How to change halogen light bulbs. Replacing halogen lamps with G4 base with LED

With the advent of cheap LED light bulbs on the market, the question of replacing them arises more and more often. To replace, you must first know the type of base. The figure below shows examples of LED type: E-27, E-14, GU-10, GU-5.3, G-9, G-4, GX53.

When replacing a light bulb, you need to pay attention to what type of lamp was installed in the spotlight. There are several types of spotlights:

  • LED lamp MR-16 is used in luminaires DL-11;
  • LED lamp minion E-14, used in recessed spotlights of the R-63 brand;
  • GX-53 closed type lamps.

Let's look at examples of how to change an LED light bulb in spotlights.

Always turn off the mains power before replacing!

Replacing a GU5.3 or GU10 LED Bulb

Such a base is often secured with a retaining ring. They are secured in the socket with two conductive pins until they click (GU5.3) or by turning 90 degrees (GU10). Replacing them is quite simple using the following instructions.

  1. Turn off the network power;
  2. Before replacing, check the power of the lamp being replaced. It must correspond to the burnt-out power. If you install a more powerful lamp, you can damage the controller or transformer, if installed. When installed, they are calculated for a certain power indicator of the connected load;
  3. remove the retaining ring, which is located along the diameter of the body. Pull it gently and the light bulb will easily come out of the spotlight. If the ring has two tendrils sticking out inward, just squeeze them;
  4. remove the light bulb from the socket, holding the base with your other hand, install a new one;
  5. return the retaining ring to the groove.

Replacing E-14 and E-27 lamps

For this type, replacement is even easier. You need to unscrew the old light bulb counterclockwise and screw in the new one clockwise, while de-energizing the room in advance. It is necessary to screw in all the way, without applying any effort.

Pay attention to the base. E-27 is a well-known standard, the diameter is the same as that of a regular incandescent light bulb. E-14 – base with a smaller diameter. If in doubt, take the burned out light bulb with you when purchasing.

Closed type GX53

They are often called a pill. These are some of the easiest lamps to operate and replace. The easiest way to change them is:

  1. Turn off the network power;
  2. We take hold of the lamp and turn it counterclockwise until it stops. The rotation angle is no more than 10-20 degrees and it will freely fall out of the grooves;
  3. insert a new tablet into the grooves and turn clockwise until it stops. Ready.

These miniature light bulbs are similar in design, they differ in size, but their installation principle is the same. Due to their low weight, they are attached only to the socket with the base. Additional fastenings are usually not provided. Let's look at how to replace such a light bulb in a spotlight.

  1. De-energize the lamp by turning off the mains power;
  2. if there is a decorative light diffuser, remove it;
  3. We take the body of the light bulb and pull it out with a slight force;
  4. install a new one by inserting the pins into the socket. If you have a halogen, when installing, handle it only with gloves or a cloth.

Replacing light in furniture lighting

Any spotlights on furniture and kitchen equipment are replaced in 99% of cases using one of the above methods. The whole difficulty of replacement lies in dismantling the decorative lamp diffuser.

Strict requirements for the appearance of the lamp force designers to hide the fastenings as much as possible and you need to use your imagination to understand how to remove this or that lamp.

Precautionary measures

  • When replacing, always turn off the mains power;
  • Before replacing, try to wait until the lamp has completely cooled down (read:);
  • Twist light bulbs in glass housings with extreme care. Over time, under the influence of temperature changes, the material loses its strength. Take special care of your eyes;
  • If there is insufficient contact between the conductor and the socket, under the influence of high temperatures, the light bulb body may “stick” to the base. In this case, it is better to disconnect the cartridge itself from the wiring and continue dismantling below.

One of the most common problems with room lighting is a burnt out lamp. Considering the different options for overhead lighting, the question of how to change a light bulb in a ceiling chandelier does not seem easy.

The non-working state of one of several light bulbs is not a reason to immediately take on a shift. It is more convenient and safer to remove the lamp in natural daylight if possible. And if you have to disassemble the illuminator at night, you need a flashlight. Tools you may need are pliers, a screwdriver, and it’s a good idea to wear cotton or rubberized gloves.

The electricity supply should be turned off at the work site. You can turn off the machine or use the key switch.

A new light element - preferably completely similar to the burnt one - should be on hand to screw it in without delay.

Note

The possibility of marriage should never be ruled out. Therefore, when you turn on the light for the first time, it is better not to stand under a chandelier or lamp, and even more so, not to immediately raise your head up. It is better to exclude the possibility of injury if the new lamp does break.

Installing an incandescent lamp

Incandescent lamp general purpose 230 V, 60 W, 720 lm, E27 base

Before changing the light bulb, it is advisable to remove the lampshade and frame. After this, holding the socket with one hand, unscrew the lighting element in a counterclockwise direction.

If the bulb is cracked, it should first be wrapped in cloth and then removed from the cartridge. Lower your head down so as not to hurt your eyes, put on glasses. If the glass explodes, the remains are also removed using a soft cloth, rags, and only pliers will help to unscrew the base.

It also happens that after unscrewing, the glass remains in the hand, and the base remains in the socket. Then you can't do without pliers.

Now you can make a replacement. The new lamp is screwed in clockwise until the end. There is no point in trying to screw it in harder: it will only damage the flask.

Installing an energy-saving light bulb

An energy saving lamp consists of 3 main components: a base, fluorescent lamp and electronic unit.

An energy-saving lamp differs from an incandescent lamp in structure - the bulb is replaced by a fluorescent tube. It is easier to change a burnt-out energy-saving element - there is a choke located next to the screw-in base, so it can be changed simply by pulling it out.

Changing light bulbs in a suspended ceiling

In a room with a suspended ceiling, the role of a light source can be played by both chandeliers and recessed lamps that are directly mounted on the base.

Before changing a lamp - LED, halogen or fluorescent - you need to choose one that is suitable in terms of power and installation for a particular spotlight. And for this you need a packaging box or a burnt-out lamp itself.

How to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling? Since the body of the built-in light source is secured by spacers with two springs, it is quite possible to pull it down a little, carefully holding the lamp on both sides. You need to pull it out of the frame to a length sufficient to unscrew the screw base. When the work lamp is screwed in, the lamp returns to its place in this way: the springs are pressed against the base, inserted back, then the housing itself is inserted into the hole in the tension structure.

