What I didn't like

Well, we can include memory and games that don’t run very well; at high temperatures the brightness automatically decreases

General characteristics

Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to choose a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

Introduction

Traditionally, most of the devices that will be sold throughout the year were presented at the world's largest exhibition, Mobile World Congress 2013. In addition to the flagship device LG Optimus G Pro, the company rolled out an updated L-series of smartphones with the prefix “II” - the second generation. If you are interested in briefly reading about all the devices, I advise you to open the page dedicated to the exhibition. By the way, we also recorded for you a presentation that took place in Moscow.

Today's review will be dedicated to the LG Optimus L7 II Dual - the successor to the previously popular L7. First of all, the changes affected the design - instead of a strict rectangular shape, the new product received a more streamlined “figure”. Whether this is good or bad is most likely up to you to judge. In my opinion, it was much nicer. Naturally, the developers changed the chipset: instead of the dead Qualcomm MSM7227, they installed the nimble MSM8625. Of course, there is only a dual-core processor, but it allows you to run almost any games and applications. RAM was also increased from 512 megabytes to 768 megabytes. We upgraded the camera a little, updated the OS, but the most interesting thing was installed capacious battery as much as 2460 mAh. For this class of smartphones, this is a good bonus when considering the device as a purchase.

Design, dimensions, control elements

An interesting solution is to use different designs for essentially the same model: the “single-case” version of the L7 II has sharper corners, and in general the design is close to the previous version of the smartphone. The “dual SIM” version of LG II has sloping edges and is somewhat reminiscent of old LG phones, for example, Optimus Black, Sol, One and so on. I think it’s strange the decision to use a semi-gloss back panel on both the P710 and P715, considering the textured back cover on the P705 (the first generation of Optimus L7) is quite pleasant to the touch. In addition, the LG L7 had a metal insert on the back - a frame for the camera; new devices do not have this feature; the camera is designed somehow too primitively.

The LG Optimus L7 II Dual is sold in two colors: white and black. In my opinion, a gadget in white looks more elegant and prettier. At least fingerprints will be less noticeable on the back. Although they are practically invisible on a black smartphone. In addition, it is worth noting that the white panel has small convex dots, while the black one is absolutely smooth (and slippery, I would add), only small notches are applied to the edges. Over time, scuffs or scratches may appear on it, but since the plastic is painted on the inside, the defects will not be noticeable.

The screen is relatively easily soiled, so fingerprints abundantly cover the surface of the display, which, alas, is protected only by durable plastic and not “gorilla” glass. However, after three weeks of active use of the L7 II Dual, not a single scratch remained on the screen.

For the build quality of the phone, the designers should give it 5 out of 5. The device is really well built, not the slightest play, creaking or crunching in case of strong compression. It fits perfectly in the hand thanks to its fairly compact dimensions (122x66x9.7 mm), very light weight (115 grams) and the almost oval shape of the case.

On the front panel there are: a front camera, a proximity sensor and a speech speaker, covered with a thin metal mesh. Its volume is very high, the headroom is large, the interlocutor can be heard clearly and intelligibly, the timbre is pleasant (mostly low and high frequencies predominate). The quality of the speech speaker can be compared with the quality of the speakers in Samsung Galaxy S Duos and LG Optimus L7 first generation.

There are no complaints about the sensors - they work correctly.

Unlike the “single-SIM” version of the LG L7 II, the “dual-SIM” version does not have a mechanical “Home” key. Below the display there are only touch buttons: “Back”, “Home”, “Menu” and a special one for switching between SIM cards, as well as launching SIM management settings. These buttons are painted on the body with silver paint. The strangest thing is that they do not have a backlight: during the day you can see them without problems, but in the dark you have to “point” your fingers along the bottom area of the smartphone in the hope of getting to exactly the button you wanted to click on.

Due to the fact that the button for switching SIM cards is touch-sensitive, there were moments when the main SIM card was unexpectedly changed. Therefore, before making a call or sending a message, just in case, make sure that you have chosen the right SIM card.

At the bottom there is a microUSB and a microphone, at the top there is a second microphone for noise reduction and a standard 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or a headset.

