Dimensions of Meizu M2 laptop. Meizu m2 note - Specifications

And after 6 months, the hero of our review - the model Meizu M2. Why did the manufacturer update the line so quickly, while visually it is quite difficult to distinguish these two brothers? The thing is that these “brothers” differ not only in cost, but also in the positioning of their company.

Appearance and features

Some controls have undergone slight changes compared to the first version. But in appearance Meizu M2 remained as attractive as its predecessor. The glossy plastic case is pleasant to the touch, although it slips a little, which can result in the gadget falling.

Feature Meizu M2 is the ability to use two SIMs (Micro and Nano). In this case, instead of the last one, you can insert a card micro memory SD. This is quite specific, but is practiced even among famous manufacturers (Samsung and Huawei).

In general, the smartphone leaves a pleasant impression. But what happens if we press the power button?

Display, filling

When you turn on your smartphone, you immediately notice the large 5” display. Its resolution is 1280x720 pixels. This indicator is quite enough to clearly display information on the screen without a hint of pixelation.

The internal filling of the smartphone is as follows:

1. Processor – Mediatek MT6735, 4 cores 1.3 GHz, 64-bit architecture;
2. RAM – 2 GB;
3. Video processor - Mali T720 MP3, frequency 450 MHz.

Drawing a conclusion from these parameters, we can say that this gadget has inside itself “organs” that are typical for mid-price class smartphones.

It is worth noting that the gadget is equipped internal memory on 16 and 32 GB, which is very pleasing given the possibility of expansion. To this volume you can save not only movies, games, but also photo and video materials taken with one of the built-in cameras. The main one is equipped with a 13 MP matrix, and the front one is 5 MP.

Performance and battery

The device runs on Android 5.1 OS. With branded shell Flyme OS. The manufacturer says that this solution completely eliminates performance drawdowns, which are surprisingly quite high (benchmarks give indicators close to high).

The gadget’s battery, to be honest, is not designed for long-term autonomy. For a 5” display, the 2500 mAh reserve is frankly small. With average usage, the battery lasts only 15-18 hours.

Competitors and results

Surprisingly, competitors Meizu M2 not so much. If we take smartphones that are within +/- $10, then there are no worthy competitors here at all. The lower price category is not even worth attention, and among the more expensive models, ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE500CL, Lenovo S60, Xiaomi MI3 are notable.

If you look at it in general, the quality of the gadget is very good. Photos, videos, application processing speed and display - everything is on par for the price category of the device. As a result, we can say that Meizu M2 worth the money that the manufacturer asks for it.

Contents of delivery

The device comes in approximately the same box as the M1 Note. There are a couple of differences: the inscription on top is raised, the inner area is painted blue. Inside the box: smartphone, network adapter, USB cable, paperclip for removing the SIM tray and waste paper. By the way, the packaging and interior “decoration” look more decent than the same thing on the M1 Note.

Positioning

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of... no, not Meizu, but specific model– M1 Note. When I first came to review the device, I was initially skeptical about it, since I knew in advance that the M1 was a budget model, and that there were more sophisticated MX4 and MX4 Pro. During operation first note I’m so used to the ergonomic design, the cool screen, and the excellent camera that you won’t believe it, I still use the gadget as my main phone. I'm happy with almost everything about the M1 Note: big screen, smooth animation, two SIM cards, excellent camera and so on. The only thing missing was higher speed on the Internet, since the device only worked with 3G, and a slot for a memory card (however, Meizu does not pamper users with slots for microSD).

As soon as I got a taste for the new M1 Note, rumors began to circulate about the appearance of the M2 Note, which was expected to have an even cooler screen, better camera, LTE on board, more memory and a slightly different appearance (frankly, the M1 Note looks quite primitive, especially in the white version).

To the delight of me and other M1 users Note company Meizu held another presentation at the beginning of June 2015. It showed a seemingly updated model of the M1 Note called M2 Note. I don’t know about you, but I expected from the “second coming” what I described in the paragraph above, but I received a completely different device.

