Sony Xperia XA review – Beautiful and affordable smartphone from Sony. Sony Xperia XA review: no laughing Sony xa mobile phone

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - device position sensor in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatic change orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer, it can be controlled by various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures the angles of rotation relative to a fixed coordinate system. Able to measure rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. The gyroscope together with the accelerometer allows you to determine the position of the device in space with high accuracy. In devices that use only accelerometers, measurement accuracy is lower, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- sensor, thanks to which the optimal values of brightness and contrast are set for given level illumination. The presence of the sensor allows you to increase the operating time of the device from the battery.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to the face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental pressing. The presence of the sensor allows you to increase the operating time of the device from the battery.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the Earth's magnetic poles. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for orientation in the area.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for accurate measurement of atmospheric pressure. Is a part GPS systems, allows you to determine the height above sea level and speed up positioning.
touch ID- Fingerprint identification sensor.

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System - global positioning system) - satellite system navigation that measures distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on the Earth. The system was developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine the location by measuring the distances to the object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated from the signal propagation delay time from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the GPS receiver antenna.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The principle of measurement is similar to the American system GPS navigation. GLONASS is intended for operational navigation and time support for ground, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital movement do not have resonance (synchronism) with the Earth's rotation, which provides them with greater stability.

For a long time now, Sony's mobile division has received a large number of criticism due to: unfounded high price, belated design change, not the most better optimization software, in particular software for cameras. And that's just what immediately comes to mind. Were the Japanese able to fix all the shortcomings in the new line?

Equipment

Smartphone Sony Xperia XA1 came to the review in a simplified version. Inside, I found only the smartphone itself, a cable with a Type-C connector for charging, and a set of instructions. Remembering my previous one, I mentally prepared myself for the fact that again I would not understand anything and would have to read tons of text in the manual.

In the commercial version, of course, there is a power supply with technology support. fast charging(MediaTek PumpExpress 2.0). Unfortunately, I can't tell you the exact parameters of the power adapter or the charging speed.

Design

I thought that Sony would not be able to please me with anything in terms of the appearance of a smartphone, but I was deeply mistaken. continues the tradition of even rectangular shapes with sharp corners. And you know, I still prefer just such a form factor than a smartphone made in the form of soap.

My previous device was , which I really liked for its bright performance and jy was also made in the form of a brick. Personally, it is more pleasant and comfortable for me to hold just such a smartphone.

Xiaomi Mi 5S (5.15'')

Thanks to the almost complete absence of side frames, the width of the Xperia XA1 is only 67 mm! With one hand, it turns out to completely clasp the smartphone so that fingers touch without problems. Accordingly, you can reach the opposite side of the screen with your finger.

On the front side is a 5-inch display. Above it there is a front camera, an LED indicator for notifications, a light sensor and an earpiece, and below the display there is only a lone microphone for conversations.

Initially, when I first looked at the Sony Xperia XA1, I thought that stereo speakers were installed on the front side, it was very similar to this. After all, there is enough free space. The top and bottom bezels “eat up” as much as 36 mm from the total length of the smartphone, which is 145 mm.

There are also no extra design elements on the back side, except for the NFC tag emblem. What for? For what? As if Sony is saying to everyone: “Hey, look, our new smartphone has NFC support!”. Well, of course, it would not have been here at a price of over $350.

Although, there is no fingerprint scanner here and the body is made entirely of plastic…

But I can’t say that I treat plastic with some distrust. Every material has its pros and cons. The main advantage of this is the weight. The smartphone is unrealistically light.

The Xperia XA1 is a pleasure to hold in your hands. At the same time, nothing slips and does not fly out of the hands.

In addition to the NFC tag emblem, there is a camera, a single-color flash and a brand name on the back side.

There are no buttons on the left side, there is only a slot for a SIM card and a memory card. At the same time, the slot is not combined, just one plug for two ports.