Spotlights and chandeliers are attached to the ceiling itself, and the hanging canvas forms only a cell. However, the recessed lights themselves differ slightly in design from chandeliers. And first of all, this concerns the base. The fact is that the thread of the cartridges for built-in illuminators is not the same in size. In addition, there are pin sockets. Therefore, the method of replacing a light bulb from a spotlight also depends on the type of mounting.

Types of fastening in lamps

So, there are three types of fastening: standard with thread, pin and rotary .

With standard mounting - in a threaded socket - changing a chandelier on a suspended structure is similar to replacing a lamp on a non-suspended, base ceiling.

The pin type has a different extraction mechanism - it has a ring for a stopper. Such a base - usually two-pin - is found in halogen ones.

How to change a halogen light bulb? To remove a halogen lamp, the ring is squeezed and pulled out - the lamp will remain hanging on the wires. All that remains is to disconnect it from the terminal, pull it out forcefully, then insert a new one - there should be a characteristic click - and secure it with a locking ring.

Halogen lamps with a two-pin base are installed with cotton gloves, otherwise the bulb may explode. In addition, fingerprints that are difficult to erase may remain on the flask. But when working with such a lamp, you do not need to remove the lamp from the frame.

There is another type of cartridge - special - this is what fluorescent and LED illuminators most often have. This type of fastening contains both a fixing ring, which is removed first, and a thread. After the ring, the glass part is removed - and the burnt-out part can be removed. This mount is called a rotary mount, because to fix the lamp, it must be rotated 90º.

Replacing a light bulb usually does not present much difficulty even for non-specialists. But not everyone knows how to change a light bulb if it is installed in a hood, spotlight, microwave or refrigerator. And replacing a burnt-out light bulb in a regular lamp requires compliance with certain rules.

How to correctly replace a light bulb in a lamp, chandelier or lampshade

If a light bulb in your home lighting fixtures has burned out and needs to be replaced, then first of all you should purchase a new one. It is necessary to install a lamp of the same power and the same type.

The following type of light source can be used for lighting:

  1. Incandescent lamp.
  2. Energy saving or fluorescent lamp.
  3. Halogen.
  4. LED.

The light bulbs installed in the luminaires have maximum power limitations. Usually it is 40 W. This value cannot be exceeded, since the sockets and wiring in the lamp may fail.

Having found out what type and power the burnt light source in the chandelier or lampshade is, you need to clarify the type of base, after which you can purchase a new light bulb. If difficulties arise in determining the parameters of a burnt-out light bulb, you can simply dismantle it and take it with you to the store as a sample.

  • De-energize the device. To do this, you need to turn off the machine on the dashboard or unscrew the plugs. If it is a table or wall lamp, just remove the plug from the socket.
  • To change a light bulb in a chandelier or ceiling light, you will need a stable stepladder or chair.
  • Remove the light bulb and install a new one in its place.

If the bulb appears to have burst or crumbled when unscrewed, the remaining part of the incandescent lamp can be unscrewed from the socket by grasping the edge of the base with pliers or pliers.

When replacing an incandescent lamp in a chandelier hanging overhead, do not look at it. This will protect your eyes from splinters if the bulb bursts. To avoid accidentally cutting your hands, you need to wear gloves or wrap the lamp in a napkin.

If an energy-saving light bulb is installed in the lampshade, then it must be unscrewed, holding it by the base, and not by the fragile glass tubes, which can easily break. Inside these light sources there are vapors of mercury compounds that are very harmful to health.

When replacing halogen lamps, they should not be handled with bare hands. Fatty fingerprints will cause local overheating of the flask and its destruction. Therefore, before working, be sure to wear gloves.

Waterproof lamps are usually installed in the bathroom. When dismantling the lampshade, care should be taken not to damage the insulating elements. It is necessary to provide a place where the removed lampshade and tools can be placed during work. After replacing the burnt-out light bulb, the lampshade is installed in place so that vapors and moisture cannot get inside the device.

How to replace a light bulb in a suspended or suspended ceiling

How to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling if it is equipped with spotlights? Replacing the light source in them requires care and certain skills. This is especially important when working with tools, if the lamp needs to be replaced in a suspended ceiling. One awkward movement can damage the stretched fabric. To replace a burnt out lamp:

  • Turn off electricity in the room.
  • Remove the fixing ring from the lamp that holds the lamp in the shade and place it so that it is at hand.
  • Carefully disconnect the burnt out lamp. Depending on the base model, it can be screwed into the socket, fixed with side pins (rotated 90 degrees) or have pin contacts.
  • If you did not know before which model of lamp is used in the lamps, then you need to take the burnt-out light source with you to the store as a sample and buy the same new one.
  • Install the new light bulb into the socket, place it in the socket and secure with the ring.

Since halogen light sources are usually installed in spotlights, you need to wear gloves to avoid leaving sweat marks on the lamps.

How to replace a light bulb in a kitchen hood

If the backlight in the kitchen hood stops working, but the fan turns on normally, then most likely the lamp has burned out. It's easy to replace it yourself. First of all, you need to completely de-energize the hood by unplugging the plug from the socket. Depending on the model, access to the lamp can be achieved by removing the air intake grille or opening a special lamp on the body.

You cannot install a light bulb of a different marking and power in the hood, as it may damage the wiring or simply will not work.

How to replace a light bulb in a refrigerator

If the light in the refrigerator has disappeared and the engine is working properly, then most likely the lamp has burned out. Knowing how to replace a burnt out light bulb, you can do it yourself without contacting a repair service. The lamps can be located in the refrigerator in different places - on the side or back wall, in the upper part or in the middle of the chamber. But, in any case, access to them is provided. Before starting work, you must turn off the refrigerator and remove the plug from the socket.

The easiest way to change the lamp is in the Veko refrigerator. A 15 W light bulb with an E14 base is screwed into a socket located next to the switch. You just need to unscrew the faulty light source and install a new one in its place.

It is not much more difficult to replace the light source in the Biryusa refrigerator. To replace a burnt out lamp in a Biryusa refrigerator you need to:

  1. Disconnect it from the network.
  2. Open the refrigerator door.
  3. Most modifications of Biryusa refrigeration cabinets have a box with a cooling regulator on the right side wall. A lampshade with a lamp is attached to it on the back side. The lampshade should be gently squeezed from the sides (to release the latches) and removed.
  4. Unscrew the burnt out light bulb and install a new one in its place.
  5. Replace the lampshade.

