The transition to Android for Vertu was somewhat painful, the first Vertu Ti model had to be launched in a series in a very short time, which could not but affect many minor flaws, outdated android versions and product specifications. AT this moment Vertu's lineup is divided into three lines - Signature (classic push-button devices), Signature Touch ( touch models), as well as Constellation (also touch devices on Android). In the next few years, the emergence of new models outside of these lines, although possible, is unlikely. We are accustomed to Vertu showing one device in each line during the year, so we can expect the updated Constellation 2014/2015 to appear in the fall, while the Signature Touch will be updated only in the summer of 2015. Considering that these are luxury devices, you should not expect a variety of models - it is not needed here. For example, Vertu Ti does not disappear from the market at all, it will be sold as long as there is demand, but it is present, although it cannot be called crazy.

It is curious that in modern Vertu there is a clear gender division. Constellation is a women's model, although it suits men to some extent and in some colors, but with a number of reservations. Model Ti with exactly the same reservations could be used by women, although it is male. The released Signature Touch is unambiguously masculine, they even talk about it in the official Vertu press release - that is, a clear pair for Constellation. This machine is for him, and the Constellation is for her. It is possible that due to this positioning, the price of this model starts from 7,900 euros and goes up to 16,500 euros. About the same we saw for Ti, the price level is identical.

It's interesting how Vertu has been able to give their brand extra shine without getting involved in dubious ventures. In the world of luxury, the Vertu brand already has a status, and therefore, by definition, no other brands can be on the phone case. The Vertu brand will give any other brand a weight that is not needed at all. But there is also a task to strengthen our own brand, for this there are many ways, one of which is cooperation with other strong brands in the field of technology.

Several stories have been created especially for the Vertu Signature Touch. The first is cooperation with Bang & Olufsen in the field of sound, that is, for consumers of devices from Vertu, B & O sound is not at all far away, it is associated with high-quality sound. Let me remind you that many premium cars are equipped with acoustics from B&O, which makes the use of this brand very interesting for Vertu.

The second story is completely ingenious - the Signature Touch has a Hasselblad-certified camera. This professional camera maker is famous for having a camera on the moon, many "affordable" models are expensive conversions of Sony's stock cameras, and full-frame cameras are very, very expensive and are used in professional studio shooting. That is, the brand is perceived as a kind of luxury in photography.

When I say that the camera is Hasselblad certified, that's exactly what it is. This is not a camera created by Hasselblad, but rather a virtual certificate. Technically, there is still the same matrix from Sony that we saw in the Constellation.

The story that surrounds the Signature Touch model for the target audience will play its part. These are understandable premium brands that have become integral part offers from Vertu. As a cherry, we can say that the Concierge service is returning with Signature Touch, and with a personal, dedicated manager. Only one person will work with you. To the full extent, this is a luxury offer that has no analogues. Also for the first time, Vertu comes out on the latest version of Android, has good technical characteristics, which makes this device quite applicable in Everyday life. The model turned out to be iconic to some extent, although in terms of design it is very close to the Constellation, since it is difficult to come up with something new around the big screen.

At the moment, we can say that the Signature Touch is one of the most interesting offers on the luxury handset market, and it will also become the most widespread. There are all the prerequisites for this, although it is not necessary to talk about the prevalence and wide availability of devices in this price group. This is not a product that is sold in tens of thousands, but not piece sales, although the craftsmen create each device by hand.

It is curious that when using this model, I came across puzzled looks from people who no longer recognized Vertu. The brand has lost its popularity, new models do not receive much advertising support, as a result, the target audience does not identify them at first sight. And these are people who already had previous models from Vertu, which makes the situation even more ridiculous. Here you can interpret this observation in two ways - on the one hand, this is a fat minus for those who are looking for a luxury solution, the price of which is known to others, with the new Signature Touch it will just be an awareness of an expensive device. On the other hand, there is a huge room for improvement and development for the company. In any case, there is simply no direct alternative to this device, it outperforms any device both in terms of materials and in terms of the charge of the image component.

Design, dimensions, controls

The first thing that catches your eye is the changed quality of the leather - it has become smooth, somewhat tougher than in Constellation - it turned out that the German manufactory was changed to Italian. Leather is more expensive, but more practical, it does not rub off as much as on Constellation, there are practically no traces of hands. My impression is that leather inserts are more appropriate and practical in the Signature Touch. Another thing is that at first acquaintance, the soft dressing of the leather on the Constellation will make a greater impression, but it is less practical. For several weeks of using the phone, when it was lying on the dashboard of the car, was with coins and keys, no scratches appeared on the skin. Moreover, in the dark version, even spilled liquids or rain did not affect its quality in any way, exactly the same as on the first day. No wonder they changed the supplier, the new one turned out to be an order of magnitude more practical.

Let's dwell a little on the materials of the body. The main material is titanium (Grade5), which was the same on previous models. Sapphire glass covers the screen, there is a ruby button, ceramic inserts - in a word, everything is as usual with Vertu.

