The cheapest tariff in Moscow is 440 rubles per month. For this amount, you will be offered 100 minutes of calls with any subscribers throughout the country, unlimited calls within the Yota network and - attention - unlimited Internet. You will have to pay 2.5 rubles for each SMS, or buy an unlimited package for 50 rubles, which will increase the subscription fee to 490 rubles.

Cool? It's never cool. I explain why.

Everyone has their own understanding of the unlimitedness of the Internet. For me personally, total unlimited is 2 gigabytes per month. It is no longer possible to suck from a smartphone with all the desire. Because Wi-Fi at home, Wi-Fi at work, Wi-Fi also appears in transport. You won't spend much in between. I myself, if I don’t distribute Wi-Fi to other devices, fit into a gigabyte with a large reserve, although I can’t call myself an inactive user.

With Yota, you can access the Web only from one device where a SIM card is inserted. If you distribute access to the outside, the speed is cut to 128 kilobits per second. This, sorry, is nothing at all. I usually have to distribute Wi-Fi on trips, when in the field I need to urgently process and send full-size photos to the editor. For example, seventy megabytes at a time (this is still a very modest option, I assure you. It used to be 500). How long will it take if it goes at 10 kilobytes per second? That's it. Nafig such unlimitedness is not needed. And it turns out, in general, cheating: you are promised “honest unlimited”, but in fact everything is perfectly limited by the form factor of the device itself. And no one downloads more than 3-4 gigabytes. Surely the operator can present some exceptions that download HUNDREDS OF GIGS OF TRAFFIC, but we are talking about the average temperature in the hospital, which determines everything.

For example, I pay 450 rubles per month for the MTS Smart tariff. This amount includes 500 minutes of calls to any numbers in the region and unlimited calls to MTS throughout the country, 500 SMS and 3 gigabytes of traffic. All this is valid throughout Russia, i.е. additional packages and options when traveling to Saratov do not need to be connected. You can find fault with 3 gigabytes, but for me, I repeat, this is a real unlimited. And I can distribute them to the right and to the left with the maximum speed for this section of the network.

At Beeline, a package comparable in terms of quantitative parameters costs 600 rubles. There are more included minutes and less SMS, and the same amount of Internet (tariff “All for 600”). For 400 rubles, 400 minutes of calls, 100 SMS and a gigabyte of traffic are offered. Also, by the way, it's pretty good. I think I would fit in.

Nostril to nostril with Beeline goes MegaFon itself, where the All Inclusive S package for 390 rubles is almost identical to Beeline’s All Inclusive for 400, and All Inclusive M for 590 gives not only 600 minutes of calls and 600 SMS, but also 4 gigabytes of traffic throughout Russia. And what happens? The minimum Yota tariff is only slightly cheaper than the quite serious offers of business colleagues. And if you add at least up to 300 prepaid minutes to it, you will already be charged 690 rubles a month. And for 600 minutes 990 rubles. That is, it is significantly more expensive than for “just MegaFon”. Not to mention Beeline and MTS.

Meanwhile, the devil hides in the little things, which in the “generous” offer of Yota are just a fig. For example, MTS has the option “Zero without borders”. You pay 41 rubles a day (although this amount may increase in the near future), and the first ten minutes of all incoming calls become free for you. Other operators have similar savings offers.

Yota doesn't have them. Generally. I did not believe my eyes when I did not find a description of the options on the “operator” website. I installed the application, asked the support service a question (by the way, it only works via the Internet, you can’t call). They also said there are no options for roaming. Maybe later they will. But not yet. Meanwhile, the rates for calls and SMS in roaming at Yota are quite invigorating. For example, in Israel for 79 rubles a minute of an incoming / outgoing call. So many in the States.
