Huawei Y9 (2018) - Specifications. Huawei Y9 review: it has outgrown the budget Huawei Y9 smartphone

A few days ago Huawei released its new smartphone on budget market. It is called Huawei Y9 2018. Its main feature is the design because the smartphone is very similar to flagship devices such as Huawei Mate 10 and Honor 9 Lite. Additionally, it comes with an 18:9 display, quad cameras (dual front and dual rear), good performance, and a big battery. Huawei Y9 2018 has every chance of becoming a bestseller in the budget segment, especially in Europe and the USA, where the Huawei brand is very popular.

As you know, Xiaomi is the king in the budget market. The Chinese company has already released some very interesting phones at the beginning of 2018. In my opinion, Redmi Note 5 Pro is best competitor Huawei Y9 2018. So, I decided to compare these phones and find out which one is better to buy in 2018.

Where can I buy?

Design

I want to start with the design because that's one of the main differences between these phones. As I said, Huawei Y9 2018 looks very similar to Mate 10 and Honor 9 Lite. Huawei knows how to make good and stylish smartphones.

While the front panel of Redmi Note 5 Pro and Huawei Y9 2018 is almost identical except for the Huawei logo, the rear panel has some differences. First of all, Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a vertical dual camera setup just like the iPhone X. To be honest, I don't really like it and Huawei's horizontal dual rear camera design looks better to me. Both smartphones also have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Budget smartphones from Huawei and Xiaomi have microUSB ports and 3.5 mm audio jacks.

Also, I should note that the Huawei Y9 2018 is a more compact smartphone because it has a slightly smaller display. So, I will give the first winning score to the Huawei device because I like it better.

Display

The display is another interesting feature. Huawei Y9 2018 and Redmi Note 5 Pro come with very similar screens. They both have an 18:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution, 2160 by 1080 pixels.

However Huawei smartphone has a diagonal of 5.93 inches, and Xiaomi device equipped with a 5.99-inch display. I'm sure both phones have high quality displays and the difference in diagonal is not very noticeable. In this case there are no winners, and both phones receive one point from me.

Performance

Hardware is very important for budget smartphones, since it provides good performance while playing games, surfing the Internet, watching movies, etc.

Huawei Y9 2018 is equipped with a processor from Huawei called Kirin 659. In addition, 3 GB is installed here random access memory and 32 GB of internal memory. Storage can be expanded using a card microSD memory. The AnTuTu test shows around 75,000 points, which is pretty good for a budget phone.

As for the Redmi Note 5 Pro, it is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. You can also find a version with 6GB RAM. It is also possible to expand internal memory using a MicroSD card. Snapdragon processors are very good and they provide high performance and energy efficiency. Redmi Note 5 Pro scores around 110,000 points in AnTuTu.

By the way, Huawei Y9 2018 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with EMUI 8.0 user interface. Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 9 user interface. Both the interfaces are highly customized and both offer different features and functionality. I cannot choose for you which interface is better, each user chooses according to his own taste.

As you can see, Xiaomi smartphone has more powerful processor, more RAM and internal memory. If you are looking for a gaming phone, then the Redmi Note 5 Pro should be a better option.

Camera

The next thing I want to talk about is the camera. Xiaomi and Huawei really offer good cameras on their smartphones, not only flagships, but also budget ones.

Huawei Y9 2018 comes with four cameras: dual front and dual rear. Let's start with the main camera. On the back, you can find a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. They have an aperture of f/2.2 and f/2.6 respectively. As for the front camera, there is a 16-megapixel main sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. Honestly, I don't believe that a 2 megapixel sensor on the back and front will allow you to do much more. better photos. The manufacturer says that they are necessary for pictures with the bokeh effect.

As for the Redmi Note 5 Pro, it comes with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor on the back. They have an aperture of f/2.2 and f/2.0 respectively. In addition, the smartphone has a 20-megapixel front camera. This sounds very interesting!

It's very difficult to pick a winner because both phones rely on front-facing cameras. However, I will give my preference to Redmi Note 5 Pro because I have already tested many budget phones Xiaomi and they take really good photos.

