I connected headphones with a microphone and there is no sound. Connecting wireless headphones to a computer

In fact, connecting headphones to a computer or laptop is very simple. Minor difficulties can arise only with a USB or Bluetooth gadget, however, we will talk about this in detail. So let's get started.

The easiest way to connect your headphones to a PC is with a standard 3.5mm plug. You need to insert it into the green connector. Most often, it is signed or has an image with a headphone icon. in front of you back panel computer, line-out, microphone-in, and jack. Often these same connectors are on the front panel.

On a laptop, the headset jack looks similar. In the figure below, you can see two jacks for audio output at once. Here you can insert a pair of headphones at the same time. Unfortunately, connectors are not provided for a telephone plug.

And this is what a standard 3.5 mm plug looks like. By its appearance, you can understand that stereo is not supported here. But these sockets are most often compatible.

This is already a stereo plug that transmits 2 channels of music. It is this type of connection that is used in the vast majority of headphones.

Another way to connect an audio device to a PC is via USB (most often gaming headsets). Such gadgets have a number of advantages, but sometimes separately installed drivers are needed for their operation.

There are also Bluetooth / Wi-Fi accessories, which we will also talk about below.

Working with drivers

So with the usual wired headphones everything is clear - plug in the plug and enjoy the music. Let's see how to add USB system or wireless device.

  1. Initially, we launch the device manager, which can be found through the search.

An example of instructions is shown on Windows 10. However, the same can be done in others. operating systems, including Windows XP, 7 or 8.

  1. If the USB headphones connected automatically and the system itself found a driver for them, you will see the device name. In the same case, if the gadget is not recognized, the picture will be as follows:
  1. To solve the problem, right-click on the device name and select update drivers from the context menu.
  1. Next, click on the tile indicated by the arrow.
  1. The system will automatically try to find the missing software and install it on your computer. We just have to wait a bit.

The result should be like this.

  1. If Windows does not find the driver on its own and there is no sound, visit the official website of your headphone model and download the necessary software from there. When this is done, proceed to the installation.

Here is an example of installing a driver for Sven USB headphones. In other cases, everything is done in a similar way.

  1. Skip the greeting and move on to the next step.
  1. We accept the software license and move on.
  1. Click the install button to start the process.
  1. We are waiting for the installation to finish.
  1. In our case, it was launched AIMP player. Because of this, a warning was received that it should be closed. When this is done, click "OK".
  1. The system asks us to reboot. We save all data and allow to restart the PC.

This completes the driver installation and, if the device is working properly, it should start working.

Connecting wireless headphones

To connect a wireless device, do the following:

  1. Launch Windows Settings.
  1. Select the button marked in the screenshot.
  1. Click on the plus icon.
  1. And choose the first category.
  1. As a result, the search will start. Activate pairing mode on your headphones and Windows will find them. After that, the accessory can be used.

In earlier operating systems, the connection was made in the control panel.

Sound settings

To adjust the sound, right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray. Select "Sounds" from the drop-down menu.

If the model is equipped with a microphone, you can adjust the recording level right there. To do this, go to the desired tab, select the headphones and click "Properties".

By checking the box marked with the number “2”, we will hear our own voice and be able to evaluate the quality of the microphone.

In the "Levels" tab, the recording sensitivity is configured.

To confirm all changes, do not forget to press the "OK" button. The same can be done in the Realtek HD Manager.

Conclusion

This completes our instruction, and you now understand well how to connect headphones to a computer. If you still have questions, we recommend asking them in the comments. There you will receive a detailed answer.

Video instruction

To complete the picture, we have prepared a training video on this topic.

Headphones - personal listening device sound files. They are used when playing music or other audio information through external speakers may disturb people around you. To use these gadgets on a PC, you need to know how to connect headphones to your computer.

