Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) review: almost S7. Flagship or midrange? Comparison Galaxy S7 vs Galaxy A5 (2017) Comparison samsung s7 and a7

Samsung kicked off 2017 with an update to Galaxy A series smartphones, and as noted, Russia was one of the first countries where they appeared. It's time to take a closer look at one of the series' smartphones, the Galaxy A7 (2017).

Design

Samsung has always managed to maintain a level of quality in terms of features and design with every update to the A series and it certainly continues that tradition in 2017. Furthermore, new series in terms of design and level of water resistance, it repeats the premium Galaxy S series.

The main difference from old series you'll find especially in the A7, more specifically that it's got more rounded corners and curved edges. The curved-edge design and glass and aluminum body make the A7 feel like it's been transplanted from the S7. The Super AMOLED display of the smartphone is protected by 2.5D curved glass, which makes it look like a beautiful premium device in your hands. The dimensions of the smartphone are 156.8 x 77.6 x 7.9 mm and the weight is 186 grams.

One of the main differences between the A7 2017 and its predecessors is that it received IP68 certification. It means that samsung galaxy A7 (2017) is impermeable to dust and can safely survive in water at a depth of 1.5 m for 30 minutes.

The power buttons are located on the right side with a speaker grill above it. On the left, you'll find a paired volume rocker and a SIM card slot. At the bottom of the traditionally located 3.5 mm audio jack and USB port Type-C, and at the very top is a microSD card slot.

Camera

Samsung has also decided to cater to selfie lovers by equipping the smartphone with an impressive 16-megapixel front camera. On the front, we see familiar Samsung navigation elements: a fingerprint scanner built into the home button and capacitive buttons on either side of it.

On the back of the A7 (2017) is a 16-megapixel main camera with LED flash and autofocus. Both the front and main cameras have f/1.9 apertures.

Display and Specifications

Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) received a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. In such a display, there is nothing to complain about. Colors are rich, images are crisp and it has great viewing angles. The ratio of the display surface to the body of the smartphone is almost 74%, which is not too bad for the beginning of 2017 (it is not known how much the market will be occupied by frameless smartphones in the near future).

Under the “hood” of the A7 (2017) is Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 7880 processor, clocked at 1.9 GHz. The RAM is 3 GB and the built-in 32 GB. The latter can be expanded with a microSD card. All this is powered by a 3600 mAh battery.

Wireless networks include standard Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. The smartphone also has NFC module for making payments at terminals. A7 equipped with proximity sensors, accelerometer and barometer.

Software

It spoils the impression a little. software, or rather the version of Android. The A7 (2017) got Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, though nothing stopped it from preinstalling Nougat. But apparently the company has its own considerations in this regard and one can only hope that the OS update will not be long in coming.

For those who like the features and design described above, the A7 (2017) is available in several colors: black, gold, pink and blue. In Russia Galaxy smartphone A7 (2017) is sold at a price of 32,000 rubles.

Conclusion

The Galaxy A7 (2017) is the top-of-the-line model in the A-series, with specs that in some cases go beyond the notion of a mid-range smartphone. AT this smartphone Samsung has applied tried and tested components and features, making it a reliable smartphone with a premium design.

As we remember, Samsung on the eve of the last New Year showed the world its latest mid-range smartphone Galaxy A5 (2017). This device, by tradition, is based on the flagship Galaxy S7. We decided to find out what is common and different between the A5 model and its older "sister".

As we mentioned above, the design for the A5 (2017) was taken from the Galaxy S7, which suggests that there are a number of similarities. The dimensions of both smartphones are very similar: 146.1 x 71.4 x 7.9 mm for the A5, which is slightly larger than the S7 - 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm.

The heroes of our review look great. The Galaxy S7 model is slightly inferior to the A5 in size, which is quite standard for flagship devices, and in this regard, the device of the A line is clearly perceived as a representative of the mid-budget segment. As for the exterior finish of the devices in question, in both cases it High Quality, and we are pleased to see that Samsung is trying to raise the bar even higher for its mid-range models.