In this version of the phone, LG specialists have provided a separate mechanical button on the top left side to launch any application, be it “Camera”, “Music”, “Voice Recorder” or some kind of game.

Just below is the volume rocker key. On the left side there is a thin and small button to turn the device on/off.

On the back side there is a speaker at the bottom, a flash and a peephole on top, slightly recessed into the body.

To remove the back panel, you need to pry it by the recess of the microUSB connector. The memory card is inserted on the top left, on the right - one above the other - are slots for installing SIM cards (regular miniSIM).

Display

Today, the LG Optimus L7 II Dual smartphone has the usual screen diagonal for most similar devices - 4.3 inches. The physical size of the display is 52x94 mm. The resolution, unfortunately, was not increased compared to the previous generation of the device; in general, it remained the same - 480x800 pixels. Most likely, this was not done so as not to create a competitor to the LG Optimus L9.

The matrix is made using IPS technology. Its quality is comparable to the quality of the L7 matrix, however, purely subjectively, the picture looks better on the screen of the first generation LG smartphone. Under large tilts of the Optimus L7 II Dual screen, the image loses brightness and color rendition deteriorates slightly.

In the sun the picture fades a lot, but in general the information is readable (the photo below did not convey the image correctly). In the shadows the behavior of the matrix is not bad.

In general, the screen is not bad, but there are a huge number of devices on the market with a lower price but a higher quality display, both in terms of sharpness and color rendition.

The touch layer is capacitive and supports up to 10 simultaneous touches. The sensitivity of the touchscreen is good.

It is not known who got the Smart Screen technology from whom (LG from Samsung or vice versa), but the Optimus L7 II has it. That is, when you turn on this mode while you are looking at the screen, it works as soon as you turn away - after a certain period of time it goes out. I couldn’t understand how it worked: the screen turned off when the timeout selected in the settings occurred, regardless of whether I was looking at the display or not.

Battery

The LG L7 II Dual uses a removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery with a capacity of 2460 mAh, 3.8 V, 9.3 W. Despite the rather impressive battery capacity for a device of this class, the device’s “lifetime” was slightly longer than the lifespan of any other Android smartphone.

The promised operating time is up to 12 hours of talk time and up to 800 hours of standby time. These data have been partially confirmed in practice:

  • Talk time only – up to 9 hours
  • Only in music playback mode – up to 35 hours
  • Only when playing video (maximum display brightness, maximum volume in headphones) – just over four hours
  • Games only – just over four hours
  • Web surfing only (via Wi-Fi, screen brightness 40%) – up to 10 hours
  • Only web surfing (3G, brightness varied from 40 to 100%) – 7 – 8 hours

If you use the phone for about 15-17 hours, the battery will be completely discharged provided: 15-25 minutes of calls per day, three hours of Wi-Fi Internet use (Twitter, mail, downloading applications and installing them), about five hours mobile internet while listening to music (a couple of hours).

From USB it charges within 5 hours, from a charger - an hour less. By the way, the phone “feels” when power is connected to it from USB, and when from network adapter: A message appears on the screen stating that the device will charge slowly due to low current.

The “Energy Saving” section contains the following items:

  • Auto-sync (enable or disable).
  • Wi-Fi (deactivate if not connected)
  • Bluetooth
  • Brightness (10 – 50%)
  • Time before screen turns off (15 or 30 seconds, 1 minute)

Communication capabilities

The smartphone operates in GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 900/1900/2100 networks. Speed HSDPA – 7.2 Mbit/s, HSUPA – 5.76 Mbit/s, EDGE – 236 Kbit/s, GPRS 32-48 Kbit/s.

Both slots can be used to work in the 3G network, but alternately, i.e. if, for example, SIM1 is in 3G, then the other one must be switched to 2G. And vice versa.

There is Bluetooth version 3.0 with A2DP. Wi-Fi module(802.11 a/b/g/n) supports DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), a standard that allows compatible devices to transmit and receive over home network various media content (images, music, videos), and also display it in real time.

