Motorola Moto X - Specifications. Motorola Moto X Review – Brand New Motorola Moto X Smartphones

For many years, Motorola has been pleasing users with a variety of gadgets that are pleasant in price and design, and most importantly, in quality. This time they also decided to keep up with global trends and released, if not the flagship, then close to it, the Moto X Play model, reviews of which speak of good ratio price-quality-performance. But first things first.

Factory equipment

The Moto X Play LTE smartphone is delivered, despite the fact that it is far from a budget one, in a simple cardboard box. In it you can find a branded charging box with two outputs of different power, a USB cable, a paper clip, made again in the corporate style, and documents. There is no battery in the list, since it is non-removable and is already installed in the smartphone.

As many Play buyers note, for such a price they expected a richer bundle, but there was no cover or headset in the box. Yes, and even simple protective glass was not, however, all these accessories can be purchased separately.

Design and appearance

The smartphone has received quite impressive dimensions. It's called like large display, and rather wide frames around it. Capacious battery also makes itself felt, as a result of which the thickness of the smartphone was as much as 11 mm. These figures also affected the weight of the gadget, which reached 169 grams. Not critical, but for some users it may not be entirely comfortable.

Despite such indicators, you quickly get used to the Moto X Play Black smartphone, however, like most models from this manufacturer. The phone is easy to hold, it does not slip out of the hands thanks to the rubberized back cover, on which a nice wavy ornament is also applied.

In the factory version, the back panel is only black or white, but additional panels in seven more colors are sold separately as an accessory, so the smartphone can be as unique as possible.

The rest of the gadget Motorola Moto X Play 16Gb completely repeated the corporate design that fans have been familiar with over the past few years. Even the control elements are located exactly the same as on previous flagship devices.

Display and touch panel

As in most modern devices middle class, a high-quality display is installed here, made according to the IPS standard and having a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. This is quite enough for the picture to be pleasant, and the pixelization is not striking even with very painstaking examination.

In addition, such a matrix allows you to save battery power Motorola Moto X Play, while not bringing discomfort in operation. The viewing angles are very wide, the colors do not change, even if you look at the display almost parallel to the phone. The margin of brightness is quite sufficient to operate the device in very bright sunlight, but the lower threshold is a little big and slightly blinding in complete darkness, you need to get used to it.

The touch panel is protected by glass 3, which allows you to use your smartphone without a protective film. However, it is worth remembering that the glass is scratch resistant, but it can still break, so you should use it as carefully as possible. missing, but there were no problems removing prints from the glass.

Sound through headphones and speakers

Despite the fact that there are two slots for speakers on the front panel of the device, in fact only the lower one is polyphonic, while the upper one serves only for conversations. Nevertheless, the main musical speaker pleased with its sound. I can't say it's perfect, but overall it's pretty good. The volume is at a sufficient level to hear the call signal on a noisy street, while the sound quality does not suffer, there is no rattling.

The location of the speaker on the main front panel contributed to a more comfortable viewing of videos and listening to music. No matter how the Moto X Play smartphone lies on a table or other surface, there are no obstacles to the sound, so it is not distorted.

In headphones, the sound also did not let us down. The volume is quite enough, sometimes even too much. The frequencies are revealed quite well, there is no excess of any particular frequency. If desired, you can bring the sound to the ideal using the equalizer.

Front and main cameras

In this matter, the manufacturer decided not to waste time on trifles and install the same modules as in their flagship models. The differences are due only to the capabilities of the processors. On the this device video cannot be recorded in 4K resolution, only 1920x1080, but this is quite enough for a high-quality video. Also, the frequency is reduced to 540 frames per second.

Otherwise, the performance is quite worthy of the flagship. The main camera is a 21-megapixel module from Sony, which is enough to compete with inexpensive cameras in good light in terms of image quality. But, given the low aperture of the Moto X Play 16Gb optics itself, which is inherent in any phone, noise will inevitably appear in the dark or in low light. The flash can correct this situation only at a distance of up to 2 meters, and even then not completely.