Battery

In terms of battery, both phones seem to be identical. They have 4000 mAh batteries with fast charging function. I think Redmi Note 5 Pro and Huawei Y9 2018 have the same time battery life, up to 2 days on a single charge, while fully charging the battery takes about 2 hours.

Price

And the last category for our comparison is price. Right now, you can buy the Redmi Note 5 Pro with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage for around $220. On this moment official price Huawei Y9 2018 is unknown as the smartphone was announced only yesterday. However, I think it will cost less than $250.

Both smartphones are in the same price range, and the actual price may vary due to coupons, sales and other discounts.

Conclusion

As you can see, Huawei Y9 2018 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro are very similar. They have almost identical displays, batteries and cameras. However, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is slightly more powerful than the Huawei device. In addition, I want to note the premium design of Huawei Y9 2018. It looks stylish and expensive, just like the flagship device Huawei Mate 10.

The device, frankly speaking, is not capable of surprising with its appearance at all, if you do not take into account 4 cameras: 2 in front and 2 in back. The device cannot surprise you with anything else. The body colors are standard, the body itself is metal. The fingerprint scanner is round and located on the back of the device. The cameras are shifted to the side and practically do not protrude from the body, which is an undoubted advantage of the body. If the smartphone is lying on the back, then it practically does not rock. We have no complaints about ergonomics; the device is easy to use and does not tend to jump out of your hands. If you look at the device from the front, it is generally difficult to determine which model it is. If it were not for the Huawei inscription at the bottom, it would be difficult even to identify the company. The kit includes a charger unit that does not provide fast charging, standard microUSB cable and a smartphone. As you can see, even the kit is not surprising.

Width

Height

Thickness

Weight

Shell

The smartphone received the latest Android 8 OS, but with the Huawei EMUI shell. Nice interface, and most importantly it works well and quickly, without lag. The settings menu is quite rich. You can even choose the screen resolution, reducing it to HD+. It is possible to adjust the color temperature of the screen, as well as gesture control. You can turn off the on-screen buttons altogether and switch your smartphone entirely to gestures, this is very cool, since smartphones from other companies will not be able to provide you with such a wide range of device control options. You can also note the “hype” facial recognition function, which works very well, despite the class of the device.

Specifications

  • CPU

    HiSilicon Kirin 659 4x 2.36 GHz ARM Cortex-A53, 4x 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A53

  • Video processor

As usual, the device from Huawei received its own processor - 8-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 (4x 2.36 GHz ARM Cortex-A53, 4x 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A53). Huawei “inserts” this processor into almost all of its inexpensive smartphones. This time they installed a Mali-T830 MP2 video processor to help him, which is not enough stars from the sky.

Memory

The built-in memory is sufficient - 32 GB, although many would like more. These people can purchase a memory card up to 256 GB, without having to sacrifice a SIM card for this; this model allows for the use of two nanosims and a memory card at the same time. Well, there is 3 GB of RAM, which is also very good.

Connection

The only thing we are extremely disappointed with is the lack of NFC. Very in vain. But those who do not consider this a problem will be satisfied with both the network reception and the navigation performance. The connection on the device works well.

Look
updated as new information becomes available and published after careful review

Over the past few years, the line of smartphones has been supplemented with numerous new products, which has significantly complicated the choice for users. Reviews of models describing the advantages and disadvantages have become especially popular. In this regard, we present our extended review of one of the new and already established popular gadgets— smartphone Huawei Y9 (2018) with all its advantages and disadvantages.

The first thing that interests many is the ratio of cost and functionality of the gadget. It can be classified as an average price category in its class of smartphones. Huawei is not Vertu, but it is not inferior to it, that is, if you want to show off a beautiful and useful thing, then take it - don’t think about it.

Advantages and disadvantages of the case

The second is respectability. Stylish, laconic design, ergonomic body with a good display, uniqueness and good review which is given minimal frames. The rounded edges of the case add an element of grace, and the metal back cover gives a feeling of reliability. The smartphone is available in three colors: blue, classic black and, for the buyer with a claim, in a gold case.

