Joomla 1.5 install module materials in the archive. What is a module

Hi all! Finally, wait! Today we will start filling our site useful information! We will learn how to create and publish materials, work with the appropriate manager.

Material in Joomla- this is not a page of the site as such, it is only information that can be displayed in the content area. Once again, I want to remind you that Joomla pages are created using menu items. Their content consists of:

  1. information in the central area (content area) - they are responsible for it;
  2. information around the perimeter of the content area - formed by .

The material must belong to any category.

A similar hierarchy is typical for other Joomla elements - notes, contacts, news feeds, links, and so on.

Create and edit

Go to Material Manager. To add new information to Joomla, use the "Create" button in the toolbar (toolbar).

All basic settings are located on the left in the block called "Create Material".

  • Title is a required field. To display the title on the site or not, you can set in the "Display Options" subsection on the right.
  • Alias - automatically populated if Joomla is configured with .
  • Category - we have already talked about categories.
  • Status - there are four states to choose from: published, not published, archived, in the trash. We'll talk about states in more detail below.
  • Access — set the access level.
  • Rights - rights are configured at the very bottom of the page.
  • Favorites - mark as favorite.
  • Language - Specify the language.
  • ID is a unique identification number.
  • The text of the material - and here is the field for entering information.

Joomla provides three content creation/editing tools to choose from:

  1. TinyMCE - visual editor;
  2. CodeMirror - editor with code syntax highlighting;
  3. Without an editor - there's nothing, a blank window without any help in text formatting.

Display Options

For each material, you can set your own display parameters, but it is better to set the default values \u200b\u200band immediately and use them in the future. The default display options are set in the Material Manager settings.

Just mark as "Show" those items that you are interested in. Difficulties with understanding the options should not arise, because when you hover over them with the mouse cursor, a hint appears in Russian.

Go to the category manager and click the "Create" button in the toolbar.

Most of the settings are identical to those already discussed above. Only the option "Parent" has appeared, which allows you to set the parent category. If you leave "No parent", then the category will be top level. The description of the category should be filled in when you are going to display it on the pages of the site.

Display Options

Categories have their own display options, which can be set both for a separate category and for all at once. The default values for display options are set in the Category Manager settings.

To deal with them, use the hints for each parameter. Also, don't be afraid to experiment. We set some settings - looked at the result, did not like it - experiment further.

Display settings can be overridden when setting the corresponding menu item responsible for displaying them on the site pages.

Material condition

To change the state, check the required material and use the buttons in the toolbar. There are 5 states in total:

  • Published - the material is ready for publication and it remains only to create the appropriate menu item to display it on the site page.
  • Unpublished - if there is already a page with this material, then when unpublishing it, the page will generate a 404 error - page not found.
  • Favorites - Items marked as favorites can be displayed separately from others.
  • Archived - articles sent to the archive are automatically grouped by month. The archive can be displayed either in the content area of a single page, using the Archived Content menu type, or using the Archived Content module.
  • In Trash — move to the Trash and then empty it.

Only by going to the basket, you can clean it. To do this, mark unnecessary items and click on the "Empty Trash" button in the toolbar.

For the elite, there is even a separate section.

Five of the six buttons from the toolbar shown in the picture above have been dismantled, leaving only one - "Unblock". Joomla is multi-user, that is, several people can work simultaneously with its admin panel. In order to avoid such that several users work with one material at once, Joomla automatically blocks access to it after the first opening. Thus: while one user edits the material, it becomes inaccessible to other users.

The lock is removed immediately after the correct closing - pressing the "Save and close" or "Close" button. In case the material was closed incorrectly, using the back button in the browser or simply by closing the browser tab, the material remains blocked. A lock icon appears next to its name in the manager.

If the material is not currently in use, then you can unlock it by clicking on this lock icon, or tick it and use the "Unlock" button from the toolbar.

To unblock all inactive material in Joomla, use the "Site" - "Maintenance" - "Unblocking" section.

Joomla allocates a separate /images folder for media files on the server. You can work with it both directly, for example through ftp client, and through the Media Manager section.

