Huawei y5 technical specifications. Smartphone Huawei Y5 II Black (CUN-U29) - Reviews

Huawei smartphone Y5 Prime 2018, which is reviewed in this article, belongs to the category of gadgets that are affordable for a wide range of consumers. It is for this reason that manufacturers do not offer the buyer a metal or glass case. For practicality of use, the manufacturer chose the plastic option that is the most acceptable and has proven its right to widespread use.

The company from China is one of the manufacturers that have a lot of smartphone lines. Even a professional can get confused in them. If we compare models of the same series, we can note their similarity in terms of the design of the main camera and body. These elements have the same shape. The difference between smartphones model range observed in size, which affects the screen diagonal. The manufacturer has begun to supplement the line of inexpensive smartphones with devices that will have the advantages of decent functionality, despite their low price.

The main distinguishing feature of the Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 is the presence of a fairly high-quality elongated display. The sides of the case have a percentage ratio of 18 to 9. These parameters ensure the convenience of daily use of the mobile device.

Design and ergonomics

Huawei review Y5 Prime 2018 shows that this model is quite ergonomic. This property is achieved thanks to well-designed rounded corners. With the convenient shape of the case, it can be used even with one hand, and it will be quite comfortable even for fragile girls. The correct arrangement of elements, taking into account human comfort, also helps with this. The plastic case can be mistaken for metal material from the outside. The appearance of a discreet logo ensures the beauty of the design.

When purchasing a smartphone, it is packaged in a white box with the model logo and the name of the manufacturer on it. Additionally, the phone case is protected by a factory film from the manufacturer, ensuring safe transportation.

Versions of the gadget are available for purchase in the following colors:

  • black;
  • blue;
  • gold.

It is believed that the choice of the listed shades is quite successful, since such options are in the highest demand in comparison with other colors that are most often chosen by users.

The blue color of the body, for example, is fresh appearance and originality of design. Thanks to the richness and depth of tone, a smartphone in this color is very popular among connoisseurs of Huawei technology. The plastic material is pleasant to the touch and has good density to ensure durability of the gadget.

The choice of black plastic will be successful for those who are supporters of strict design. However, you must be prepared for the case to become covered in dust. To protect against dirt, it is better to immediately choose a cover.

The ends of the case are equipped with control keys, a charging port and a speaker. This model is not equipped with touch keys. Buttons are used to control the smartphone. They can be found at the bottom of the screen. The USB connector format differs in standard sizes.

Display

The screen of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018, this budget gadget, does not contain an oleophobic coating. This model also lacks a fingerprint scanner. The screen diagonal is 5.45 inches. The IPS matrix will be an excellent choice for a budget gadget. To display the image, HD resolution is used, the parameters of which are 14040 by 720 pixels. This is the optimal resolution when the visibility of individual pixels is limited and when you are not looking at particularly fine details. There is no blue cast when viewed from an angle, which is also positive thing when characterizing the screen.

Reviews of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 indicate the brightness of the screen, which shows good quality even in daylight. But if the sun shines directly on the display, the visibility will be unclear.

The smartphone has a good viewing angle and has automatic screen adjustment that can adapt to the external environment. A choice of parameters is available, such as:

  • color spectrum;
  • brightness and contrast settings;
  • saturation level;
  • night mode selection.

Using automatic brightness adjustment, you can select the optimal brightness level in accordance with the surrounding lighting. Adjusting the color temperature is one of the items in the “Display Settings” menu. Here shades of cold and warm tones are selected, the protective function is activated to take care of vision. The phone's screen is quite worthy to purchase this model.

Equipment

The Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 packaging contains a charging cord that is of sturdy quality. There are headphones included with the gadget. This headset will not surprise you high quality sound, but will be quite acceptable for a budget version. Using the simplest headphones, in which the sound is not above average, is suitable for talking or making video calls.

The last item in the kit is the connector used to charge the phone. But there is no Euro adapter provided here. The device is designed for Chinese sockets, which differ in shape from the European model.

Specifications Huawei Y5 Prime 2018

As indicated Huawei specifications Y5 Prime 2018 volume random access memory The device is 2 GB with 16 GB of internal memory. Power battery equal to 3020 mAh.

