Reinstalled Windows, no wifi. Solving the problem with channel congestion

This manual provides details on why a Wi-Fi connection may not work on a laptop in Windows 10, 8 and Windows 7. The following describes step by step the most common scenarios related to the performance of a wireless network and how to solve them.

Most often, problems with Wi-Fi connections, expressed in the absence of available networks or access to the Internet after connection, occur after updating or installing (reinstalling) the system on a laptop, updating drivers, installing third party programs(especially antiviruses or firewalls). However, other situations are also possible that also lead to these problems.

The material will discuss the following main options for the “Wi-Fi not working” situation in Windows:

  1. I can’t turn on Wi-Fi on my laptop (red cross on the connection, message that there are no connections available)
  2. The laptop does not see your router’s Wi-Fi network, but sees other networks
  3. The laptop sees the network, but does not connect to it
  4. The laptop connects to Wi-Fi networks, but pages and sites do not open

In my opinion, I have indicated all the most likely problems that may arise when connecting a laptop to a wireless network, let’s begin to solve these problems.

How to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop

Not all laptops have the wireless network module enabled by default: in some cases, you need to perform certain actions for it to work. It is worth noting here that everything described in this section is fully applicable only if you did not reinstall Windows, replacing the one that was installed by the manufacturer. If you did this, then some of what will be written about now may not work, in this case - read the article further, I will try to take into account all the options.

Turn on Wi-Fi using keys and a hardware switch

On many laptops, in order to enable the ability to connect to wireless Wi-Fi networks, you need to press a key combination, a single key, or use a hardware switch.

In the first case, to turn on Wi-Fi, you use either just a function key on the laptop, or a combination of two keys - Fn + the Wi-Fi button (may have an image of the Wi-Fi logo, radio antenna, airplane).

In the second, there is simply an “On” - “Off” switch, which can be located in different places on the computer and look different (you can see an example of such a switch in the photo below).

As for the function keys on the laptop to enable the wireless network, it is important to understand one nuance: if you reinstalled Windows on the laptop (or updated it, reset it) and did not bother installing all the official drivers from the manufacturer’s website (but used a driver pack or Windows build, which supposedly installs all the drivers), these keys most likely will not work, which may lead to the inability to turn on Wi-Fi.

To find out if this is the case, try using other actions provided by the top keys on your laptop (just keep in mind that volume and brightness can work without drivers in Windows 10 and 8). If they don't work either, it's probably due to the function keys.

Usually it’s not even drivers that are required, but special utilities, available on the official website of the laptop manufacturer and responsible for the operation of specific equipment (which includes function keys), for example HP Software Framework and HP UEFI Support Environment for Pavilion, ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities for Asus laptops, function key utility and Enaergy Management for Lenovo and others. If you do not know what specific utility or driver is required, search the Internet for information about this in relation to your laptop model (or tell the model in the comments, I will try to answer).

Enabling a wireless network in Windows 10, 8 and Windows 7 operating systems

In addition to turning on the Wi-Fi adapter using the laptop keys, you may need to turn it on in the operating system. Let's see how the wireless network turns on Windows latest versions.

In Windows 10, click the network connection icon in the notification area and make sure that the Wi-Fi button is on and the airplane mode button is off.

In addition, in latest version OS turning on and off the wireless network is available in Settings - Network and Internet - Wi-Fi.

In Windows 7 (however, this can also be done in Windows 10) go to the Network and Sharing Center, select “Change adapter settings” on the left (you can also press the Win + R keys and enter the command ncpa.cpl to get to the list of connections ) and pay attention to the wireless network icon (if it is not there, you can skip this section of the instructions and move on to the next one, about installing drivers). If the wireless network status is “Disabled” (Grey), right-click on the icon and click “Enable”.

In Windows 8, it is best to do the following and perform two actions (since two settings, according to observations, can work independently of each other - enabled in one place, disabled in another):

  1. In the right pane, select “Settings” - “Change computer settings”, then select “Wireless Network” and make sure it is turned on.
  2. Perform all the steps described for Windows 7, i.e. Make sure the wireless connection is enabled in the list of connections.

Another step that may be necessary for laptops with pre-installed Windows OS (regardless of the version): run the wireless network management program from the laptop manufacturer. Almost every laptop with a pre-installed operating system also has a program that contains Wireless or Wi-Fi in its name. In it you can also switch the adapter state. This program can be found in the Start or All Programs menu, and can also add a shortcut to the Windows Control Panel.