Location of keys and slots for microSD cards the same on both smartphones, although there is still a slight difference: the speaker on the bottom end of the S7 in the A5 model has been moved to the right side of the case. But why? The answer is simple: to make it easier for users to watch videos and games. If the sound comes from the bottom of the device, it can be easily muffled with the palm of your hand when the device is in it.

In both the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy A5, the fingerprint scanner is built into the Home key, and at the bottom you can see the mini-jack connector. Unlike the flagship device, the A5 also features a Type-C USB. Another common point for these smartphones is IP68 certification - that is, both of them are perfectly protected from dust and water.

Display

At 5.2 inches, the A5 (2017)'s display is slightly larger than its big brother's, which is 5.1 inches. As before, Samsung used Super AMOLED technology for these screens. Since the Galaxy S7 is a premium device, its screen resolution is higher - 1400 x 2560 pixels, while the A5 model received a Full HD (1080 x 1920) panel. Note that such indicators will be more than enough for everyday use.

As for the "traditional" use, for example, sending messages, watching videos, playing games, etc., in this case, both our smartphones have very good displays with a decent level of maximum brightness, so users can read content even in bright sunlight . If you wish to use your device for virtual reality, you should prefer the flagship S7.

Despite the fact that the devices in question operate under the control different versions Android, each of them has a "Night" mode. This function is convenient for using the screen without straining your eyes. Always On Display mode is also present in each of the devices.

Software

The Galaxy S7 was originally released with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. After many months, the Nougat version still got on board this smartphone. It's a pity, but the Galaxy A5 does not have this android versions, and there is version 6.0.1. It is likely that Samsuhg did not want to overload the device of the mid-budget segment too much, but, in any case, this does not do her credit.

We go further. In both smartphones, you can see the proprietary TouchWiz interface, which functions without any complaints. Personally, we do not really like the combination of white and blue colors, but this is a matter of taste for everyone. Each of the above devices has a pre-installed installed applications, although they are mainly represented by Samsung, Google and Microsoft. It's worth noting that the S7 and A5 include a Samsung gaming system called the Game Launcher. In our opinion, the user experience on both devices is quite good, so there are no problems in this area.

Performance

As we mentioned above, the Galaxy S7 is a top-end device, while the Galaxy A5 is a mid-range device. This pretty much sums up what you can expect from such devices: if you want a more powerful option, then go for the S7. This smartphone has a powerful Exynos 8890 octa-core processor and 4 GB of RAM. The graphics co-processor Mali T880 MP12 is responsible for the graphics. All of this guarantees a smooth user experience with enough power to complete almost any task without lag.

The Galaxy A5, for its part, is equipped with an octa-core Exynos 7880 processor manufactured using 14nm technology. This smartphone has a slightly smaller amount of "RAM" - only 3 gigabytes. In terms of graphics support, there is a Mali T830 MP3 processor. Now that the introductory data has been announced, let's move on to the practical part: we tested the A5 (2017) in various scenarios (especially in heavy games), and did not find any problems or freezes. In other words, even if the hardware isn't quite on the same level, it still performs almost like the S7. At least that's the case when it comes to "normal" usage.

Volume internal memory in A5 is 32 GB, although some of it is already occupied by the operating system. A similar situation is observed in relation to the Galaxy S7.

When it comes to SAR parameters, the S7 performs the best here: 1.40 W/kg for the head and 1.59 W/kg for the body. Model A5: 0.52 W/kg head and 1.39 W.

Camera

As has been written about a lot before, the Galaxy S7 has one of the best smartphone cameras to date. I wonder if the camera A5 (2017), which belongs to the devices of the middle price segment, will be able to put its “colleague” from the flagship device on the shoulder blades? The answer is not entirely clear. The S7 has a 12-megapixel main camera with an f/1.7 aperture using dual pixel technology. On the front panel of the smartphone, there is a front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels and f / 1.7 aperture.

The A5 includes 16-megapixel rear and front cameras with f/1.9 apertures. In short, this device can produce good pictures, but in poor lighting conditions, the quality of the photo deteriorates noticeably and noise becomes noticeable.