Benefit from MediaTek's quad-core processor GPU PowerVR GE8100. basis operating system is Android versions 8.1. With memory resolution from microSD cards its volume reaches 256 GB. The device weighs 142 g. The memory can be expanded up to 128 GB, but it is hardly worth loading the phone with such volumes, given its capabilities.

Performance

Using a MediaTek processor is not the best option for smartphones. But for a budget version of a mobile device, this option will be optimal.

RAM capabilities are limited to two to three applications that will run simultaneously. This is the norm for a space of only 2 GB. It is important that the device is not overloaded with software in large quantities. Then the gadget will not freeze and will work normally. Games may have problems such as freezing and blurry graphics. To increase functionality, it is recommended to purchase an additional card Micro memory SD.

For the average user, such features will be enough; the smartphone copes with basic productivity tasks. The launch speed of the camera, the sensor's response to commands, and the smoothness of switching between commands are significantly different from the operation of the flagship. If you update your smartphone's firmware, it may show better performance results.

Cameras

The camera of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 corresponds to the characteristics of a budget gadget. The main camera of the phone is an 8 megapixel module with an f/2.2 aperture. These parameters allow you to cope with the peculiarities of shooting during daylight hours. Sometimes there are problems with autofocus, resulting in blurry photos. If the lighting is weak, then shooting will not be possible.

Under normal conditions, detail appears in the images. If you hold your smartphone tightly in your hand, you can take good photos. Then, when shooting, objects can be brought closer and even examined. The quality of color rendering can be improved, but this may lead to doubling of objects and a “ghost effect”. There are no halos from lamps when shooting indoors.

Photo

8 MP main camera provides good opportunities to get high-quality images. If you take pictures in nature, where the wind blows, then the quality of the pictures is blurry.

Video

Video shooting when using the main camera is in Full HD, but the final quality level shows average capabilities. If the user wants to get constant shooting, this will not work. The video camera is designed only for infrequent recording of some fragments of particularly important significance.

The camera does not have an additional shooting mode or stabilization. The application does not provide a large number of modes, you can find several filters to obtain good photos with Huawei Y5 Prime 2018. When shooting video, stereo sound recording is provided at a fairly good level.

Front-camera

The capabilities of the front camera of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 are especially pleasing when receiving video calls. The quality of photographs is best during daylight hours. Then the recognition of all colors by the lens is at a decent level. If the lighting is not bright enough, then the images will be produced with noise interference.

According to the manufacturer, the camera is equipped with support for HDR mode. But the operation of this function does not delight users. There is a portrait shooting mode function, when the background looks like fog. You can get a selfie with perfect facial skin. This feature is available to all Huawei models. At steep shooting angles, the image is distorted and stretched. The result is comical.

Sound and music playback quality

The sound reproduction quality of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 should be much higher. Because the sound of music is dull. But a music lover can purchase more quality headphones than those that come with the device. Then the sound of your favorite tracks will become better.

The gadget has a function for using karaoke, which expands the possibilities of using the smartphone.

Communication capabilities

If the user is simply talking on the phone, the level of audibility is quite normal, clarity and absence of wheezing are noted. This device does not have an equalizer. You won’t be able to reconfigure the sound to your taste.

The operation of all modules does not cause problems and is characterized by good speed. The only negative is the slow operation of the navigator. He begins to react 5-10 minutes late.

operating system

Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 is equipped with a processor with 4 cores. This is Mediatek MT6739, clocked at 1500 MHz. The budget chip is equipped with a Cortex-A53 core, with a Power VR GE 8100 graphics accelerator.

The gadget is characterized by support for memory cards with a capacity of 256 GB. Thanks to the powerful rechargeable battery, which is equipped with energy conservation technology, the device can operate uninterruptedly for a period of 62 hours if the user listens to music. 13 hours of video can also be obtained from this battery.

Thanks to the operating room Android system version 8.1 and the EMUI 8.0 shell, during tests using this model of mobile device it scored almost 35 thousand points, proving its compliance with the budget level. Despite the low level of performance of the smartphone, it performs well when solving simple functional tasks.

If you need to open applications and the browser, this does not cause any significant problems.

Autonomy

Comparing Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 with earlier models from this manufacturer allows us to conclude that this smartphone has good battery life. This is evidenced by the battery capacity of 3020 mAh. Despite the modest power indicators, we can say that they are quite sufficient for the diagonal sizes that this gadget displays. A day's work guarantee is a reality for the 2018 Huawei Y5 Prime.