There is nothing complicated in working with the media manager. On the right you can see the directory tree, which is located in the /images folder, on the left is the contents of the selected directory, and at the bottom is the "Create directory" button and a form for uploading new files to the server.

The toolbar has three buttons:

  • Help — brief instructions for working with the media manager in English.
  • Delete - Deletes the selected directory or file. Note that there is no recycle bin here, so it is deleted immediately and permanently.
  • Settings - now we will consider them.
  • Allowed extensions — a comma-separated list of file extensions available for uploading to the server.
  • Maximum size (in MB) - Joomla will prevent the upload of files larger than the size specified in this paragraph. Enter "0" to remove restrictions. In addition, the server itself can impose its own restrictions on the maximum allowed size of uploaded files.

Path to the directory with files and images - you can override the folder for storing media files. According to the warning, redefining the directory for honey files can lead to broken links, so you should be careful with this, especially if you are already using files from standard folder/images.

  • Download Restriction - makes it unavailable to download media files for users with rights lower than "Manager".
  • Check file type (MIME) — filter files uploaded to the server by their type and extension. Allowed/prohibited types and extensions are specified in the options below.
  • There is also image filtering, which is performed by extension - the option "Allowed image extensions"
  • Use Flash Downloader - Allows you to download multiple files at once.

Publication on the site

In Joomla, menu items are responsible for creating site pages, and menu item types are responsible for their content. So, to display material on the pages of the site, you should use the menu item of one of seven types:

  1. Archived Materials - Displays a list of archived materials.
  2. Material - The specific material will be displayed in the content area of the page.
  3. List of all categories - Displays a list of categories.
  4. Category Blog - displays a description of the selected category and its children.
  5. List of category materials - displays a list of materials with brief description from a certain category
  6. Favorites - Displays a list of favorites.
  7. Create material — page with a form for creating a new material. Only available to registered users with permissions to add new content to Joomla. For other readers, a page with an error 403 - Access Denied will appear.

In addition, Joomla modules can be added to the site with links to existing pages with categories and materials:

  • Categories - displays a list of categories that belong to one common parent category.
  • News - displays a fixed number of articles from one or more categories. The selection criterion can be the date of publication, the date of creation, the order in which they appear, or randomly.
  • Most read - a list of articles with the most views.
  • Category Content List - Displays a list of content in one or more categories.
  • Materials in the archive - a list of records from the archive, sorted by month according to the date of their creation.

Installation and removal of components is done in the Joomla 1.5 admin panel.

How to install a new component.

  • Login to Joomla admin panel
  • Select an item from the menu installation - components
  • Click - install new component
  • In the Download installation package section, click the Browse button
  • Select the archive with the component on the local machine
  • Click download and install

Note:

if the message “Another component is already occupying the folder...” is displayed during component installation, this means that the component is either already installed or was incorrectly removed (some files remained from the previous installation). In the second case, you must delete the files and folders left from the previous installation of the component.

if a warning is issued that you need to enable compatibility mode, go to the plugins and find (look carefully, the list of plugins is not on one page, scroll through and find turn on Compatibility Mode)

Installing a new joomla 1.5 component manually

  • Unpack the component distribution kit on the computer to any folder
  • We connect to Denver, if you are working with it on the local or via FTP to your server
  • In the root directory of Joomla 1.5 we find the media folder, and create some directory in it, let's say /mopsik
  • Copy files and folders from the component distribution kit to the created folder on local server(or just on the server)
  • Login to the Joomla 1.5 admin panel
  • Select an item from the menu installation - components
  • We open install new component
  • In chapter install from directory specify the full path on the server to the directory with the component distribution kit (for example /media/mopsik/) Click install

Removing a joomla 1.5 component

  • Login to Joomla admin panel
  • Select an item from the menu installation - components
  • We see the list installed components
  • Select the component you want to remove from the list
  • Click delete

Note: when uninstalling, all component data is permanently deleted.

