Install xp operating system. Windows XP won't install

Computer technologies are developing more and more every day, as is the software for them. But today, many have computers that do not meet the stated technical requirements. An example of such software is Windows 7, which requires at least 1 GB of RAM for comfortable work.

And what about those who have only 512 MB of memory? In this case, our good old friend Windows Xp comes to our aid. It is in this article that you will learn how to install windows xp. This operating system is the second most popular in the Microsoft line. But this is not even strange, because the quality and convenience of work was and is on top.

Compare Xp with its older brother Windows Vista, this OS somehow didn’t take root with us, since there were many shortcomings there. And this was proved by the same users who worked on Xp without switching to a new OS. And most people, having bought a laptop or computer already with Vista, eventually rearranged it to XP or Windows 7.

If you are ready to learn how to reinstall Windows XP correctly, then let's move on to our installation, starting with preparing the computer.

Preparing to install Windows XP

To install, we first need a Windows xp installation CD. Or as an alternative, it can be a bootable USB flash drive, from 2GB or more. You can learn how to create a bootable flash drive. If your choice fell on a CD - disk, then be sure to read how to burn a disk with a Windows image

Of course, we will need to save all our data to the "D" drive in case you reinstall Windows. And you may need. For example, I have a lot of bookmarks of pages I like, and it would be expensive to look for everything again after reinstallation. But after exporting, I saved all my favorites in one file, and after installation I restored them in a few clicks, and this is quite convenient.

Having saved all the data, the last step remains, we need to put in or a flash drive. Having done all this, you can proceed to the installation itself.

Installing Windows XP

Having prepared the computer and set everything in the BIOS as recommended, after inserting the CD into the drive, booting from it should begin. A window will open asking you to press a key to continue the installation. The main thing is to react in time and have time to press, because if there is nothing to do, the computer will start to turn on as always with the previously installed OS.

Pressing any key will display blue screen which will check the configuration of your computer. Here you have to wait a bit.

After verification, the installer will prompt you to install new Windows XP or restore an existing one. Since we will be installing a clean system, click " Enter».

To install Windows XP, I used a blank disk and created one partition by simply pressing "Enter". But if you want to divide the disk into 2 partitions, press "C" and indicate the size that suits you, for example, a 20GB disk "C:\" and confirm. Selecting the "Unallocated area" again, press the "C" key and indicate the remaining 20GB, thus creating a second logical drive "D: \".

Finished with distribution free space, select "Format partition in NTFS system <Быстрое>».

The formatting process will begin, it will take a few seconds, but if you chose simple formatting, you will have to wait a little longer.

After formatting, copying of the installation files will automatically start, again here we don’t need to click anything, we just wait.

After copying all the files, the system will reboot and proceed to the installation itself.

Our computer rebooted and the installation of Windows XP began, with an estimated time to completion.

At 33 minutes, a window will appear for setting up regional settings, changing the layout and adding a language, just click "Next". Thus, you will leave the standard set of languages English and Russian. As a rule, I set additional languages after installation.

In the next window, we need to specify the Name.

We give a name to our computer.

Set the time zone and set the date and time.

Select the normal options.

We simply skip this step without changing anything.

Attention!!! If you set boot from CD-drive, then again a window will appear asking you to press some key to boot from disk. Your task is not to press anything, because Windows XP is almost installed and we will not need the disk further. After the reboot, the auto-adjustment of the image will begin, we agree with everything by clicking "OK".

We are greeted by Windows and thank you for your choice, proceed to the next step with the "Next" button.

"Delay this action" is what we need to select. In the screenshot I scored to change the selection.

If Windows XP was able to install the drivers on network card and the cable was plugged in, the Internet connection test may begin. But we just need to click on "Skip".

Again, if there is a connection then Windows will offer to register with Microsoft. Select "No" and click "Next".

Be sure to enter your account name.

We finish setting up Windows XP SP 3

Everything is ready Windows XP is installed.

How to Install Windows XP

Windows installation XP, and Windows in general - the process is simple, but long.

I'll tell you how to do it without the help of experts/computer friends. So, the whole process is divided into 3 logical stages:

  • Stage I: Preparation
  • Stage II: Installation
  • Stage III: Setting up

Stage I: Preparing to install Windows

Before proceeding with the installation of Windows, you need to copy all important information and settings so as not to lose them.
There are many different ways to do this, and I will not consider all the options, but will focus on the most basic ones.

This completes our preparations, and you can proceed directly to the installation.