If the owner of a smartphone actively uses the 4G Internet and turns on Wi-Fi, then there is a reduction in operating time. Then the time will be limited to 5 hours. If you just constantly use Wi-Fi, without a super-powerful Internet connection, you can count on six hours of smartphone operation.

An active user can work with a smartphone throughout the full daylight hours. Using the gentle mode, adjusting the operation of applications that run in the background, the battery will be discharged in one and a half to two days. A full charge is available in three hours.

Pros and cons of a smartphone

The Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 phone is a model that has received improved capabilities thanks to a progressive screen and fresh software.

The positive characteristics of the gadget are:

  1. ergonomics of the device;
  2. favorable price;
  3. the presence of the Face Unlock function, which allows you to remove the screen lock by detecting the owner’s face;
  4. practicality of the device;
  5. good camera color;
  6. stylish and presentable design in three popular colors;
  7. the presence of an elongated screen;
  8. an improved version of the speaker;
  9. installation of the latest software version;
  10. Availability of budget headphones.

Among the disadvantages of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018, the following shortcomings can be identified:

  1. lack of fingerprint scanner capabilities;
  2. low level of productivity;
  3. It’s quite difficult to play on such a smartphone - games freeze;
  4. shooting requires good lighting, even wind can affect the clarity of the image;
  5. The phone sound is quiet;
  6. lack of NFC, as well as USB Type-C.

When listing the disadvantages, it is important to remember that the model is affordable. Therefore, it does not claim high performance indicators. This is a working device to perform simple basic functions that are provided in every smartphone.

Comparison with competitors

The competitor of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018, Redmi 6A, is similar in cost and characteristics. But we can note the presence of HSDPA speed and HSUPA speed capabilities in the first model. HSPA speed, on the contrary, is characteristic of the second type of smartphone.

The Redmi 6A body is larger and heavier. It has increased height and width. It is noteworthy that the screen parameters are practically the same. The differences in hardware are 2 GB of Prime memory versus 3.2 GB in Redmi, as well as 16 GB of internal memory versus 32 and 64 available from competitor Prime. In terms of colors, Redmi offers gray and pink, but there is no black tone. The camera parameters are better than the Prime, but the Redmi also has autofocus. Sound, interface and multimedia options are similar in both models. The battery is slightly more powerful in the first sample.

If we compare the gadget with a sixth-generation smartphone from the same manufacturer, there are similar parameters for network requirements and availability of use. In terms of design, the sixth generation model is almost 2 mm wider and 5 mm narrower in thickness. The weight of the second gadget has increased by 8 g. The sixth model has improved screen parameters and changed hardware parameters. The camera of the sixth model has changed slightly, gaining the benefits of phase detection autofocus.

The sound, multimedia and interface parameters remain almost the same. The capacity of the battery is higher in the fifth smartphone model.

Final review

Huawei Y5 Prime 2018 is a smartphone model from a Chinese manufacturer, which is a high-quality device. The gadget has advantages over its competitors. Among the positive aspects of a mobile device, the presence of a high-quality display, thoughtful ergonomics and the relevance of stable software stand out.

Among the disadvantages of Huawei Y5 Prime 2018, users highlight the low level of performance and mediocre capabilities of the main camera. But given the cost level of this mobile device, you should not be too strict about its parameters. The main focus of the gadget is to improve multimedia capabilities.

By studying the review ratings, you can provide the following picture:

  • the camera has 6 points, there are 10 of them;
  • cost assessment – 9 points out of 10;
  • the performance level shows 4 points out of ten;
  • design assessment – 8 points;
  • screen capabilities – 8 points.

It will be difficult for the average user to distinguish a mid-priced phone from a budget version due to the restraint of the design and the quality of the plastic. As users indicate, one cannot expect a miracle from this gadget. Since its cost indicates the simplicity of the model. Despite the mass of competitors, in terms of price-quality ratio this smartphone competes only with Redmi 6A. Although in many respects Prime is superior to its competitor.

But if a person needs a phone for calls and communication, and not for games, then this option will be beneficial both in cost and functionality. This gadget copes with the tasks that are intended for it in accordance with the cost.

Huawei's lineup is the envy of many manufacturers. After entering the international market, the company regularly releases new devices. In April 2016, another budget smartphone Huawei Y5 II. Its cost was about $120, which is typical for available hardware. The smartphone went on sale in two versions: for 3G and 4G networks. They do not differ in anything except the processor used.