It is interesting to note that such a weakness in the Galaxy A5 is strong point in the Galaxy S7 because, thanks to its dual pixel technology, the latter is able to take great pictures even in low light. If you don’t care about high expectations from your smartphone in terms of a smart camera, then the option in the form of the Galaxy A5 (2017) is quite suitable for you. On the other hand, if you plan to take a lot of photos, then the S7 will be your best friend.

Battery

The Galaxy A5 can be considered a viable option for many people due to its excellent battery life. This was made possible thanks to the battery capacity of 3000 mAh and Full HD screen resolution. By the way, the combination of a sufficiently powerful battery with moderate power consumption is an interesting thing in itself. We have found that the A5 battery can last almost a day and a half (with normal use), and a little more than one with intensive use of the device.

The Galaxy S7 also has a 3,000 mAh battery with a slightly shorter battery life, although that's no surprise to us given the phone's QHD display. On the other hand, the flagship S7 has an advantage that many users will appreciate - fast charging. Thanks to this chip, the battery of this device can be charged from 0 to 100 percent in about 100 minutes.

Verdict

All in all, the Galaxy S7 outperforms the A5 (2017) in almost every category. This flagship has set the bar high, and its mid-range younger sibling is struggling to keep up. If you want to own the best device, you should definitely choose a top device. If image quality and performance are not your top priorities, then the A5 is a great alternative.

The last significant aspect is the price. The cost of the S7 model has fallen significantly over the past year, and now varies between 670-700 dollars. If the smartphone was in use, then it can be bought within 400-450 dollars. The Galaxy A5 costs a lot less - a new device will set you back around $350 - so if you're on a tight budget, a mid-range smartphone will be more affordable option.

Which of the above smartphones would you prefer to buy? Why are you leaning towards one of them? Tell us about it in the comments.

Samsung's spring flagship 2015 scored 50% of fives in Yandex Market reviews and 84% of recommendations for purchase.

According to the results of 2016, this model took the 4th place in the world in terms of popularity among Android smartphones. In Russia, the model took 6th place, this is the best result in the Samsung smartphone catalog. The touch screen of the smartphone is made of the most durable glass - Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The 5.1-inch screen has a resolution of 2560x1440. The smartphone works with any devices for wireless charging. As you can tell from the name of the model, the built-in memory is 32 GB and the RAM is 3 GB. Operating system - Android 6.0. Single SIM support. Battery capacity 2550 mAh. There is a fingerprint scanner.

The camera deserves special praise. Resolution main 16 mp, front 5 mp. In May 2015, the w3bsit3-dns.com portal wrote: "Both the Galaxy S6 and its brother Galaxy S6 edge are two smartphones with the best built-in camera to date. Samsung gives pleasure to all photography lovers - the pleasure of shooting." Main camera features: automatic real-time HDR processing, optical image stabilization, and infrared sensor. The camera takes excellent pictures even after sunset. Quote from a review of the 4PDA portal: “In the dark, the camera takes excellent pictures that you don’t expect to see on a smartphone screen. Illuminated objects and the sky look very expressive, the lights do not flood the frame with blurry light, the contrast is transmitted naturally. In general, you can shoot without fear of getting a set of dark and light spots instead of a spectacular shot."

A quote from the most popular review about this model in the Svyaznoy online store: "Samsung has long learned to make excellent, if not the best hardware. Although the screens caused controversy, they were very cool for my taste. There was its own application store and its own messenger, although it did not find popularity. Flagship cameras from Samsung are already in several generations very good and in comparison with the cameras of other flagships they often surpass them in many ways. The only serious drawback was the design.More precisely, its absence. And finally, Samsung designers did what was expected of them!!Design appeared in the sixth generation of the flagship!!Yes , inspired by appearance competitor! But the most beautiful competitor!! And Samsung did better!"

4th place.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 32Gb

average price in Russia - 29,000 rubles. The flagship from Samsung went on sale in early spring 2016 and at the end of the year became the best-selling smartphone of the South Korean company, and also entered the top three. This model became the most popular in the USA, where it took first place in sales at the end of the year. One in 10 Android smartphones sold in the US last year was a Samsung flagship. AlsoThe Galaxy S7 Edge took first place in sales in Germany and Hong Kong.