There are three buttons on the right side: a volume rocker, a round power button, and at the very bottom a shutter / camera button. Just a couple of sentences ο the last. For lefties, it's just the perfect button for taking selfies. The little finger lies exactly on the point where this key is located.

On the top end there is a 3.5 mm headphone port, and on the bottom there is a Type-C input and a multimedia speaker. The sound is average, wheezing begins to appear at maximum volume.

By the way, Sony offers 4 color options for the smartphone: white, black, gold and pink.

Generally, external Sony view Xperia XA1 gave me a lot of pleasant impressions, although a similar design has not changed for many years Japanese company. It will be interesting to look at their bezel-less smartphone option in the future.

Display

The smartphone has a 5-inch IPS-matrix with HD resolution. Some may think that such a resolution is no longer enough in 2017. And I will say that the quality of the display itself plays a big role so that the colors do not fade when you look at different angles. And this is exactly ο Xperia XA1. In addition, individual pixels on the screen are not distinguishable.

  • 5 inch IPS screen
  • resolution 1280 x 720 pixels
  • 294 dpi

The display itself is of decent quality. The picture is not inverted at large viewing angles, only blacks can take on a slightly purple tone. With the stock color correction settings, there is a clear shift towards warm shades. White color with slight yellowness.

For fans of AMOLED, there are settings that allow you to make a similar picture typical of these displays. With a little care in blue and cold tones.

There is also an oleophobic coating, which really pleased. The finger glides across the screen very easily, any stains are removed at once. It is enough just to spend a couple of times on jeans or a rag (which no one ever wears with them). By the way, the display is covered protective glass Corning Gorilla glass. Which generation is not specified.

  • support for one or two SIM-cards (2 Nano)
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, FM radio

The most important question in terms of performance: how does the processor from MediaTek perform? Branded shell from Sony allows the smartphone to work smartly in everyday applications. During operation, lags or friezes of the system do not appear.

But at the same time, there is a decent heating of the processor. Due to the plastic case, the smartphone instantly becomes warm. As a result, it turns out that the Sony Xperia XA1 is always warm in the hands.

2D games are all comfortable, with 3D it's already harder. I reviewed with the same processor, but 6 GB was installed there random access memory. If my memory serves me right, then the games were running on this smartphone more quickly and smoothly than on the device from Sony. But in games like: Asphalt 8, N.O.V.A. 3, GTA: San Andreas, Modern Combat 5, Mortal Kombat X - I didn't get much discomfort. Plus, we must remember that a display with HD resolution is installed here, which helps to reduce the load on the graphics chip in any case. But the FPS in World of Tank Blitz tossed from side to side. At high settings, the smartphone produced from wild friezes in the midst of a battle to 45-50 frames per second in a calm environment.

Also, when checking in CPU-Z, I saw that not a single processor core goes to sleep. In fact, even at idle, the smartphone uses all 8 cores, albeit with different frequencies.

The multi-touch test showed support for only 4 touches. Is this normal? In a device of this class and at this price, you expect the standard 10 touches. After all, more is better. And nothing else!

Another big difference from flagship smartphones from Sony that the Xperia XA1 lacks moisture protection at all.

Photo and video

Front-camera represented by an 8-megapixel Sony IMX219 sensor with f / 2.0 aperture. It seems that even in low light, good pictures should be obtained. Especially when the manufacturer calls his smartphone a camera phone. In practice, the possibility of a selfie camera is a little frustrating, because the expectations were very high.

There is a clear lack of detail on the face. The background does not want to blur at all. Although, the camera instantly determines the person in the frame and tries to make the most successful frame.

Even with good light it's hard to get a detailed and not blurry picture. Girls definitely won't like it! Video writes in 1080p / 30 frames, there is no stabilization.

The main camera is a Sony IMX300 sensor with 23 megapixels. I will immediately answer the question “Is there any sense in as much as 23 megapixels in the camera?”. Almost none!

Two times fewer pixels are better, but adequate autofocus, flash, stabilization for both photos and videos. There is none of this.