The Huawei Y5II review is designed to help you find out whether it has something special and interesting, or is it a typical Chinese state employee. After all, considering the price, the acquisition does not seem to be the most profitable. At the same time, the company has representative offices around the world and warranty service no problem. Many other manufacturers from China do not have this.

If you look at the characteristics of the Huawei Y5 II, the smartphone has nothing special. Some Doogee X5 Pro seems identical, but costs 1.5 times less. However, taking into account Huawei’s official warranty, the price advantage no longer seems so striking.

Design, case materials, dimensions and weight

The smartphone is plastic, but it back panel made to look like metal. The device weighs 135 grams, dimensions are 14.4 x 7.2 cm, thickness is 8.9 mm. In general, the Huawei Y5 II is a little larger than its analogues, but it doesn’t look like a brick, and it looks decent for its price. It’s not that the textured plastic gives it the solidity of a flagship, but the smartphone doesn’t seem like a plastic toy either.

The front panel is without any buttons, glass. It can be golden, white or black. Above the screen there is a speaker, a front camera lens, a sensor window and a flash. Yes, yes, a flash, which is quite unusual for a cheap device. Below the display is the manufacturer's logo.

The back panel is made of rough plastic a la metal. It can be black, silver, gold, pink or turquoise. It is worth noting that this is a good move to attract a varied audience.

On the cover there is a camera lens, flash and logo. The control buttons (power/lock and sound) are located on the right side.
On the left is a programmable key to which you can assign your own function.
The speaker grill is on the bottom, and the MicroUSB port is also located there.
At the top there is a headset jack and a noise-canceling speaker.

CPU

The version of the smartphone for 3G networks runs on the MT6582 processor, known since 2014. 4 cores at 1.3 GHz provide an acceptable level of performance in most tasks, but are not capable of anything outstanding. The LTE modification operates on the basis of a 64-bit MT6735 with the same frequency – 1.3 GHz.

The difference between the chipsets, in addition to the bit capacity, lies in the graphics. The 32-bit chip uses a Mali MP400 core, while the 64-bit chip uses a Mali T720 core. In terms of performance, both solutions are almost identical. In AnTuTu they score just over 20 thousand, modern games pull on low. We can’t expect anything better from a budget smartphone yet.

Memory

Both Huawei versions Y5II is equipped with 1GB DDR3 RAM with low consumption. Both have about 600 megabytes of RAM free at the start. For games and programs of this capacity, it’s not that much, but it’s enough. There will be crashes if you run five heavy programs at once, but the player, browser, file manager and some messenger at the same time hold on.

About 3.5 of 8 GB are allocated for user files. It's not much, but the space deficit is expanded by MicroSD. The maximum module capacity is 64 GB. There is no OTG function, like most budget phones.

Battery

The Huawei Y5 II battery is far from the most capacious - only 2200 mAh. For 5" this is tolerable, but nothing more. When playing a video from Youtube, the Y5II worked without interruption for 3 hours 30 minutes. With the flashlight (main flash) on, the smartphone worked for 1 hour 50 minutes, and there is no way to lock the display and leave the flashlight on, you need to constantly tap on the screen.The display goes out and the flash goes out, so it’s inconvenient to use a flashlight.

The Huawei Y5 II smartphone comes with regular charging; there are no functions for accelerated battery replenishment.

Cameras

The main camera of the device is equipped with a matrix with a resolution of 8 MP and is equipped with a flash of two diodes. It doesn't have the worst f/2.0 aperture, but the pixel size is standard. As for a budget employee, the smartphone takes good pictures; compared to the already mentioned Doogee X5, the quality is noticeably better. But it doesn’t match the Korean matrices. Autofocus works correctly, clarity is normal.

In most cases, the white balance is off, so the sky is always overexposed in the photo. Even the HDR mode does not help, however, it does not give any effect at all and is simply present in the settings “for show”. Manual setting ISO also doesn’t solve anything when taking a picture, but it’s in the settings. The noise in the twilight sometimes goes off scale, but this drawback is expressed to one degree or another in everyone.