After getting acquainted with the summer new product, it turned out that it has a weaker processor than its older brother, the camera takes worse pictures, a rather ugly mechanical button has appeared, and the device looks like something between the M1 Note and MX4 Pro.

In general, I propose to understand the pros and cons of the M2 Note in this review.

I’ll answer the question about the price right away: the cost will be from 13,000 to 15,000 rubles, and it will go on sale in July-August.

Design, dimensions, control elements

I was never particularly delighted with the appearance of the Meizu M1 Note - a simple design without any decorations. Naturally he looks like Apple iPhone 5C even feels like it, only the size is larger. The new M2 Note is a cross between the Apple iPhone 5C and Samsung Galaxy S6 and Meizu MX4 Pro. That's right: you have to take it from different companies only better.

As for me, the M2 Note looks decent, especially from the front side. Everything is clear on the back – glossy plastic. Among the innovations is a touch-mechanical button under the display. It is made in the style of the Galaxy S6 button: small, oval with silver edges. For example, in MX4 Pro it is rectangular.

Next I will express a purely personal opinion. I didn’t like the mechanical key back in the MX4 Pro – it’s a bit stiff, with a very short stroke and a characteristic click-click. The M2 Note is the same. If in the M1 Note it was touch-sensitive (touch it lightly and it worked), then in the M2 Note you have to press it with force. In addition, the button does not always work to exit to the desktop. This usually happens with a quick touch-plus-click combination. It's terribly annoying. I have to click a second time. I can't call myself particularly nervous, but the high-frequency sound of a button click makes me a little nervous.

The key also has a touch zone: touch – go back one position.

Dimensions

  • M1 Note – 150.7 x 75.2 x 8.9 mm
  • M2 Note – 150.9 x 75.2 x 8.7 mm

  • M1 Note – 145 grams
  • M2 Note – 149 grams

Despite the fact that the thickness of the M1 has become slightly less than the thickness of the M2, the first device feels more massive. The fact is that in the M1 the edges are smoother, it feels thinner in the hand and fits more comfortably. I think in terms of ergonomic design, the M2 Note is inferior to its older brother. Another plus is not a new item.

“The important change from a design point of view is the colors. There are fewer of them because, according to Bai Yunxiang, there are more different colors proved difficult for users. As a result, we left the most popular ones: white, blue and pink made of glossy plastic, and also added gray color made of matte plastic.” Quote from the first acquaintance with the device from Artem Lutfullin.

The front side is protected by AGC Dragontrail/NEG T2X-1 glass (the M1 had glass from third generation Corning). The coating is just as durable as the M1 Note. There is a cool oleophobic layer - the finger glides without problems, but fingerprints are still noticeable. To ensure that the screen does not wear out too much, the developers made a small side above the front part. It is formed by the transition from the back to the side faces.

The plastic here is ordinary, nothing original. It wears off over time, so choose light colors, definitely not gray. On white it's not noticeable at all. My M1 Note is already pretty worn down at the bottom.

The assembly is good, similar to the assembly of the M1: there is no play or crunch, the back side of the device is not pressed through to the battery.

Let me summarize by the appearance of the M2 Note relative to the M1 Note. The device has become thinner, but you don’t feel it. The button is completely inconvenient, sometimes “Home” does not work (mechanical pressing). But the assembly and quality of materials remained excellent. The screen is also at least no worse than that of the M1 Note. The conclusions are subjective, you can argue with them in the comments under the article.

On top of the front panel there is a speech speaker. He's loud. The quality is no different from the speaker in the M1 Note. On the right is the dynamics: front-camera, proximity and lighting sensors. They work correctly. Since the M1 Note had an event indicator built into the touch button, the M2 Note also had to be moved to a more traditional place - to the left of the speaker. In my opinion, this is less original - like everyone else.

At the bottom there is a micro-USB, microphone and speaker. On the top there is a second microphone and a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones.

I think many of those who use or have used the M1 Note have noted the extremely poor location of the power button - at the top. The M2 Note tried to work out the mistakes and... well, in general, they tried. The fact is that it is located left center. Question: discrimination against right-handers or is one of the developers left-handed? In short, you need to press with the middle finger of your right hand. This is not very convenient to do. The button is tight and almost recessed into the body. It seems like they came up with it at the last moment:

Tengfey, where are we going to put the button?
- It doesn’t matter where, Changming, we have a double tap!