Some models of Biryusa refrigerators use LED block(“Biryusa-10”). To dismantle it, you need to remove the cover from the block, unscrew two self-tapping screws, remove the block together with the lampshade, and disconnect the contacts. Installing a new light source in the Biryusa-10 refrigerator is done in the reverse order.

In Samsung refrigerators, the lamp cover is removed differently for different models. So, for Samsung RL series (38**, 41**,44**), it is attached with latches, and to remove it, you just need to press on the sides and pull it towards you.

In other modifications of Samsung, the cover is fixed with a screw that must be unscrewed. If there is a protective housing under the lampshade, then you need to unscrew the fastening screws and remove it. Disconnect the wires. If there is protective tape, it must also be removed. After this, a new one is installed instead of the faulty light bulb.

Changing the light source in an Indesit refrigerator is not very difficult, but care must be taken. The fact is that in most Indesit models the lampshade is not completely removed, but part of it is bent, opening access to the light source. To gain access to the lamp, you need to unscrew the fixing screw and bend the desired half (according to the instructions). A burnt-out light bulb in Ariston refrigerators is replaced in the same way. But on some modifications (for example, Indesit C138G), the lampshade is removable and secured with latches. To dismantle it, you need to press on the top and bottom walls.

Atlant refrigerators also use an incandescent lamp for lighting. To properly dismantle the lampshade, the manufacturers put an arrow on the wall next to it. Replacing the light source in all Atlant modifications is carried out as follows:

  1. Turn off the power to the refrigerator by unplugging the plug from the socket.
  2. Unscrew the screw that fixes the lamp.
  3. Without applying much force, move the lampshade in the direction indicated by the arrow on the inner wall of the Atlant refrigerator.
  4. Replace the burnt out lamp.
  5. Reinstall the lampshade.

In Atlant refrigerated cabinets, you can replace the incandescent lamp with a more durable one - LED. For comfortable lighting of the refrigeration chamber, such a light source will have a power of 3-5 W. In addition, LED bulbs practically do not heat up.

You can use LED light sources to illuminate cameras not only in Atlant refrigerators, but also in devices from other manufacturers, if they are equipped with incandescent lamps operating from a 220 V network.

Halogen or energy-saving light bulbs are not used for illumination in refrigerated cabinets.

How to replace a light bulb in a microwave oven

Most modern microwave ovens equipped with lighting. If the light bulb in the microwave burns out, this will not affect its performance, but it is still more convenient to use it when the lighting is working. Not everyone knows how to replace a light bulb in this kitchen appliance without resorting to the help of specialists. To do the job you will need a Phillips screwdriver and a little skill. The operating procedure is as follows:

  • Disconnect the appliance completely by unplugging the plug from the socket.
  • Carefully examine your “helper”. It is necessary to find and unscrew the screws that secure the housing cover (usually it is U-shaped and covers the sides and top of the device). Fastenings can be located on the back or sides (less often - on the front or bottom).
  • Carefully remove the cover. Usually it needs to be moved back a little and then raised up.
  • Determine the location of the light bulb. In some models it is placed in a special box secured with a screw. Inside there is a socket with a light source that needs to be replaced. In other models, the socket itself is inserted into a special hole along with the lamp, and secured on the outside with one or two self-tapping screws. By removing the socket, you can easily replace the faulty light bulb.
  • Replace the socket or lamp box and secure it correctly.
  • Close the housing cover and secure with screws.
  • Connect to the mains and check how the lighting in the microwave works.

It is better to purchase a light bulb after dismantling the burnt one, using its sample, since it is difficult to determine in any other way which light source is installed in the microwave.

Replacing an oven light bulb

You can change the backlight lamp in the oven yourself even during the warranty period. The lighting can be located in the oven on the side or back wall (depending on the model). The light bulb can be covered with a round or rectangular glass cover-shade.

Replacing the light source in the oven is carried out in the following order:

  • Unplug the oven. If it is hot, wait until it cools completely.
  • Cover the bottom with a cloth or towel. If a light bulb or glass cap accidentally falls, it will not break.
  • If the light bulb is covered with a round cap, then it must be unscrewed by rotating counterclockwise. After this, remove the metal and sealing rings.
  • If the light source is closed with a rectangular lid, then you need to insert a flat object (a screwdriver or the tip of a knife) into the groove on the top and, turning it up, push out the glass plate.
  • Replace the light bulb in the socket.
  • Cover the hole with a lampshade. Round - screw it on, after putting rings on it. Rectangular - insert the bottom edge, and then, lightly pressing top part, click into place.

Only heat-resistant light bulbs rated for temperatures up to 300°C can be installed in the oven.

If the oven uses a halogen lamp for illumination, fingerprints must not be allowed to remain on it. You must either wear gloves or wrap the light bulb in a dry cloth. Contaminated areas should be wiped with a cloth soaked in alcohol.

Disposal of used lamps

The easiest way to recycle incandescent lamps. They are made of glass and metal. They do not contain substances harmful to the environment. Therefore, they can simply be thrown into the trash container.

The same can be done with LED light sources.

Halogen lamps contain no a large number of halogen and halogen compounds. But they do not pose a danger to living organisms and the environment if the flask is destroyed.

The bulbs of fluorescent lamps contain mercury or its compounds belonging to class 1 toxic substances (“extremely dangerous”). They should not be thrown into trash containers. Failed fluorescent light sources must be handed over to public utilities or to special collection points, where they must be accepted free of charge and disposed of in accordance with sanitary standards.

Energy-saving lamps are a type of fluorescent light sources. They must also be handed over to the appropriate organizations for recycling.

Lose weight easily (results in 25 days)

Why persistent dieting DOES NOT BRING visible results, but only leads to frustration and depression, and how to still lose weight in order to:

  • Get your husband's attention back or find a new man.
  • Feel the envious glances of friends and colleagues again.
  • Believe in yourself, feel slim and desired.
  • Don't be shy to go to the cinema or to a cafe with your friends.
  • They are not shy about posting photos from vacation or with children on social networks.