Shot with the main camera in good conditions

The front camera has a resolution of 2 MP, but is equipped with a flash. She doesn’t claim to be a “selfie guru” and doesn’t take great photos, but she’s good enough for video chatting. The flash doesn’t always help, but there is some benefit from it, and it’s better than without it at all. The Huawei Y5 II selfie camera has software for skin smoothing and eye enlargement. By moving the slider, the skin becomes waxy, acne disappears and the eyes become larger.

An example of a photo taken with a selfie camera in normal mode

Video on Huawei Y5 II is recorded in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second.

Screen

The smartphone has a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x720. It is based on an IPS matrix, so the viewing angles are quite good, close to ideal. Pixel density – 294 PPI. At a greater angle the picture gets a little dark, but this is not critical. The brightness is normal, the image remains legible in the sun. The touchscreen is glass, there is no data on its hardening. If there is an oleophobic coating, it is purely formal (the stains remain and are not wiped off the first time).

Communications

Kit communication capabilities The Huawei Y5 II is quite typical for a budget phone. There are two SIM cards, both Micro, the slots for them are not combined with anything. There is Wi-Fi, it only works with 2.4 GHz networks. Bluetooth complies with version 4.0, it can be used for both headset and data exchange. Navigation supports GPS satellites, but BDS and GLONASS are rare for budget smartphones on MTK.

Sound

The sound of Huawei Y5 II does not stand out from its competitors. The Chinese have made symmetrical grilles at the bottom end, but the speaker is hidden only under one. It is moderately loud, but rather dry. There is no volume, a hint of bass is barely visible. In the headset, things are a little better, but the sound from the headphones doesn’t pretend to be a masterpiece either. There is an FM radio on board; it works with the headphone cable as an antenna.

operating system

Despite the budget and already old processor, the Huawei Y5 II has a relatively recent Android 5.1 OS. The system is not clean, it works with the EmUI graphical add-on, typical of mobile devices from Huawei. In terms of responsiveness and smooth operation of the operating system, there are no complaints. For an overview of the firmware, see the second half of the video review, at the end of this article.

Peculiarities

Overall, the device is a typical budget smartphone. What makes it stand out from the crowd is the presence of a front flash, an abundance of colors and a good screen for a budget employee. Pleased software implementation Gesture controls, one-handed control, and other software features (see video review at the end). Otherwise, this is an ordinary inexpensive device.

Pros and cons of Huawei Y5 II

Pros:

  • good screen;
  • interesting proprietary firmware EmUI with many ease of use;
  • choice of body colors.

Flaws:

  • not the best battery;
  • old processor (version 3G);
  • not enough memory;
  • Not all camera functions work.

Who is a smartphone suitable for?

Huawei Y5 II is suitable for people who need an inexpensive, balanced device with a decent appearance. Potential smartphone users are those who do not need gigabytes of RAM, processor cores and camera megapixels. It copes with all the assigned tasks equally well, like any other budget smartphone on the market.

If you need to use the Internet from time to time throughout the day, talk a little on the phone, listen to music for a couple of hours and take a couple of photos, the Huawei Y5 II should be suitable for unpretentious users.

The abundance of colors makes the smartphone suitable for both sexes.

Our review of Huawei Y5 II

Huawei Y5 II is an inexpensive smartphone, but quite typical. There is a good IPS screen. But the processor and the rest of the hardware are not impressive in any way, therefore, compared to other Chinese, there is nothing to surprise it with.

Based on the results of the review, we can say that this regular smartphone for the ordinary (average) user who is not chasing numbers in the description, but is looking for an inexpensive, relatively balanced device. Everything in the smartphone is at the minimum acceptable level: moderate creaks, moderate lag. If you try. then in our market you can find a more affordable device from a less famous Chinese brand.

Review of Huawei Y6, an inexpensive smartphone from China

The Huawei Y5 II smartphone was announced in mid-April 2016. This device is a mid-level model in the youngest line of the Chinese manufacturer. The gadget has a nice design for its class, and also has everything you need for a full acquaintance with the Android operating system.

Appearance and ergonomics

It is interesting that the body of the U5 II, although made of plastic, very much resembles metal. There is an aluminum frame along the entire perimeter, making the device even more stylish. The speakers are located on the bottom edge, reminiscent of an iPhone. At the bottom of the screen there are virtual buttons for navigation. On the back side, in addition to the enlarged camera eye and flash, there is a corporate logo. The rounded edges of the case maximize ergonomics. And holding the device in your hand is really pleasant, even for a long time. Dimensions of Y5 II: height - 144 m, width - 72 mm, thickness - 8.9 mm, weight - 135 g. The smartphone is very compact, it is convenient to carry it in your pocket. Case color: black, gold, white, blue and pink.