Stage II: Installing Windows

So, now we are ready and you can proceed directly to the installation.
We insert the disk with our cherished Windows XP into the drive and ... no, we do not install it. Don't even think about installing the Operating System from within the Operating System itself.! We need to reboot and enter the hibernation bios (from the word Basic I nput / O utput S ystem). To enter it, you need to press the Del or F2 button when you boot your computer if you have a laptop. Although in some cases you need to press other keys, so see what is written at the bottom of the monitor screen. there will be an inscription like " press del to enter setup ".

Finally, Windows has installed, you have rebooted, now you can pull out the installation disk and proceed to the third stage.

Stage III: Setting up after installing Windows

We take out our installation disk and start the setup.

  1. Drivers and what to do with it.
First of all, you need to install drivers so that the computer knows what to do with what, and in general can feel comfortable.
    • We insert the disk from the motherboard. It is important for us to install 3 drivers: chipset (chipset), audio (audio) and Internet (ethernet). But if the program offers you more, then we agree to such courtesy and install it. Reboot so that the drivers are fully installed.
    • If there are no disks, then we remember where we downloaded our drivers from official sites and install them from there.
    • We insert a disk from our video card. As you may or may not have noticed, if you drag the windows, you can see that they move in jerks. This indicates that you do not have a video driver installed. So install the video driver from the disk and reboot.
    • Then we proceed according to the same scheme and install the rest of the equipment. For example, scanner, printer, tablet, mouse, keyboard, etc.
  2. Successfully Installed or how to determine if everything is in place
We need to make sure that we have not forgotten anything and that all drivers are installed correctly. This is not difficult to do. We go to Control Panel--> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager. As you can see, here we have all of our installed hardware listed. If there is a question mark next to something, this means that the driver for this device is not installed and the system does not know what to do with this equipment. If you find such an icon, then read opposite what it stands for and install the driver for this device. Ideally, there should be no question marks at all, as, for example, here:

    3. Optimization or freeing memory.
For more comfortable work, in the section where you have Windows installed, nothing extra should be installed, it is also desirable not to have a paging file on it and temp folders. This is what we will do now.
  3. Doesn't let internet?
Remember, we wrote incomprehensible numbers on a piece of paper? Now we need to put them back in. To do this, follow step 3 of the first step

This completes the whole process. You now have a brand new Windows, which is also already configured. Can be used

Afterword

It seems that all this is very complicated and incomprehensible, but after 10-20 identical actions and Windows installations, you will do it instantly. And there is really nothing complicated in installing the OS, it just takes a little more time and attention.

Now I would like to stipulate some points that one way or another are not included in the scope of this article.

  1. When writing this article, I considered only the disk with the official copy of Windows XP. I do not consider various builds, like Zver, Philka, etc. And, although the installation of assemblies practically does not differ from the installation of licensed copies of Windows XP, you put the assembly at your own peril and risk.
  2. I didn't go into registering your Windows XP for the reason that the process is pretty straightforward whether your key is printed on the CD box or mailed to you.
  3. I didn't consider installing drivers from special programs because I don't think it's safe enough.

PS: The article was written by a person hiding under the nickname “barn4k“ (a friend and assistant to the project). For which many thanks to him.

Before you start, make sure that you have all the necessary drivers for this particular system. You will hardly find them on new equipment, because Windows XP is no longer officially supported. Prepare an empty flash drive, save all important data somewhere. First you need to download the system image:

Then the program Novicorp WinToFlash to upload it to a flash drive:

Very detailed creation process bootable flash drive reviewed in , we recommend that you read it. In short, you need to unpack the image with Windows XP into a separate folder, run WinToFlash, select this folder in it and wait for the end of the process.

Installing Windows XP

Now you can start installation. Since we are installing Windows XP from a flash drive, and it was originally designed to be installed only from CD / DVD discs, there will be a few nuances. When booting from a USB drive, a boot menu appears, which offers two options: textual and graphical installation. At the beginning, select the 1st item, and after automatic reboot(after copying the files) we boot from the USB flash drive again and select the 2nd one.

  1. Entering boot menu to select the device we want to boot from. To do this, immediately after turning on the computer, press the key F10.
If you have difficulties at this stage, we recommend that you read the instructions.
  2. Select a USB drive from the list, in our case Patriot Memory and press Enter.

  3. We choose the first item. This will launch windows installer xp.

  4. A welcome message will appear. Click Enter.

  5. We are waiting for the bootloader to initialize the necessary drivers and prepare the files.

  6. Accept the license terms by clicking F8.

  7. Now the most important thing is to create a partition for installation. We will install the system on a new hard drive, so we choose to create a new partition by pressing the key C.