The phone can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi hotspot). USB version 2.0 is present for data transfer and synchronization. Wi-Fi Direct is also used to “transport” files. The sensitivity of Wi-Fi was not satisfactory: even in difficult conditions shows 1-2 divisions.

Memory and memory card

The previous generation of the L7 smartphone had 512 MB of RAM. IN new version phone it became a little more - 768 MB. Of this volume, about 260 MB is usually free - not a lot, but this volume is quite enough for most tasks and for smoother operation of the interface.

The smartphone has 4 GB of flash memory built-in, but only 1.78 GB is allocated for installing applications and games. Partially the presence of a memory card slot helps. The maximum volume of a micro-edit is 32 GB.

Camera

The LG Optimus L7 II Dual has two camera modules: the main one is 8 MP BSI (in LG L7 it was 5 MP) and the front one is 0.3 MP. There is a small single-section flash. Maximum size photos – 3264x2448 pixels, videos – only 720x480 pixels. For such a poor resolution in a phone worth 10,000 rubles, let’s say “thank you” to the Qualcom chipset! Now even simple smartphones for 5,500 – 6,000 they give HD on MTK6577.

The lens has a standard aperture of f2.8 and a viewing angle of 33 mm. The maximum ISO value is 700, the minimum is 100; maximum shutter speed 1/25 s, minimum – 1/6000 s.

The photo quality is mediocre, although the white balance and autofocus performance are worth praising. The main complaint is the incorrect choice of exposure: frames often come out with overexposure or with darkened areas, and the touch focus somewhat aggressively adjusts the exposure.

There is nothing to say about video quality: in 2013, offering a smartphone for 10k that records videos in a resolution of 740x480 pixels is simply ridiculous (if it weren’t so sad).

Photo mode interface: on the right – activate the shutter, switch between photo and video shooting, go to the gallery; left – switch to front camera and back, voice control, modes and settings; at the top – resolution, shooting mode, memory, battery charge and number of remaining frames.

To focus, you need to touch the screen (“touch focus”) or immediately press the touch shutter button - automatic focusing will occur.

Photo mode interface: on the right – activate the shutter, switch between photo and video shooting, go to the gallery; on the left – switching to the front camera and back, selecting resolution, flash, zoom and settings; at the top are resolution, sound and battery charge.

Characteristics of the video file recorded on the main camera:

  • Format: MP4
  • Video: AVC, 2000 Mbit/s
  • Resolution: 720x480, 30 fps
  • Audio: AAC, 96 Kbps
  • Channels: 1 channel, 44 KHz

Performance

This device has a Qualcomm S4 Play MSM8625 chipset. Dual-core processor (ARM Cortex-A5), frequency 1 GHz, technological process 45 nm, instruction set - ARMv7, Adreno 203 graphics accelerator. This chip is practically no different from the MSM8225. Below is the characteristic:

If we compare the Qualcomm MSM8225/MSM8625 and MediaTek MT6577 chipsets, I did not notice any difference. Both have difficulty “digesting” HD video, not all toys are included, and the speed of the interface is relatively smooth. Actually, performance tests say the same thing.

brief information :

Performance tests:

Navigation

The smartphone has a GPS navigator. Cold start of determining the coordinates of LG P715 is about 7-8 minutes, hot start is about 15 seconds. Unfortunately, indoor satellites are detected reluctantly, so the navigator had difficulty finding only two or three of them. However, in open space in clear weather, L7 II identified more than 8 satellites.

Software platform

On this moment the smartphone runs on Google Android versions 4.1.2. Just the other day, two firmwares arrived in a row. Build number JZO54K, software version – P71510e-CIS-XX.

Shell and menu

The design serves as branded shell Optimus UI version 3.0. You can read more in the review of Optimus L7 and other LG smartphones. Below are screenshots.

Challenges

The dialer is large and convenient. When you enter the first digits, a list of subscribers with matching numbers opens. Working with SIM cards is simple: if you want to call or send SMS using one or another SIM, just press the special touch button at the bottom of the device. Everything else is standard for LG smartphones.

Messages

A proprietary LG keyboard is used for typing. It is very convenient to print. The language is switched by pressing the RU/ENG button. The view can be landscape or portrait. For those who have vision problems, I advise you to switch the font size in “Display” to “Maximum”.

