The PC does not see the headset. Front soundbar not working

Hello everyone my Dear friends and guests of my blog. Today we will continue our topic with laptops. Namely, today I would like to tell you why the laptop does not see headphones in Windows 10. We will try to touch on the most basic problems. Go!

Most often, users are faced with two main reasons due to which this problem occurs:

  • Computer malfunction;
  • Damage to the device for listening to sound.

In order to determine a specific problem, you need to connect the headphones to another device (PC, smartphone, MP3 player). If they work, then the cause of the malfunction must be sought in the laptop itself. If not, you should take a closer look at the audio hardware.

Checking the physical connection settings

To get started, make sure you:

Drivers

If the sound never appeared, then everything is possible because of the drivers on this computer. Check if they are installed at all and everything is in order with them. To complete this task, you need:

  • Right-click on the computer icon, selecting "Properties".
  • Select item "Device Manager".

In the column " Audio inputs and outputs” indicates the drivers you need. If you see a yellow exclamation mark there: the program does not work, or it is not installed at all.

Reinstall or update drivers

Use the driver disc that came with your computer. It has everything necessary programs and it is from him that we can update the driver sound card. If this DVD has been lost, you should check the model of your audio card. To do this, go back to the device manager section and find the category " Audio game video devices". Next to the speaker icon, you will find the full name of your equipment.

The next step is to find the driver. You can find it on the official website of your audio card manufacturer (the safest and most reliable option) or on other third-party resources. Download the install file, delete old driver in the device panel (if present) and install it current version on computer. Then restart your PC.

Alternatively, you can download a collection of programs that will automatically install and configure the drivers for you. However, in this case, you need to make sure that the collection:

  • Contains programs for your audio card;
  • Does not install unnecessary or malicious applications on your PC.

Headphone setting

The laptop may not see audio hardware due to internal Windows settings. Personally, I use windows 10, but this is also true for versions 7 and 8. To solve this problem, you need:

  • Open " Control Panel»;
  • Click on the inscription " Equipment and sound»;
  • Go to the section "Sound";
  • Select the headphone icon and click on the " Set as default».

There is still no sound in the headphones. Let's look further.

Scanning for viruses

As strange as it may sound, rogue viruses can also play a role in the headphone connection problem. Therefore, as an option, run the system for viruses. To do this, you can use either the antivirus you have installed. And if you don’t want to install anything (which I don’t recommend), then run through the computer at least one of, for example, DrWeb cure it.

System Restore

Your problem might be due to a recent system glitch. If the difficulties started just a few days ago, you can try. To complete this task, you need:

  • Open " Control Panel»;
  • Find the search box (in the right upper corner);
  • Enter the text there " Recovery";
  • Click on the “Recovery” section that appears;
  • Click on the button " Open System Restore»;
  • Choose checkpoint and start the process.

But personally, I prefer to do it easier, namely, I call and write there Rstrui.

Please note that during system restore, programs and services that you have installed in recent days may be deleted. But it will not affect regular files in any way.

Other causes of problems

The saddest reason why your laptop does not see the headphones connected to it is a broken jack or sound card. If none of our recommendations helped to solve the problem, we recommend that you seek help from service center. Perhaps zero volume is a symptom of serious problems in your computer.

In general, this is all that I wanted to tell you today. I hope that at least one of my tips today has helped you. So don't forget to subscribe to my blog updates and join my social groups. Good luck to you. Bye Bye!

Sincerely, Dmitry Kostin.

The front panel with audio jacks and USB ports is an integral part of any modern computer. This is a very convenient thing that allows you to connect without unnecessary gestures removable media, headphones or microphone. However, it is often with the front panel that problems arise, as a result of which the sound stops working, and you can no longer use the computer in the usual mode. In this article, we will try to understand possible reasons similar faults.

Before you start troubleshooting problems with the front headphone and microphone jacks, you need to make sure that all drivers are installed correctly and that sound is working properly on the back of the computer. If when connecting the headphones on the reverse side system block there is no sound, then the malfunction is more global, and, therefore, requires a different approach to the solution and a separate conversation. We will devote the same article entirely to the front panel.

Why is the sound on the front panel not working?

We start the diagnostics by remembering at what point the inputs stopped functioning. For example, if the computer has only recently been assembled, and you have never used headphones with a microphone, then the connectors to the motherboard may have been incorrectly connected (or not connected at all) during assembly, i.e. the front panel is simply not connected properly. If the panel used to work properly, then try to set the action, after which the problems probably started. Maybe some settings were made in the Control Panel or BIOS. If nothing comes to mind, follow the guidelines below.

Checking Headphone and Microphone Input Connections

This item will be relevant for those cases when the computer was disassembled / assembled and after that the sound on the front panel stopped working. You need to make sure that the panel is really connected - the connector is connected to the correct pins on the motherboard, and the integrity of the lead wires is not broken. To connect the front panel, both one-piece block of two types - AC'97 and HD Audio, as well as separate connectors with markings can be used.

