system and other software

Good "old" operating room Android system 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. There's not much to talk about.

Installation problems large programs no, because it is possible to put them on the map MicroSD memory. However, there is one problem. There are two separate areas of flash memory - "internal memory" and "memory card". Moreover, “internal memory” is always a certain piece of the memory that is already in the device. And in our case it is only 1 GB. The problem is that even if you put the program on the "memory card", it will still bite off some piece of the " internal memory". And sometimes it will be installed there entirely (like, for example, all Google utilities or Yandex.Browser). As a result, from the unfortunate gigabyte of internal memory very quickly there is practically nothing left. Poor me, by the end of Philips testing, to install something new , I already had to demolish something old, and I couldn’t clear enough space for Angry Birds Go.

Battery

The battery capacity is insane by today's standards - 5300 mAh. This is not just a lot, it is a lot. The test results speak for themselves. On average, 321% of the results of the Galaxy S4, which traditionally plays the role of a standard for me.

No, this, of course, is not enough for a week of normal use. But for two or three days - easily. There is no talk at all about draining the battery in a day. Well, that is. if only purely theoretically, if you really, really try...

It's funny. The official website has "official" information on battery life. They promise “up to 33 hours of talk time”, “working time on the Internet up to 16 hours”. I’m not familiar with their methodology, but, as you can see, the results coincide with mine very, very well. I'll go grab a pie from the shelf.

Full charging time with the original charger (5V, 1.5A) is a little more than four hours.

The video is also not great. Yes, the camera can record both HD and FullHD, but only 15 frames per second. And the quality, to be honest, is not encouraging.

The front camera is the usual 2 MP (1600x1200). Also nothing outstanding, but good for conversations on Skype.

Philips Xenium W6610 as a GPS navigator

Well, you've reached the saddest part of my story.

Even before setting off on my trip, I managed to run my usual two laps with the W6610. As usual, the first one is with a SIM card installed. The second - without her. Tracks in front of you:

The second track is not too smooth, but reasonable. There are no questions for him. And on the first one you can see two straight segments. The smartphone was losing satellites. Twice in thirteen minutes. However, not for long.

Not long ago I started walking with smartphones and tablets along the same route and recording the resulting tracks. But there will certainly be a dozen devices tested in this way. So here it is. This is the first time that a device managed to lose satellites on this route.

I even suggested that maybe the SIM card was to blame. Without her there were no problems. But further observations showed that the SIM card had nothing to do with it.

And then the journey began. When you need GPS all the time. When it doesn't turn off at all. And based on the results of this journey, I can say the following. The device behaves very strangely. He can several hours in a row work without problems at all (but this is rather the exception than the rule). Or maybe, out of the blue, with a clear sky and an open horizon, you lose satellites and search for them for ten to fifteen minutes. Whether it has a SIM card or not is completely unimportant.

Fortunately for me and unfortunately for Philips, I had something to compare with. Our company had a lot of different GPS devices with us. And no one behaved worse.

On the third day of the journey, I already began to guess that a miracle would not happen. Nevertheless, I continued to take out the W6610 from time to time and turn on GPS on it. And sometimes I just turned on the GPS in the morning and put the device in the top pocket of my backpack for the whole day. What if he changes his mind, what if he comes to his senses? Alas. I didn’t come to my senses. I was never able to fully use the W6610 as a navigator.

I completely forgot to say. There is no GLONASS support.

Philips Xenium W6610 as a video player

Nothing unusual. The pre-installed player is, as usual, capricious. We put

Last year I received a Lenovo P780, and it died out only after 3 days of use. A week ago I picked up the Philips Xenium W6610, and it is still charged. Do you know why he is 66? Because it can last exactly 66 days on one charge.

Philips chose a very precise path for themselves - a huge battery. I was lucky enough to be familiar with almost the entire Xenium line, and all of them put other inexpensive Android dialers on the shoulder precisely because of their battery features. Philips has phone power bank X130, which can charge all portable equipment. There is a compact in metal with the capacity of X333 batteries. There is a W8510 smartphone with a capacity, God forbid everyone. But now we have a smartphone with a battery! And its name is Philips Xenium W6610.

Design and ergonomics

If suddenly someone comes up and asks you: “What kind of freak is this?”, you can explain to the person for a long time that this phone was created in order to protect it from wild animals, this thick case has the largest possible battery installed, and its weight, and dimensions are functionally justified. Or you can never talk to this misunderstanding person again. Yes, the smart looks like a cobblestone. But I think this is mimicry. To survive in difficult conditions when you end up on a deserted island. The Philips and Xenium inscriptions are easily erased, the body itself is bluish, so yes, you can hide it in stones. But not in the water! The phone was deprived of protection from water and dust.

The front of the W6610 is completely covered with glass. The back of the smart is plastic, bluish in color, with a black metal insert. Which, by the way, I never managed to open the first fifty times. The entire editorial team came to the conclusion that it is terribly inconvenient. The world has never seen such inconvenient lids! Under the bar are hidden slots for two full-size SIM cards and a microSD card.