Applications

I see no point in listing all the programs again. If you wish, read previous reviews of LG smartphones. There is standard software from Google and LG. Below are screenshots.

Multimedia

Music player . In the player you can organize songs by artists, albums, songs and folders. When playing music, the screen displays: a huge album cover, the name of the artist and the album title, and below are the player control buttons. In settings: search, add to favorites, SmartShare, add to playlist, delete, share (note, Bluetooth, Gmail, Skype, SMS/MMS), set as ringtone, information and settings.

Settings:

  • Show notifications (on, off)
  • Sleep timer (off, 10, 20, 30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours)
  • Audio effects (turn on or off Dolby Mobile)

Standard music player I don’t recommend using it: it doesn’t produce much high quality sound. I installed one of the most popular ones - PowerAMP. I tested the musical capabilities of the LG Optimus L7 with it.

The volume in the headphones is high. The low and high frequencies are well developed; the mids, it seemed to me, were slightly overwhelmed. Overall great value.

The speaker volume is slightly above average.

Default music formats supported: MP3, AAC, AAC+, AMR, MP3, MIDI, WAV, WMA

FM radio. Operates in the FM range: 87.5 – 108 MHz. The screen displays the frequency scale, settings, 6 cells for saving the most interesting stations, switching the sound to the speaker and turning it off. The volume in the headphones is slightly above average, the receiver sensitivity is good.

Conclusion

The call quality is good, on par with any other LG smartphone. The vibration alert is quite noticeable in the pockets of outerwear.

The smartphone left conflicting feelings. And it’s not that it works poorly or somehow doesn’t work well, it’s just that there’s not much difference relative to the previous generation. For example, the camera has the same quality of pictures, records videos in low resolution, the screen remains the same (type of matrix, its resolution and diagonal), the shell is old.

What did the new chipset and new software bring? Perhaps a little smoother operation of the interface and support for most simple games. The work time has increased, but not so much that “ah”.

LG became one of the first Android smartphone manufacturers to join the race to win its piece of the pie in the dual-SIM device segment. The first attempts were timid, but the experience of releasing phones with support for two SIM cards did its job. At that time (end of 2011), the interface and ease of working with two cards were the most successful among analogues, of which there were not so many. From the very beginning, LG began to adhere to one principle - to offer the user two identical devices (the only difference is the availability additional key for working with SIM) - one is normal, the second is exactly the same in design, functionality and capabilities, with the exception of support for a second SIM and, accordingly, an interface for working with them. Today we bring to your attention the senior model of the updated line of stylish L-Style smartphones– LG Optimus L7 II Dual. As you might have already guessed, the smartphone is capable of working with two SIM cards and is the successor to the popular LG Optimus L7 model.

Design and ergonomics

Appearance LG Optimus L7 II Dual – his business card. The smartphone looks compact, with a thin frame around the screen, not only on the sides of it, but also above and below it. Rounded corners further enhance this effect. In fact, this is a visual deception. Comparison with showed that the only difference in dimensions between the devices is the slightly greater height of the earlier model.

In numbers it looks like this:

LG Optimus L7 II Dual – 122.2 x 66.6 x 9.7 mm, 115 g
LG Optimus L7 II – 121.5 x 66.6 x 9.7 mm
LG Optimus L7 – 125.5 x 67 x 8.7 mm

And so in the photographs

Comparison of dimensions with other DualSIM smartphones with a 4.3-inch display

Model/Parameters Dimensions, mm Weight, g
LG Optimus L7 II Dual 122 x 67 x 9.7 115
130 x 68 x 10.7 131
129 x 66 x 9.9 145
128 x 68 x 10 136

In any case, the dimensions do not in any way affect the cute appearance of the LG Optimus L7 II Dual when viewed from the front. Once you look at the back of it, the impressions disappear. It's funny, but made from the same type of alloy, the L7 and L7 II are defined as devices from two different price segments. The first model looks more expensive and stylish due to longitudinal lines with a pigtail pattern, in harmony with the straight lines of the body. The Optimus L7 II doesn't have this. The corners of the case are rounded, and the pattern on the removable lid looks like a honeycomb, which does not add any attractiveness to the design. In both models back panel slippery.