Wire connection

Usually, the playback of sounds from a PC to headphones occurs through a sound card. The connection to the computer is made through the connectors located on the rear wall of the system unit, but sometimes they are also placed on the front panel. Because the inputs are color-coded and the plugs are similarly colored so it's pretty hard to go wrong.

Connecting to the connectors on the rear panel

To connect headphones to the rear panel, the green plug (speakers) must be inserted into a socket of the same color. If you want to connect an accessory with a microphone, otherwise called a headset (for example, A4Tech Bloody G500), then you must also combine the pink (microphone) plug with the connector. This should be enough to listen to music.

Important! The absence of sound indicates that it is necessary to check the relevance of the drivers installed for the sound card.

This is done as follows:

  • device manager opens;
  • "Sound, game and video devices" is selected;

  • if the sound card is not displayed, new drivers are downloaded and then installed.

If after the performed manipulations the sound does not appear, you should perform the following actions:

  • by clicking on the speaker icon in the tray (lower right corner of the monitor) select "Playback devices";

  • if the headset is not displayed, set the display of disabled devices;

  • through context menu turn on the headphones, and then set them as the default device.

Connecting to the Front Panel Connectors

Connecting through the front panel is done in the same way.

If there is no sound, then enable inputs at the system level, for example, through Realtek Dispatcher HD. This is done by the following actions: the “Control Panel” opens, the “Realtek HD Manager” is located, the “Speakers” tab (“Sound inputs and outputs” for Windows XP) is selected, the folder icon is clicked in the upper right, where “Disable detection of front panel jacks” is selected ".

Advice! If there is still no sound in the headphones, and you need to connect them to the front panel of the system unit, you need to disassemble it and connect the connectors to the system board manually.

USB connection

To connect a headset (for example, SVEN AP-U980MV) via usb-output, you should select one most convenient connector and in the future, only use it to prevent resetting.

Next, you need to connect the headphones to the computer. If they do not have a microphone, then the PC will detect them as one device. If this is a headset, then variations are possible depending on the manufacturer - the device will be listed as one device or two. In the latter case one device will show up for main audio and the second one for chats with voice communication, such as Skype. After connecting, the PC will install the drivers. If this does not happen, you need to download them yourself.

Headset SVEN AP-U980MV

Connecting a wireless headset

Connecting a Bluetooth headset is carried out in different ways, depending on the presence of an adapter in the kit.

Connection via complete module

To connect this type of headset, the Bluetooth adapter must be plugged into the USB port. If the automatic installation of the drivers does not start, you will need to download and install them manually. Next, in the tray, through the Bluetooth context menu, you should select "Add a new device", and then turn on the headphones for pairing. Once detected, they will appear in the device list. In some cases, you will need to enter a password to connect (the default is "0000").

Connection without adapter

If the Bluetooth module is not included, you can connect wireless headphones (for example, JBL E40BT or DENN DHB101) via a Bluetooth adapter purchased separately. In this case, you will also have to download and install drivers on the purchased device yourself, if the OS does not offer to do this automatically when you connect it.

After installation, the Bluetooth icon will appear in the tray. Through a right-click, you need to select "Add a new device" and turn on the headset for pairing. As soon as the computer detects it, the name will be displayed in the list of found devices. To connect, you need to click on it and, if necessary, enter the password "0000". Other nuances of connecting wireless gadgets - in the material "".

Nuances when connecting

Classical ways of connecting headphones to computers were considered. However, there are variations on this process, such as when connected to a laptop or when different versions installed OS.

Features of connecting to a laptop

Unlike PCs, laptops are most often equipped with a combo microphone and headphone jack.. Therefore, you can connect to them either headphones from a phone with a combo plug, or a headset for a PC via a separately purchased special adapter. This is when a wired accessory is connected. And for Bluetooth headphones, the connection is similar to the procedure described above through the complete module, given that you do not need to insert an adapter, since it is already built into the design of the laptop.