Just above the power button is a volume rocker key. Just as “comfortable”.

There is a metal slide on the right edge. They can accommodate either two nanoSIM cards, or one nanoSIM and a card microSD memory. Apply maps, Karl! In such a huge case, they couldn’t make two microSIM slots and a microSD slot separately. I understand when every millimeter is important, but look Meizu M2 Note disassembly, two Apple iPhone 5 will fit inside.

On the reverse side there is a camera recessed into the body and a dual LED flash with warm and cold glow.

Display

Meizu M2 Note uses a screen with a diagonal of 5.5 inches. Let me remind you that the M1 Note has the same display, the MX4 has 5.36, and the MX4 Pro has 5.5. The physical size of the M2 Note display is 68x121 mm, the frame at the top and bottom is 15 mm, on the right and left is approximately 3.5 mm. There is an anti-reflective coating.

The display resolution of the M2 Note is FullHD, that is, 1080x1920 pixels, density is 400 pixels per inch. IGZO IPS OGS matrix from Sharp.

The maximum brightness of white color is 409 cd/m2 (for M1 - 480), the maximum brightness of black color is 0.58 cd/m2. Contrast ratio – 704:1.

The white line is the goal we are trying to achieve. The yellow line is the actual screen data. You can see that we are directly below the target curve at values from 0 to 60%, which means that at each value the image is not bright enough, and from 60 to 100% it is a little overexposed. The yellow line is the actual average amount of red, green and blue.

The average gamma value is 2.17.

Judging by the levels graph, it is almost an ideal case when all colors are within 100%.

The temperature remains virtually unchanged and remains around 6800 K.

Judging by the diagram, the data obtained does not quite correspond to the sRGB triangle. It is slightly shifted upward. The main thing is that it is no less than the sRGB triangle.

Almost all gray points are located within a radius of DeltaE=10, which indicates that gray colors will not contain other shades of colors. Serious indicator!

The viewing angles are maximum; at certain angles the screen does not turn yellow or violet.

Battery

This model uses a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3100 mAh.

When working with the device, the battery lasted for about 19-20 hours: about 20-30 minutes of calls per day, about 3-6 hours of 4G use, about 20 hours of Wi-Fi (constant synchronization of mail, Twitter, WhatsApp, " Skype” and so on), several dozen photos, 2 hours of listening to music.

In a more gentle mode (3G, music, a little less talking), the gadget works for up to two days. If you leave only data synchronization (Wi-Fi), you can count on 3-4 days. Up to 13 hours of continuous talk time.

When the screen backlight brightness is automatically adjusted, the display operates for 2 to 3 hours.

Meizu M1 Note has better numbers (up to 5 hours of screen, 24 hours of work), but it does not have 4G.

Communication capabilities

The device is equipped with two nanoSIM slots. Both connectors support 4G LTE networks in Russia (FDD-LTE / TD-LTE / TD-SCDMA / WCDMA / GSM). There is no NFC chip.

The rest is standard: Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n) Dual-Band, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, microUSB connector (USB 2.0) for charging/synchronization. GPS navigation works without problems.

Memory and memory card

Meizu M2 Note has 2 GB of dual-channel random access memory(LPDDR3 800 MHz). On this moment This is the typical volume of most smartphones in the mid-price segment, and there are still few devices with three gigabytes. Those who don't have enough can safely run to the store for the MX4 Pro.

Built-in memory 16 and 32 GB depending on the model. Unlike the M1 Note, the M2 Note now has a slot for a microSD memory card. The maximum volume is up to 128 GB!

Cameras

Two cameras: main 13 MP (5 lenses, F2.2 aperture, IR filter), front 5 MP (OV5670, 4 lenses, F2.0 aperture, 69 degree angle). The flash has two colors of light: cold and warm.