Burn fat specifically in problem areas

A very popular solution for both apartments and offices is lighting using spotlights, rather than one central lighting fixture. This method of organizing lighting has many advantages. Firstly, the placement of lighting fixtures has no restrictions. Secondly, the light that the point element creates has a small scattering angle, that is, most of the light flux falls directly on the object of illumination. Thirdly, this applies to devices with LEDs; with their help, you can organize colored lighting, and thereby obtain an original design solution.

Device structure

A spotlight is a lighting device with a small emitting surface.

It consists of two parts: decorative (visible) and functional. The latter consists of a frame where the lamp is attached, and clamps with which the device is mounted to the ceiling.

The products can be mounted in the ceiling, both suspended and regular, in the wall, on the steps of the stairs, in the floor. In the last two cases, it is recommended to give preference to sidewalk lighting devices, since their housings are designed for heavy loads.

Light sources can be any type of light bulb

  • Incandescent lamps are the most common electrical light source. It has a high color rendering index, low cost, and insensitivity to voltage changes. However, its efficiency does not exceed 4% and its service life is short.
  • Luminescent – gas-discharge light sources. Characterized by much higher luminous efficiency and long service life. However, the bulbs contain mercury, which requires special conditions for disposal and are characterized by low power.
  • Metal halide – high pressure gas discharge lamps. In terms of light output, they are superior to incandescent devices, but inferior to fluorescent ones. Their advantage is that if they replace incandescent light bulbs, no modifications are required.
  • LED or semiconductor - characterized by low energy consumption and a very long service life. The light output is somewhat inferior to fluorescent, but superior to all other lighting devices. The disadvantage is the relatively high cost.

How to replace an incandescent light bulb

In a spotlight, this procedure is carried out in exactly the same way as in any other. The power supply in the room is turned off, the cover of the device is removed, the burnt-out light bulb is unscrewed from the device and a new one is carefully screwed in its place.

How to replace a halogen lamp

It will take a little longer to replace a halogen light bulb.

  1. The decorative cover of the device is removed, then the fixing ring.
  2. A halogen or metal halide light bulb should never be held with bare hands, as any traces of grease on the bulb will lead to damage, and this, in turn, will shorten the life of the device.
  3. The burnt out lamp is unscrewed and a new one is attached in its place. It is recommended to hold the flask with a napkin.
  4. The fixing ring and the device cover are installed.

Installing an LED lamp in a spotlight

If LEDs were installed as light sources, then one thing should be clarified before the procedure. Lamps are both an independent device in which the housing is designed for an LED element, and an element in which an LED lamp can be installed. In the second case, in order to replace the lamp, you should follow the procedure already described.

If we are talking specifically about an LED lamp, then it will have to be replaced entirely along with the housing. Despite the apparent cost of this method, the design of the device is highly energy efficient and compensates for the replacement method.

  1. Power is turned off.
  2. The new device is checked using a tester for short circuits between wires.
  3. The device cover or mount is removed, if we are talking about ceiling lighting, the wires are disconnected. To do this, either remove the insulating caps or the insulating tape on the wires. The wires are disconnected.
  4. The lamps are installed according to the instructions. As a rule, the device is screwed into a tube, and the latter into a box.
  5. The wires are connected according to the markings - the colors must match. Then the caps are put on, or the junction is isolated with tape.
  6. The wires are put into the box. The cover or cover of the device is combined with the box and attached with screws through the holes.

In the video, the process of replacing an LED lighting source is presented in more detail.

Each light bulb in a car performs a specific function. All lighting devices must work properly, as this ensures safety while driving on the road. But light bulbs tend to burn out, some earlier and others later, but it happens. You cannot drive without low beams, high beams, turn signals and brake lights. Therefore, it is necessary to install a new lamp. Let's talk about how to change a light bulb and what difficulties you may encounter while performing such work.

General provisions

The average lamp life depends on its resource and conditions of use. Chinese products usually do not last long, on average 150-200 hours, but there are exceptions. But original lamps can work for many years and still shine as brightly as on the first day. The average service life is about 1.5-2 years. It is after this period that it is worth buying spare ones, although there should always be some. For example, if a lamp burns out on the highway at night, then driving is no longer so comfortable, and it is also unsafe. In this case, it is advisable to know how to change a light bulb on your car; often there is absolutely nothing complicated about it.

It is worth noting that most cars are equipped with halogen lamps. It is strongly recommended not to touch their flasks with your hands. This is due to the fact that during operation they heat up to a high temperature. The remaining grease stains from the hands cause the lamp to simply burn out. The flask should also not be scratched. Otherwise, the replacement process is simple, and now we will look at it.

How to change a headlight bulb

The replacement process often comes down to the fact that first you need to understand whether it is worth removing the headlight or not. The design of most modern cars is such that you do not need to remove the headlight to replace it. Simply unscrew the base from the seat, remove the lamp from the socket and install a new one.

But in some cases the headlight still needs to be removed. Sometimes this is done, rather, for greater convenience of work, and not as a necessity. To do this, you need to unscrew the studs that pass through the headlight housing and hold it firmly in place. But sometimes you don’t even need a tool. For example, on the Volvo XC90 the stud is L-shaped and does not twist, but is simply inserted. If it is necessary to replace the low or high beam lamp, the headlight can be removed and put back very quickly; no tools are needed in this case. But this design is rare, so it’s better to keep a set of keys on hand.

How to change a license plate light bulb

Often, two W5W lamps are installed to illuminate the license plate. This is the most common option without a base. The replacement procedure is usually similar on almost all cars. It consists in the fact that it is necessary to remove the fastening from the latches. On modern cars, latches are often used; on classic VAZs, screws were used for fixation.

Using a flat-head screwdriver, unclip the fasteners and remove the lamp from the protective casing. After that we install a new one. Before placing it back into the case, it is recommended to check for functionality. The assembly process is performed in reverse order. It is worth noting that sometimes one lamp burns out, because of this the license plate is not completely visible, so traffic police officers may have questions. If one lamp burns out, then it is better to change both, so as not to go there again in a month. In general, everything is extremely simple, and there should be no problems. In some cases, when screws are used for fastening, they turn sour. You can pour WD-40 on them and wait a little, after which everything should come off.

Has the light on the instrument panel burned out? No problem!

Here a lot depends on the car model. But the essence remains the same. As for the tools, we will need a flat and figured screwdriver or a set of bits. Often dashboard It is attached using several self-tapping screws. We find and unscrew them. Next, carefully pull the tidy towards you. There is a block in the center; it needs to be disconnected, since without this it will be difficult to replace the required lamp.