Today, this model has 45% of fives according to reviews in Yandex Market (see. ) and 71% of recommendations to buy.

The technical characteristics of another slightly curved model for the convenience of users are pleasantly surprising: a 5.5-inch screen with an incredible resolution of 2560x1440, the latest Android 6.0 operating system, 32 GB of permanent and 4 GB of RAM. Those with 32 GB permanent memory not enough, they can use the memory card slot and expand the memory up to 200 GB (iPhones do not have a memory card slot and have to be content with the original one). If previous Samsung flagship Galaxy S6 (as, by the way, all iPhones) supported only one SIM card, then Samsung Galaxy S7 got rid of this shortcoming and supports 2 SIM cards.

Battery capacity 3600 mAh. Operating time without recharging in talk mode 27 hours, in music listening mode 74 hours. There is a fingerprint scanner. There is support for Samsung Pay.

As for the camera, here we see the same characteristics of the matrix as in the 6th afoin: a 12-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Samsung cites the following advantages of the camera in this smartphone: a larger aperture lens (F1.7) and larger sensor pixels (1.4 microns) capture much more light, which allows you to consistently get clear and detailed photos even in low light conditions; smartphones support Dual Pixel technology: all sensor pixels have two photodiodes instead of one, which allows the sensor to focus as quickly and accurately as the human eye, and Dual Pixel technology ensures autofocus is so fast and flawless that you can capture even the sharpest movement in low light conditions; For the first time, you can capture motion in Animated Panorama mode.

w3bsit3-dns.com portal Samsung review Galaxy S7 Edge 32Gb writes: "Samsung took an interesting step by completely changing the camera after the success of the previous generation. Only after trying a new device in practice, you understand that this happened for a reason, and no one in a Korean company would decide to change a great module to one that what's worse. In the opinion of the layman, four megapixels (the Samsung Galaxy S6 had 16 of them) are really lost, but an experienced amateur photographer will tell you that happiness is not in the number of megapixels. "Samsung Galaxy S7 edge sets new standard quality for cameras in smartphones for at least the next year. For excellent photos both day and night, spectacular videos, optical stabilization and many shooting modes, the w3bsit3-dns.com editors mark the SGS7 edge with the “Nice Shot” badge.

You can also note the possibility of very fast wireless charging and complete water resistance (you can shoot video for 30-40 minutes at a depth of 1 meter under water). Always active screen will display useful information on a locked device. This feature is advanced enough to automatically turn off when the smartphone is in your pocket or bag, face down, or when the smartphone is almost empty.

Samsung Galaxy S8- the most popular Samsung smartphone

average price in Russia - 41 900 rubles. Flagship from the leading smartphone manufacturer in South Korea and in the world appeared on sale at the end of April 2017 and today has received 50% of fives according to reviews in Yandex Market and 75% of recommendations for purchase. Today it is the best-selling model in the Samsung catalog (according to Yandex-Market).

Fans of the South Korean brand had to wait a whole year for a new flagship (last year's summer flagship Galaxy Note 7 does not count, because Samsung was forced to withdraw this model sales shortly after they started due to battery problems) after the March 2016 release of the Galaxy S7. As a result, the release of the Galaxy S8 caused an incredible stir: in the first two days, the number of pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus (larger version of the model) amounted to 550,000 pieces (for comparison: Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were ordered by 100 thousand people in the first 2 days) . Of course, a one-year waiting period for a flagship in itself is not capable of causing such a stir, for example, Apple consistently releases flagships once a year, but sales of the seventh iPhone turned out to be rather weak due to the fact that new iphone for the most part turned out to be the same eggs, only in profile, when compared with the 6th iPhone. Samsung did not repeat the mistakes of a competitor and presented a truly innovative model that cannot be confused with any smartphone on the market today.