Apparently, the Meizu M2 Note has the same main camera module as the one used in the M1 Note. However, it seems to me that the algorithms are not fully “finished”, so the photographs come out a little more cloudy. In addition, M2 cameras often try to extend the frame by increasing the brightness of the image (yes, ISO and shutter speed are the same). Overall, the image becomes brighter, but there is more noise. Otherwise, the cameras are identical: accurate white balance, fast and accurate focus, soft HDR. You can read more in the Meizu M1 Note review.

The front cameras are the same. The difference is that the white balance of the M2 tends to act up.

The gadget shoots video typical of any modern inexpensive smartphone. FullHD resolution (UHD has already appeared in the MX4 and MX4 Pro) at 15 or 30 frames per second depending on the lighting level. What I don't like: sudden changes in picture brightness.

Appearance of the smartphone and screen features

Giving up the touch button was beneficial.

Meizu M2 Note is the second device in the series. Moreover, it so happens that it is somewhat weaker in characteristics than M1. Therefore, they didn’t bother with the design and actually copied the first model, making a number of improvements.

The most noticeable thing: instead of the traditional touch circle “a la the Home button from the iPhone”, a mechanical button was installed in this device. Giving up the sensor was beneficial. The fact is that Meizu assigns several functions to this button (go to “home”, “back” and “lock”). The touch button did not always process commands correctly. With a mechanical key, called mBack, this is almost impossible.

The smartphone is available in four colors: white, blue, pink and gray.

The smartphone is available in four colors: white, blue, pink and gray. The body of the gray device is made of matte plastic, the rest is made of glossy. Accordingly, the gray case does not actively collect fingerprints, and generally looks more solid.

On the left side of the device there is a power button and a volume rocker. On the right is a tray for SIM cards and a micro SD flash card. You can install two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card. Choose whichever is more convenient for you. The reason for this decision is the non-disassembly design and non-removable battery. Many manufacturers follow this path, since this increases the strength of the device, and the overall assembly is of better quality. In principle, there are no creaks or backlashes, despite the fact that the device is budget. The headphone jack is located at the top end, and at the bottom there is a microUSB port for data exchange and charging.

They clearly didn’t skimp on the screen, which is rare for this market segment...

The screen of the Meizu M2 Note deserves a solid “five”. The diagonal is 5.5 inches, Full HD resolution is 1920x1080 pixels. Accordingly, the pixel density is high - 401 ppi, which, by the way, is similar to the iPhone 6 Plus. A very high-quality Sharp matrix is used, which does not have an air gap, has excellent viewing angles and an anti-reflective coating.

The picture on the screen is clear, the high-quality matrix behaves excellently in the sun, even in direct sunlight. It is convenient to operate the device, of course, with a discount for the large screen diagonal. Dragontrail coating is used to protect the screen. This is not Gorilla Glass, but in principle fingerprints are not particularly collected either. They clearly didn't skimp on the screen, which is rare for this market segment.

Hardware platform and performance

LTE modem works with two SIM cards

The basis of the Meizu M2 Note is the MediaTek MT6753 “system on a chip”. This is an eight-core platform that uses Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz. Mali-T720MP3 is used as a graphics accelerator. The LTE modem works with two SIM cards, which is very convenient and is still not implemented in all budget models. Combined with 2 GB of RAM, the performance is enough to run almost all games. True, the most sophisticated graphics characteristics have to be reduced for comfort. This is most likely due to the fact that the MT6753 works optimally with HD resolutions rather than Full HD.

To accommodate user information, the device has 16 or 32 GB of memory, depending on the modification. This is not bad, especially considering that the micro SD card slot can accommodate up to 128 GB of storage.

Operating system and interface

Meizu M2 Note runs under Android control 5.1 Lollipop with the proprietary Flyme 4.5I add-on, which the Chinese manufacturer boldly calls operating system. You can call your proprietary interface whatever you want, as long as it works well.

Meizu has no problems with this. Flyme is based on iOS with its minimalism. Widgets and additional pre-installed programs in a smartphone are the bare minimum; the user is free to customize the device to suit his needs and tastes.

The shell is very well thought out, and everything is done so that you can operate the device with one hand, despite the large diagonal of the screen. In addition, there are built-in themes that allow you to personalize the device to suit your tastes without much effort or search. Another interesting feature of the Android + Flyme combination is that the smartphone already has root access. There is no need to hack or install anything additional.

Cameras

The main camera is equipped with a 13 megapixel matrix. Moreover, a module from Samsung was used, supplemented by Chinese engineers with a dual flash of different colors. The built-in application contains a lot of automatic and manual shooting modes. The user can apply additional special effects and change them at will. manual mode aperture or shutter speed, set your own focusing distance, etc. Even slow motion is present.

The front camera has a 5 megapixel matrix, and a wide-angle one, which is very good for selfie lovers. Both cameras perform their functions well during the day. As soon as lighting conditions get worse, problems begin. But for budget model The results are not the worst.

Battery

The built-in battery has a capacity of 3100 mAh. Good hardware optimization and a not too power-hungry shell means that such a battery is quite enough for a couple of days of active use. With continuous video playback with Full HD resolution and maximum screen brightness, the device operates for 6 hours, which is also a good result for this price category.

The 5.5-inch Meizu M2 Note smartphone is popular due to its good price/quality ratio, but not everyone likes “shovels” with screens of this size. Some users prefer more compact smartphones, which are more convenient for use primarily as a phone. Meizu also has this option: Meizu M2 (or, as it is also called, M2 mini) with a 5-inch screen. The first M1 has not reached us, but the second one can already be bought.

What is this?

Meizu M2 is a 5-inch Android smartphone with a quad-core 64-bit processor, 2 GB of RAM, support for two SIM cards (instead of one of which you can install a memory card of up to 128 GB) and a 13-megapixel main camera (Samsung module) .

Why is he interesting?

The smartphone has few differences from the older model: the screen has been reduced to 5 inches, the resolution has been reduced from FullHD to 1280x720, which is even more justified with such a diagonal, and the processor from the same MediaTek company is slightly more modest. The design is almost identical to the M2 Note, with minor changes affecting only the controls.

What is in the box?

The budget M series (aka Blue Charm) comes in square blue and white boxes. Inside there is a standard set: a smartphone, a USB cable, a power supply, a paper clip for removing the tray and instructions. In the place where the headset could be there is a plug with an inscription that it is not included in the package. Perhaps in some markets it will still be available.

What does it look like?

Externally, the smartphone really looks like a smaller copy of the M2 Note (you can read the review on our website). The body is made of similar plastic, there is different colors. Available in white, blue and gray colors. We came across the last option and it looks very good, more expensive than competitors for the same money. The front panel is identical in layout: under a common protective glass there is a screen, a front camera, a set of sensors and an LED indicator. Above the screen is the earpiece, below it is the mBack button:

LED indicator in Meizu smartphones finally moved to top part front panel along with the abandonment of the round touch button under the screen, which was used in older models:

Multifunction mBack button. A tap goes back one item, a press goes to the home screen, and a long press locks the smartphone. Everything is exactly the same as with the M2 Note:

Matt gray back cover. It has a rough texture, which feels more pleasant than glossy colored options. The logo is still old:

Main camera lens with single LED flash:

Now about the differences. Mechanical buttons and the SIM/MicroSD tray have swapped places. Now the buttons are located on the right side, they are the same as in the larger model:

Headphone jack on the top edge of the smartphone:

Tray on the left side:

Bottom - MicroUSB, microphone and external speaker. It sounds exactly the same as the older model. Quite loud, but the quality suffers at high volumes:

Tray for two nanoSIMs, one of which can be used for a MicroSD memory card:

Thanks to its small size, the smartphone fits perfectly in the hand, as expected, more convenient than the 5.5-inch model. It’s well assembled, as always, there are no complaints, although there’s nothing particularly wobbly: there’s no removable cover on the smartphone. Comparison with M2 Note:

How good is the screen?

The M2 uses a 5-inch IPS screen without an air gap with a resolution of 1280x720, pixel density of 296 ppi and protective glass AGC Dragontrail. It seems to me that with such a diagonal, HD resolution is optimal: the picture is clear, the pixels are difficult to see (I couldn’t see it anyway), and the load is less, which has a better effect on battery life and performance. I wasn’t very pleased with the oleophobic coating: it’s there, but it’s quite Low quality. Fingers glide well, but the screen collects fingerprints very well.The declared maximum brightness is 400 cd/m2. The viewing angles are all good, there is enough brightness outside, although for a full impression it would be nice to evaluate it under the summer sun.

Multi-touch up to 10 touches supported:

When measured with a colorimeter, it turned out that the real brightness is lower than declared, but not dramatically: 358.713 cd/m2, black field brightness is 0.496 cd/m2, and contrast is 723:1. Errors in color rendering are not critical, the usual slight bias towards blue colors, but in this case, rather, the lack of red is not visible to the eye at all. C The air temperature varies between 7500 and 8000K:

The smartphone has standard utility to adjust color temperature.

Comparison with competitors:

Device nameWhite field brightness,
cd/m2
The brightness of the black field,
cd/m2
Contrast
Meizu M2 358.713 0.496 723:1
Meizu M2 Note 441.386 0.659 670:1
Lenovo Vibe Z2 425.699 0.574 742:1
Xiaomi Mi4 423.5 0.64 662:1
HTC Desire Eye 527.337 0.483 1092:1

How's the performance going?

Things are interesting with performance: instead of the eight-core MediaTek MT6753 with ARM Cortex-A53 cores and graphics Mali T720 MP3, 450MHz installed quad-core MT6735 (same Cortex-A53), but with more quick option Mali T720 MP2 at 600 MHz. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, dual-channel LPDDR3 is used. The FlymeOS shell provides a choice of system operating modes: Energy Saving, Balanced and Productive. Exactly the same as its predecessor:

In fact, the situation is as follows: the shell and applications are flying, there is nothing new in this issue, everything is fine, as it was. In benchmarks, the results are more modest, but the games run better. It seems that the lower resolution and higher frequency of the graphics accelerator had an effect. Mortal Kombat X on the Unreal Engine with impressive appetites works better than on the M2 Note, although in general the smartphone cannot completely get rid of the brakes in demanding games:

The smartphone does not heat up much even under prolonged use. The smartphone has 16 GB of internal memory; instead of one of the SIM cards, you can insert a MicroSD of up to 128 GB. The GPS module works without problems, cold start - about 30 seconds:

The battery capacity is 2500 mAh. There are no revelations in terms of autonomy: about 6 hours of video playback, just under three hours of games. In normal mode with conversations for about half an hour a day, the Internet (Wi-Fi or 3G) for about 4 hours and about an hour of games, the smartphone lasts a little more than a day. If you don’t play, then 1.5 days is not a problem.

As already written above, the external speaker screams quite loudly, but the quality is not the best: the situation is similar to the M2 Note. The same can be said about the sound in the headphones: the power is enough for most simple earplugs up to 1000 UAH, just like the quality. Which will be quite enough for the average listener.

For those who want to know more

Meizu M2 has MediaTek MT6735 installed: 64-bit, four cores ARM Cortex-A53 with clock frequency 1.3 GHz and graphics accelerator Mali T720 MP2, 600MHz, RAM:2 GBLPDDR3. The smartphone, as expected, produces fewer parrots in synthetic tests than the M2 Note, but for its price category everything is very good: one of the close competitors Xiaomi Redmi 2 scores about 20,000 in AnTuTu, while the Meizu M2 is close to 27,000. Benchmark results:

Is the interface user-friendly?

Meizu M2 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Flyme OS version 4.5.3I. We have already seen all this more than once and it is absolutely no different from the M2 Note (you can go into more detail in the review

How are things going with the camera?

