  1. It is not recommended to connect any LED models to a power source without a resistor. When using one resistor, only serial connection one type of LED.
  2. In the case of using three-crystal diodes, each channel is connected through a separate resistor and connected to the same diode in the next module.

Explanation of the name

The names of the SMD 5630 and 5730 strips indicate the dimensions of the LED housings, and not their technical data, as some people think.

SMD stands for “surface mounted device”. Which, translated into Russian, means a thing, a device, an element mounted on a surface, that is, a tape backing.

The four numbers after the abbreviation are the dimensions (length and width) of the LED housing mounted on the substrate.

Moreover, the manufacturer can mount any LED crystal into this housing, from the most powerful to the weakest. Hence the different characteristics of models that seem to be identical in name.

What is the difference and how to distinguish an SMD 5630 LED strip from an SMD 5730?
SMD 5730 is a newer LED model. And the main external difference is the physical dimensions.

  • length 5.7mm (5730) and respectively 5.6mm (5630)
  • width 3.0mm

And don’t be confused, 5.7mm is the length including the leads (legs). The actual size of the case itself, where the crystal is soldered, is only 4.8 mm!

The model 5630 has even a little more - 5.3mm. Both have the same width - 3.0mm.

However, with the reduction of the housing in the 5730 product, the power, luminous flux, and heating temperature remained at the same level. For factory-quality branded products, the power is 0.5 W and the temperature is 80 degrees.

Belt power

As mentioned above, in original branded products the power of one LED should be approximately 0.5W.

Of course, they are much cheaper than the original (1.5-2 times), but the power of the diode in such a tape is at most 0.15 W. Moreover, such indicators are even more or less acceptable.

But it’s better to avoid models with P=0.09W. The maximum they can produce is 360Lm per meter segment.

In this light, best choice will buy an SMD 5050 LED strip, not this fake. Although the difference in the originals is of course immediately noticeable even to the eye.

In addition to power, cheap diodes in 5630 and 5730 strips also have a much lower luminous flux. In Chinese models it reaches 7-12 lumens, but in branded ones it reaches 40 lumens.

The data on the label applies to white neutral light. In general, SMD 5630, 5730 can be in three different “colors”:

  • WW - warm white from 2700 to 3000K

Such powerful tapes can only be mounted using an aluminum profile. This scares many people off, since the cost of the profile itself is often comparable or even higher than the price of the LED strip.

Some take risks and stick it directly onto furniture or use cheap plastic ones for this. cable channels. You shouldn't do this.

At first, everything will burn and shine properly, without any complaints. However, LEDs will heat up over 80 degrees, gradually degrade, and as a result, lose their original brightness.

Most manufacturers, when indicating warranty periods for LED strips (of any brand), mean that during this period the backlight will shine properly with 100% brightness.

When this period expires, the tape will not go out, but will simply lose at least a third of the lumens of its original characteristics. If overheated, this period is reduced by 2-3 times.

This primarily applies to sealed tapes with protection IP65.68. Not only are they coated with silicone, but the lack of heat dissipation in the form of an aluminum profile will significantly worsen the overall picture.

Is it possible to somehow get out of the situation if the issue is not the cost of the aluminum profile, but the impossibility of its installation and placement? For example, it does not fit the design in any way or spoils the entire appearance of the lighting.

The only option in this case is to reduce the power and sacrifice illumination.

Your task is to ensure that the total power of the LED strip is not more than 10W per 1 meter.

This can be done in two ways:
