What is backup on iPhone 7. iPhone backup

Losing or breaking a smartphone is a problem associated not only with inevitable financial expenses, but also with the loss of a large amount of personal data. It is impossible to restore everything accumulated after the fact: the only way resolution of such a situation is its anticipation.

The two most common ways to backup an iPhone are by using special iTunes features and iCloud. Each of them has its own disadvantages and advantages.

What is not included in the saved data

  • What's Not Included in iTunes. If you lose your phone, you will lose music from iTunes Store, applications from Apple Store, as well as music, videos and books downloaded using iTunes (if you don’t check one important box, see below). You will also have to say goodbye to touch settings ID, settings Apple Pay and data from the “Activity”, “Health” and “Keychain” programs.
  • What's not included in iCloud. Data previously stored in the cloud, such as contacts, notes, calendars and information, will be lost. Also, as in the case above, you will have to say goodbye to the ID settings. All data not downloaded from the iTunes Store, Apple Store or IBooks Store will be lost.

However, in both cases, the basic data will be saved, and it is up to you to judge the best option.

Description of systems: features

  • Maximum storage capacity (if purchased) paid subscription) is 2 TB. Most users get along just fine tariff plan for $1 (50 GB).
  • Mandatory encryption is performed to increase security.
  • To create and use backups, you only need access to a Wi-Fi network.
  • To restore data, you do not need to connect to a computer.
  • Saving in progress backup iPhone to computer(for some this is a plus, for others it is a minus).
  • You can enable the encryption feature (optional).
  • There is no need to pay for additional data (free space on your hard drive is used).

Backup iPhone to iCloud

In the future, backups will be created automatically when the phone is charging and wi-fi is connected.

Restore from iCloud backup

To restore data on a new device, you just need to enter your Apple ID and password, after which the last backup saved in the cloud will valiantly migrate to your iPhone. If the device is already configured, you will need to erase all contents - this is the first and mandatory step. After this, follow the instructions that appear (for more details, see the article “”) for setting up until the “Programs and Data” screen appears; there you need to select “Recover from iCloud copy”. Sign in and select the appropriate backup (note the date and size).

Perhaps during the copying process a window will appear asking you to install the latest iOS - complete it. Next, you need to log into your Apple ID account, which will allow you to restore all purchased programs and materials. The duration of the procedure varies widely: recovery takes from five minutes to several hours.

Backup iPhone to iTunes

  1. Connect mobile device to your computer, then open iTunes program and select your device.
  2. Next, on the tab review, activate the checkbox this computer.
    Then, to create a backup, click create a copy now.
    If you want to save your information from the Health, Activity programs, then select the “encrypt backup” option.
  3. And one more important point, to save all purchases (music, movies, applications, games), click file>devices>move purchases from iPhone.
    Once the copying is complete, you can see the result of the process in the Browse screen in iTunes.

Data recovery via iTunes

Please note the dating and size of the copies. Click "Restore" and wait for the data recovery procedure to complete.

Helpful information

  • In iCloud, you can partially create the saved data yourself; for example, if necessary, you can disable copying of programs that are not particularly important to you (go to the settings of your Apple account ID, select iCloud and in the list of programs that use iCloud, disable unnecessary ones.)
  • If your iPhone is connected to power and to a Wi-Fi network, and its screen is locked, backups to iTunes are created automatically (if the item is enabled in the settings).
  • If iTunes doesn't see your device, make sure you have the latest version of the software installed on your computer; in critical cases, try disconnecting all USB accessories other than the device.

A few words about alternative options and conclusion

The above methods, based on iTunes and iCloud services, are not the only options for copying information. There are a lot of programs focused on similar activities, but in fact they are in no way superior to the above options. That is why it seems quite natural to “discard” them: we did not analyze such utilities in detail.

In order to ensure the maximum level of reliability, it is recommended to create copies in both iCloud and iTunes - then you can be sure that the information will be saved.

Good luck!

Users Apple products Sometimes they face such a problem as losing personal data from their devices. It occurs either due to improper use or due to some other reasons. The question is not too fundamental. This is why users should know to keep their data safe. Carrying out the manipulation is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

What is a backup

Back in 2007, such a function appeared. Along with the exit first iPhone. Before you create a backup copy of your iPhone, it’s worth understanding what it is. First of all, this is a way to keep your personal data intact, regardless of whether the Apple device. That is, even if the smartphone is lost or broken, the data from it remains in the company’s system and can be retrieved later without any problems.

Possible options

There are only a few ways to back up an iPhone. And the easiest thing is to simply synchronize the device with a personal computer when connecting one to the other. This is done through official program, which is called iTunes. Everyone should install it on their computer. iPhone owner, since without it the functionality of the device can be very limited.

Using "tuna"

This is what advanced users of Apple products call the program. So how do you back up your iPhone to iTunes? First you need to download the latest version of the program from Personal Computer. After this, you need to connect your gadget using a cable to the appropriate connector. After launching the program, you must agree to allow access for this particular computer to the device. It is noteworthy that starting from iTunes version 10.0.1, the request is displayed automatically. If you do not give access, the program simply will not work. Next, the backup will begin automatically; nothing is required from the user. Synchronization takes quite a lot for a long time, especially if the gadget’s memory contains a large number of files, applications and other important personal data.

Outdated versions and devices

Unfortunately, not every Apple smartphone starts automatic copying. Therefore, it is worth knowing other ways to create a backup copy of your iPhone on your computer. The process does not cause any difficulties, but you will have to press several times more buttons than in the method described above.

iPhone 5 and 5s

Of course, these versions are not the most outdated, but they are this moment the most popular. Therefore, before creating a backup copy of your iPhone 5, you need to turn on iTunes and connect the gadget. Then, in the menu of your device (it is displayed in the sidebar), select the “Browse” sub-item. This is where you can set the synchronization conditions. All manipulations are performed in the "Backups" section. For example, you can choose where this copy will be stored: on your computer or in iCloud cloud storage. The latter option is preferable because it gives the owner access to data from any device if he correctly enters his login and password for the account. Having selected a storage location, you only need to press the “Create a copy now” button. After this, the synchronization process will start. Additionally, you can encrypt your data by setting a password. This is usually required in cases where the necessary files are really very important and valuable. And, of course, you should remember this password in order to have access to the data.

Before you create a backup copy of your iPhone 5S or any other, you should set the parameters. That is, choose exactly what data will be synchronized. By default, the following data is saved:

  • notes;
  • contacts;
  • passwords;
  • bookmarks in the Safari browser;
  • all messages;
  • network settings for network access;
  • account in the game center;
  • photos;
  • accounts in applications that are built in by default;
  • calendar events;
  • alarm;
  • wallpaper;
  • purchases.

And here installed applications, unfortunately, are not included in this list. Therefore, it is advisable to synchronize them separately. This is quite simple to do: you just need to transfer your purchases. In the "File" item there is a "Devices" podcast. In it, just select the “Transfer purchases from iPhone” button. After this, synchronization will start, which will take quite a long time if there are a large number of applications. Now, even if the device is lost, the data can always be recovered from hard drive computer.

iCloud

There is another quick and easy way to back up your iPhone. In this case, a computer is no longer required. You can carry out all manipulations directly from your phone. You need to go to the device settings by selecting iCloud. In the section there is a category "Backups". You need to change the gray indicator in the "Copy to iCloud" column so that it turns green. Next you need to press the bottom key. It's called "Copy Now". That's it, after this the transfer of important data to the Apple server will begin. It is noteworthy that they can be viewed by company employees if the government requires them to do so if there are arguments. However, this happens extremely rarely. The last copy and more precisely the time its creation is always displayed on the device in the iCloud panel. By periodically syncing, you can save all your important data in case your phone breaks, gets lost, or is stolen.