The main camera is the same as in the M2 Note, but with a single LED flash: 13-megapixel matrix with Samsung back-illumination, 5-element optics and f/2.2 aperture. Again, the interface does not change, you have to wait for Flyme 5:

As far as I can judge from the point of view of a person who is not too keen on digital photography, the photos in good lighting turn out to be quite sensible, but in the dark everything becomes much sadder. As you know, Meizu suffers from not entirely adequate processing algorithms:

Bottom line

We sell Meizu M2 for 3,300 UAH, and after looking at other offers in the same price range, it becomes clear that there are no obvious competitors at the moment. A-brand models are clearly inferior both in terms of screens and internals; the closest ones are Meizu’s compatriots: the same Xiaomi Redmi 2, which in the version with 2 GB of RAM will cost more. So those who are looking for a convenient smartphone with a relatively small (by today’s standards) screen diagonal for reasonable money should definitely consider the Meizu M2 as a candidate for purchase.

4 reasons to buy Meizu M2:

  • Good screen;
  • convenient, monolithic body;
  • Supports 2xSIM and memory cards;
  • price-quality ratio.

1 reason not to buy Meizu M2:

Meizu m1 Note was quite a pleasant and at the same time relatively inexpensive smartphone. The company's management, apparently, decided that they needed to try to make it an even more accessible competitor, which would still be just as pleasant to use. The result of these attempts was the m2 Note, which differs from its predecessor not only in the number in the name.

Today we bring to your attention Meizu review m2 Note. How did this budget employee turn out?

The phone comes in a rather attractive white cardboard box with blue trim, on the front side of which there is a three-dimensional inscription with the name of the model. Opening the box we find:

  • device;
  • a paper clip for the SIM tray hole;
  • standard micro cable USB;
  • white 1 Amp power adapter;
  • an empty box for headphones, which, unfortunately, are not included in the package;
  • brief user manual and other useful documentation.

Design

The Meizu m2 note case is available in several colors:

  • white;
  • blue;
  • pink;
  • grey.

The first three have a glossy and very easily soiled surface, and only gray is made matte. But despite this, it tends to slip out of your hands during use.

The appearance of the gadget has received many minor changes compared to its predecessor. For example, a gray modification appeared, the body of which is painted, we talked about it a little higher.

Now let's go through the elements of the body. There is a conversational microphone on the bottom panel, micro USB and a single speaker. On the top edge there is a noise-canceling microphone and a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. The sound is clean and detailed, pleasant and clear, which means you can get anything out of it if you want. The speaker is not particularly loud, and good quality he cannot boast.

On the right side there is a SIM card tray. A standard scheme is used, thanks to which you can install either 2 Nano-SIM or 1 Nano-SIM and a memory card. You can use micro SD up to 128 GB, which will be more than enough for anyone. Job dual SIM typical for a device with one radio module. Both cards always catch the network, except when you speak on one of them. There are no complaints about signal reception and voice transmission. Telephone functionality in the M2 Note is implemented quite well.

On the left side there is a volume rocker and an on/off button.

On the front side of the smartphone there is:

  • Speaker.
  • Front-camera.
  • Light/proximity sensor.
  • Indicator of missed events.
  • Mechanical touch button that responds to touch and is pressed. In the first case, the “Back” transition is performed, and in the second case, the user exits to the “Desktop” or goes to the home screen.

At the back is:

  • the camera is recessed into the body, which is a definite plus;
  • double flash of warm and cold glow.

The technical characteristics of the Meizu m2 note dimensions are as follows: height - 150.9 mm, width - 75.2 mm, thickness - 8.7 mm and weight - 149 g.

In general, the design was and remains simple but pleasant. On the one hand, there are no extremely interesting details in it, but, on the other hand, there is nothing bad to say. The workmanship is generally excellent. Fitting and assembly of the device is 5+. The only thing is that the plastic cover of the card tray is a little loose, but that’s the only thing I can complain about.

Ergonomics

But if you look at the Meiza M2 Note, from the point of view of ergonomics, then this gadget is not the best in the world.

Using it with one hand is terribly difficult, but you can do it if you want.

Thanks to the narrow frames around the screen, the device is not as huge as it could be. So it’s quite possible to write a short message on the go, and this is already a good indicator.

Also, compared to its predecessor in terms of ergonomics, there are two good news:

  1. The power button is now on the side instead of the top, which is good.
  2. You can unlock and put the device to sleep using a mechanical key. And as we know, the mechanics work much more stable than various gestures.