But you should pay attention to the following:

  • When removing components, some files created during the operation of the component may remain on the server, and this may create problems when reinstalling the component. Therefore, just in case, you should check if the component directories in /components/ and /administrator/components/ have been deleted.
  • Some components leave their tables in the database during uninstallation. Sometimes this can be useful - for example when updating components. If you definitely decide to delete the component, make sure that there are no tables left from the deleted component in the database.

User support is on another forum https://joomla.com.ua/

In this lesson, let's see what you need and how to set up the "Materials in the archive" module of the Joomla site.

About module Archived materials

I will immediately note that the Materials in the archive module is a very small module with a minimum of settings. In the Joomla site directory, this module is located in the /mod_articles_archive folder. If you want to do system editing module, welcome to the file /mod_articles_archive/default.php.

Let me remind you that the version of the module is not reset after updating the system, redefine the edited module file on the tab Templates>>>Create redefinition. We are looking for "Modules" in the left column, the system name of the module is mod_articles_archive . This module does not belong to any other component.

Module tasks

The "Materials in the archive" module is needed to display on the frontend of the site NOT the materials themselves that you have placed in the archive. This module displays a list of calendar months in which materials were archived. For example, May 2018, June 2018, etc.

It may seem that this module does not really matter for site navigation. This is true if you have few materials, and you do not create an archive as unnecessary.

On the other hand, if you have an archive, then there is no other way to compactly show the archive by date on the frontend of the site. There is a menu item "Archived materials", but it displays a list of archive articles by category.

So if you need to show your users an archive of materials by year and month, the Materials module in Joomla archive For you.

Articles are stored by creation date, not archived date. In module bOnly those months and years where there are archived articles will be displayed.This list is generated automatically.

How to create

  • To create a material module in the archive, go to the tab Extensions>>>Modules >>>Create.
  • From the list, select the type of module "Materials - Materials in the archive".
  • Fill in the required settings.
  • We save and publish in the selected position of the template for modules.

How to setup

As I said, this module does not have many settings.

First of all, you definitely need to give the module a name.

class="eliadunit">

Don't forget to fill in the right side of the settings. Here, as always:

  • Allow or disable the display of the module header;
  • Specify the status of the module (Published-Unpublished-In the cart),
  • Select the position of the module to display. If you want to create several similar modules, make one module in the "NO" position, and then multiply with the "Batch processing" button.

Additional settings module is a personal matter. By default, they are quite reasonable.

Module management rights (access rights) depend on your work with different user levels.

Module archive module not working

On version 3.9.1, when creating the "Archive materials" module, the module itself is created normally, the list of months with years of creation of materials that are placed in the archives is created correctly.

However, when calling the month of the archive materials (clicking on the link with the month and year of the archive), there is NO list of materials. The filter does NOT work.

I managed to fix this error like this:

  • Open the Materials tab. On the right, at the top, click the "Settings" button;
  • On the Materials>>Settings>>General settings tab, in the "Sorting date" item, the value should be "Created". Let me remind you that in the archives materials are sorted by the date of creation, and not by the date they were placed in the archive.

After installing the Joomla management system on a local or virtual server, we are faced with the question: how to install the template and where to download it? In this tutorial, we will look at how to install a template in Joomla and what methods of installing templates exist. Choosing and installing a template is an important step that should be given special attention. I will also give examples and solutions to problems that may appear during the installation of the template.

- go to view

See the link above for a guide on how to install a template in Joomla 3 version!

There are two ways to install a template in Joomla: using the standard Joomla installation to install / remove and manually, by copying the template files to the templates folder.

Method one. Install the template in Joomla with a standard installer.

First, download the template that we want to install. After the archive with the template is downloaded, you need to make sure that the downloaded archive contains exactly the template, and not the archive with templates, or, as it often happens, that the archive contains several more archives. The Joomla Template archive must have a zip extension, and the archive must contain the following files:

  1. templateDetails.xml - used to install the template in the admin interface;
  2. index.php - contains the entire structure (code) of the template.
  3. params.ini - needed by Joomla to save your settings

Also make sure that the archive contains folders:

  1. css - contains style sheets
  2. images - this folder contains images used in the template
  3. js - JavaScript script files (jquery.js , mootools.js , scripts.js )

In the example, not all files and folders that are in the Joomla template. The number of files and folders depends on the template itself, I just listed only those that are basically in all joomla templates and without which the template will not work.