Many users don’t even think about it, and simply rebuild their device, and then rack their brains and wonder – where did all the contacts, messages, settings, applications go? Fortunately, in the latest iTunes, number 11, this process is automated, and you don’t need to think about it. But what if you just don’t like the design of the new combine and want to stay on your old favorite iTunes? In this case, you will have to make a backup copy manually. You can also hide everything in iCloud. So, let's try to figure out the possible backup options...

Let's start with the fact that there are two ways to save an iPhone backup.

1) On a computer with using iTunes
2) In the cloud, on Apple servers via iCloud.

What is more convenient, everyone chooses for themselves. Simultaneously: both in iTunes and in iCloud backup A copy of the iPhone cannot be stored!

In old iTunes

This is done quite simply, you just need to follow these steps:

1) connect your device to your computer
2) select your device on the left in the partition selection column
3) in the device window that opens, scroll to “Backup”
4) Select the copying path: either it will be iCloud or a classic copy on your computer
5) wait for the backup process to complete

In the new iTunes

In the new iTunes version 11 (if you have it installed and you turned off auto-backup and forgot to do the last one), you only need to:

1) connect the device to the computer
2) select the device at the top right by its name
3) click on the Backup button

Where is iPhone backup stored on computer:

This location depends on the operating system installed on your computer:

Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\.

Vista or Windows 7: Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\.

Mac OS: \Users\Username\Libraries\Application Support\MobileSync\Backup.

Backup to iCloud

You can enable iCloud backup in iTunes or even on the iPhone itself. Open “Settings” – “iCloud” on your phone and turn on “Copy to iCloud”.

From now on, backups to the Apple server will occur every day without your participation.

But for this you need:
1) Connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
2) iPhone connection to the power source.
3) Screen lock.

You can manually create a backup copy yourself. To do this, connect your iPhone to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Open “Settings” – “iCloud” – “Storage & Backups”. Select “Create a copy”.

How to restore an iPhone backup

In old iTunes.
In the right sidebar, select your iPhone. Click the right mouse button on this item.
In the menu that appears, select “Restore from backup”. Specify the desired iPhone backup. Click “Restore”.

In the new iTunes.
In the lower right corner, click the device button. Go to the Review tab. Click “Restore from copy”.

Transfer data from iPhone

But this was only one of the options.

Option number two is a situation where you can’t make a backup through iTunes, but you need to do it.

Attention - for the method described below you will need installed jailbreak on your device. This method is not exactly a method, but only an opportunity to save the remains of Pompeii under various force majeure circumstances.
So, if iTunes does not want or cannot perform a backup, but it is very necessary, then the following will help to get out of the situation to some extent:

1. Contacts – var/mobile/Library/AddressBook. (backup copy iPhone contacts. There are two files in the folder, save both.)
2. SMS – var/mobile/Library/SMS.
3. Mail – var/mobile/Library/Mail.
4. Notes – /var/mobile/Library/Notes/.
5. Programs from the App Store must be in iTunes; if not, right-click in iTunes on your iPhone, then “Transfer purchases.”
6. Programs from Cydia will have to be reinstalled. You can save a list of them using AptBackup by installing the corresponding application from Cydia.
7. Photos are located in var/mobile/Media/DCIM.
8. Music must be in iTunes, if not, copy using file manager(and just don’t try to copy it back to them later, it will ruin your media library on your phone and you’ll only have to restore it complete update libraries).
9. Ringtones must be in iTunes, if not, copy them using the file manager for iPhone (don’t even try to copy them back later, it will ruin your media library on your phone!)
10. Calendar – /var/mobile/Library/Calendar.
11. Bookmarks, history – /var/mobile/Library/Safari.
12. Bookmarks from Safari in the form of icons on the desktop /var/mobile/Library/WebClips.

On all folders from the Library transferred manually, it is necessary to check the rights (0700 Owner – mobile, Group – mobile), and on the files themselves that are inside (0644 Owner – mobile, Group – mobile). If the rights are set correctly, then the contacts will be saved normally and there will be no crashes.

Now, having learned how and where to make a Backup, you will no longer be afraid of losing data when you change your phone, or in a situation where you made a mistake when speeding up iOS or improving the iPhone battery.