From the examples, everything is clear at once: although there is optics with a high aperture ratio, this does not save from strong light and noise in any way. automatic mode. In general, I propose to forget about it and take pictures with manual settings.

Autofocus in a smartphone is very poor. The easiest and most ordinary shot can be taken on the second or third attempt. However, I cannot take many pictures in a couple of seconds. The device needs to think for a while after shooting to display the frame in the gallery.

The flash fires synchronously with the camera shutter only once. I don’t remember this at all in my latest smartphone reviews.

Good flash performance

Poor flash performance

At the same time, correctly setting the settings in manual mode, you can get extremely pleasing to the eye pictures. For example, a macro photo with high level detail in the foreground and very natural bokeh in the background.

The maximum quality for video recording is 1080p / 30 frames. And this is in a smartphone for 22 thousand rubles. At the same time, the video itself turns out to be twitchy, the clarity in the frames is not enough, there is no stabilization. The light is generally regulated by jerks.

Battery life

The biggest problem with the Sony Xperia XA1 is battery life.

The smartphone has a battery of only 2300 mAh, which is simply unacceptably small for 2017. Now even in the most budget options larger batteries cost.

An hour of playing ordinary toys eats up a quarter of the charge, surfing + music takes about the same amount from the battery. If you do not use low power modes, then the smartphone will never live from morning to night. At best, hours until 6 pm. This smartphone is definitely not for long trips.

For 118 minutes of walking, when I went out to take street photos, while listening to music and using 4G Internet, and the display brightness was turned to the maximum level, the device lost 60% of the charge.

Sony, as always, has two proprietary power modes:

  1. Stamina - without tangible losses, it allows you to extend the life of your smartphone for a couple of hours, applications begin to be unloaded much faster from memory.
  2. Ultra Stamina - the smartphone turns into almost an ordinary dialer without much functionality. This allows you to add a couple more hours of work.

Outcome

Smartphone Sony Xperia XA1 turned out to be very ambiguous. Externally, the device looks cheerful, it is beautiful, elegant and does not feel like a budget device at all. But! As soon as you start to get acquainted with the technical characteristics, it becomes sad.

The main disadvantages include:

  • no fingerprint scanner
  • small battery capacity
  • weak software at the cameras
  • lack of stereo speakers, although there is styling for them
  • mini-problems with incomprehensible operation of the cores and the number of supported touch points

In principle, Sony Xperia XA1 will appeal to those who come to communication stores or large electrical stores to buy a phone. I'm talking about those who are poorly versed in modern technologies and trends and cannot adequately correlate price / quality parameters.

Knowledgeable people are well aware that there are much more pleasant options for an approximate cost. For example, and

Inexpensive smartphone from Sony (22,990 rubles for the Dual version) with an interesting design, LTE, two separate slots for SIM-cards, a slot for a memory card - good gadget for their money…

Design, construction

The looks of the device are a delight, which is why the Sony Xperia XA is sure to gain some popularity this summer, the relatively small and inexpensive smartphone comes at just the right time in the summer when many people want something compact to fit into the pockets of their shorts. Girls will also like the gadget, the colors are "golden lime" and " pink gold"are very relevant now, and thanks to Apple - pink, new black and new gray for gadgets, it is simply impossible not to release a device of this color now. In our first glance, there was just such an apparatus.

Another smartphone reminded me of Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, there is something in common in the size and shape of the case.

Although the price is, of course, not Ray at all, the Sony Xperia XA is already inexpensive at the start and fills a very important niche now, a sort of “budget plus segment” - basic characteristics, but good design. Therefore, communication with a smartphone is like walking through a minefield, looking for where the savings are, and you find.

Well, here, take the materials. The back cover is made of plastic, the fingers do not slip, but the scratches are clearly visible, accidentally put it in the pocket with the keys, and hello, just a few at the bottom. Inserts on the ends are made of metal, under the cap - full-fledged two slots for nanoSIM and one slot for microSD - no need to cut anything and go for some tricks, it's nice. The familiar cool button on the right, but there is no fingerprint sensor, the volume rocker could be made longer - but there is a camera button.