Advantages of the case:

  • Ergonomics;
  • Shockproof metal back cover;
  • Convenient side buttons.

Case disadvantages:

  • Large dimensions, making it difficult to fit in one hand;
  • It is difficult to operate the display buttons with one hand.

Purely according to external characteristics The smartphone can be classified as a massive and oversized male model, but in an elegant gold case it will perfectly complement a glamorous female image.

Display and its features

Huawei Y9 is presented in a 5.9-inch display, complemented by an IPS matrix and the popular today aspect ratio of 18 by 9. The screen resolution is excellent - 2160 by 1080.

Display advantages:

  • High picture quality, clarity;
  • The color spectrum is wide, the colors are rich, the halftones are not blurred, excellent contrast;
  • The minimized frame creates a full image.

Display disadvantages:

  • There is glare, and in the sun the image quality deteriorates significantly;
  • A small margin of screen brightness.

The fact that there are fewer disadvantages already speaks in favor of the smartphone, as well as the fact that it justifies its cost. Let's study further.

Productivity as the most important and difficult factor

Average users treat this issue with little interest, since few people are familiar and understand most of the terms used in this topic. Because of this, we will try to reveal this point as simply and clearly as possible.

So, being an experienced user who is familiar with many models, I will note the rather good performance of the gadget in its price segment. What distinguishes the smartphone from many other brethren is the Kirin 650, paired with the Mali-T830 MP2 graphics chip. In practice or during use, the latter allow you to expand the range of toys, and also significantly improves the quality of graphics, that is, the pictures in games are clear, and the applications themselves do not freeze. These add-ons also improve the quality of photos and videos.

Advantages:

  • Memory available in three configurations – 3/32/64/128 GB;
  • Most popular games run easily on medium settings;
  • For photography, dual modules are provided - 13/16 MP;
  • Decent quality of pictures and videos, sometimes better than that of competing models.

Flaws:

  • When shooting at night, noise is observed and grain appears;
  • The poor quality of the sensor, in particular, the fingerprint scanner does not always respond.

With only two shortcomings, this is the best performance indicator of a smartphone.

Advantages and disadvantages of Huawei Y9 (2018) through the eyes of a professional

Having familiarized myself with numerous reviews and reviews of the new smartphone, I hasten to note that some of them are outright mediocrity, and some are concrete stupidity, and therefore, I hasten to summarize the characteristics of this gadget to present its advantages and disadvantages more or less adequately.

Advantages:

  • Laconic, presentable design;
  • Above average performance;
  • Increased autonomy;
  • Two dual, essentially four cameras.

Flaws:

  • Type-C connector is missing;
  • The manufacturer did not indicate the NFC module in the specifications, but it is present.

To complete the review, it is advisable to provide some characteristics and test results.

What the AnTuTu Huawei Y9 test showed

This test rated the performance of the smartphone in question at 7.4 points, I’ll immediately note that in comparison with its other brothers, the new product received an average score, taking 6th place. But Yandex-market gave the model primacy, based on the criterion of demand and relevance.

Experts also note that previously models with the letter Y did not exceed the cost of up to 10 thousand; a smartphone released in 2018 exceeded this mark, which means that it is already difficult to characterize it as a budget one, but it is still possible, since in the last couple of years prices for gadgets and technology have increased. Thus, experts in this field classify the model as an average gadget in terms of price and functionality.

What experts didn’t note, but users noticed

User assessments of the gadget are also ambiguous, and sometimes extremely contradictory. The latter can be attributed to low awareness of new smartphones and similar technology in general. Another part of users expects a masterpiece of “digital creativity” for that amount. But let's look at user reviews.