The front camera is ideal for video calling. With it, you can take selfies, but the quality here will be noticeably worse than that of the main one. Noise appears under lighting other than bright sunlight, so you should not hope for a good shot indoors.

"Iron" characteristics

The manufacturer decided not to betray the tradition of modern mid-range smartphones, so the Moto X Play LTE main processor was a Qualcomm chip called Snapdragon 615, which has 8 cores at 1.7 GHz. It has an Adreno 405 graphics accelerator and is paired with 2 GB DDR3 RAM.

Not the most brilliant characteristics for such a price, but the solution is quite productive and energy efficient, so there should definitely not be any problems with the comfort of using a smartphone. To store user files, as well as system programs 16 GB flash memory is provided. If it turns out to be small (and it will most likely be if you download videos and movies in high quality), then you can expand it using a card microSD memory up to 128 GB, without having to choose, as in most modern smartphones, between a second SIM card or additional memory. This moment positively distinguishes the Moto X Play model from competitors, reviews repeatedly emphasize the benefits of such a solution.

In synthetic tests, the Motorola Moto X Play 16Gb smartphone did not show any unique results, rather mediocre values for this price segment. So, Antutu gives out about 42,000 points, depending on the firmware version.

When testing with real applications, there were no problems. The smartphone can easily cope with work in several instant messengers at the same time, while simultaneously allowing you to keep a browser with several tabs and a video player in memory. It also seems to cope with heavy games without much difficulty, but in this case it is better to close unnecessary programs to free more space in the operating room.

Software

As in other lines of smartphones from the manufacturer, the Moto X Play 16Gb gadget received pure Android with a minimum set of additional functions. This makes the system lightweight and energy efficient. Most devices are supported on high level, therefore, despite the fresh operating system version 6.0.1 out of the box, you can expect a large number updates. It is also possible to upgrade the version to a more up-to-date one, so that fans will always be with the latest on this moment software can safely take this device.

Battery and autonomy

The gadget is equipped with a fairly tenacious battery with a capacity of 3630 mAh. And, if for flagship models this figure may seem small due to the rather demanding hardware, in this model everything turned out just fine. A processor with a relatively low power consumption and an economical screen allow you to use your smartphone throughout the day, loading it to the maximum and not worrying that the charge will not be enough until the evening.

The Moto X Play device, which has only positive reviews about its autonomy, comes with a charging box that can charge the gadget’s battery from 0 to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. However, this time can be reduced by a factor of three, and spend a little more than an hour on a full charge, because the device supports the function fast charging. True, for this you will have to spend money on an additional accessory called TurboCharger. Given the cost of the smartphone, however, it is strange that this option is not included in the package.

Positive aspects according to user reviews

Since the smartphone went on sale only in the summer of 2016, there are not so many reviews about it. But from those that are at the moment, it is already possible to add up a clear picture that pleases the eye of a lover of high-quality technology. So among strengths the Moto X Play model, reviews of which have just begun to appear on the network, can be noted:

  • The main camera with a resolution of 21 MP and high-quality optics. In terms of creating high-quality pictures and recording video in its price segment, the smartphone has practically no equal. Its only drawback can be called, perhaps, insufficient aperture for shooting at night, but given that we have a moto X Play 16Gb smartphone in our hands, and not a camera, then this moment is inherent in all devices with a small matrix size.
  • Nice design. As with most gadgets from this manufacturer, the smartphone is pleasing to the eye and feels good in the hand. It also attracts a number of additional options that allow you to individualize your gadget. To do this, for example, you can purchase a suitable Moto X Play case that will emphasize your style and increase the safety of using the gadget.
  • Good autonomy. A capacious battery, paired with low-demanding hardware, allows you not to think about the presence of an outlet throughout the day, even with the active use of Moto X Play. The performance characteristics were not affected at all. And if the smartphone is used only for short calls, then it can last up to 3 days without recharging.
  • High quality display and sensor. A high-quality picture and excellent sensor sensitivity, paired with its high durability, are exactly what you need for comfortable use of a smartphone without worrying about scratches. If you are interested in color accuracy indicators, you can find more than one Moto X Play review on the net, which reveals the results of tests of the display matrix, from a laboratory point of view.