The whole thing is quite wide (145.4 x 74.1 x 11.4 mm) and heavy (200 g), and from the first moment it lands in your hand, it seems that your cooperation will not last long. Or it will end with pumped up muscles on one right one. But no. You quickly get used to all this if you don’t bother, and no, I didn’t develop beautiful biceps in a week.

The layout of the keys on the smart phone is standard, except that the microUSB connector, which is located at the bottom, is hidden under a plug. And if at first you thought that this was because of the security of the smartphone, I welcome you to my club. But I checked for sure - the smart phone does not have protection against water and dust.

It’s better to clarify that the power button is located on the right side in the center, the volume buttons (not the rocker) are on the left, and the 3.5 mm audio jack is on top. There is also a small switch on the right side, but what it is and why I will tell you in the block about the battery. This completes the counting of the connector buttons.

Display

The smartphone display has not received any special privileges, because it doesn’t need it. Because a resolution of 540x960 with a density of 220 ppi is quite enough to run maps, look at the schedule of airplane ships, book a room in a hostel hotel, or google “how to start a fire” and “how to put up a tent.” Inversions and viewing angles in this smartphone should interest you the least. And on a sunny day it can generally be used as a mirror. Do you know how this can be useful on the island?

Hardware and software

The brain of the Xenium W6610 was 4 cores of the MTK 6582 processor with clock frequency 1.3 GHz and 1 GB RAM. On average, this is enough to play 2048 and run Asphalt. The game will not shine with FPS, but the fact itself is that it starts, and even the note is bad. For comparison, here are some benchmarks. In terms of parrots, the device is comparable to the Nexus 4. And it was very good.

  • Dimensions: 145 x 74 x 11 mm
  • Weight: 200 g
  • Operating system: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Communication standards: GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz), UMTS (2100 MHz)
  • Processor: Quad-core, MTK MT6582 1.3 GHz
  • Display: 5″ IPS (540 x 960 pixels) / 220ppi / touch, capacitive
  • Memory: 4 GB flash expandable (Micro SD up to 32 GB)
  • RAM: 1 GB
  • Camera: main - 8 MP, video recording in 1080 p, front - 1.2 MP
  • Interface connectors: 3.5 mm headphone jack, MicroUSB
  • Battery: Li-lon battery 5300 mAh

It’s not even worth talking about the OS version and the shell - Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with a minimum number of add-ons that are not so necessary either in everyday life or in extreme situations. Well, okay, Kingsoft Office is there. It seems to be useful if someone else uses it. I’ll show you a couple of screenshots, and then I’ll show you two cool things that are worth paying attention to.

The first feature is the battery and its software

5300 mAh is a well-deserved second place among long-lived smartphones. The first one received Highscreen Boost 2 aka brick with its 6000 mAh. True, the inside of the device is so empty that it neutralizes its dignity. The W6610 has a really long lifespan. During the week of testing, I managed to discharge it from 100% to 10%, despite the fact that I did not deny myself toys, 3G and Wi-Fi, and generally used it as my main smartphone. But when, after 10%, I switched it to energy-saving mode and only answered calls, the idea was born that I would have to grow old with this phone. He lived like this for several days, didn’t want to switch off, called and texted and lived in peace for two or three days. The mode had to be turned off.

But don't worry, charging it will last a month. My copy was fully charged from a socket with the original adapter wire in just over 3 hours. But here's the truth - it was charged from the computer for more than 8 hours, and then not to the final charge. But there is good news - if this smart phone is completely discharged, and you have to run soon, and you still don’t have external battery, even charging for an hour will save you. This is enough for both active use and conversations for several hours.

And this is far from a record. Because Xenium has a crazy energy saving program. It provides complete information about battery consumption - what? where? when? and offers a choice between two energy-saving profiles. If there is no Internet on your deserted island, then feel free to set the default mode. It cuts off all data transmission, sets the screen brightness to minimum and leaves you to your own devices while waiting for a call or SMS from the rescuers. It is in this mode that the device can last for more than two months and never make a single sound about a low battery. I haven’t tried it, but I have no reason not to trust the manufacturers on this issue. If you just went on vacation to another city, forgot to charge, and you still have a week to rest, then go to the user mode and configure it as you see fit: display brightness, what to turn off - Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi. It turns on in one motion. And if you first thought that this lever, like that of Apple devices, stands for the transition of the phone to silent mode, congratulations, now there are two of us. One click - and you already know for sure that for the next hundred years your phone will not be discharged one iota. I would like such a button in Oppo Find 5...

Regarding the tests, here is a beautiful screenshot from Antutu Benchmark I can’t do it, because the device overheats and the test cannot be completed. Please take my word for it.

The second feature is communication standards

Even if you are really carried into an unknown distance, there is nothing to worry about regarding the Internet. If it is there, you will not be left with anything thanks to the dual coverage area, that is, dual-mode availability of WCDMA and GSM. Two SIM cards – two modes. The most honest phone in the world!