Display

The screen of the Meizu M2 laptop is no longer protected by 3rd generation Gorilla Glass, but by AGC Dragontrail/NEG T2X-1 with an oleophobic coating. The finger glides over it perfectly.

The display has a diagonal of 5.5 inches with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is equipped with an IPS sensor matrix manufactured by Sharp/AUO, made using IGZO technology. Pixel density - 403 ppi. The graininess is simply impossible to notice. Up to 10 simultaneous clicks are supported.

The screen has good color reproduction. Viewing angles are maximum with fairly deep blacks and no shift to yellow or purple hues at extreme tilts.

Everything looks very smooth and pleasing to the eye.

The brightness adjustment ranges are very wide, meaning there will be no problems with this display either in the dark or in bright sun.

But the disadvantages Meizu screen m2 note turned out to be much more implicit than most competitors. The display backlight is a little uneven. For example, there is a light stripe on the bottom edge. However, if you use the phone and don’t look at the screen point-blank, looking for the shortcomings of the matrix, then you won’t have to complain about life, because according to the main parameters of quality assessment, it is really good.

Technical characteristics and autonomy

IN new version installed a simpler filling compared to its predecessor:

  • Eight-core processor, 64-bit architecture, Cortex A-53 with a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz, based on the Mediatek MT6753 platform.
  • The Mali T720 MP3 video accelerator helps with video.
  • RAM – 2 GB
  • Memory for data storage - 16 or 32 GB to choose from. It can be further expanded using microSD cards up to 128 GB if you sacrifice one SIM card.

This hardware works well, as for a budget employee, but in general the performance is far from great and synthetics are clear proof of this. Demanding games run well here, but at lower settings. There are no problems at all with less resource-intensive tasks - all applications fly.

operating room Android system 5.1 running Flyme OS version 4.5i. It also works great without any noticeable lags or delays. While walking through synthetic tests or after half an hour of playing, the M2 Note becomes noticeably warm in the camera area, which only causes discomfort if someone suddenly calls you.

Unfortunately, NFC chip is missing, so for contactless payment this device won't do.

During use, a number of shortcomings emerged:

  1. If the phone is turned off for a long time, then trying to wake it up with a double tap does not always work.
  2. It is not always possible to use information from the clipboard.
  3. Some programs do not provide notifications.

This model has a battery capacity of 3100 mAh. The phone can last for 19-20 hours using 4G and Wi-Fi. If you switch to 3G, you get about 25 hours.

If you use the M2 Note under medium load, the charge will last for 2.5 days.

Camera

Meizu m2 Note has 2 camera modules installed:

  • Main - 13 MP, 5 lenses, f/2.2, blue filter, video recording in 1080 p (Full HD) and slow motion.
  • Front - 5 MP without autofocus, OVS670 sensor, 70 degree viewing angle, 4 lenses, f/2.0, real-time effects application

The flash has two glows - warm and cold.

The main camera allows you to take pretty good pictures. Even in less-than-ideal shooting conditions, the photos turn out beautiful and artistic. And when too large quantities Overexposure in the frame will be saved by HDR. Overall, the camera, although not up to par with flagships, is quite pleasant to use. Unless the exposure metering is constantly blurry. For achievement High Quality We recommend setting the exposure metering point manually.

The video quality, in general, is completely similar to the photo and is quite high in itself. A special mode is provided for recording slow motion videos, but the output content is of questionable quality, so you should not abuse Slow Motion videos.

Results

Compared to its predecessor Meizu m2 Note received:

  1. Less ergonomic design. Because of this, holding it in your hands is not so pleasant. The gadget is heavier and is perceived as thicker.
  2. The touch button is less convenient and does not work as accurately.
  3. The battery lasts less.
  4. The camera takes worse pictures.
  5. Slower graphics system.
  6. Less bright screen. Worse color rendering. Smaller viewing angles.

It seems that in fact the smartphone should have been made better, but it didn’t turn out as good as we would have liked.