As you can see, the smartphone can satisfy the needs of even the most demanding users. However, even in such seemingly ideal models have their shortcomings.

Negative points based on reviews

Most of the negative aspects do not concern performance, but still do not honor the manufacturer, although in most cases you can close your eyes to them. Among them are the following:

  • Poor starter kit. The lack of additional components in the out-of-the-box version was an unpleasant bonus for many buyers. The smartphone has a large number of branded accessories, but you will have to buy them all separately. And this is taking into account that they can not always be found on sale, in most cases you will have to order blindly via the Internet. Considering that the Moto X Play price is not so low, the kit could have at least included a block and a cable for accelerated battery charging.
  • Enough high price. If you purchase a Moto X Play smartphone not through an exchange program from the manufacturer, the cost may seem overpriced. If you do not take into account the camera, similar models from other manufacturers can be purchased at almost half the price, so in most cases this model is suitable for purchase by fans of the company.
  • A small amount of built-in memory, taking into account such characteristics, as a result of which its expansion is simply necessary.

Otherwise, users are happy with everything, and you can ignore such shortcomings, which practically do not affect performance.

Conclusion

A smartphone is a high-quality and productive solution for solving all everyday tasks related to communication and communication. You should not expect fantastic performance from him, but he copes with all applications without much difficulty. The good autonomy and pleasant design of the Moto X Play model, the review of which makes it possible to draw conclusions about the smartphone, can attract those who do not want to lose face in front of business partners.

Slightly inflated, as for the Moto X Play model, the price will not allow you to buy a smartphone with a low income, so this model It will be optimal for business, but it can also be a great gift for a loved one. The choice of the intended use of this model is truly unlimited, so it all depends on you, desire and available budget.

I think many still remember those times when our market mobile phones such giants as Nokia, Siemens and Motorola ruled. I myself was an adherent of the last of them. I owned both the T180 and the C650 and even the first MPx200 smart clamshell. Since then, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge, and I think it's no secret to anyone that we won't see any new phones under these brands in the near future. But enough about the sad, today the hero of our review - Moto X 16Gb Black - the latest device released by Motorola under the wing of Google. Let's see what results this cooperation has brought. Beware, there are a lot of letters in the review!

Choice

It all started with the fact that I was a little tired of my Jiayu G2S, which I bought a year and a half ago in the vastness of Ali Express. Yes, and there were complaints about his work: terrible GPS, slowdowns, lack of support from the manufacturer, problems with tachim when heated, etc. All this typical problems Chinese devices that release a dozen new models a year and do not have time to properly debug them. By the way, I would like to express my gratitude to the Russian community w3bsit3-dns.com, which, in fact, do their work for the Chinese and eliminate their flaws.

Based on the foregoing, I decided to take a device from a well-known manufacturer, always on Qualcomm SoC and with LTE support. Also, an important requirement for the phone was compactness within certain limits: no less than 4.5 and no more than 4.7 inches. I don't support the gigantomania that has plagued almost all mobile phone manufacturers in the last year, I just want a mobile phone to fit comfortably in a jeans pocket. I don’t really play games and I don’t chase cores either. Well, the last selection criterion is the price with delivery no more than 15,000 rubles. Many would have answered me - “take the Nexus 4 and don’t worry”, I would have taken it, but I accidentally came across the Moto X review and, as they say, it was hooked, or struck by nostalgia. Since then, I have not looked at other devices anymore.

Acquisition

In total, Moto X is available in 7 versions with support for various networks (WCDMA/CDMA/LTE). The amount of memory can be either 16 or 32 GB.
I will not describe everything in detail, I will leave only my recommendation for choosing a model and a pivot table with.