The AC'97 format is obsolete and is now rare. At the same time, the HD Audio (High Definition Audio) standard is now used everywhere. On the motherboard, the connector for connecting the front panel HD Audio plug is usually letter designation, for example F_Audio.

If you are still not sure where to connect the header, refer to the manual for your motherboard. Below we provide AC'97 and HD Audio pinouts.

Scheme of connecting individual connectors to AC'97:

Front Panel Configuration in BIOS

Sometimes it happens that the front panel works according to the old AC'97 standard, and the motherboard provides for the new High Definition Audio specification. By the way, both connectors are similar, and the user may not pay attention to this discrepancy. At the same time, there should be no problems when connecting a panel with AC'97 to a motherboard with High Definition Audio. True, in some cases you will have to change the operating mode through the BIOS.

We go into the BIOS by pressing the F2 or DEL key when booting the computer. Next, go to the "Advanced" section and look for the item "Onboard Devices Configuration". A little lower is the “Front Panel Type” parameter (it can also be called High Definition Front Panel Audio or Legacy Front Panel Audio). Switch it from HD Audio to AC97. If your front panel uses HD Audio and the BIOS is set to AC97, then switch back.

Some motherboards do not provide the ability to change the front panel mode, but only allow you to disable or enable the sound controller. The Onboard Audio Function parameter (may have a different name) is responsible for this function, providing only the values \u200b\u200bof "Enabled" and "Disabled". In such a situation, you do not need to reconfigure anything in the BIOS, and the sound should work without additional manipulations.

Setting up sound devices in the Windows 7/10 Control Panel

If you are one hundred percent sure that the front headphone and microphone inputs are connected correctly and everything is set correctly in the BIOS, it's time to go to the sound settings in the Windows environment 7/10. First of all, go to the Control Panel, and then to the "Sound" section. On the "Playback" and "Record" tabs, we check that the default devices are installed.

To display all devices, right-click anywhere in the window and check the boxes "Show disconnected devices" and "Show disconnected devices".

On the "Playback" tab, right-click on the active device and select "Properties". In the "General" section, we look at the list of connectors - the item "Front panel 3.5 mm jack" should be present.

In the same way, we check the properties of the microphone on the "Record" tab.

Front Panel Configuration Using Realtek HD Manager

If all the above steps did not work and the front panel for headphones and microphone still does not work, we try to play around with the Realtek HD settings. At correct installation drivers, this sound configurator must be present on your computer. We launch it using the icon on the taskbar or, if there is none, by following the path Control Panel - Realtek HD Manager.

In the program window, select the "Speakers" section and click on yellow folder in the upper right corner.

We make sure that there is a checkmark next to the item "Disable detection of front panel jacks", if it is not there, be sure to set it.

We save the settings and check if the sound on the front panel is working now. In most cases, the problem should be resolved.

Here, in the Realtek HD Manager, you can make additional settings devices. Follow the link in the upper right corner of the window.

Using the switches, we achieve the desired sound configuration.

We tried to tell you as fully as possible about how to act in a situation where the microphone and headphones on the front panel do not work on the computer. If none of the above helped, try reinstalling or updating your sound drivers. In extreme cases, seek help from specialists.

The lack of sound in the speakers of the headphones after they are connected to a laptop or desktop computer is motivated by many reasons. They can be divided into two main groups: failures in the program and malfunctions of the equipment itself. What to do if the headphones do not work on a laptop or PC? We offer you several solutions and detailed instructions to fix such a problem.

To find the reason why the headphones on the computer do not work, it is necessary to carry out sequential diagnostics of all systems.

If it was not possible to connect headphones on the front panel of the system unit, then connect them from the back to the outputs of the audio card.

Why Windows 10 doesn't recognize the headset

If the PC hardware and headphones are working, then the OS probably does not see the headset due to a failure in the sound settings or incorrect operation of the sound card / built-in driver motherboard adapter.

In a standard situation, when headphones are connected to the 3.5 jack, sound is automatically played through them, or a window appears asking you to select which device is connected to the PC. By specifying a headset, the user translates the sound to it. However, this does not always happen.

The first thing to do if the headphones do not play is to select “sound options” through the tray icon and see what options are displayed in the playback devices. If the headset is displayed, then sometimes it is enough to switch to it, and also activate "use by default". In this case, after each connection, the audio will automatically play through them.

If this did not help, or there is no option in the tray to change the sound options, then the probable problem is outdated, broken, missing driver. In the device manager, you can see the item "audio inputs and output". If there is a yellow or red icon next to the device name, or in this menu generally empty, then it confirms the failure software. In such a situation, you need to download the necessary driver from the equipment manufacturer's website.

Advice! If there is any doubt about who made the sound card or motherboard (if the adapter is built in), then DriverPackSolution will help correct the situation and at the same time update the software for all hardware.