Features of connecting a headset with a microphone

If the user plans to use the microphone, you need to:

  • open "Recording devices" through the speaker icon in the tray;
  • configure the display of disabled devices if there is no microphone;
  • turn on the microphone and set it as the default device;
  • open "Playback";
  • set the headset as the default device.

Difference in connection through Windows 7, 8 and 10

If you do not take into account different way to access sound settings in various versions OS, setting up the headset in Windows 7 and 10 is very similar.

On a note! Windows 10, like Windows 8, does better with automatic installation drivers, especially for sound cards or audio devices. On Windows 7, these steps are best done manually.

Features of old, professional and gaming headphones

If you use professional headphones used on TV or radio stations, you will find that they are equipped with a larger plug (6.5 mm). That's why an appropriate adapter is required to connect them. The same difficulties may arise when trying to connect very old models with an ONTS-VG type plug. Adapters are also available for them.

Most headphones for gamers with a USB connection type are defined by the PC as two devices: for audio playback and for chatting. For them you need to separate tasks to eliminate errors. The primary (with the "Speakers" status) will be used by default, the secondary - as a communication device.

Headphone settings

Sound adjustment

To set up the sound, you need to follow a number of simple steps:

  • open the context menu of the speaker in the tray;
  • select "Playback devices";
  • open the properties of the headphones;
  • in the "Levels" tab, set the desired volume and adjust the balance;

  • open "Improvements", where there is an equalizer with fixed sound settings depending on the genre, the ability to turn on surround sound and other parameters;

  • in the "Advanced" tab, set "Studio recording" with a frequency of at least 96000 GHz to ensure maximum quality sound;
  • Click on the "Check" button to make sure correct setting sound, as needed.

Setting up speakers and headphones at the same time

The easiest way to set up speakers and headphones to work at the same time is purchase a splitter with one 3.5mm input and two outputs, connect it to system unit, and already insert plugs into it. In this case, the sound will be played simultaneously in two devices.

If the user needs the devices to be connected to different connectors, but at the same time play sound at the same time, the following steps should be taken:

  • open the "Control Panel";
  • select "RealtekHD Manager", the "Speakers" tab, then "Advanced device settings";
  • click "Mute rear output device";
  • click "Combine input jacks of the same type";
  • fix the action by pressing "OK";
  • select the icon with the image of the envelope in the upper right;
  • in the window that appears, put two checkmarks.

Now the sound will go simultaneously to both devices connected to different connectors.

Advice! Thanks to the described method, the user will be able to switch sound from headphones to speakers and vice versa without pulling the plugs out of the connectors, thereby extending their service life.

Checking the headset for functionality

If, as a result of connecting the accessory to the computer using the methods described above, sound is not reproduced through the headphones, you should check them for serviceability. It can be determined by connecting the gadget to the smartphone. If the sound is heard - you need to look for a problem in the PC. The absence of an audio signal will indicate a breakdown of the device.

To diagnose the headset, you should connect the microphone from the headphones and use one of the online applications, for example, MicTest. This service will ask you to provide access to the microphone and say a few words into it. After that, a loudness score will be given.

Possible connection difficulties

If the headphones are connected, the drivers are updated, but there is no sound, you need to first check the mechanical control on the headphones, and then the sound volume in the tray. Next, you should open the volume mixer through the context menu, where you can adjust all applications. You need to find an application that plays video or audio in this moment, and make sure it's not muted or muted.

Thus, you can connect not only ordinary headphones to a PC or laptop, but also a computer or telephone headset. The main thing is to correctly connect the plugs to the connectors of the same color or with the appropriate designations. If there is no sound, you need to update the drivers and make a number of necessary settings. And if the headphones are working, then high-quality listening to sound files is guaranteed. Recently, laptop manufacturers are increasingly following the fashion set by the smartphone market: instead of two separate audio jacks - for headphones and a microphone - they install a combined one. In some ways, this is logical: there are now a huge number of headsets on the market that users will be happy to use for conversations on Skype or other services. And watching videos or listening to music in them is just as convenient.