The speaker at the bottom is loud in a quiet room, but somewhere on the street you can miss a call, the microUSB connector is without plugs, on the back there is an NFC area, a flash and a camera. There is no protection from water, nor from dust, so be careful on the beaches. There is a 3.5 mm jack on the top end, so take care of the device in the rain, drops can easily get inside during a call.

The dimensions of the device are 143.6 x 66.8 x 7.9 mm. So why is design good? As you know, this is always a very subjective question, some like a thing, some don't, but I can try to explain why people like XA. Firstly, there is a frameless screen and glass with rounded ends, for many this is already a kind of marker - something new, interesting. Secondly, the smartphone has a minimum of embellishments and Sony applications- but the wallpaper and icons are well chosen. Thirdly, it seems like a budget device, but here you have Xperia Care, and Sony Xperia Store, and Xperia Lounge - a person feels care and some kind of exclusivity from the first minutes. It's funny to you, but are there such services in other smartphones in this price category? Then, here you can really get a discount on a speaker or accessories, it’s worth looking into the Lounge. I also tried the Xperia to Xperia transfer service, it does not work very well with applications, not all were installed, but dragging photos, videos and contacts helps.

Another thing I noticed is that the Sony Xperia XA is completely flat! The camera does not protrude here, the buttons do not protrude (only on the side), and therefore it is convenient to use it, it is convenient to stuff it in and take it out of your pocket, it is convenient to hold it in your hand during a conversation - for a rough back the finger clings, does not slip off. It also seems to be a trifle, but you know, it is from the little things that the impression of a thing is formed.

The Sony Xperia XA has a beautiful design, there are no questions at all, and this is a big plus for the device among other gadgets in this price category.

Display

As soon as I took off the film, I noticed that the glass is without an oleophobic coating, the finger stumbles, it is most convenient to perform some operations by pressing a nail or even a stylus against the screen. Keep in mind that films or glasses for XA are still curved, that is, they cover the front, leave the ends open, it looks terrible, it’s better not to buy anything than to buy this. And keep in mind one more thing, the lack of an oleophobic coating affects not only when simply moving through the menu, but also when typing from keyboards that support “swipe”, you can’t quickly move your finger. The difference with any smartphone where there is coverage is obvious - even if it's seen types of iPhone 6S Plus, where it is already almost erased and prints appear instantly. Fingerprints on the Sony Xperia XA are also clearly visible both in front and behind, so the best and most accurate device will look white, gold or pink.

The diagonal of the IPS display is 5 inches, the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, the rounded ends have a positive effect on the impression - the light indicator on top seems to be floating in the air, the display seems to have no frames, formally they still exist, albeit almost imperceptible. I guess many will rush to buy Sony Xperia XA, licking their lips on samsung galaxy S7 Edge, of course, there are more functions, completely different characteristics, but the glass is also rounded! "So it's almost the same!" - I bring here consumer thoughts overheard in the store aloud. And funny, and sad, and the price pushes to buy. Of course, it's not the same at all - I would advise you to try to work with the screen on samples in salons before buying.

So, the screen characteristics are not the best, but the display size is small, so in normal use, the HD resolution is not striking. Although, if you look at the clock, the icons ... In general, it's better not to peer anywhere and just use the device. Although the screen fades when viewed from the side.

I don’t know if this is Sony’s design work or a common thing for Android, but the calendar has very funny pictures for each month, it’s cool and intelligently drawn. Your design at music player, its own wallpapers, themes, several applications, but, like the Z5 series, a course is taken here to reduce third-party software - few utilities, pure Android, a minimum of "improvers", many people like it.

I believe that an oleophobic coating in 2016 is a must for a device at any price point.