How to set up a headset in Windows 7

Setting up sound in Windows 7 is no different from newer versions of the operating system.

If the sound does not come to the headphones on its own, you need to open the "playback devices" through a special tray icon. If among the available devices there is the required headset, switch to it and click on "use by default".

If the situation has not changed, then need to update software. The best way to do this is through the website of the sound card manufacturer. If it is not in the PC, that is, the headphone output is installed on the motherboard, then the software needs to be updated for the motherboard. The most commonly used driver is from Realtek. You can go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest software, taking into account the version and bitness of Windows.

Why the PC does not see the Bluetooth headset

Although the sound quality is wired headphones still better than Bluetooth models in most cases, some users stop using the latter. As a rule, the connection does not cause any particular difficulties, but if the synchronization failed, then you should know how to deal with it. The instruction is given below.

Checking the correct connection

Before considering complex options for troubleshooting, it is worth making sure that pairing is initially done correctly.

  1. On the headset with a special button, you must activate the search mode. Sometimes the switch is simply moved to the desired position, in other cases it is required to hold the search / play button for several seconds. The correct option for a particular headset should be looked for in its instructions.
  2. Majority bluetooth headphones have an LED that starts flashing quickly when searching for available devices to connect.
  3. On the PC, you need to click on the Bluetooth icon in the tray and open "add Bluetooth devices". If there is no icon, then you need to open "parameters" - "devices" - "Bluetooth".
  4. Select the desired accessory and perform pairing.

Adding a Bluetooth device

Possible malfunctions

If following the instructions for synchronization did not help, then it is worth checking a number of reasons why the failure occurred.

First of all, you should make sure that the device is equipped with a Bluetooth module. For laptops, this function has long been standard, stationary computers have a BT module extremely rarely. To check, go to the device manager and look for the inscription Bluetooth. If it is not there, then there is no built-in adapter - you will need external USB module.

The second common cause of failure is driver not working. In this case, in the device manager, you should look at the name of the adapter and download software for it from the manufacturer's website. If we are talking about a laptop, then you can simply find your model on the company's website and download all the necessary software for it.

Important! After installing / updating the driver, you need to restart the device and try to synchronize again.

Finally, one good advice: if there is no sound in your headphones on a computer or laptop, then there is no need to fuss - calmly and methodically check all systems. Follow the method from simple refusal to a difficult case, and everything will work out. AT otherwise headphones just Broke down, and need to be repaired or replaced.

After the transition to the "top ten" or its next update Many users are experiencing a problem due to which the headphones on the computer in Windows 10 do not work, or the system cannot see the audio playback device.

For the most part, the source of the snag is sound driver- software responsible for the functioning of the sound card. Why after windows updates does it suddenly stop working with installed drivers?

Most likely, in the process of receiving the update, the driver itself was also updated, and it was not loaded from any other place, as with Microsoft servers. This means that instead of official software, a product created by a software corporation was downloaded to the user's computer, and third-party software has never been stable and 100% compatible.

The reason that the laptop does not see the headphones is, first of all, an outdated or third-party sound driver. Consider how to get rid of it and get official software.

Headphone setting options

When faced with a problem, you should not immediately blame the drivers for everything. You may just need to adjust your headphones. Let's start with this.

1. If the device is connected to a PC through the connector on acoustic system(speakers), you should make sure that this port is functioning by connecting, for example, another audio playback device.

2. We check the headphones by connecting them to another laptop or smartphone, they may not work on their own.

3. Make sure the plug is connected to the correct socket (colored green).

4. Try to use a different audio input, the front one may not work, for example, it is not connected.

5. Make sure the pinout is correct, because the AC'97 connection type will not work on Windows 10, it should be replaced with progressive HD Audio.

6. Go to Device Manager and check for a driver for the motherboard chipset.

Updating the driver from the developer's site

You only need to download device management software from official resources, despite Microsoft's recommendations to update drivers through the Windows 10 toolkit.

1. Find out the manufacturer of the sound card (most likely it's Realtek).

3. Download the installer with a package of libraries and applications to control the sound device.

4. Run the installer and follow a couple of instructions, removing the old software.

5. We restart the computer and check if installing the driver helped solve the problem.

1. Open the Device Manager by holding Win + X and clicking on the item of the same name in the drop-down menu.

2. Open context menu audio device and click "Update Drivers ...".

3. We choose the Internet as the source of content.

4. Upon completion of the update, we reboot and check if our device is working.

Headphone setting

If installing the latest software version does not solve the problem, then the problem lies in the incorrect configuration of the speakers. Let's see how to enable headphones for sound playback in the Control Panel.

1. We call the applet "Realtek Manager" or "Sound Manager" through the context menu of the tray icon.

2. Go to the settings.

3. Check the box next to the option responsible for dividing the sound into two streams, each of which will be played through its own device connected to the front and rear jacks.

After that, everything should fall into place.