So, all opinions begin in the standard way, they say, the model is not bad, but... then they list the disadvantages:

  • Most people note poor screen visibility in the bright rays of the daytime sun. It turned out a little poetic, but this is a big minus, especially for those who are forced to often be on the street.
  • The fingerprint scanner often lags. The experts also agreed with this shortcoming, which confirms that the users are right.
  • The sensor buttons also did not satisfy users, finding them not particularly convenient.
  • Particularly advanced comrades, in quotes, “got lost” in the smartphone interface, unable to cope with the settings, naturally, they noted this as one of the significant disadvantages - and this is in the 21st century.
  • Many people have complaints about the camera's performance, especially in automatic mode. In the distant view of the shooting, the photos look like they were painted (I can argue here, since this is noted as clear and bright photographs).
  • When watching a video, it is impossible to remove the work bar, which interferes with viewing.
  • The gadget takes a very long time to charge.

Advantages noted by users:

  • Users noted a unique “hype” - the gadget reflects its “face” and perfectly recognizes its owner by it.
  • Big screen.
  • The rear camera does not protrude.
  • Availability of headphones in the basic set, protective film and a silicone case – this means savings for the user.
  • The phone is fast and, most importantly, strong – it can withstand falls.
  • High quality photos when shooting with the front camera. (so please people).
  • There is a lot of delight in the battery life - when surfing the Internet, watching videos and talking, the charge lasts for one and a half days, if you just read books and carry on conversations, then for two days, but listening to music limits the charge to one day of use.
  • The presence of the “Ultra” mode extends the battery charge by 3 days.
  • There are no useless applications or other software garbage installed by the helpful manufacturer that cannot be removed.
  • Excellent sound when talking (one thing is that not only the person talking on the phone can hear perfectly well, but also the entire tram).
  • Presentable appearance.

To summarize, Huawei Y9 is a worthy invention of its manufacturer, as well as of our time. The low cost of the gadget makes it possible for the average user with no less than the average income to touch the masterpieces of scientific and technical thought. Additionally, I would like to note that this smartphone is your best friend on the road in the sense that it can withstand a whole working day without recharging, and the gadget does not glitch or be capricious. Allows you to communicate in popular applications and social networks, watch videos, read business letters, play your favorite toys, and also take endlessly high-quality photographs, changing settings and modes.

In conclusion, I note that most of the people who purchased this model, were left with it, are quite satisfied, and use it successfully, without rushing to replace it with new products from competitors.

New Huawei Y9 (2018): all the characteristics of a smartphone that painfully resembles either the Mate 10 Lite or the Honor 7X. Can you find five differences?

March 12 Huawei company introduced another phone that fits perfectly into the marketers’ concept of cloning and rebranding previous models. We take a smartphone released several months ago, change a couple of details, for example, the resolution of one of the main sensors or front camera, and launch a new product on the market that will attract the attention of the audience.

In the Huawei Y9 (2018) smartphone, the characteristics are almost identical to those of the Huawei Mate 10 Lite. They decided not to change the resolution of the cameras, and their number remained the same. The new product for the middle segment of the market has the same number of lenses as its predecessor - four. The display diagonal has changed little - by some 0.3 inches, the classic resolution is FullHD+, the aspect ratio is multimedia. In short, almost everything is the same as in the Mate 10 Lite.

It should be said that the Huawei Y9 (2018) begs comparison not only with the Mate 10 Lite, but with another new product presented just three months ago. It's about. There is also a dual camera on the back, a large multimedia screen, Kirin 659 and other family features inherent in this “line” of cloned phones. But today we will not compare “different” (relatively different) models of the popular Chinese brand with each other. We will devote a separate publication to this with tables and diagrams.

Today we only talk about Huawei specifications Y9 (2018). Very short and to the point. Go.

Huawei Y9: screen characteristics

Huawei Y9 (2018) is made in a modern form factor with 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen is large - the absolute area is 90.7 square meters. cm, relative (compared to the area of the front panel) about 77%. The screen resolution, as expected, is FullHD+, that is, 1080 x 2160 pixels. When diagonal 5.93 inches, such a resolution gives a pixel density of 407 ppi. The matrix, of course, is IPS LCD. The screen is covered with 2.5D glass, the degree of scratch resistance of which has not yet been reported.