Display

Huawei U5 II is equipped with a 5-inch display with a very good resolution for its level of 1280 by 720 pixels (HD). Thanks to the IPS matrix, the screen has decent viewing angles. The display is covered with ordinary glass, which actively leaves fingerprints. There is no oleophobic coating here. At the same time, the picture is surprisingly pleasant and bright.

Hardware and performance

Things with the processor in Huawei Y5 II are as follows. The 3G version has a somewhat outdated MediaTek MT6582 chip. But the modification with support for 4G networks has a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735 processor with a maximum frequency of 1300 MHz and four cores. In terms of performance, the devices are almost identical. The only major difference is that the 4G version has a more powerful Mali-T720 3D accelerator, which has a positive effect on the rendering of effects in many games. In the AnTuTu test, both models score 22000-23000 points. The Y5 II runs on Android 5.1 OS with EMUI 3.1 Lite pre-installed. The amount of memory here is minimal - 1 GB of RAM and only 8 GB of storage memory. The user can independently expand the storage up to 64 GB using MicroSD cards.

Communication and sound

The multimedia speaker in the Huawei Y5 II is relatively loud, but without even hints of surround sound. Things are more interesting with the sound in headphones, but even here the quality is far from perfect. And you can talk without any problems, since the voices of the user and the interlocutor are heard well. As already noted, there is a version with support for 4G and slower networks. Model U5 II with 3G cannot work with high-speed LTE networks. And the wireless interfaces include Bluetooth 4.0, as well as Wi-Fi (2400 MHz).

Camera

Huawei Y5 II has at its disposal an 8-megapixel camera with advanced aperture 2.0 and dual flash. But in reality, the quality of the image leaves much to be desired. Almost all photographs come out heavily overexposed. But noises appear even with the slightest absence of strong sun. With properly working autofocus, you can shoot objects close to the camera quite well. But only macro photography can please the user. It is noteworthy that the front 2-megapixel camera is equipped with a separate flash. Therefore, it is possible to take simple selfies even at night.

conclusions

The budget smartphone Y5 II from Huawei honestly earns its $120 cost. There are no obvious features in it, but the whole device turned out to be quite balanced. If you want to become the owner of an ordinary smartphone with a basic set of functions, then the Huawei Y5 II will be an excellent option.

Pros:

  • Nice design.
  • Bright display.
  • Nice price.
  • Modern OS.

Minuses:

  • Frankly weak main camera.
  • Bad external speaker.

Video reviews

As many experts admit, Huawei Y9 is perhaps one of the most interesting representatives of the “Y” model line in our online store. Despite the fact that it was initially positioned as a budget smartphone, the smartphone was able to raise the bar high in its class due to its excellent technical characteristics.

Durable monoblock

The Huawei Y9 smartphone is designed in a laconic manner metal case in classic design. The gadget gives the impression of a monolithic and reliable device - all elements fit tightly together, camera lenses only protrude slightly beyond back cover, and the screen is protected by durable glass, which is not afraid of cracks and scratches.

The matte finish on the back cover not only prevents stains from appearing on the surface of the case, but also creates a pleasant tactile sensation. The rather large device feels great in the hand due to its small thickness of only 7.9 mm and weight of 170 grams.

Excellent picture even in bright sun

Huawei Y9 has a large 5.93-inch IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, which occupies almost 76.7% of the front panel surface. Due to high level Brightness up to 376 nits, the picture remains readable even under direct light. Rich and contrasting colors, high detail – excellent screen characteristics were achieved through a combination high resolution Full HD+ and high pixel density of 407 ppi.

The smartphone will please those who require an impressive display without unnecessary details. Given the absence of frames and unnecessary cutouts, a large amount of information can be placed on the screen, which is critical when watching wide-screen videos, working with mobile sites and running games with an abundance of screen interfaces.

Huawei Y9 has high performance among representatives of the mid-price category. The manufacturer did not skimp and installed on board the gadget a powerful 8-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor with a frequency of 2.36 GHz and a Mali-T830 MP2 graphics accelerator.

The most graphically advanced modern games, such as World Of Tanks, PUBG and Mortal Kombat X, run without stuttering or lags at high settings.