The last scenario is that you reinstalled Windows, but did not install the drivers from the official website. Even if the drivers are onWi-Fi installed automatically during installation Windows, or you installed them using a driver pack, and in the device manager it shows “The device is working fine” - go to the official website and get the drivers from there - in the vast majority of cases this solves the problem.

Wi-Fi is on, but the laptop does not see or connect to the network

In almost 80% of cases (from personal experience), the reason for this behavior is the lack of necessary drivers for Wi-Fi, which is a consequence Windows reinstallation on a laptop.

After you have reinstalled Windows, there are five possible options for events and your actions:

  • Everything was determined automatically, you are working on a laptop.
  • You are installing individual drivers that have not been identified from the official website.
  • You are using a driver pack for automatic installation drivers.
  • Some of the devices were not detected, but oh well.
  • Without exception, all drivers are taken from the manufacturer’s official website.

In the first four cases, the Wi-Fi adapter may not work as it should, even if the device manager shows that it is working normally. In the fourth case, it is possible that wireless device is not present in the system at all (i.e. Windows does not know about it, although it physically exists). In all these cases, the solution is to install drivers from the manufacturer’s website (follow the link - addresses where you can download official drivers for popular brands)

How to find out which Wi-Fi driver is on your computer

At any Windows versions, press the Win + R keys on your keyboard and enter the command devmgmt.msc, then click “OK”. The Windows Device Manager will open.

Open Network Adapters and find your Wi-Fi adapter in the list. Typically, it has the words Wireless or Wi-Fi in its name. Right-click on it and select “Properties”.

In the window that opens, open the “Driver” tab. Pay attention to the items “Driver supplier” and “Date of development”. If the supplier is Microsoft, and the date is several years away from today, go ahead to the official website of the laptop. How to download drivers from there is described in the link I provided above.

Update 2016: in Windows 10, the opposite option is possible - you install the necessary drivers, and the system itself “updates” them to less efficient ones. In this case, you can roll back the Wi-Fi driver in the device manager (or by downloading it from the official website of the laptop manufacturer), and then disable automatic update this driver.

After installing the drivers, you may need to enable the wireless network, as described in the first part of the instructions.

Additional reasons why your laptop may not connect to Wi-Fi or see the network

In addition to the options described above, there may be other reasons for problems with the operation of the Wi-Fi network. Very often, the problem is that the wireless network settings have been changed; less often, the problem is that it is not possible to use a certain channel or wireless network standard. Some of these problems have already been described on the site earlier.

In addition to the situations described in these articles, others are possible; you should try in the router settings:

  • Change the channel from “auto” to a specific one, try different channels.
  • Change the wireless network type and frequency.
  • Make sure that the password and SSID do not use Cyrillic characters.
  • Change the network region from Russia to USA.

Perhaps that's all I can offer on this issue. I'll remember something else and add to the instructions.

The laptop connects via Wi-Fi but the sites do not open

If a laptop (as well as a tablet and phone) connects to Wi-Fi but the pages do not open, there are two options:

  • You have not configured the router (in this case, everything can work on a desktop computer, since, in fact, the router is not involved, despite the fact that the wires are connected through it), in this case you only need to configure the router.

That’s probably all, I think among all this information you will be able to extract for yourself exactly what is suitable for your situation.

Sooner or later we have to reinstall Windows. Any installation degrades over time, which affects its performance and generates numerous errors. When reinstalling Windows, we expect that the system will detect all devices connected to the computer, but we are often deceived in our expectations. For example, a user may complain that he reinstalled Windows correctly, but there is no WiFi on the laptop. He would like to fix it this problem, but how to approach it is unknown. We will help you restore your wireless network and point out the causes of the problem. A visual sign of the absence of a network is this picture:

Of course, the reason for its occurrence may be a hardware failure. Wi-Fi adapters don't last forever.

Another possible reason is overload of wireless channels. At a given time and place, no more than a certain number of networks can exist simultaneously. That is, even if the device and its driver are functioning normally, channel overload blocks access. This situation is possible in high-rise buildings located in busy areas of large cities. But, most likely, you simply have not activated the driver or the device itself, as a result of which WiFi does not work after installing the Windows 7 operating system. Let's try to solve the problem.

Options

To restore the grid, you can try one of the following recipes:

  • If your laptop keyboard has a special WiFi button, press it. Sometimes you need to press it in combination with the Fn button. Try both.
  • On the front panel of some laptops there may be a lever like this:

move it to the working position.