Modifications and performance

Let me remind you that the two main modifications, XA (F3111) and XA Dual (F3112), use nanoSIM, in the version with two SIM cards you can use two cards and a microSD memory card without dancing with a tambourine, separate slots. I personally like the Dual-version more, and the difference in price is small.

operating room android system 6.0, MediaTek Helio P10 processor, Mali t860 is responsible for the graphics, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory - it's better to count on microSD card. Sony doesn't forget to put in a radio, which some people really like. Of the music formats, MP3, 3GPP, MP4, SMF, WAV, OTA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, ASF are supported by default. Bluetooth 4.1 profile, Wi-Fi MIMO, NFC,

LTE is supported, with MegaFon everything worked as expected.

Working hours

The battery capacity is 2300 mAh, among the features it claims to work for two days, the Sony Xperia XA has the familiar STAMINA and Ultra STAMINA modes, the first disables only some features (GPS, vibration, regular synchronization is turned off, etc.), the second just cuts connection to the network in all ways, phone, SMS and a number of the most desired programs, although I would argue with some. For example, you can definitely do without a radio. Both functions can be enabled independently, and to achieve two days of operation, you will have to do this, in simple mode it does not work. The smartphone works for a day with a normal load, with enabled Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, if you want more - learn how to use regular energy-saving functions, reduce the backlight. You yourself know everything.

The kit comes with a conventional charger, using the UCH12 power supply, you can enjoy the benefits of fast charging - 10 minutes of connecting to the network, 5.5 hours of work. Convenient if you are somewhere in the city, but then you will have to fork out for UCH12. Quick Charge 3.0 (Class A) from Qualcomm and Pump Express + 2.0 from MediaTek are supported, charging works not only with X, XA, but also with the Z5, Z3 series. The price of the charger in Russia is still unknown.

cameras

Front camera 8 MP, main 13 MP Sony Exmor RS, pulsed LED flash. There is support for HDR, hybrid autofocus, some features like five times Clear Image zoom came here from the Sony Xperia Z5 - but it's better to do without zooming. It is not clear why the device does not remember the set parameters, let's say I chose manual settings, maximum resolution, took a few pictures, went to the menu, then I start the camera again, and there again the auto mode. And you constantly have to go into the settings, switch between 13 MP and square frames and 9 MP and pictures with a normal aspect ratio. In general, this has been the case in Sony for a long time - and yet, if you start the camera from the button, here, too, the settings cannot be changed at will.

The video comes out like this.

Front camera 8 MP, wide-angle, with autofocus, several people can fit in the frame.

In the additional menu, you can set various applications for the camera, but be aware that this is not a flagship and some add-ons will be slow.

I liked the speed of autofocus and camera launch.

conclusions

Prices are the same, 21,990 rubles for the version with one SIM card, 22,990 rubles for DualSIM, not bad.

The vibration is felt in your pocket, the reception quality seemed worse to me than with the same SIM card in the iPhone 6S Plus, but, of course, the devices cannot be compared, different prices, different worlds.

A simple question, is it possible to live with the Sony Xperia XA after the flagship expensive devices? Eh, if they added an oleophobic coating, then there would be no questions at all - this is my biggest claim to the company. A smartphone named XA is beautiful, smart, the camera is not bad, “empty” Android will appeal to those who are used to setting everything up themselves. It's good that the DualSIM version has two slots, and it's good that they didn't forget about the memory card slot. I advise owners to immediately find a suitable film or glass, it will come in handy and Charger UCH12.

Answering the question above - it is quite possible to live with XA.

To be honest, I did not expect that the budget segment could please me so much. Especially after reading the negative reviews, I mentally prepared for the fact that I would have to suffer (although I am skeptical of such opinions, preferring to get acquainted with the object of interest to me from my own experience). So. After spending more than two months with the phone, I summarize. The phone is comfortable, fits perfectly in the hand, at first there is no desire to let go of it. I haven't experienced any problems with the battery. Having initially optimized the operation of the device, using it only for its intended purpose and not assigning super-tasks, I calmly, without being nervous, walked around with the phone all day, not risking being without a connection by 17.00. From morning to evening + 20 percent remained. I think that for modern phones this is a common result. As for performance. The phone does not hang, does not tupit. The camera works well. I am satisfied.