Technical samsung specifications Galaxy S8: 5.8" QHD+ (3840x2160) screen, Android 7.0 operating system with proprietary shell Samsung Experience 8.1, 64 GB storage and 4 GB RAM. There is a slot for memory cards up to 265 GB (combined with a slot for a second SIM card). Battery capacity - 3000 mAh. Battery life in talk mode 20 hours, in music listening mode 67 hours. Let's dwell on these characteristics a bit and compare them with last year's Galaxy S7 Edge. The screen diagonal has increased by 0.3 inches, the resolution has also noticeably increased, while the phone itself, paradoxically, has become even a little smaller and lighter. This effect was achieved due to the fact that the screen now occupies more than 80% of the front panel area: the physical buttons have disappeared (they have become touch-sensitive), the Samsung inscription, there are practically no side frames, the vacated space and the screen has occupied. The amount of permanent memory has doubled. However, there is a small step back: the battery capacity has decreased, in connection with this, the battery life has become shorter, while it is about the same as, for example, the seventh iPhone. The processor is a branded Samsung Exynos 8895.

In terms of cameras, Samsung chose to ignore the dual main camera trend in its flagship model, followed by Apple, Huawei, LG and the old fashioned way has a single main camera upgraded from the already excellent S7 camera. The S8 camera received a new 12MP Sony IMX333 sensor with DualPixel technology. The front camera (8 MP) is equipped with a fast lens for perfect selfies even at night, and also supports intelligent autofocus with face detection. By the way, face recognition has become one of the interesting features of the S8: it is no longer necessary to use a fingerprint scanner to unlock the smartphone, it is enough to show your face to the smartphone. There is a third way: scanning the iris (however, this method will be inconvenient for those who wear glasses or contact lenses).

2nd place.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus 64GB

The average price in Russia is 44,540 rubles. The older version of last year's Samsung flagship went on sale on April 21, 2017 and today scored 54% of fives in reviews in Yandex Market and 77% of recommendations for purchase.

Specifications: 6.2-inch Super AMOLED narrow-bezel screen with a resolution of 2960x1440 pixels, Android 7.0 operating system, 64 GB of permanent memory and 4 GB of RAM. Processor Samsung Exynos 8895. There is a slot for a memory card up to 256 GB (combined for a slot for a second SIM card). The main camera is dual 12 MP, front 8 MP. Battery capacity 3500 mAh. Battery life in talk mode 24 hours, in music listening mode 78 hours. There is a fingerprint scanner.

What are the differences between the plus version and the standard Galaxy S8? This is a larger screen (6.2 inches vs. 5.8), while the resolution is lower (2960x1440 vs. 3840x2160), more powerful battery(3500 mAh versus 3000), even with the larger screen, the battery life is noticeably longer, for example, the S8 + will last 4 hours longer in talk mode.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 64GB - Samsung smartphone with the largest screen

Average price in Russia - 54 450 rubles.

The autumn flagship of Samsung went on sale on September 15, 2017 and today scored 70% of fives according to reviews in Yandex Market. The number of recommendations in Yandex Market is 83%.

Samsung made it a rule to release two flagships a year: in the spring, the flagship of the Galaxy S family, and closer to the autumn, a more advanced flagship of the Galaxy Note family with a stylus. However, in the past Galaxy The Note 7 was taken off the market shortly after launch due to battery issues, so new flagship Galaxy Note 8 was actually the first in two years in its class.

Samsung in its new flagship follows the recent trend for large screens, while being one step ahead of the competition. While Apple in the 10th iPhone came to the need to increase the diagonal to 5.8 inches (as in the spring Galaxy S8), the Galaxy Note 8 received a fantastic diagonal of 6.3 inches (the resolution is also impressive: 2960x1440). It has become slightly larger in body size than the Galaxy S8: width 7.5 cm versus 6.8, height 16.2 cm versus 14.9, but due to the competent use of the screen area (it is frameless, like in the Galaxy S8) dimensions and the weight of the glass-metal body is comparable to the classic 5.5-inch models of competitors. For example, Apple iPhone The 5.5-inch 8 Plus is 0.3 cm wider and 7 grams heavier than the Galaxy Note 8, although the latter is 0.4 cm longer. Note 8 received "the most innovative and high-performance screen that the site has ever tested."