XT1052- European version of the device, without locks. But also the most expensive of all. LTE works in Russia.
XT1058- version for America, can be locked to the operator (AT&T). LTE works in Russia. For the AT&T operator, the device is assembled in the USA.
XT1053- differs from XT1058 in other LTE frequencies. LTE will not work in Russia. 3G is working.
XT1060- just like XT1053 does not support our LTE frequencies, 3G works.

pivot table

One of the features of Moto X was the ability to customize the device by the buyer through the MotoMaker.com service. The user can choose from various design of the phone, which even includes 3 options for finishing the cover under the tree. There you can put an inscription on the back cover. There is only one problem: ordering a phone from there directly will not work - the store only accepts cards issued in the USA. Although, with a strong desire, you can find an intermediary or a friend and assemble the device for yourself. Personally, I was satisfied with the standard design of a black device with a gray carbon back cover. It is also worth noting that the XT1058 model is assembled exclusively in the USA, unlike other models assembled in China.

I decided to order the device on ebay, I chose Moto X 16Gb Black with a radio module locked under AT&T. On the one hand, it is cheaper, but the AT&T unlock is always expensive and there is a chance that they will not be able to help you. It's up to everyone to decide whether the game is worth the candle or not. Personally, I was lucky, although I still had to be a little nervous.

Delivery

The seller sent the goods by service. For those who are not in the know, this is a way when the goods are sent to an Ebay postal address in the United States, and he, in turn, through several courier services, delivers the goods to you personally. In Russia, delivery is handled by SPSR-Express, which also asks you for passport data and draws up the goods at customs. They delivered it to me in 17 days, and 4 of them I was waiting for delivery in the region. Initially, the track can be viewed on Ebay and then tracked on the SPRS when they send you the invoice number.

Appearance and equipment

The parcel reached me safe and sound, the box without dents or damage. Initially, the phone comes in a retail box. In addition to the phone, the kit includes a USB cable and Charger 1A with 2 USB outputs. Unfortunately, I got the phone in a non-native box from AT&T with a 0.6A left charger. The phone itself was in a protective film, without traces of use. The seller also put a car charger as a bonus. I didn’t even print out either one or the other.

Appearance

P.S. I didn’t take pictures right away, the phone is already unlocked in the photo.

Characteristics

The phone fits comfortably in the hand thanks to the curved back cover. Although the device has the designation Black, but in fact the cover is made “under carbon” and has a gray color. The surface is slightly rough to the touch, but not textured. Hand marks remain, but are easily removed. The bezels on the screen are narrow, but there are no accidental clicks on the edges of the screen. The display is covered with Corning Gorilla® Glass 3 with a good oleophobic coating and an effective light filter.

Comparison of dimensions with iPhone 4S

The phone is built on the company's own chip - Motorola X8. This SoC includes:
2 CPU cores Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
4 GPU cores Adreno 320
1 L-NLP (Noise Reduction and Speech Recognition Processor) core
1 CCP core (processor for processing data from sensors and other calculations)

It's basically a dual-core Qualcomm with Motorola's tweaks to make it work with proprietary features like Touchless Control, Active Display, and Quick Capture while reducing power consumption.

LP-DDR2 RAM in the device 2 GB, internal memory in a 16 GB device, where “out of the box” about 11 GB is available to the user.

I ran the device in several popular benchmarks.

Test results

The results are quite normal, I think the performance is enough for most modern games. The weakest link, as expected, was the dual-core processor. This factor does not affect the operation of the device, after all, the processor frequency is decent, and the optimization from Google is worth a lot. Although, it's a little pity to see a 2-core solution in the flagship of the company.

The screen resolution is 1280 by 720 pixels, which is quite enough for a 4.7-inch display. Personally, I do not notice individual pixels and consider this resolution to be optimal for this size. The screen is made using AMOLED technology with excellent dynamic contrast ratios and (like everyone else) slightly oversaturated colors. At angles, the image does not fade, and at daylight the screen remains quite readable.

Photo display

The smartphone is equipped WiFi module operating in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The reception is confident, it sees access points that my Chinese device did not even find. See the signal level to the router located in the next office behind a brick wall under the spoiler.

WiFi signal strength

In addition to WCDMA networks, my model supports LTE Band 7, at the frequency of which 4G networks are being deployed in Russia. Below is an example of his work, where the smartphone acted as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Photo from a laptop screen, I apologize for the quality of the picture.