For example, if you downloaded a template, and there are several more archives in the archive, then by these signs you can easily determine which of the archives is the template and install it.

It should be noted that when choosing a template, you need to pay attention to the date of its release and how it corresponds to the version of Joomla with which you are working.

For example, some of the older release templates no longer work in Joomla 1.5 or display incorrectly.

Note: An archive with a template for installation via a standard installer/uninstaller must have a .zip or .tar.gz extension

In the administrative panel, select "Extensions" - "install / remove" Next, select the archive with your template on your computer and click the " Download File & Install". If the template matches your version of Joomla, after a few seconds the template will be downloaded and installed, you will see a message that the template has been successfully installed.

After the template is installed, select "Extensions" - "Template Manager". In the Template Manager, you will see all installed templates and the template you just installed. (By default, two standard templates are already installed in Joomla: rhuk_milkyway and JA_Purity) Select the desired template by checking the radio button next to the template and click the "Default" button.

The second way to install a template in Joomla

This method can be used when you need to install a large number of templates or just there are cases when the template is not installed in a standard way install/remove.

To install the template in this way, you need to unpack the archive with the template into a folder (the folder name can be anything, the main thing is in English letters). Next, we launch the FTP client and open the /templates folder on the site for which we install the template and upload our template folder into it.

If your site is on a local server, then you just need to copy our folder to the /templates/ folder. If you want to change the name of the template, then in the template folder you need to find the templateDetails.xml file, open it with notepad or any text editor and find the line with the tag august, August is the name of the template, change it to any other (do not forget to write in Latin letters).

As I said, by default, Joomla already has two, sometimes three standard templates installed: rhuk_milkyway and JA_Purity, which you can safely use when creating your project.

To date, the choice of templates for the site is very large, and developers even divide them by subject: templates for business sites, for entertainment portals, holiday, real estate, music, social networks, cinema, video, sports, tourism and many others.

It is worth noting that some of the templates are created on a commercial basis and before using them, you must pay the developer, otherwise it will be considered copyright infringement. Therefore, before installing this or that template on the site, check the author, there are a huge number of them now, and under what conditions he provides the template for use.

If a large number of templates are loaded, and you do not remember the name of the desired template, then when you hover over the link with the name of each of the list, you can view its thumbnail.

When choosing a template, you also need to pay attention to its structure, blocks and positions that it includes. After all, before creating a site, you probably already planned what and where it will be located on it: whether there will be a header (usually this is a picture placed on top, it is also called the site header), logo, top or vertical menu, number of blocks per page, etc.

In order to check the positions in a particular template, you can type in the address bar of your browser http://your site/?tp=1 and you will see all the possible positions of the template and their names.

The customer contacted the web development studio "Engine" with a request to update his site. The tasks were as follows: update Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5 and install a new adaptive template, while keeping all the site content (materials, sections, menus, etc.). In this article, we will describe how to make a site migration and save all site content.

We break the work into three stages:

1. Saving the site. We make a full backup of the site. Checking hosting parameters for Joomla 2.5
2. Automatic update Cms Jomla 1.5 to version 2.5 via jUpgrade component
3. Installing a responsive template via quickstart
4. Replacing tables which are responsible for the content of the site, menus, sections

So, let's begin.

Point 1. Preparatory work before migrating Joomla

If you decide to migrate Joomla 1.5 before starting work, you need to conduct a preliminary analysis and preparation of the site.

First of all, check if your hosting meets the requirements to work with Joomla 2.5. To install version J 2.5, the following hosting build is required:

PHP version must be from 5.2.4;
MySQL version 5.0.4 and above;
Support Apache hosting version 2.x,

To check, you do not need to go to the server, just log in to the site's administrative panel. Find in the top menu Help >>> System Information. Here you will find necessary information about your hosting software.