However, this rotation causes some compatibility issues. It is not always easy to connect your headset to your computer, especially if it is made several years ago and has separate microphone and headphone plugs. And buying a new one is not always an option, especially if your headset is not from the budget.

How to connect headphones with a microphone to a computer so that they work?

Consider all possible combinations of computer connectors and headphone plugs.

1 plug, 1 socket

The situation when you want to connect a smartphone headset to a laptop with one output. The simplest: inserted - earned. Manufacturers specifically make a combined exit so that you can work with it so simply.

1 plug, 2 sockets

A smartphone headset must be connected to a computer, where the audio output is divided in the old fashioned way. AT general case you have three options:

  • Connect a headset to the headphone output and use the built-in microphone of your laptop or webcam. Of course, if you have another microphone.
  • Connect a headset to the microphone input and use third-party headphones or speakers. Again, if you have them. In addition, these two options require setting up Skype or other chat programs: you must separately select the audio source and microphone input.
  • Use an adapter. Sometimes such adapters are included with headsets, especially for expensive ones. They have two plugs and one input connector: sometimes they can be connected with a wire, and sometimes they can be soldered into one housing (like an airplane adapter).

Before connecting headphones with a microphone to a laptop, check the operation of the headset. Try using it for a conversation, for example, on a smartphone or on a tablet via Skype.

Two plugs, one socket

Again, you have two options to connect headphones with a microphone to your computer even like this:

  • Use the headset only in one capacity - headphones or microphone. Unsoldering a standard headset allows you to work with it in both versions. And the second device will have to be connected separately or use the built-in one (webcam microphone or laptop speakers).
  • Use a splitter adapter. As a rule, they cost about two or three dollars (especially if you buy in foreign online stores). The splitter usually has two outputs with designations, to which of them to connect the plug from the microphone, and to which - from the headphones.

Two plugs, two sockets

Everything is extremely simple here, the main thing is to remember that the plug and headphone jack are usually painted in green color, and the microphone in pink.

Tips for all occasions

  • After connecting, be sure to check for sound and microphone input. This can be done through the Windows system mixer (the speaker icon in the lower right corner, in the tray). Right click on the icon, select "Playback Devices" to test the headphones or "Recording Devices" to test the microphone. A flashing green volume indicator is shown opposite the device you need during operation. Make this device the default choice.
  • Listen to your own voice in headphones and adjust (in the same place, in the mixer) a comfortable microphone volume level.
  • You can buy an external sound card for ridiculous money and connect it via USB. The sound quality of an inexpensive card will be about the same as on the built-in one, but there is always a separate microphone input and a headphone output. Special drivers for such cards are not needed in Windows 7 or later.

And let's hope that laptop manufacturers will not take a bad example from Apple and refuse wired connections in principle.

I bought myself recently bluetooth headphones, and decided to write a short instruction on how to connect them to a laptop, or a computer on which Windows 10 is installed. In fact, everything is very simple there. And if everything is fine, then the connection process takes less than a minute. But there are times when things don't work out. For example, you cannot turn on Bluetooth in Windows 10, the computer does not see wireless headphones, the connection fails, no sound is played, etc. Therefore, in this instruction I will show how to connect Bluetooth headphones to a computer. And if something doesn’t go according to plan, some error appears, or other problems arise, then you describe your case in the comments. I will try to help everyone.

In Windows 10, working with Bluetooth is much better organized than in previous versions. The system itself almost always automatically finds and installs the Bluetooth adapter driver, understands which device you have connected to the computer, and how to "communicate" with it. After connecting your JBL headphones E45BT to ASUS laptop via Bluetooth, I realized that at least something in Windows 10 works stably.

In the playback device settings, I configured everything in such a way that after turning off the power to the headphones, the sound automatically goes to the speakers. And after turning on the headphones, literally in a couple of seconds they automatically connect to the laptop and the sound goes to the headphones. That is, once set up the connection, and in the future, the headphones are connected automatically. I will also write about this at the end of the article. You may find this information useful.