On the left side is a paired volume rocker, right there is a 3.5 mm jack for headphones or a headset. On the right side there is a dedicated key for launching applications from Vertu, as well as an on/off button. I really liked that they abandoned the SIM card slot in the retractable tray, there is a hinged cover on the back surface, under it there is a microSIM card slot (an adapter for nanoSIM is included). To change the SIM-card, you do not have to make any effort, everything is very easy and simple.

MicroUSB connector on the end, which is quite convenient. Of the unusual things, it is worth noting the built-in wireless charging Qi standard, separately it will be possible to purchase such a desktop Charger.

There are no complaints about the build quality of the model, everything is at the Vertu level - that is, excellent. There is a front camera with a resolution of 2.1 megapixels, as well as a light sensor. There are no mechanical keys under the screen.

Display

Vertu is proud to be the first device with a 4.7-inch Full HD display at 473 dpi. This is a pretty good matrix, it displays colors with high quality, has a margin of brightness, in the sun the screen, just like in the Constellation, fades and becomes less readable. In general, we can say that this device is quite comfortable for everyday use, but you should not expect it to surpass the 5-inch flagships from other manufacturers. Above average, but by no means the best matrix possible.

Battery

The phone is lithium ion battery 2275 mAh (1800 mAh in Constellation). According to the manufacturer, it can work up to 15 hours of talk time (3G), up to 380 hours of standby time. Full charging time of the device is about 2.5 hours

It's a pity, but the operating time becomes a weak point for the device, it works for 6-8 hours with active use, which is typical for models based on the same chipset that were released about a year and a half ago. Weak software optimization, rather high heating during operation and inefficient heat dissipation - all together creates the prerequisites for charging the device twice a day. With a minimum number of conversations with a total duration of up to 20 minutes, with no other activities, the phone can survive until the evening. But this is an almost unbelievable scenario for its use, rather people will talk, and actively, which means constantly charging it. Considering that the case is non-separable, and the number of charge / discharge cycles is limited, we can assume that after 3-4 months the device's operating time will be reduced by another 10-15 percent. Which makes the overall picture even sadder. From the point of view of operating time, this device completely loses to mass models, and this is a very serious minus. I don't know what to add here.

Camera

The camera module is exactly the same as the Constellation, a 13-megapixel camera from Sony (Exmor), but certified by Hasselblad. Technically, this does nothing, consider it a marketing ploy. You can see the quality of photos and videos below - it is inferior to the flagships of other companies, but in general, slightly above average.

Hardware platform, memory, performance

The phone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, it is a quad-core processor with a maximum clock frequency up to 2.3 GHz. RAM 2 GB. Built-in memory 64 GB. The lack of memory cards can be considered a minus, on the other hand, this is a standard approach for this segment.

The performance of this solution is excellent, there are no complaints. The interface is fast and responsive. In terms of being able to run any application, you won't experience any problems.

But first, a brief history of the brand. Once upon a time, Vertu was perceived by everyone as such an expensive Nokia, although even initially it was a British company based in Hampshire. But for a while, Vertu really was a subsidiary of Nokia - from 1998 to 2012. Today, Vertu has different owners, and the lineup has changed slightly.

In particular, in addition to the only modern push-button model, Vertu also has two Android smartphones. And today we will just talk about the newest model - Vertu Signature Touch.

Appearance

Vertu phones have always looked great, but it's not just about good design. Outside, there are no “ordinary” materials here at all. If you see a metal, it means that it is, at a minimum, titanium, and as a maximum, gold or platinum. If leather means not just leather (no leatherette and "plastic under the skin"), but premium - calf, at least, or even from an alligator.

However, it seemed to us that the sound of a standard headset is even slightly better. However, both those and those headphones allow you to clearly hear even the smallest nuances, and you can tweak the taste with an equalizer. The latter, however, can be difficult for a "regular" user - after all, there is not even any branded player application in the smartphone, only Google Music (far from the best choice to the role of a standard offline player, in our opinion).

Screen

The Vertu Signature Touch has a 5.2-inch Full-HD TFT IPS display. The most remarkable thing about the screen is the sapphire crystal, which is almost impossible to scratch. It's been rumored for a long time that Apple wants to make such glass for the iPhone, but it's very expensive to grow a sapphire that big. How much an iPhone would cost in this case is hard to imagine, but for Vertu customers high price- no problem.

Software and Interface

Perhaps the most dubious thing in the Vertu Signature Touch is Android. First, no matter what marketers say, but especially during a crisis from expensive phones I prefer iPhone. Not only because there is a bullseye on the case, but also because the iOS interface itself is more user-friendly: without unnecessary features, but with everything you need at your fingertips.

Well, even more so if we are talking about comparing iOS with the classic, as they say, “naked” Android. De facto, this is exactly what Vertu Signature Touch works on. Of course, you can find some redrawn icons and branded wallpapers there, but in general, this is exactly standard android 5.1.1, which we have seen more than once in smartphones for 10-15 thousand rubles. And the last one is the most annoying.