But the difference of 1 mm in thickness made it possible to place it in the Optimus L7 II Dual battery capacity of 2460 mAh, which is about 45% more than its predecessor! Apparently, it’s not for nothing that Ken Hong (Director of Communications at LG Electronics) said in an interview that no one sees the difference between a phone with a thickness of 8 and 9 millimeters, which is confirmed in practice, using the example of L7 and L7 II, which have a difference the thickness is this very millimeter.

Considering the use of a display of the same diagonal, it was possible to gain an additional 4 mm in height in the Optimus L7 II by eliminating the silver insert surrounding the side of the case, which is present in the Optimus L7. If you do not take into account this frame, the height of the smartphones will match up to a millimeter, so there is no magic here.

On the front side of the LG Optimus L7 II Dual there is a VGA camera lens to the left of the speaker grid and a proximity sensor to the right of it. Between the grid and the display is the manufacturer's logo. Below the display, from left to right, there are four touch keys - “Back”, “Home”, “Menu” and “Change SIM priority”. In our copy, the keys are not backlit, so in the dark you have to use them at random. The location of the key for changing the priority of SIM cards under the display is not best idea. While using a smartphone, there were cases when we, without noticing it, changed the priority of operators, thereby making calls and sending text messages with the “wrong” SIM. Considering how easy it was for the manufacturer to add a separate hardware “Quick Button” key, we don’t understand why not provide the same one for changing the SIM priority. This would eliminate accidental operations and allow the interface control keys to be placed more thoughtfully. At least, as it was done in the LG Optimus L7, with one mechanical button in the center and two touch keys on either side of it.

Like the LG Optimus L7, the front part of the body is covered with plastic. Considering this, as well as the absence of an oleophobic coating, you will have to wipe off fingerprints often, and this is not easy to do even with the help of a special cloth like microfiber. The maximum brightness of the display backlight can barely cope with daylight even at this time of year; it’s scary to imagine what will happen on a bright sunny day.

The sides of the case are framed with plastic that protrudes slightly above the front panel and matches the color of the case. The center of the case, when viewed from the side, is divided by a silver metallic insert. It contains all the mechanical keys and connectors present in the smartphone. On the left side, attention is drawn to the programmable “ Shortcut Key"at the top end and the volume control key is slightly lower. On the right side there is a power-lock key. The sound and power keys are at the same level above the body, while the programmable key barely protrudes above its surface. Finding it blindly is not easy, but there is no such problem with the other two. All buttons have a short and noticeable stroke.

At the top end there are two holes, one for connecting headphones, and the second for noise reduction during a conversation. There are also two holes at the bottom end. The central one is a Micro-USB interface connector for connecting a charging or data cable, the one on the right is the main microphone, also used for conversations and recording sound with a voice recorder.

The back side of the case is rounded. As we already wrote, its main part has a honeycomb pattern. There is an 8 MP camera lens, a flash LED, a logo and two slots for the speaker with a small protrusion between them, designed to help avoid muffled sound when the phone is lying on the table. There is no separate recess for removing the rear panel. Its task is performed by a hole at the bottom (Micro-USB). Hidden underneath is a 2460 mAh battery, a memory card slot and two SIM card slots. The design allows you to change the memory card without removing the battery. Its dimensions are comparable to those used in the Optimus L7, being only slightly thicker. The battery interferes with the smooth installation of SIM cards.

The build quality of the LG Optimus L7 II Dual is difficult to assess. Our early test sample does not suffer except for gaps between parts; all other “charms” are present in it. If we take the LG Optimus L7 as a guide, we can assume that there should be no problems with creaking and play in commercial samples.

Operating system and shell

Considering what year it is now, there is no reason to be surprised that the smartphone is running operating systems Android version 4.1.2. Google's proprietary Optimus UI 3.0 interface is used on top of the Google shell. With the exception of some minor details, we could see the same interface in . Let's look at the differences.
The first starts from the lock screen. There is no choice of screen unlock mode. There are only those in , that is, the usual ones and not so attractive after those available in the LG Optimus G. The usual ones include: “Swipe”, “Face Unlock”, “ Graphic key", PIN and "Password", or without blocking at all.