We dismantle it from the removed panel back cover. It is held in place by simple plastic clips. We try not to break them in the process. Next we see lamp bases, each of which is responsible for illuminating a particular icon. Scroll the lamp base to the left and remove it. Now you need to remove the light bulb from the base. If you cannot remove it, you can try to fix the base with pliers, but be careful not to damage it. Then we install a new lamp and assemble everything in the reverse order. Since changing the light bulbs on the instrument panel is not difficult, this must be done, because you may not find out about some malfunctions just because the lamp does not work.

Replacing the brake light bulb

Here the procedure is somewhat similar to the one that needs to be done to replace headlight bulbs. On classic cars it is necessary to dismantle the headlamp; on foreign cars this is often not necessary. First, you should open the trunk and remove the trim that blocks access to the lamp. After this, disconnect the wiring harness and use the appropriate wrench to unscrew the nuts securing the light to the body. Now there is free access to the burnt out stop lamp. We unscrew it and install a new one, there is nothing complicated here.

To replace you will need to remove back panel lantern It is held on by plastic latches; carefully remove it and try not to damage anything. It is advisable to inspect the condition of the remaining light bulbs while working and, if necessary, change them too; they cost pennies. So you know how to change a brake light bulb. In some cases, it is not necessary to remove the lamp, since the lamp shade is visible from the trunk. Turning it counterclockwise, we pull it out, take out the burnt out lamp and install a new one. Reassemble in reverse order.

Important information

Often it is worth installing in the headlights what was installed from the factory. These are the lamps that last the longest. Also, don't increase the power if you feel like the light isn't bright enough. This can lead to the fact that not only the contacts on the ceiling lamp melt, but also those on the steering column switch. Ultimately, the latter will have to be replaced completely or you will have to pay money for expensive repairs. For example, if you increase the power by 40%, then the headlights may soon crack and become cloudy due to the high temperature, and the quality of light in this case will become even worse.

Let's sum it up

Since changing a side light bulb or any other light bulb on a car is not difficult, it is better to do such work yourself. True, there are some exceptions here. For example, on modern BMW or Mercedes cars, it is not always possible to replace the lamp yourself, since this requires removing a lot of things. But for budget cars this is quite possible.

Now a large number of chandeliers with 12v halogen lamps are sold on the market and everything would be fine, but some want to save on electricity or prefer neutral white light to yellow. It would seem that everything is simple, you need to buy a light diode lamps with the same base as halogen lamps, install them and the chandelier will work perfectly. But here lies one problem that emerges after installing LED lamps. Let's figure out how to get around problems when replacing lamps.

Why is it difficult to install LED lamps?

I would like to write right away that everything described in this article relates only to chandeliers that use halogen lamps with an operating voltage of 12V.

The fact is that chandeliers with 12-volt light bulbs use transformers (or power supplies, whatever you want to call them) that convert the 220-volt alternating current of our electrical network into alternating current 12 volts, which is needed for halogen bulbs. In this case, the output voltage is not stabilized. And for LED lamps you need a stabilized constant voltage. This fact alone causes problems for many. For example, flickering of LED lamps is possible, noticeable to the human eye, which happened in my case. Believe me, it's unpleasant.

The second problem you may encounter may be due to the low power consumption of LED bulbs. The fact is that some transformers automatically turn off if the consumed load is too small, and this is exactly our case. For example, the power of one halogen lamp is more than the power of ten LED lamps (the power of a halogen lamp is 20 watts, and the power of an LED lamp is 1.5 watts). In my case, this did not happen, but do not be alarmed if, after replacing the lamps, the chandelier goes out or flickers.

And the third problem that I encountered is very strange, but be prepared for such a turn of events. The fact is that I have a chandelier with a control panel, and when I changed all the lamps to LED ones, the control panel could only turn on the lamps, but not turn them off or change the mode. In general, we can say that the remote control has stopped working. As soon as I returned several halogen lamps (only part) to their place, the remote control worked (you can see in the picture that the halogen lamps produce yellow light). I think this is again due to insufficient load.

Transformer replacement

The case with mixed types of lamps does not suit me, so I decided to replace the transformers of halogen lamps with power supplies for LED lamps. I opened the chandelier and found inside 3 transformers for halogen lamps (one 160 watt transformer for one group of lamps and two others for the second group of lamps), 1 control unit and 1 control unit for LED backlight(chandelier can flash red and blue light).

Now you need to calculate the total load on the power supply. In my chandelier there are two groups of lamps 8 and 9, with an LED lamp power of 1.5 watts, it turns out 12 and 13.5 watts, respectively. Also remember that after installing the power supply, under no circumstances should you insert halogen lamps into the chandelier!

I bought a couple of sources at the store DC voltage 12v Navigator can withstand a load of up to 15 watts and are the right size for me (will fit inside the chandelier), see the picture. In addition to the main function, such a power supply protects against short circuits, power surges and overloads.

Then I unsoldered the wires from the transformers (see the first photo below), since I didn’t want to unwind the twists, and connected them to the power supplies Navigator, through the terminal blocks (see second photo from below). If you cannot unsolder the wires, for some reason, then you can simply cut the wires.

After I replaced the halogen lamp transformers with power supplies for LED lamps, I got rid of two problems: the LEDs stopped flickering and the chandelier began to work properly from the control panel. As a result, the insides of my chandelier began to look like this.

And all this naturally fit inside the chandelier.

Appearance of a chandelier with LED lamps

My chandelier uses bases G4 and I found LED bulbs to be almost the same size as halogen bulbs. These are light bulbs LUNA LED G4 1.5W 4000K 12V in a silicone case.

This LED bulb is slightly larger in size than a halogen bulb. And some may not like how the lampshades look when they are off, but it seemed normal to me. Below in the photos you can see what the lampshade looks like with a halogen lamp and an LED lamp.

And when the chandelier is turned on, you won’t be able to see whether the LEDs or halogen lamps are on.

Is it worth replacing halogen lamps with LED lamps?