For the correct operation of the jUpgrade component, you need to check if the cURL module is enabled on the hosting. It's usually on. To check, go to the admin. hosting panel, then " PHP Information» and in cURL line must be enable.

Site backup

Important to remember!

Do all your extensions support version 2.5? To check, use the Joomla Extensions Directory search, there you will see which extensions support version 2.5 and 3.0. Please note that jUpgrade is not yet capable of updating all 3rd generation extensions on its own. Here is the list of extensions it updates: AcyMailing, AdminPraise, Akeeba Backup, BreezingForms, CompoJoomComment, CommunityBuilder, Contact Enhanced, Hikashop, JCE, jEvents, JomSocial, Jumi, K2, Kunena, SobiPro, redFORM, redMEMBER, redSHOP, RSGallery 2, VirtueMart .

All other extensions will have to be updated manually, or not updated at all. In our case, the following third-party extensions are installed on the site:
joomlaComment, Community Builder, XMap, FireBoard, uddeIM

Have you made any changes to the kernel files? Be careful, all changes will be lost.

Is your template compatible with version 2.5? If not, would you be comfortable switching to one of the standard ones?

Is there localization in the version you want to upgrade to? Check it out.

If you have rights to create and edit Joomla 1.5 files and folders?

Create a backup and a copy of the copy!

Missing this moment is perhaps the most fatal mistake of all. if you have backup copy, you can roll back changes whenever you want. If you do not follow this advice, in case something goes wrong, the data recovery process will result in a waste of time.

We save the site database and all directories and files of the site.

Point 2. Updating Joomla with the jUpgrade component

Requirements for the jUpgrade component to migrate (upgrade) Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5:

PHP v5.2.4 or later
IIS/Windows: MySQL v5.1 - Linux/Apache: MySQL v5.0.4+
Curl module of PHP enabled
Joomla 1.5.19 preferably 1.5.25
Included System Plugin - Mootools Plugin Update
Browser with Javascript and jQuery support

Download and install latest version jUpgrade. It is very important to use the latest available version, as a large number of errors are fixed with each release.

Then install it as a regular Joomla extension. Next, to work this extension needed Mootools Upgrade Plugin

After installation, go to the plugin manager and activate it.

After installation, go to the control panel of the JUpgrade component.

Then in the options this component.

Distribution - the version of the engine to which we are updating;
SQL Driver - driver for working with the database;
Target Directory - the folder in which the new site will be saved;
Prefix for old database - prefix of tables (outdated version);
Prefix for new database - table prefix for the new engine;
Disable set_time_limit () - disable the time limit for performing update operations;
Disable Error Reporting - disable error reporting.
Skip checks - disable checking;
Skip download - skip download, if YES, then you need to write to the folder with the new site source files Joomla, i.e. Joomla 2.5 distribution;
Skip unpacking - if not, then the distribution will be unpacked;
Skip templates copy - skip copying templates. Only standard templates are supported;
Skip 3rd party extensions - skip updating third party extensions.
Skip users - skip transferring users to new version;
Skip categories - skip transferring categories to the new version;
Skip content - skip content transfer to the new version;
Skip menus - skip moving the menu to the new version;
Skip modules - skip modules transfer to the new version;
Skip banners – skip moving banners to the new version;
Skip contacts - skip transferring contacts to the new version;
Skip newsfeeds - skip moving the news feed to the new version;
Skip weblinks - Skip link wrapping.
Keep original positions? – keep the original positions of the modules;
Delete previous migration - delete previous update attempts;
Enable migration debug - enable debug mode;
Enable Mootools version debug - Mootools debugging mode;

Important!
In parameters specify the folder for storing the updated version of the engine, if necessary (we left it by default), we also cancel the distribution download and unpacking. Since in jupgrade folder we will copy the Joomla 2.5 distribution. Therefore, download the Joomla 2.5 distribution and unpack it into jupgrade folder.