Huawei Y9: hardware specifications

The first publications about Huawei Y9 (2018) are full of headlines that this phone is a “real Xiaomi killer RN 5 Pro". It is difficult to understand what illiterate copywriters or authors are guided by, apparently due to the similarity of the form factor and battery capacity.

The battery of Huawei Y9 (2018) is really fine - 4000 mAh. Supported fast charging, but there is no information about the characteristics yet charger, which comes with the phone, and the actual battery replenishment rate.

The main disadvantage of the Kirin 659 chipset is the graphics adapter Mali-T830 MP2. This adapter is noticeably inferior to any Adreno 5xx. Considering that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has a new Snapdragon 636 processor with new Adreno 509 graphics, the Huawei Y9 (2018) smartphone will be behind its direct competitor in all benchmarks, and it will lose a lot.

And to finish the conversation about the hardware, let’s add that so far only one memory configuration of Huawei Y9 (2018) is known - with 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of internal memory. Perhaps a 4/64 GB version will appear later. There is an expansion slot for a microSD card, but it is a hybrid one.

Huawei Y9: camera specifications

IN Huawei phone Y9 (2018) camera characteristics are exactly the same as e. On back cover a double module is located. The main lens of this module has a resolution of 16 megapixels, an aperture ratio of 2.2, and an equivalent focal length of 27mm. Automatic focusing is implemented using phase technology (). The second rear camera sensor has a resolution of 2 MP. It is needed exclusively for frame depth and post-processing of images, for example, to simulate the effect of a variable aperture.

The front camera is also dual. The auxiliary module is represented by the same 2 MP sensor, and the main one has a resolution of 13 MP, an f/2.0 aperture and a focal length of 26mm. The Huawei Y9 smartphone can only shoot video with a resolution of 1080p and a frequency of 30 frames per second - these are the maximum capabilities of the Kirin 659 chipset.

Interfaces, software, design

Huawei Y9 is made in a metal (aluminum) case. The fingerprint scanner was placed at the back on the central axis, the cameras were screwed in the upper left corner. There is a 3.5 mm audio jack. Charging is connected via microUSB. Work in Wi-Fi networks 5 GHz is not supported.

Out of the box, the user receives Android 8 complete with proprietary EMUI 8 firmware. The operating system, along with battery capacity, is the main difference between Huawei Y9 and Mate 10 Lite. The phone will be presented in three colors: blue, black and gold.

There is no official information yet regarding the price of Huawei Y9 2018, however, it is expected to cost around 250 euros. Considering that this is the brand’s most budget-friendly smartphone, albeit the most sophisticated one in its subclass, the price can be called high.

Over the course of a week, I conducted a survey of owners different smartphones, including Huawei Yu9, based on their answers, I will write a review about it.

What Huawei y9 owners like:

First of all, of course, the price, all owners of Huawei U9 are glad that they purchased such a quality smartphone, without glitches and problems.
Also, almost all users noted metal case smartphone with a matte finish, thanks to which the appearance does not deteriorate due to fingerprints.
And of course, there are dual cameras on the front and back, which allow you to take high-quality pictures even in poor lighting. And selfie lovers praised the photo quality of the front camera. In general, Huawei smartphone manufacturers rely on cameras, because... For many buyers, the quality of photos and videos is a priority when choosing mobile phone. And even such a middle-class smartphone has a quite advanced camera built in. Respect to the developers.
Several owners praised the sound of the headphones, the lack extraneous noise and the ability to customize the equalizer to your liking. The same applies to the quality of communication; when talking on the phone, the interlocutor can be heard very well.
Those who like to block access to their personal device strangers noted the excellent performance of the fingerprint scanner, as well as the face unlock function, which works without problems even if the owner wears glasses. In complete darkness this function It doesn’t work very efficiently, but I think the light picture on the screensaver will work good decision this shortcoming.
There were no negative comments about the battery life either; everyone is happy; with active use, the battery lasts about 40 hours.
I almost forgot, representatives of the fair sex, every single one, noted the beautiful design of the smartphone. The large display and beautiful appearance attracts the attention of girls. Huawei Y9 is sold in 3 colors: black, blue and gold.

Internet