What do you need to connect Bluetooth headphones to a computer or laptop?

There are several nuances:

  • If you have a laptop, then it most likely has a built-in Bluetooth adapter. This is very easy to check by looking at the specifications of your laptop. All you need to do is install the Bluetooth adapter driver if Windows 10 didn't install it by itself. Most often, the driver is installed automatically. In the settings, in the "Devices" section, you should have a tab "Bluetooth and other devices". I wrote more about this in the article:.
  • If you have a desktop computer (PC), then Bluetooth is most likely not on it. Although, if I am not mistaken, on some new motherboards there is a built-in adapter. If it is not there, then you will not be able to connect the headphones. But there is a solution, you can buy USB Bluetooth adapter. How to choose it, I wrote in the article. It is connected to the USB port of the computer, the driver is installed on it (automatically, from the included CD, or from the Internet), and you can connect your Bluetooth headphones to your PC. The price of such adapters is low. Approximately, like a pack of good chips 🙂 Of course, there are also expensive models.

And of course, we need the headphones themselves, which can connect via Bluetooth connection. This is usually written on the packaging, in the specifications, etc.

Connect Bluetooth headphones to Windows 10

I think it's better to do everything step by step. So it will be more clear, and it’s easier for me to write instructions.

1 First we need to enable Bluetooth on our laptop or PC. If it's not already enabled. If enabled, there should be a blue icon in the notification bar. And if it is not there, then you can open the notification center and turn it on by clicking on the appropriate button.

But you can not do this, but immediately go to the parameters and activate it there.

2 Open Start and select Settings. There, go to the section called "Devices". See screenshot.

3 On the "Bluetooth and other devices" tab, turn on wireless adapter (if it's disabled), and click on "Add Bluetooth or other device".

4 Turn on the headphones. The indicator should flash blue (meaning they are searchable). If it does not flash, the headphones may be connected to another device. Disable them. Or find the button with the "Bluetooth" icon on the case and press it (may need to press and hold). It all depends on specific model.

5 In the window on the computer, select "Bluetooth" and our headphones should appear in the list of available devices. Just click on them.

The status should be "Connected", or "Connected voice, music".

6 Our headphones also appear in the list of connected devices. If you click on them, you can disconnect or connect, as well as delete them. Then you can reconnect, as I showed above.

After turning on the power of the headphones, they should automatically connect to the computer. I have it, without any advanced settings. But the sound may not automatically go to the headphones. It needs to be switched in the management of playback devices. Now I will tell you how to fix it. Make it so that after turning on the headphones, the sound from the computer is automatically played through them. And after turning off - through the speakers, or the built-in speakers of the laptop.

Go to "Playback Devices".

Update. After another windows updates 10 settings have changed a bit. To open the menu shown below, after right-clicking, select "Sounds" and go to the "Playback" tab.

Or select "Open audio settings" from the menu and set the desired audio input and output device in the settings.

Selects as an output device, or input (if you have headphones with a microphone and you need one) your Bluetooth headphones.

That's all. When I turn on my headphones, they automatically connect and music starts playing through them. When I turn it off, the speakers sound. Very comfortably.

Possible connection problems

Let's look at a few common problems:

  • Problem: in the computer settings there is no Bluetooth button and a section in the parameters. Solution: You need to install the driver for the Bluetooth adapter. Check if it is in Device Manager. You also need to make sure that your computer has the adapter itself. On desktop computers, they usually do not. You need to use external ones that connect via USB.
  • Problem: The computer does not find the headphones. Do not connect to a computer. Solution: you need to make sure that the headphones are turned on and searchable. The indicator on the headphones should flash blue. Turn them off and on again. They should also be close to the computer. You can try connecting them to another device. For example, to a smartphone.
  • Problem: The headphones are connected to the computer, but there is no sound. Do not play sound. Solution: set their status to "Use by default" in Windows settings 10. As I showed above.