A desktop can include from one to seven windows. The shortcut bar at the bottom of the screen holds from one to six shortcuts. The shell supports creating folders by dragging shortcuts onto each other. The notification panel contains a line with customizable switches (11 pieces), a brightness slider, date, time and a button to go to the “Settings” menu. Due to the low screen resolution, there is no line with QSlide applications.

In the Desktop settings, you can select the type of effect when transitioning between windows, one of four themes, set cyclic scrolling, and also activate the ability to operate the interface in landscape mode. Another feature that was not present in the LG Optimus G is the choice of icon size; they can be either standard, occupying one cell, or large, occupying four. Perhaps the developers wanted to make the interface more convenient for people with poor vision, but placing such a shortcut in the bottom line quick launch does not seem possible. As a result, other than pampering, there is no benefit from this opportunity.

The numeric dialing keypad only supports the Latin alphabet. The list of applications can be presented either as a 4x5 or 5x6 matrix. If necessary, the user can hide certain shortcuts, select a background image and sort applications by alphabet or date of download. Downloaded applications and widgets are displayed as separate shortcuts.

Safety Care has appeared among the applications. It allows you to send your coordinates by text message to a specified number if you dial the number emergency service. Send a notification with coordinates if the phone is inactive for a certain period of time (from 12 hours to 3 days, or a period specified manually), including before the battery runs out or when you dial one of the pre-stored numbers from phone book. This application can really come in handy in emergency situations, the main thing is that at this moment you are not left without communication and/or money in your account. I wish there was something like this in everyone smart phones. Perhaps its presence will save someone's life.

IN text messages Removed the ability to select a window with conversations and dynamic scaling, leaving only changing the background image. The gallery still supports a pinch gesture to change the amount of content displayed, but the video player no longer has this feature.

SIM settings allow you to use cards from the first and second slots, assign one of five icons to them, set color scheme, enable data transfer by selecting one of two SIM cards and allow it not to be interrupted even when roaming. Separately in the section “ Mobile networks"You can change which card will work in 2G and 3G mode. In the “Data Transfer”, “Call Settings”, “Sound” and “About Phone” menus, you can do more fine settings, including ringtone and call forwarding, or see detailed information about the SIM card.

The QSlide application suite consists of one video player. Like the LG Optimus G, you can adjust the player's transparency and move it around the screen, but you cannot pause or scale it. But, unlike Optimus G, the smartphone interface supports horizontal orientation, which means you can watch videos in landscape mode. It is not possible to launch a browser, calendar, calculator or notes, which is somewhat strange, because the simultaneous operation of these applications clearly requires fewer resources than when viewing a video in a separate window. A nice and useful detail was the ability to read and respond to messages without going to the application itself. Incoming message appears in a pop-up window in the upper left corner of the screen. To answer it, you need to click on the empty line below the text, which will cause the QWERTY keyboard to appear.

Hardware platform

The smartphone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play MSM8225 system-on-chip. The same one is used in and. It is manufactured using a 45nm process technology and includes two Cortex-A5 processor cores with maximum clock frequency 1 GHz, Adreno 203 graphics core and 768 MB of RAM, of which the system sees about 620 MB. Taking into account the fact that even when turned on, that is, before any application was launched, a maximum of 295 MB remains free. This, as well as the processor's modest graphics capabilities, make it impossible to use the LG Optimus L7 II Dual as a device to run modern 3D games. As evidenced by the frankly weak performance results in tests graphic capabilities smartphone. But, if you don’t be overly demanding and forget for a moment about the cost of the LG Optimus L7 II Dual, as well as the fact that the LG Optimus L7 with its 512 MB of RAM, of which only 390 MB is available to the system, and even less for applications, about 135 MB, the new product is not so bad. In addition, as we have already said, they work on exactly the same hardware platform HTC Desire X and dual-sim HTC Desire SV. The performance results of the latter completely coincide with those demonstrated by the LG smartphone.