If the front of the Galaxy Note 8 differs from the Galaxy S8 only in body size, then when looking at back panel These models are definitely not confused. Samsung in the new flagship followed another trend: for the first time, it used a dual main camera (the Galaxy S8 still had one main camera). The first camera is a wide-angle camera with a focal length of 26mm and f/1.7 aperture. The second is a narrow tele-camera with 52 mm. This roughly corresponds to the field of view of the human eye, so it is also suitable for shooting portraits without perspective distortion. Both modules with a resolution of 12 mp. Both modules have optical stabilization (the iPhone X later repeated the same technique). Now you can shoot smooth videos and sharp photos not only in normal mode, but also with 2x optical zoom. Resource Dxomark called Galaxy Note 8 the best smartphone to zoom (enlarge the image when shooting). For example, according to this indicator, he received 66 points against 58 for the iPhone X. Under the second samsung camera added a "dynamic focus" feature. By turning it on, you can adjust the degree of background blur before and after the shutter is released. At the same time, the smartphone saves photos from both cameras. Frontal Galaxy camera Note 8 in terms of aperture as the main one - f / 1.7, resolution 8 megapixels.

Now about the stylus that comes with the kit and distinguishes the Galaxy Note 8 from other flagships. What is it for? Draw, write down reminders, make notes on the photo. You don't even need to unlock your screen to write and edit notes. In addition, by pressing the stylus, you can translate words in a foreign text. Of course, most people will rarely need a stylus, but for creative people, it will be a real find.

Galaxy Note 8 has 64 GB of internal memory, as well as support external card memory up to 256 GB (iPhone X does not support memory cards), but you have to choose what to insert into the tray: a second SIM card or a memory card. The octa-core Samsung Exynos 9 8895 processor, coupled with 6 GB of RAM, makes the Note 8 the second fastest Android smartphone in the world (on the first OnePlus 5).

After the failure of the Galaxy Note 7 batteries in the new flagship, Samsung decided not to experiment in this component and supplied the phone with a standard 3300 mAh battery, which allows the Note 8 to work 22 hours of talk time and 74 hours of music listening. Have a function fast charging. Half an hour at the outlet, and the battery will last for 3-4 hours. Charging from 0 to 100% will take 1 hour 41 minutes.

There are three types of unlock: the usual fingerprint scanner, face scan and iris scan. At the same time, the fingerprint scanner located on the rear panel will be more convenient for men, because. women will not be too comfortable to reach him because of the size of the case.

This model ranks first in .

The 7th generation of Samsung's flagship smartphones has virtually no visual differences compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S6. But the hardware stuffing and functionality give it a significant breakthrough forward.

Stylish design

The body of the smartphone is made of durable 3D glass, which shimmers beautifully in the light. The main difference from its predecessor lies in the presence of dust and moisture protection according to the IP68 standard - the phone can be immersed to a depth of 1.5 m for half an hour. At the same time, it pleases that there are no plugs on the case.

Big Pixels

The resolution of the main smartphone camera module is 12 MP and as of the beginning of 2016, it has practically no equal in terms of quality and detail of images. Samsung decided not to have a megapixel race and built a sensor with large physical pixels that can better absorb light. Paired with a maximum aperture of f/1.7 and DualPixel focusing technology, focusing is instantaneous even in poor lighting conditions. The front camera has a 5-megapixel resolution and a maximum aperture of f / 1.7, and is additionally equipped with a selfie flash.

"Iron"

The hardware "stuffing" of the smartphone is presented powerful processor Exynos 8890 (4 cores at 2.3 GHz and 4 more at 1.6 GHz) and 4 GB of RAM, only half of which is available to the user. There is also a second modification, the heart of which is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. In the AnTuTu benchmark, the gadget gives a stunning result of more than 120 thousand points - with such an assessment, you can not worry about launching any applications for another couple of years ahead. And in order for the smartphone not to warm up, it has a cooling system on heat pipes.

Energy efficiency

An interesting "feature" of the South Korean flagship is the ability to output to a locked clock display. Moreover, SuperAMOLED-matrix, which is characterized by low power consumption, provides an average battery consumption of 1% per hour.