Joomla update. Solving the problem with JavaScript

After the settings, save the changes and return to the component control panel. Now you can start updating by clicking on the appropriate button. We would like to note that the "Start Update" button was not working, which means that there is a JavaScript error.
You can fix it by editing the file media/system/js/modal.js , where you need to find the line:

this.setOptions(this.presets);

And replace with:

this.options=this.presets;

This replacement should only be done after configuring the jUpgrade component. Next, we update:

After the update is completed, the component provides us with links - to the user part of our site and to the admin panel. Now the updated version of the engine is contained in the jupgrade folder. Wherein this version uses the newly created tables, with the prefix that was specified when configuring JUpgrade. That is, you and I received a completely new site, with its own file structure and its own database.

Now you need delete all source files of the old 1.5 engine and replace with new ones jupgrade folders). In the database, you also need to delete the tables that were used by the old version of Joomla (delete all tables whose prefix jos is in our case).

As you can see, this is indeed Joomla 2.5. Now if we look at the installed components, we will see that the Community Builder has remained installed, it has been ported to a new version of the engine, and for it to work correctly, we also need to reinstall it. Therefore, we download the latest version of the component and install it as a regular Joomla extension. After that, you can make sure that all the data of this component was successfully transferred to the new version of the engine. All content from previous version Joomla: content, categories, and menus.

Template installation

Thus, we have completed the upgrade of Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5. It remains only to install the template that was used earlier. To do this, open the templateDetails.xml file ( given file contained in the template archive) and make a few changes to it in accordance with the requirements of Joomla 2.x. Namely, we change the install block to the extension block:

The parameter block is also replaced in accordance with the following form:

After that, you can install the template on the new Joomla engine (again, having previously created a zip archive). Of course, there is still a lot to fix in this template before it becomes completely identical. old version. But in any case, it is already working and outputting information.

After making all the edits to the template, you need to update the positions of the modules and check the performance of the site as a whole.
This completes the update.

Point 3. Installing a Responsive Modern Template via Quickstart with Content Preservation

Step 1.
- After we have updated the site, we enter the site database and copy individual site tables, namely:

Materials:
#_content - Content
#_content_rating - Content in the rating
#_contentitem_tag_map

Partition manager:
#_categories

Home Page Manager:
#_content_frontpage

Menu:
#_menu - All site menu items (back-end + front-end).
#_menu_types - Back-end menu.

Select these tables in the database and Save.

We save just in case the entire updated site. After that, we download an adaptive template with the ability to " quick start". This is a tested version of the CMS, as well as your Joomla template with all the necessary functional modules and components. All you have to do is upload these files to the server that will host your site.

The archive of such a template has a directory: QuickStart

The number of folders and their names may differ depending on the different manufacturers templates. As a rule, the QuickStart folder weighs more than the rest, except, of course, for the PSD source folder. In general, it will not be difficult to find it.

Then you need to: unpack the archive, which is located in . The unpacked folder should contain the following documents:

Now, in the address bar of the browser, enter the URL of your site. If you did everything correctly, then the start page of the Joomla installer will open. It looks like this:

We enter all the data of our hosting and the data of our site.
After that the site is installed! Template and modules with components - works. BUT the content on the site is DEMO. It remains to replace the content with your own.

Step 3. Replacing the content in the site.

We enter phpMyAdmin and delete from the database the tables that we previously copied to our PC. Namely:

#_content
#_content_rating
#_contentitem_tag_map
#_categories
#_content_frontpage
#_menu
#_menu_types

After removal. We add the same tables copied earlier to our database.
As a result, we get: An updated "engine" Joomla 2.5 with an installed adaptive template and all the necessary modules and components + the content of the site as it was before (materials, sections, menus). Which is what needed to be done.

If you need to do this - but you do not want to do it yourself - you can contact our studio with this problem, we can do it. Just write to us: [email protected] and describe the problem.

That's all, if you want to "thank" ours - you have such an opportunity: on the right there are options for donations for the development of the portal. Or share the article on your social networks through the services below.