The quality of signal reception does not cause difficulties with communication within the city. The volume of the speaker is sufficient for communication in a quiet stop, but without reserve for conversations in noisy places. The volume of the second speaker is average, the vibration alert is barely noticeable.

Search speed GPS satellites and Wi-Fi signal reception level is typical for modern devices, without obvious weaknesses and strengths.

The strong point of the LG Optimus L7 II Dual is its battery life. The Antutu test showed 769 points or 4 hours and 17 minutes. With this result, you can safely count on two days of work with a small number of calls, using Wi-Fi and 3G for reading news from social networks and browsing, 10-15 minutes of working with GPS, and listening to music for an hour and a half a day. When viewing HD video from Youtube via Wi-Fi at 70% screen brightness, the operating time of the LG Optimus L7 II Dual is 6 hours 30 minutes. At 50% brightness – 8 hours 45 minutes. At 0% brightness (comfortable for viewing in the dark) 11 hours and 50 minutes. Operating time in player mode (MP3, bitrate 192-320 kb/s, volume at 12 out of 15 possible levels) is just over 23 hours. In reading mode (FBReader) you can expect 8 hours and 45 minutes at 50% brightness or 15 hours and 41 minutes at 0% brightness.

Display and camera

The model is equipped with a 4.3-inch True IPS display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels and a pixel density of 217 ppi. The image quality is inferior to that of the LG Optimus L7. As LG told us, this impression was formed due to test samples; in commercial samples there should be no problems with the image. The main complaint comes down to the presence of a pink halo on a white background, as well as low viewing angles that are not typical for IPS matrices. I would like to believe this, since this display with all its properties is more like a TN matrix than an IPS.

Another annoying little thing is the lack of a light sensor, which means you have to manually adjust the brightness of the backlight. It seemed that even $250 smartphones were equipped with such a sensor, not to mention those that cost $330. Brightness indicators range from 5.9 cd/m² to 284 cd/m². Half brightness corresponds to a value of 66 cd/m².

100% display brightness in the first two photos and 50% in the last two photos

As with the situation around the HTC Desire V and HTC Desire SV, LG upgraded the main camera, replacing the 5 MP module with an 8 MP one. True, unlike HTC's dual-SIM phones, both L7s are equipped with a front-facing VGA camera.

Despite the fact that the L7 II Dual uses a back-illuminated (BSI) sensor, image quality remains at about the same level. The interface has become somewhat different. We added the ability to take pictures using a voice command and the ability to edit the location of shortcuts. In video mode, we added a brightness setting. The maximum resolution of recorded video is 740x480 pixels. For comparison, HTC Desire SV boasts a higher resolution of 800x480 pixels.

Results

The new generation of L-Style is better than the previous one in everything. The LG Optimus L7 II Dual smartphone received more compact body, while the capacity of the built-in battery has almost doubled. The hardware platform has been improved, now it is a more current Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play with a 1 GHz dual-core processor and 768 MB of RAM. The camera resolution has increased, although this did not greatly affect the final quality of pictures and videos. We have improved the interface, which is almost in no way inferior to the top-end LG Optimus G. In general, the smartphone leaves a pleasant impression, and taking into account the fact that its price at the start is lower than that of the LG Optimus L7, we can assume that it is also popular with LG Optimus L7 II Dual will be significantly higher.
The Optimus L7 II Dual has more than enough competitors. The main one is, built on the same hardware platform, with a display of the same diagonal and camera resolution. HTC has better materials and workmanship on its side. On the LG side, operating time, dimensions, current version operating system and functional shell, as well as the presence of an additional programmable key and ease of setting up SIM cards. Among other strong competitors, it is worth noting the popular and, as well as models with a 4.5-inch screen,. All of them are united by a low price, in the case of the Fly IQ446 Magic it is comparable, but the functionality of the smartphone is significantly superior to LG and various little things like the unusual location of the power button or two speakers in Acer, build quality and performance in Prestigio and Fly. The choice is difficult and will depend on your preferences and the width of your pocket, as well as your desire to have the most compact device of its class.