The main thing at this stage is not to delete or format partitions with your data (photos, music, documents, etc.). Most users use the D: drive for storage; in no case should it be touched. We format only the C: drive, deleting all files and the old system from it. In any case, it never hurts to make important files before reinstalling.
  8. We will create only one partition, enter the maximum possible size and click Enter.

Here you can create two or more partitions, for this, simply enter the required size and go to step number 7. It is recommended to use at least 20 GB of disk space for the system partition.
  9. Select the partition to install the system and press again Enter.

  10. Choose quick format. If the hard drive is very old or there are suspicions about its reliability, it is better to choose a full format.

  11. We wait until the formatting of the partition is completed, then we wait until the files are copied.

  12. After copying is completed, it will automatically reboot.

  13. Now a very important point!
You must boot from the flash drive again and select the second menu item (as in steps 1 to 3 at the beginning), otherwise the installation will not continue.

When installing from a CD / DVD disc, you do not need to do anything, everything will work anyway.
  14. If everything is done correctly, the installation will continue in graphical mode.

  15. The Language and Regional Settings window will appear. Change nothing, click "Further".

  16. Enter the username, preferably in Latin letters.

  17. "Further".

  18. We refuse to enter the key, we press "Not".

  19. We do not change the computer name, we leave the password blank for now.

  20. Set the correct time zone and time.

  21. Network configuration. Our computer is connected to the network through a home router, so we leave "Regular Options" and press "Further". In any case, the network can be configured after installation.

  22. The connection window will appear. home group and domain. For home use there is no need to change anything here, just click "Further".

  23. The computer will restart again. It is no longer necessary to boot from a USB flash drive, it has fulfilled its purpose. Now the initial Windows setup, on the welcome screen, click "Next".

  24. Even though Windows XP is no longer officially supported, enable automatic update systems. When connected to the Internet, important updates released after SP3 will be downloaded and installed.

  25. We indicate to the setup wizard that our computer is connected to the Internet via local network and press "Further".

  26. Once again we refuse to activate the system.

  27. Enter the username of the computer, you can do the same as in step number 16.

  28. This completes the installation of Windows XP, click the button "Ready".

  29. The familiar desktop appears, you can proceed to initial setup system and installation of the necessary software.

Initial system setup

  1. Update the system (just connect to the Internet, it will update automatically);
  2. Install the missing drivers with

Greetings. Decided to write about it today. how to install windows xp. They just brought me a computer, so-so, old already. RAM 256 MB, Celeron processor, hard drive 40 GB. Well, what? That where there, XP is the most for him.

It’s just that everyone is already writing about installing Windows 8, but something has carried me back to the old days. Well, okay, I think that XP will live on, because whatever one may say, this is a good OS and many still work with it. Just want to apologize for the pictures, photographed on a 15-inch monitor, also on the phone. Ideally, of course, you could install Windows XP on virtual machine and make beautiful screenshots, but I have a living example :).

Preparing to install Windows XP

Important! Make sure that there is no important information on the C drive (the drive on which you have installed or had installed the operating system). Desktop and folder "My documents" stored on drive C. If there is information, then it can be copied to drive D using boot disk.

If everything is fine, then we move on. Insert the Windows XP installation disc into your computer drive and restart your computer. If after the start of the download at the bottom of the screen you will see the download (the dots will move), then everything is fine. Quickly press any key (did not have time :), restart the computer again) and you can proceed to the beginning of the installation.

Well, if you didn’t boot from the CD, and the computer started to boot as usual from the hard drive, or an error appeared through which you undertook to reinstall operating system, it means that you have not set boot from the drive in the BIOS in the first place. I already wrote an article about that, but in this computer the BIOS was different from what is described in the article.

Go to the tab "Boot".

Click "Boot Device Priority".

Using the keys "Enter" and "Up" "Down" set the first CD / DVD, then the hard drive, etc. Now press F10 and save the changes. The computer will restart and the CD will begin loading. Press any button and proceed to the beginning of the installation.

Windows XP installation process

As soon as you pressed any key, we see this:

Here you have to wait, well, nothing can be done, we are waiting :).

In this window, press "Enter".

We accept the license agreement by pressing the F8 key.

As you can see, I have already found old version Windows XP and you can try to restore it, but I think you also need clean install, so press "Esc".

Select the partition on the hard disk in which we want to install the operating system. As a rule, this is C:, select it and press “Enter”.

Confirm the setting with the "C" key.

Here you need to choose how the partition will be formatted. I advise you to choose FAT and not fast. Press "Enter". Confirm formatting by pressing the "F" key.

We are waiting for the partition on the hard drive to be formatted.

Copying files from the disk will start immediately, we are waiting again :(.

You can immediately set up the language and keyboard. Click "Next".