Do you need to browse forums or work with applications while playing? There will be no problems with this thanks to a solid supply of 3 GB of RAM, which ensures stable operation in multitasking mode.

The built-in storage is rated at 32 GB, but the memory can be increased 8 times with a memory card up to 256 GB.

To ensure uninterrupted communication, the smartphone is equipped with slots for two SIM cards. It is worth noting the impressive data transfer speed. While most mid-budget smartphones reach speeds of up to 150 Mbps, Huawei Y9 supports full 4G at speeds of up to 301 Mbps.

4 cameras for better shots

In terms of camera quality, Huawei Y9 can easily compete not only with top flagships, but also with professional DSLRs. The main camera received a dual lens of 13 and 2 MP with an f/2.2 aperture. The sensitive sensor allows you to create excellent detailed images not only during the day, but also in low light conditions, even despite the lack of optical stabilization.

The front photo module is also made double – 8 and 2 MP. The camera not only stylishly blurs the background when shooting portraits, but also absorbs large quantity Sveta. This gives you the opportunity to experiment with depth of field while taking selfies, creating one stunning shot after another.

Besides, front-camera can recognize the face of its owner, which is used to unlock the smartphone.

4 days on one charge

We recommend buying Huawei Y9 for those who are not used to depending on a power outlet. A battery with an impressive capacity of 4000 mAh and the ability to optimize energy consumption allows you to use the device for 2 days in the most active modes. Turn down the brightness a little, turn off 4G - and the smartphone indicator will signal the need to recharge only after 4 days!

Huawei continues to update its line of low-cost smartphones Y 2018, main feature which can be considered the presence of elongated displays with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Previously, we talked about the advanced one, and today a more accessible and simpler model is on the way -.

The configuration of the smartphone is as simple as possible. In the white cardboard box you can find the smartphone itself, a power adapter (5V/1A), a USB/MicroUSB cable and a key for removing the slot for SIM cards and a memory card.

Design, materials and assembly

The smartphone is available in three possible colors: black, gold and blue.

I received a sample with a blue body color for testing. In this color, the device looks clearly fresher than in the already boring black and gold. But even so, the smartphone does not have any flair in its design. However, for the budget segment this is quite typical, and therefore forgivable.

The device body is completely plastic. The plastic itself good quality, but a little soiled.

At the front there is an elongated display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The fact that there is a fashionable aspect ratio in a budget phone certainly surprised and pleased.

The bezels on the left and right are about the same as most smartphones with a standard aspect ratio. The upper and lower ones are small, but the latter is slightly larger than the upper one, so there is no question of the symmetry of the device.

The build of Huawei Y5 2018 is average. When pressing in some places on the back of the smartphone, you can hear a squeak. The glass on the front does not have an oleophobic coating, which is also not very pleasant.

Layout of elements

Above the screen at the front there is an LED flash, proximity and light sensors, an earpiece and multimedia speaker, a front camera and an event indicator.

Under the screen there is nothing except the Huawei inscription.

The edge on the right houses the plastic power/unlock button and volume rocker.

The edge on the left has a slot for two nano SIM cards and a card MicroSD memory.

But it’s worth mentioning that I’m testing the DRA-L21 version, and in some countries, the DRA-L02 version will be sold and, unlike the first, there will be only one slot for a SIM card.

The bottom edge is equipped with a microphone and a microUSB port.

A 3.5 mm audio jack was placed on the top edge.

On the back in the upper left corner there is a block with the main camera and LED flash. The block protrudes slightly above the body. The manufacturer's logo is located a little lower.

Below are markings and other service information.

As you can see, due to the accessibility of the smartphone, some things are missing in it, for example, a fingerprint scanner and a separate multimedia speaker (it is combined with a speaker).

Ergonomics

Huawei has turned out to be very compact and lightweight smartphone. Therefore, using Y5 2018 is convenient.

The case has rounded corners, the shape is comfortable, you can use the smartphone with one hand without much effort. The controls are located in the right places - there is no difficulty in using them.

Display Huawei Y5 2018

Huawei Y5 2018 is equipped with a diagonal display 5.45 inch aspect ratio 18:9. The display matrix is IPS, and the resolution is HD+ (1440×720 pixels).

The resolution for such a diagonal is just right. It is difficult to see individual pixels unless you look closely at small objects on the screen.