Speed on LTE

The battery in the device has an average capacity of 2200 mAh. In my usual mode of use, it lasts for one and a half - two days. It is worth noting that I work outside the city and the loss of communication with the device is a common occurrence here. On weekends, the device lives quietly for two days with average use. At the same time, Bluetooth and LTE are turned on 100% of the time.

Battery consumption

my typical day

Navigation on the smartphone works great. Below is the result of testing in the GPS Test. I measured the work, standing at the window facing the north side. The Internet was turned off, however A-GPS data seems to have been used.

To perceive information about the surrounding world, the smartphone is equipped various sensors. For a complete set, only an ambient temperature sensor is missing.

List of sensors from Antutu

The main camera in the phone has a resolution of 10.5 Mpx, frontal 2.1 Mpx. Video is recorded in Full HD H.264 at 17.2 Mbps at 30 frames per second. The native camera application does not allow you to change the quality and resolution of pictures. The LED flash is single, but powerful enough. It also features HDR and Slow Motion.

There are NFC and Miracast in the device, but, alas, it was not possible to check the performance.

Firmware and software features

Initially, in 2013, the smartphone was released with Android 4.2.2 on board. Later it received an update to the latest version 4.4 KitKat. Moreover, the release of new updates directly depends on the specific modification, and if for XT1058 AT & T latest version- 4.4.2, then for XT1053 T-Mobile is already 4.4.3. According to official statements, the release of the recently announced Android 5.0 L on Moto X is also planned.

The phone came to me with firmware 4.2.2, which I updated to version 4.4 via OTA. Official firmware not multilingual and no Russian language support.

Android Version

Installing unofficial firmware on the XT1058 is hampered by the fact that the bootloader is blocked in it. It is possible to partially correct the situation if the device has root rights, however, after such changes it is impossible to update the firmware “over the air”. So the best solution would be to switch the locale to Russian through the Morelocale2 program.

Now let's dwell on Motorola's proprietary technologies implemented in the smartphone.

Touchless Control - the device constantly listens to the surrounding background in anticipation of the code phrase "OK, Google". At the first start, he learns to recognize the voice of the owner and then reacts only to him. In fact, this is an add-on for Google Now, and when installing the Russian language in the search, it can, for example, execute the command “Write SMS to my Beloved - I will be home soon” without touching the phone. All this is available with the Internet, however, Touchless Control also has its own teams that work anytime and anywhere. It is very convenient to find out the current time and information about missed calls using the "Wat" s Up command. Or, for example, the phone will give sound signal, if you say the phrase "Find my phone".

Active Display - the phone perfectly understands when it is picked up. If this happens, it displays the current time on the screen and offers to unlock the device. This is very convenient - taking it out of your pocket, you can immediately unlock the screen without pressing the power button. In addition, the function periodically notifies you of missed calls or new SMS. The list of programs that are allowed to display information on it can be edited in the settings.

Quick Capture - this function allows you to start the camera without unlocking the screen by double-swinging the device along its vertical axis. Just like in the case of the Active Display, there were no random triggers.

Motorola Connect - allows you to view SMS and a list of incoming phone calls through Chrome browser on the computer. While hands did not reach to test this chip of the device.

Conclusion

Motorola turned out to be an ambiguous product, alas, in terms of its parameters, it does not reach the flagships of 2013, such as the Samsung S4 or HTC One M7. The blame for everything is the long development of the device, in which, according to rumors, Google has invested a lot of time and effort, but has not caught up with the market leaders. In addition, the smartphone was originally focused on the North American market, for which the devices were assembled at home. However, such an advertising move did not give the expected results - soon the US factory will be closed and all new Moto X will be assembled in China.

pros
- high build quality and materials
- work in 4G networks
- great screen
- 2GB RAM
- support from Google
- proprietary technologies from Motorola

Minuses
- 2-core processor
- lack of Russian language
- no slot for memory cards
- poor equipment
- no support for wireless charging

In the bottom line, we have an excellent phone for those who care about quality and who are not chasing cores and megapixels. For these people (including me), using this phone will bring real pleasure. An updated Moto X + 1 model is expected soon, where these shortcomings should be eliminated. Thank you all for your attention!

The Motorola Moto X is the second generation of phones with an improved screen, high-end processor, and infinitely customizable design, making the 2014 Moto X a true flagship device.