In some cases, you may need to install drivers, or a program that can be downloaded from the website of your Bluetooth manufacturer stereo headset. In my case, there were no problems, everything works like clockwork. If something doesn't work for you, write about it in the comments.

It would seem that the modern headphone plug is the oldest technology used in laptops. Still: the 3.5 mm jack appeared back in the 1950s! However, it has undergone major changes in recent years. Therefore, the question of how to connect headphones with a microphone to a computer has become much more difficult than ten or fifteen years ago.

The main reason for upgrading the 3.5 standard was Cell phones. For them, manufacturers have developed a universal standard for wired headsets that require an additional contact for the microphone. At the same time, it was necessary to ensure backward compatibility with connectors and plugs for regular headphones. This problem was solved, but now the user has to unravel the riddle.

Consider two options, based on what kind of computer you have:

  • With two connectors - for a microphone and headphones / speakers separately. These are almost all desktop computers and most of the laptops released before the last five years, as well as modern budget models, workstations and classic business laptops.
  • With one combo connector. These are modern ultrabooks (MacBook and its Windows imitators), convertible tablets, monoblocks and some other models.

Computer with two slots

On the sound card of such a computer (or on board a laptop), you can see two identical-looking 3.5 mm connectors. Usually one of them is colored orange or pink - this is the microphone input. Near it is a stylized microphone. The other one - green - is a headphone output or external speakers. Headphones, also stylized, are depicted next to such an output.

On headsets with separate plugs color scheme the same: orange / pink - microphone, green - headphones. Your task is to insert the plugs into the connectors of the corresponding color.

These laptops are often not running the newest Windows versions, however, this is not a problem. How to set up a microphone on headphones on Windows 7:

  1. Connect your headset to your computer as above
  2. Open the Control Panel, and in it - the "Sound" menu
  3. Select the "Record" tab. It should show all microphones in the system. In a laptop, there are usually two of them (built-in and headset); if there is an external webcam, sound card or other devices, then there may be more microphones.
  4. Make a sound (for example, speak aloud) and see which of the microphones reacts to it with green bars on the input indicator.
  5. Select this microphone as your default device.

Single slot computer

The combined microphone and headphone jack is now installed in most laptop models, as well as in tablets and transformers. This input does not have a characteristic color (as on models with separated input and output): as a rule, it is just black.

Phone headsets are usually perfectly compatible with such an input / output, and the system recognizes them instantly.

How to connect a microphone from headphones to a computer if there is no separate connector for it? There are several ways to do this, but they all require some kind of compromise.

  • Insert the microphone plug into the universal jack. This will turn off the laptop's own speakers, as the system recognizes the connection of external headphones (although in fact there are none).

This method can be used if you connect a Bluetooth speaker along with a microphone, and the sound will go through it (for example, for a hands-free video call in Skype). For confidential conversations, this technique is not suitable: it is easier to use a full-fledged Bluetooth headset.

  • Buy a splitter adapter. The cost of such an adapter is from 120 rubles on AliExpress. Buying offline will be somewhat more expensive, but not critical. Through this adapter you can connect your favorite old headset.

The advantage of the splitter is the absence of problems with drivers, as well as free USB connectors. The disadvantage is that sometimes on cheap models the microphone input and headphone output are not indicated, so you have to constantly use the poke method - in the truest sense of the word. It is also possible to receive a defective copy.

  • Buy external sound card. Such cards are connected via USB and have two connectors - a classic microphone input and an audio output (like on laptops with two connectors).

The most affordable external soundcards are even cheaper than a splitter, and slightly more advanced ones are not much more expensive. The sound quality from their use will not improve, but it will become more convenient to use. However, this option is not suitable if you have few USB connectors and for some reason you cannot use the hub.

Yes, you will most likely have to spend some money on accessories. But it is incomparable with the price of a good new headset with desired type connector. Therefore, this can be considered profitable investment.