The screen is excellent, especially considering the price tag. The colors are rich and bright enough for outdoor use, but not in direct sunlight. Viewing angles are good - colors and contrast remain unchanged both at linear and diagonal deviations.

In the display settings, you can adjust the color temperature to cooler or warmer tones and activate the eye protection mode.

Performance

It's time to talk about the weakest point of this smartphone.

Huawei Y5 2018 is powered by a processor entry level- MediaTek MT6739. It consists of four Cortex A53 cores with maximum clock frequency 1.5 GHz. PowerVR GE8100 is used as a graphics accelerator.

In synthetic tests, the results are expectedly low.

RAM in the device is 2 GB. 2-3 running applications are kept in memory, and the rest will be launched again. In addition, switching between applications occurs with a delay. Persistent memory- 16 GB. Initially, the user is allocated only 10.84 GB. But do not forget that it is possible to install a MicroSD memory card, so it can be expanded if necessary.

In everyday work, there is a lack of smartphone performance. There are noticeable slowdowns when opening and minimizing applications. There are lags in the shell when downloading or installing application updates via Google Play. Well, some system animations are not drawn smoothly, but jerkily.

In general, the smartphone’s performance should be sufficient for an undemanding user to perform basic tasks. It is possible that something will be corrected with the firmware update, but at this stage there are nuances in terms of speed and smoothness of operation.

Cameras Huawei Y5 2018

There is only one main camera in the smartphone - a module with a resolution of 8 megapixels and an f/2.2 aperture.

Huawei Y5 2018 copes mediocrely with daytime photography, but still the pictures are of acceptable quality, as for a budget employee. Of course, there are misfires in terms of autofocus performance, which is why sometimes you get blurry pictures. In low light, naturally, the smartphone camera records very poorly.

Huawei Y5 2018 shoots video in the maximum FullHD resolution. Its quality is, of course, low. There are no additional video shooting modes in the camera app, and there is no stabilization.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels ( f/2.2). It copes with its task as expected, the quality of the resulting photos is not bad.

The camera application has a very small number of shooting modes and there are few filters.

Autonomy Huawei Y5 2018

The capacity of the battery installed in the smartphone is 3020 mAh. This is not much, but for a smartphone with a 5.45″ diagonal and HD+ resolution it is enough for a day of work - quite typical.

When using 4G and Wi-Fi, the time indicator active work screen time was just over 5 hours. With constant Wi-Fi connection the same figure was almost 6 hours.

Simply put, an active user of Huawei Y5 2018 will have enough for a full daylight hours, and with a more gentle mode and setting up background applications, the battery should last for a day and a half.

Sound and communications

Let me remind you that the speaker in Huawei Y5 2018 is combined with a multimedia speaker. The speaker, if we talk about its performance as the main one, is average in both volume and quality - the sound is muffled. But for conversations it’s quite enough. In the sound settings, you can activate speaker volume boost.

The sound in the headphones is average. There is no equalizer or other “improvements” in the settings.

In terms of communications, everything is standard. Mobile network determined instantly. Wi-Fi modules 802.11 (b/g/n) and Bluetooth 4.2 work great. The only problem was with navigation - the GPS module determines the location slowly and with low accuracy.

Firmware and software

I received the smartphone current version operating system - Android 8.1 and EMUI 8.0 shell.

In general, from a functionality point of view, everything here is cut down when compared with the same . Fewer gestures are available, there is no one-handed control mode, although it is not really needed here.

But the customization remains the same - themes, desktop layout, and navigation panel are customizable. Split screen, shortcuts and round markers on application icons with notifications remain.

At this stage the firmware does not contain very important function, which was also found in other more expensive smartphones from the manufacturer. I mean the face unlock feature. If you believe the description of Huawei Y5 2018 on, then it will be available after an OTA update.

And if it works as well as in - that will be cool. During the operation of the smartphone, it was sorely missed - there is no fingerprint scanner, and constantly entering a password to unlock the smartphone or banking applications is already unusual and inconvenient.

conclusions

a high-quality budget smartphone with its own advantages that its closest competitors do not have. The list of its advantages includes a good display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, thoughtful ergonomics, as well as up-to-date and stable software.

The weakest points of the smartphone are performance and a mediocre main camera. But again, this is a budget employee, and it is worth evaluating it in terms of positioning.