A lot of nerves spent with this phone. Was the first experience with Sony. Didn't expect this at all. Huge disappointment.

Advantages

Refined exterior design. Really beautiful model.

Flaws

The most egregious drawback is that this phone may not always ring (no matter what mobile operator). The antenna is full, but the call does not go - there are no beeps. People can't get through either. The phone starts freezing almost immediately after purchase. Charging lasts a maximum of 3 hours. The camera is terrible. uncomfortable phone book. Pre-installed music and video players are absolutely inoperable. Sometimes the screen goes blank when you put the phone on a table or other surface. Incredibly uncomfortable gallery. The keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot does not always work. Non-removable battery. This is so, offhand. The device is absolutely identical to androids for 10-13 thousand, but its price is incredibly high.

Pridorogin Roman 2017-02-14

Advantages

Nimble. Not dull, the screen is good

Flaws

The camera is not very good (in the dark or poor lighting it is better not to get it), the battery lasts for a day with the Internet turned on. Everything breaks off around the body.

Marko Artyom 2017-02-11

I took z3 as a replacement, of course it’s inferior in terms of battery, but after all the firmware for a day of active use it’s enough without using the stamina mode (turns on at 25 percent) I chose between z5 and X, the appearance outweighed the scales, elegant framelessness, omni front screen coverage . Definitely worth the money, in the case it loses all its beauty. The second month I wear without covers, with careful use I did not notice a single scratch. In terms of speed, it is slightly inferior to z3, apparently due to the RAM, but this is almost not noticeable. Do not carry with keys and change in your pocket, do not put on rough surfaces and you will be happy. The camera is an order of magnitude cooler than the z3, both rear and front, the pictures are clear, sharp, the white balance is adequately maintained. The screen is bright, juicy, colors are saturated. I advise you to subscribe to updates on the sony website and update through the computer, because. latest versions Firmware through the settings does not see. I recommend the model.

Stylish design, pleasant and comfortable to hold in your hand, bright and rich screen, fast in operation - does not slow down, decent cameras with a bunch of all sorts of settings, powerful flashlight.

Minuses

It discharges quickly, sooo delicate plastic on the back, low volume in the headphones, lack of a fingerprint scanner.

Review

I read a lot of reviews and watched reviews about this smartphone, and now, I decided to buy it. The first minus showed itself in the literal sense "on the spot" - plastic back cover turned out to be so not resistant to scratches that they appeared already in the process when an employee in the store pasted a film on the screen! Grab your cover right now! By the way, if you buy a film for the FULL screen, then because of the rounded edges it will be problematic to stick it yourself without skill, besides, these films are silicone, which complicates the process of sticking. In the process of work, the device proved to be quite worthy, it works clearly and quickly, without hanging. 2GB of RAM is enough for me personally. We were pleased with the cameras, both the main one and the front camera, the main one has many settings and additions. I am satisfied with the quality of the photos. The battery, of course, is rather weak, even despite several power saving modes, if you actively use it for the whole day, of course, there will not be enough charge. I was pleased that the smartphone is not overloaded with various unnecessary applications like other manufacturers, but still from the declared 16 GB. almost half is occupied by the system. The sound in the headphones is very quiet, if you ride in transport, the volume is sorely lacking, you can even turn it off in the subway. To be honest, from whom, but I did not expect this from SONY. But the sound quality is perfect, and there are many settings to improve it. There are no complaints about the quality of communication, everything catches very clearly and the interlocutor can hear perfectly during a conversation. Each device has its pros and cons, but I did not regret at all that I purchased the Sony Xperia XA Dual SIM, although, it seems to me, the price is somewhat overpriced for such a smartphone. But it's SONY. Well, in general, if you take it, I think you will not regret it.

Internet