So, let's summarize all the work done. In total, I spent 2053.50 rubles on upgrading the chandelier. (17 LED lamps for 80 rub. + delivery 100 rub. + sources direct current 593.50 rub.) and a couple of hours of work. And now my chandelier has become energy efficient and shines with neutral white light, just like I wanted. For me, the deciding factor was the color, but others may like the efficiency (25.5 watts total for LEDs vs. 340 watts for halogens) and LED life time (30,000 hours for LEDs vs. 4,000 hours for halogens). But keep in mind that a 20-watt halogen bulb is about twice as bright as a 1.5-watt LED bulb (300-440 lumens for 20-watt halogen bulbs versus 150-230 lumens for 1.5-watt LED bulbs). If the brightness is not enough, you can use more powerful lamps, for example, 2.5 watts, but the physical size of such lamps will be larger. This must be taken into account, because the lamp must fit inside the lampshade.

This article is dedicated to light bulbs for suspended ceilings, their types and the most preferred types. How to screw in or change a light bulb yourself? We propose to consider these and many other questions in more detail.

What types of lamps are there? Main types

To begin with, let's give a few general concepts. Most often, recessed lamps are used in suspended ceiling designs. If there are a few extra centimeters left between the ceiling and the structure, then why not use them wisely?

Please note: You can also attach a regular surface-mounted lamp to the suspended structure. The main subtlety is the specific fastening, which is made directly to the profile frame. Plasterboard or PVC panels cannot be secured with screws in a way that is at least somewhat reliable.

In addition to design, recessed spotlights are distinguished by the following characteristics:

We have dealt with the main criteria that will help you make the right choice when purchasing light bulbs for a suspended ceiling, based on the degree of protection of their structure from water and dust. Now we propose to take a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of the main types of light bulbs. Let's look at them in more detail.

Lamps for recessed luminaires and their types

Incandescent lamps

One of the first and main sources of artificial light, which recently turned 120 years old. But these light bulbs have proven themselves to be extremely wasteful, since no more than 2% of the energy spent turns into light.

In addition, after a short period of use, the surface of the lamp heats up to a fairly high temperature, which is extremely undesirable. Without ventilation, it is extremely difficult to remove heat from a small space.

The light bulb socket has very impressive dimensions and is 12-15 cm in length. Using such light bulbs in modern designs is very problematic.

Based on the above indicators, this type of light bulb is not best options for use in suspended ceiling construction. Significant advantages include the ability to work in conditions of high humidity, at low and high temperatures.

Halogen lamps

Like many others, the operation of this type of light bulb is based on heat. The main difference is that the main coil is surrounded not by rarefied air, but by halogen vapor.

They do their best to prevent the evaporation of the metal base of the spiral, entering into a chemical reaction with it and depositing it on the same surface of the spiral from which they are trying to separate, in search of a colder surface.

As a result of exposure of the metal to high temperatures, the light bulb provides better light transmission and operates longer, while consuming less electricity. The dimensions of halogen lamps are quite small and are only 6 cm.

On store shelves you can find low-voltage halogen lamps that operate on 12 or 24 V. Power converters are the most vulnerable part of the lighting system, so place the transformer in an easily accessible place.

Please note: Never touch the body of a halogen light bulb with your bare hands. Even the slightest contamination, including subcutaneous fat, will burn and darkening will form on the surface of the quartz glass, after which it will collapse.

Energy saving light bulbs

This term implies a compact fluorescent lamp with a standard socket, but this does not fully reflect reality. However, most prefer to use outdated technology.

This type of light bulb can be safely classified as economical, which also produces very little heat. The power of such a light bulb allows it to be completely inside the suspended structure. More powerful bulbs often protrude slightly beyond the suspended ceiling.

The main disadvantages of energy-saving light bulbs:

  • The complex electronics system does not tolerate humid environments. They are not the best option for a bathroom or swimming pool.
  • The number of cycles in it is limited, so the more often you turn it on, the faster it will burn out.
  • The transmitted spectrum of the light bulb is very far from the natural spectrum of the sun, which is more natural to the human eye. Even warm light lamps are quite unusual and tiresome for the eyes.
  • Do not forget that first of all, in front of you is a container with mercury vapor inside. After it is damaged or burned, the room must be ventilated and all metal particles must be completely removed from the floor and other surfaces. But few people do this, so the health of the residents of the house suffers every time.

LED

This type of light bulb is almost ideal for suspended ceiling construction. The main disadvantage can be called high price. Otherwise, we suggest considering a number of features:

  • Of all types, LED light bulbs have the highest efficiency, which indicates their efficiency.
  • Their production technology has made it possible to completely eliminate the need for reflectors, since they direct light radiation to only one hemisphere of space.
  • They do not contain harmful substances, just as absolutely no harmful components are used in their production, which indicates their safety during operation and after its completion.
  • There is no influence on the cyclic operation of the product, which allows you to extend its service life, regardless of the number of starts and stops.
  • One light bulb is designed for 50-100 hours of continuous operation.

Please note: as a rule, power converters last much less than the light bulbs themselves, so the ideal option is to purchase low-voltage lamps for a suspended ceiling and then install a common power supply for them in a place that is always accessible for repairs.

Summarize

Based on the totality of all properties, LED light bulbs are better than others for suspended ceilings. Gradually, the prices for these products are falling, so their only drawback will become insignificant over time.

Helpful Hint: First Replacement LED light bulb in the design of a suspended ceiling for a person who has never done this before looks quite problematic.

So: It is recommended to use either a regular light bulb, which is a right-hand thread framed by a standard lampshade; either two pins that can simply be inserted into the socket, or a pair of side protrusions that allow you to fix the lamp after turning it 90*.

First of all, pay special attention to the light bulb itself and its surface. Energy-saving and regular light bulbs are unscrewed by pressing slightly and then turning counterclockwise. Either it will turn half a turn and fall out, or it will unscrew like a regular fluorescent light bulb.

If you see a smaller structure inside a large bulb, then this is a halogen lamp, and they are characterized by a pin connector, although not always.

But how to replace a light bulb located in a suspended ceiling? Simply pry it with your fingers and pull it towards you. If the first attempt is unsuccessful, then remove the lamp from the cavity completely, because it is supported by two springy legs and the structure, such actions will not harm. After this, it will be much easier to pry the light bulb.

Conclusion

We sincerely hope that you will have to replace light bulbs quite rarely. Follow the basic rule to extend the life of a lighting fixture: make sure the contact between the socket and the wiring is reliable; Avoid overheating the bulb. Good luck in choosing a lighting device!

How to change a built-in light bulb in a suspended ceiling, photo instructions, replacing an LED, halogen light bulb with your own hands, lesson

Do you know how to change a built-in light bulb?