Some sense of disharmony arises when you press the power button on an incredibly stylish and beautiful smartphone made of titanium and leather for 546 thousand rubles, and you see the most common Android there.

The reader, of course, can accuse us of being biased towards this OS. But in this case, it's not the OS, but the interface. See how the same Android is "prepared" by HTC, Huawei, even Lenovo! More convenient: keyboards, menus, lock systems, etc. - this is what distinguishes a well-cooked Android from a "raw" one with redrawn icons.

Above, we promised to tell from what, in addition to appearance, the price of Vertu consists, and this paragraph should dot the i's. Of course, when you buy a phone for half a million or even more, the approach to you as a buyer should be different than in the salons of some Euroset.

Therefore, first of all, managers spend as much time for each potential buyer in Vertu stores as he needs. Half a day means half a day. All day means all day. In the salon, they can tell you about the features of working with Android, help you set up all possible Accounts, install all the applications that the client only wishes.

But that's not all. Vertu is famous for its Consierge service (Concierge) - and this is worth talking about in more detail.

Imagine that you have a personal assistant ready to answer any questions. Of course, if the solution of the issue requires any costs, you pay them, the very essence of the service is in solving problems.

In the salon they told me one interesting story about this service - one client with his companion went to rest on a desert island: he flew somewhere far away, then they sailed on a yacht. Upon arrival, it turned out that the client, a heavy smoker, had run out of cigarettes. He tried to contact the hotel on the mainland, the yacht service companies, but they all refused to help - it was too far to sail.

And then the client remembered his Vertu phone and the Concierge service. I called there and... cigarettes were thrown to him from a drone, guided by GPS coordinates. It is difficult, of course, to imagine how much such a service cost - one Vertu smartphone or two, but money is hardly a problem for the hero of this story. Another thing is interesting - an employee of the Concierge service was able to solve such a seemingly insoluble problem.

So, such trifles as picking up and booking a hotel or plane tickets - you can not mention. And, of course, all this is free - well, except, in fact, buying a ticket and paying for a reservation, if it is required.

Of course, during our testing there were no such colorful stories - we are not multimillionaires. So we asked the Concierge to find us some unusual items.

Concierge Job

True, the disc with the game The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword was not found in Moscow (which is not there, that is not there). Offered only options with Avito or eBay. But with Chicco children's goods, the Concierge was more successful - they told us about the situation with these stores, listed where their products are sold in Moscow, and sent addresses for two specific toys - where they are available and at what price. Stealing a Vertu is simply pointless, unless the goal is to smelt the titanium, pick out the ruby and put the skin on some accessory. The smartphone is tracked and blocked anywhere on the Earth by IMEI - so, you can reset and reflash it at least a hundred times, you can only sell a “brick”. If someone buys such a “brick” (there were such cases, that is, this is not a theory), then they will most likely turn to the Vertu service, where everything will be revealed - when and from whom the smartphone was stolen. Well, there, and not far from the capture of the thief.

Hardware and Performance

The hardware of the Vertu Signature Touch is very powerful. Infrequently in a smartphone on Android you will meet, for example, 4 GB random access memory. True, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor makes us feel ambivalent. On the one hand, it is really very fast - on the Signature Touch, nothing slowed down at all, no matter what we launched.

Camera

But the camera, unfortunately, in Vertu Signature Touch is far from being so outstanding. Yes, it generally has good (or, more precisely, correct) color reproduction, but sharpness, detail, dynamic range - all this greatly loses to both top-end camera phones and mid-range phones like Lenovo Vibe Shot approaching them.

This is perhaps the most disturbing moment. What prevented to put in a smartphone the best camera? Most likely, the manufacturer's lack of experience in writing the software part. Indeed, it is not enough to have a good photosensor (matrix), it is much more important to be able to process information from it correctly.

Total

The average Moscow manager could buy a Vertu Signature Touch smartphone if he puts aside his entire salary for a year. Therefore, the average Moscow managers do not go with Vertu. Objectively, Vertu is not just expensive, but very expensive, the luxury segment. However, these are not "show-offs", but also quality (including assembly and good materials) and design and service.

In Russia, Vertu Signature Touch costs 546,000 rubles - and this, by the way, is cheaper than in Europe, where you have to pay 8,400 euros for it. This is almost one and a half times more expensive even at the current exchange rate. (By the way, the most affordable phone from Vertu is also an Android smartphone, Vertu Aster for 338,000 rubles).

The smartphone impresses with its hardware and software capabilities (with the exception of the camera), but you still can’t help but notice the manufacturer’s inexperience in the Android market: the lack of a proprietary interface, the use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 “camping electric stove”, the lack of a decent music player in the list of preinstalled programs.

Not that these are the little things for which a person who is going to buy himself the latest Vertu will refuse to buy. I just want everything to be perfect in a smartphone for half a million rubles.