Motorola Moto X Phone Reviews

Last year, Motorola turned smartphone design on its head. Although the Moto X smartphone had a special beauty and personality, it could not compete with high-end smartphones.

This year, the Moto X stays true to its roots, but adds high specs that puts the device on par with any other flagship Android smartphone of 2014.

Custom Motorola Moto X

If you have seen the stylish Moto X, any other smartphone will seem boring to you. Thanks to Moto Maker, everyone can become a designer and make their phone the way they want it to be.

Appearance

Those who buy the new Motorola Moto X Smartphone will be able to choose from 25 different rear panels, including four types of genuine leather, natural wood, and other bright, colorful options.

New smartphone The Moto X is very similar to the previous model, but this time it has a bezel around it, it's premium metal instead of plastic. The metal looks and feels high-end. It also adds a nice shine to the phone. The slight curve of the case on the back makes it very comfortable to hold in the hand, and the matte surface gives a good grip.

The volume rocker sits below the power button on the right side, and the power button itself has a light texture to distinguish it from the volume button, which adds another little touch to the device. The headphone jack is placed at the top, while the micro-USB port is located at the bottom of the phone. Two speakers are located at the top and bottom on the front of the Motorola Moto X, while the camera, which has a round LED flash, is mounted on the back of the device.

Screen

This year, the Moto X smartphone is slightly larger than last year's model, mainly because the screen size is 5.2 inches. Even so, the difference in size is minimal at first glance, thanks to thinner bezels and space savings along the top and bottom of the phone.

Screen

The display is full HD, 1080p OLED so images look bright and crisp. If you're obsessed with pixels, you won't immediately notice that this isn't a Quad HD screen.

New phone Moto X runs under Android control 4.4.4 KitKat and unlike most other smartphone manufacturers, Motorola offers software in its purest form, with only a few changes and additions.

Excellent voice and gesture features

An interesting software extension is a voice assistant that recognizes your voice and responds only to it.

Voice Assistant moto x

Gesture control on the X is also possible. All you have to do is run your hand over the phone when it is "sleeping" and the watch will tell you the time. We found this feature to be incredibly useful and makes checking the time on the Moto X much easier than on any other smartphone, including the LG G3, which has a similar thing called indirect influence.

You can also turn on your phone, turn on the camera at any time, and perform other cool gestures for common tasks.

The first Moto X phone was a solid, mid-range smartphone, but this time Motorola is giving us a true flagship. The main specifications of Motorola Moto X are the same as those of others flagship smartphones, including Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with clock frequency 2.5 801 and 2 GB of RAM.

Moto X proved to be very fast in all tests. Application downloads and launches run smoothly, web searches at very fast speeds, and streaming YouTube video no buffering happens at times.

In addition to the processor and a large amount of RAM, the Moto X phone offers you a choice of 16 or 32 GB of memory. Unfortunately, there's no microSD slot, so you're limited in terms of storage, which you'll never find on the Galaxy S5, LG G3, and HTC One M8.

Motorola Moto X photo and camera

The 13MP camera on the back has a much higher resolution than the 10MP shooter on the back. previous version. The camera focuses very quickly, but sometimes misses. In bright lighting conditions, everything tends to be in bright colors, especially if you focus on the wrong things.

In low light, the photos of the Moto X are slightly grainy, and so are the videos.

2 megapixel front-camera works well for selfies and will handle video chat needs without issue.

Overall, we're not overly impressed with the cameras. They work well, but as with most Motorola phones, they're far from impressive.

The data transfer speed is fast and we didn't have any problems with the network. The call quality was also excellent, we had no problems with hearing or the microphone.

Battery

The Moto X smartphone has a 2300mAh battery that allows you to use your smartphone intensively for a full day.

Conclusion

The Motorola Moto X is an improved second generation smartphone that features a new screen, high-end processor, and an infinitely customizable design.

Motorola's first Moto X was a solid mid-range smartphone, but this year's new Moto X is undeniably high-end and already at the same level as most other flagship phones, but it's the most customizable smartphone you can buy.