Built-in lamps are often and widely used in the construction of suspended ceilings.

Many owners do the installation of the structure themselves, thereby gaining additional knowledge and saving on installation work.

But most people order ceiling installation from a specialized company, not caring that later they will have to decide some issues themselves.

So, if you don’t know how to change a light bulb in a suspended ceiling, then this article is for you.

Lamps used

Several types of lamps are used in luminaires that are installed on suspended ceilings. Let's look at some of these lamps below.

1. Halogen lamps

They can be installed with a minimum gap between the installed ceiling and its base. These lamps produce strong and bright illumination.

halogen lamps in the interior

The disadvantage of using halogen lamps in a suspended ceiling is that replacing this element is more difficult than, for example, an incandescent lamp. At the same time, you need to be very careful.

From correct installation halogen lamp its service life depends.

2. Incandescent lamps

mirror incandescent lamps

As you know, frequent changes in lighting negatively affect the operation of incandescent light bulbs. Best used to prevent possible problems There are voltage stabilizers on the branch.

Incandescent lamps are much easier to replace than other types of suspended ceiling lamps, because they are familiar to many.

3. LED lamps

This type of lamps is the most economical and durable. Another advantage is that LED lamps are compact and are used in various design applications.

The design of all types of ceiling lamps is approximately the same and consists of:

  1. Lamp housing containing wires and socket
  2. Clamps that secure the device
  3. Protective glass or plastic cover
  4. Fixing ring

dimensions of the built-in lamp

Progress of lamp replacement: stages of work

  1. First of all, the most important thing. The power supply must be turned off. Don't forget about safety precautions.
  2. After this, choose a stable and reliable stand or ladder so that you can do the work comfortably. Work in tension and suspension systems requires special care to eliminate the possibility of damage to the tension fabric of the ceiling. Moreover, if the ceiling is a mirror system, any careless movement can cause irreparable harm.
  3. Unlock the light bulb in the housing; a special locking ring is provided for this.

  1. When performing this step, hold the light bulb firmly; the ring itself is usually spring-loaded and can easily slip out of your hand.
  2. Next, you need to remove the lamp itself in the manner provided for its fastening. After making sure that the new lamp is the same power as the previous one, you can change the built-in light bulb. Don't forget to put the ring back in place and secure it.

Types of lamp mounting

At self-replacement lamps, you need to know the design of the lamp mount itself. There are 3 types of fastening:

  1. With traditional right-hand thread
  2. Fastening with pins
  3. Swivel mount

So, with the first type of fastening everything is simple; this type is used for a regular, well-known cartridge. There are lamps that are mounted using special pins that serve as guides. Such pins are fixed after a characteristic click.

It is important to know that when replacing this type of fastener, do not press with force. It will click effortlessly if you hit the groove correctly.

The third type of fastening consists of 2 stages: first you need to insert the lamp, and then turn it 90 degrees to fix the element.

Before replacing any of the above lamps, inspect it carefully. If you change energy saving lamp or incandescent, then you need to turn it counterclockwise, but do not press.

Detailed step-by-step instructions on how to unscrew a light bulb from a stretch ceiling

Its sophistication and attractive appearance The ceiling can be obtained not only thanks to various unique shapes and colors, but multi-colored illumination on it will look no less impressive. The most popular option is spotlights. They are installed in a certain number on the ceiling: usually more than a couple of pieces. To add beauty and install lamps, you need to know how to mount them correctly.

Types of light bulbs used

Today, the construction market offers a wide range of luminescent products, including various shapes and decor.

The most popular are:

  • Halogen lamps for suspended ceilings. They produce a powerful glow and are the most convenient option for installation in a suspended ceiling. The only drawback is that the installation process is somewhat more complicated than a conventional incandescent lamp. Advice. Because common cause If lighting fixtures malfunction due to sudden changes in voltage, the correct option would be to install voltage stabilizers that prevent the lamps from burning out.
  • Regular incandescent lamps. Their installation is not particularly difficult, and there are no particular problems in operation.
  • LED lamps are the most common option. They consume electricity economically and are ideal for installation in spotlights for suspended ceilings.

In order to correctly install the lamp, you need to know about the types of its possible mounting:

  • Traditional carving. This is a standard type of fastening, with which hardly anyone will have problems.
  • The next type includes lamps that are mounted on two special pins that regulate the direction of the lamp and fix it. If you decide to replace a burnt-out lamp, do not be afraid to apply pressure while unscrewing it. At the same time, if you did something incorrectly, the proper click will not follow.
  • The last but not least common type is the mount, which locks into place when the lamp is rotated 90 degrees.

Note. Special fasteners can tell you how to unscrew a light bulb from a stretch ceiling. For example, if there is a cone in the suspended ceiling, it may be a sign of a halogen element. When replacing such a lamp, you do not need to screw it in; just attach it to the pins.

Replacing the LED lamp

When working with lighting devices, the first thing you need to do is turn off the power to the apartment. To do this, turn off the required element in the power supply branch. Do this with due care and caution, following safety rules. It is also better to take a chair and any other stand with which it will be convenient for you to do your work.

Be careful with the stretch ceiling fabric; any sudden movement can damage it.

Now proceed to directly replacing the lamp:

  1. To begin, unlock the lamp in the mounting system. A special fixing ring is responsible for this. Be careful, the ring can easily slip out of your hand.
  2. Then slowly unscrew old lamp. Inspect it and select a new lamp with the appropriate characteristics: size and power.
  3. After replacing the lamp, return the retaining ring to its place and secure it in proper condition.

Here are some tips on how to remove a light bulb from a stretch ceiling:

  • If the ceiling provides for the installation of LED lamps, but you definitely don’t have enough power, use a little trick: instead of the usual, standard yellow color buy a white one. With this simple replacement you will increase the brightness of the lightening without affecting the power consumed.
  • To achieve a harmonious effect of transmitting light into the suspended ceiling of one room, it is better to mount lamps of the same model. This way you will get an aesthetic and attractive appearance. If for any reason you cannot find the lamp you need, replace everything in the room. To do this, always purchase a couple more light bulbs so that you can quickly replace them at the right time.
  • To make the lamp last longer, do not screw it into the lamp with your bare hands. Use gloves or a dry cloth.
  • By the way, do not forget that a suspended ceiling will not withstand an overly powerful lamp. It is better to purchase it with a power of no more than 35 W to avoid possible damage to the material.