Enter your name and organization name. Move on.

Set up the time and date. Click "Next".

We are waiting again, but do not go far :).

I left “Regular Options” and clicked "Next".

You can register with Microsoft. But I refused. We continue.

Specify computer users.

Congratulations! Windows XP installation is complete.

All friends, the installation is complete and you can start using your computer. I also want to note that I installed the simplest build Windows xp. You may also have an assembly, for example, from ZWER, where the installation process may be slightly different. For example, in this version, I also entered the key, I forgot to take a picture. And in the assembly from ZWER, there seems to be no such item. Well, if it asks for a key, then look for it in a text file that you most likely downloaded from the disk image.

Well, like everything. Good luck friends!

Windows XP is the classic and most popular operating system, which is still installed on computers by lovers of antiquity. Unfortunately, due to its obsolescence, serious problems can arise during the installation process. In particular, installation may not occur at all due to errors. But almost all of them can be solved.

What could be the reasons

There are two options in total, according to which it may suddenly become impossible Windows installations XP to PC:

  • Problems directly in the software.
  • Problems with computer components.

In both situations, there may be significant conflicts with the installation process of the operating system. However, any of them can be easily and simply solved if you understand a little what the problem is.

Damaged installation disk

One of the most commonplace reasons why Windows XP is not installed is a malfunction of the installation disk. In most cases, no one pays attention to a scratched and worn disk, although massive damage is quite capable of preventing some files from being read. The same applies to recording - incorrect "burning" of the media will not allow you to correctly install the operating system. So if the cause is scratched, it is recommended to look for another installation disk.

Wrong input and output device

The most common and far from the saddest mistake is an incorrectly set I / O device. The operating system is trying to install from some media, but the BIOS does not see it, so the installation fails.

So to fix the problem, you have to look into the BIOS. To do this, immediately after pressing the power button on the computer, start very actively clicking one of the keys on the keyboard. As a rule, this is F2, Esc or Del, more precisely, you need to look at the manufacturer of the motherboard.

After that, we directly set the boot priority. Using AMI BIOS as an example:

  • We go to Boot.
  • We find Boot Device Priority there.
  • We look at which device is set up first. It is necessary that the First Boot Device line contains the device that is necessary for installation (disk drive or flash drive).

After that, you can exit the BIOS by saving the settings.

If this does not help, be sure to replace the small battery that powers the CMOS on the motherboard.

Boot viruses

The next problem, which is also related to Bios, is the function of boot viruses. Or rather, its on state. In the original, this item should fight off viruses during boot, but for some reason it only interferes with the installation of the system. Therefore, you need to disable it by setting the position to Disabled.

Drive failure

In some cases, damage to the drive can prevent Windows XP from installing. The probability is especially high if there were problems with him before - he did not read or read the information incorrectly. If in Everyday life it is not so noticeable, then every file is important during the installation process, that's why it freezes.

There are two ways out of this situation - either install a new drive if the installation is planned from a CD / DVD disc, or try installing the operating system from a flash drive.

Hardware problems

The next reason is any malfunctions in the hardware of the computer. It could be a deformity hard drive. It occurs in the event that the computer for some reason fell or hit something. In this case, the hard drive is damaged, and writing to it can no longer be done.

The next "internal" problem is loose pins on the motherboard. Or, for example, there was a failure in the input-output device, which is located on the motherboard itself.

And there is only one way out - to try to install a copy of the operating system on another PC. If it starts, it means that the problem is in the hardware of the computer. If not, the problem lies in the copy itself.

Conflict with modernity

This problem is relevant for the latest motherboards. They work a little differently, so the installer just doesn't recognize HDD devices. The essence of the problem is as follows: the wrong value for the installer is set in the BIOS for the IDI / SATA chipset controller, specifically AHCI. outdated operating room Windows system XP is simply not able to recognize such a value, since it appeared much later than the last patch for it.

The solution is as follows - enter BIOS, then SATA Mode. Find there a value called IDE and set it as used. XP is familiar with it and will not be capricious.

Other issues

In addition to the problems that were described above, there may be other unpleasant malfunctions:

  • Overheating of any component. During operation, one of the components of the processor heats up excessively and cannot perform its functions correctly. So the cause of overheating should be eliminated first.
  • conflict with more new system. If the disk already has Windows version 7 or higher, installation may fail. First you need to format the disk with the old system and only then start installing the new one.
  • Service pack conflict. If this error occurs, you should format local drives. A clean system is then installed on a free hard drive.

These were the most common and easily solved problems, but many others can also occur. Most often, they can be determined either by a specialist or by a program designed for diagnostics.