Ceiling lamp design

Almost all suspended ceiling lamps have the same structure:

  • the main element is the housing, it holds the wires and houses the cartridge;
  • special clamps are also used to ensure that the housing is securely fixed to the surface;
  • this entire structure is protected by a glass or plastic cover;
  • The last part is a clamp that secures the entire structure.

Tips on how to replace a halogen light bulb on a suspended ceiling

If your room has halogen lamps, replacing them will require a little more effort. They have many advantages. The lamps do not blind a person’s eyes and provide a soft, pleasant light that we easily perceive. As a rule, halogen lamps last no more than 5 years, but this is much longer than that of a conventional lamp.

When replacing a halogen lamp, first turn off the electricity. Then you need to carefully remove the mount that holds the lamp itself. Now that you see the socket, unscrew the light bulb from it, replace it with a new model, and then return the mount to its place and secure it firmly.

Thus, replacing any lamp, be it a halogen or LED model, is quite simple. The only problem that may arise is the lack of a suitable lamp. After all, on one ceiling, all lighting fixtures must be combined. Therefore, do not forget to buy a couple of extra lamps during the installation of the stretch ceiling, so that you can easily replace the burnt one.

How to unscrew a light bulb from a suspended ceiling

Before you start unscrewing a lamp from a suspended ceiling, you should have an idea of its design.

The second important circumstance is to determine the type of lamp to be replaced.

Suspended ceiling as a light source

In recent decades, the practice of installing lamps in suspended ceilings has become widespread. These decorative structures are suspended from the concrete ceiling of a room.

They are usually mounted on a frame made of wooden slats or a metal profile. The suspended ceiling, in turn, is attached to the existing ceiling.

For a decorative suspended ceiling, sheet plasterboard, various tile materials, wood and metal are used. As a result, in addition to the possibility of installing lighting fixtures, defects in the existing ceiling are hidden.

Such ceilings can also be suspended from durable synthetic materials.

In the resulting space up to ten centimeters high, the wiring and the main part of the lighting fixtures are hidden. For access to communications and some lamps, special hatches are installed.

One of essential functions Such a ceiling is used to illuminate the room with lamps built into it.

The space between the suspended and main ceilings is used for routing electric lighting wires and hiding the main structural elements of light sources.

What lamps are used

To ensure even lighting and turn off unnecessary lamps, they mainly use spotlights that are inserted into specially cut holes in the decorative ceiling.

This lamp is a flanged ring, decorated on the outside.

Spring fasteners are attached to the lamp body, securing the lamp to the ceiling and the socket into which the lamp is inserted. Such a socket may have a thread for screwing in the lamp base. Many modern lamps are fixed in the lamp body without a socket.

The most popular types of lamps for these purposes are:

  • halogen lamps
  • energy saving lamps
  • lamps where the light source is LEDs
  • traditional incandescent light bulbs

The first three types can be made in versions for an electrical network with a voltage of 220 volts or a low voltage current of 12-30 volts.

Halogen-type electric lamps provide excellent color rendering. They are durable, quite economical and compact.

Lamps that save electricity are fluorescent devices. They heat up slightly and consume little electricity.

Traditional lamps, which emit light by heating a tungsten filament, are not relevant today due to their low efficiency. Their advantages continue to be the ability to work in heat, cold and significant humidity.

Subtleties of replacing lamps on a suspended ceiling

To install lamps in luminaires on a suspended ceiling, use:

  • standard chuck with right-hand thread
  • two protruding contacts on the lamp body
  • side projections with which it is fixed in the lamp after turning it half a turn

To remove an incandescent or energy-saving lamp, simply press it lightly and turn it to the left. As a result, depending on the characteristics of the socket, the lamp can be unscrewed or removed freely.

If we are talking about replacing a halogen lamp, just grab it by the edges and pull it out of its place. It is important to consider that any contamination of the halogen lamp body is unacceptable.

Contamination occurs at the point of contamination, which leads to uneven heating of the flask and its failure. Therefore, you should not pick up the lamp with hands without gloves.

IN LED lamps Replacing light-emitting semiconductor diodes is problematic. It is installed directly in the lamp body on printed circuit board.

If you cannot find the right LED, you have to replace such an expensive lamp entirely.

So that there are no problems

When planning to unscrew a lamp from a ceiling light, you should follow basic rules. First of all, the lamp must be unplugged.

Make sure that the wiring is intact and the contacts are reliable. When replacing one type of lamp with another, check what voltage they are designed for.

This is especially important for incandescent and halogen lamps, which can become very hot and burn your hands. In this case, the hot lamp may fall out of your hands and break.

If an incandescent lamp is broken and you cannot remove it by hand, it is recommended to remove the socket by turning it counterclockwise using pliers.

If a fluorescent lamp containing mercury vapor breaks, it is necessary to take measures to remove traces of this metal from the walls and floor.

If a halogen lamp gets stuck, it is advisable to completely remove the lamp, after which the lamp can be removed freely.

Given the increasing prevalence of luminaires in suspended ceilings, decisions about their use should be made responsibly.

You need to study them first specifications and features of the operation of specific types of lamps for such ceilings.

Replacing halogen lamps in a chandelier with LED ones: we do not pay attention to the difficulties

Halogen and LED lighting are quite representative and popular. Of these two options, it is sometimes difficult to choose a source for installation in a chandelier. I haven’t guessed right for a long time and I’m approaching the procedure correctly: substitution halogen lamps in LED chandelier let's look at the impressive advantages of both applicants.

Advantages of LED chandelier

The first and most important factor, of course, is the time required to light the bulb. If the incandescent bulb burns evenly, the LED elements begin to emit full light as soon as it is turned on.

This type of chandelier is less likely to fail even if the switch is turned on very often. The LED light source is absolutely safe for installation at home.

Mainly the purpose of replacement halogen lamps LED is considered a common human desire to save energy. However, just buy flask with the same base and power is not enough. There are many subtleties in the dismantling process.

What is complexity and can it be avoided?

In fact, replacing one light source with another complicates the process and raises a number of questions.

  • For example, a regular chandelier with 12-volt halogen bulbs is not intended to be a replacement source since it has a transformer that converts standard voltage to typical "halogen".