  • Go to the Network => Network Connections window in Control Panel and check the status wireless connection. If it is disabled, then right-click on the connection icon and select “Connect” from the menu that appears.
  • If none of this helps, then open the Device Manager window. This can be done by right-clicking on the “My Computer” icon, selecting “Properties” from the menu, and then clicking on the “Device Manager” button in the “Hardware” tab. In the tree-like list on the left, select “Network Cards”. In chapter network devices A device with a name that includes the text “Wireless” or “WiFi” should be detected. If such a device is missing, then this means one thing - you do not have the driver installed. You will need to download and install the FI driver from the laptop manufacturer's website.

There may be a problem determining the device model. In Task Manager it will simply show up as "Network Controller". Right-click on this node, select the "Properties" menu item and go to the "Details" tab. In the list at the top, select the “Device ID” option and read the information in the “Value” box.

Wi-Fi on your laptop doesn't work after reinstalling Windows?

Hello, Dear friends! After reinstalling Windows, the Internet stopped working? I noticed that many people are having problems connecting to the Internet after reinstalling operating system Windows.

This problem manifests itself in the fact that Wi-Fi does not work, that is, connect the laptop to wireless internet does not work. The laptop simply does not find available networks, and there is no icon that would indicate the operation of the Wi-Fi module.

And if you go to the sharing control center, then such a connection as a Wireless network connection is simply not there. And if it is not there, then most likely the driver for the Wi-Fi adapter is not installed. So I answered another question: “Why is there no Wireless Network Connection?”

Everything is clear here. If the problem appeared after reinstalling Windows, then most likely you (or the person who installed the operating system for you) simply did not install the driver for Wi-Fi. Well...

Good afternoon Often after installation new version Windows operating system or reinstalling the old one, the problem of lack of Internet connection via the Wi-Fi module may arise. That is, your netbook or laptop does not interact with the Wi-Fi router. What to do in such a situation, and what are its reasons? Let's try to figure it out in this article.

Try going to the “Sharing Center”, there you will find the “Wireless Network Connection” icon. This is where the fun begins, because in most cases it is missing. This is a consequence of the fact that the necessary driver is not installed on the computer. Of course, after you reinstall the operating system Windows system, all drivers from your laptop are lost and need to be reinstalled again. Therefore, the fact that the wireless connection driver also disappeared is not surprising. To prevent this from happening in the future, before Windows installation check if you have all the necessary drivers on your disk or flash drive. If not, then...

Wi-Fi not working on your laptop? Then you've come to the right place.

There are quite a few reasons when a laptop cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network. This article will provide an algorithm for solving this problem, taking into account the frequency of possible causes.

Step 1: Diagnose the source of the problem

If the connection to the wireless network is unsuccessful, the problem may not be in the client device (netbook, ultrabook, etc.), but in the router settings.

To do this, you need to try to connect to the wireless network using any other device equipped with a Wi-Fi module - another laptop, netbook, tablet, smartphone, etc.

If you were able to connect to the wireless network, the problem is with your computer. If the connection fails, the problem is in .

Step 2. Hardware enable the Wi-Fi module of the laptop

So, based on the diagnostics that we carried out in the previous step, it was determined that the connection problem occurred on one of the client devices of the wireless network.

As a rule, all laptops are equipped with operation indicator lights. wireless module and have a specific key combination to enable it.

Note! A glowing indicator indicates that the adapter is turned on. The absence of backlight indicates that the Wi-Fi adapter is turned off.

Most manufacturers place indicator lights on the front or one of the sides of the computer.

Less common is the location of indicators near the touchpad or on the monitor body.

On some HP models, a module status light may be built into the power button on the keyboard.

To turn on the Wi-Fi module, use a key combination that consists of special key Fn and one of the system keys from F1 to F12.

Look carefully at the system (function) keys and find the Wi-Fi connection icon on one of them.

On some older models, in particular from the company, you can find a solution for turning on the Wi-Fi module in the form of a two-position switch.

Such a switch is usually located on one of the sides of the laptop or on its front side.

Below is a list of keys that can be used to enable/disable the Wi-Fi module on the most popular brands of laptops.

Acer: Fn+F3

Asus: Fn + F2

Dell: Fn+F2

Fujitsu: Fn+F5

Gigabyte: Fn + F2

HP: Fn+F12

After the adapter is turned on in hardware, connect to the wireless network. If the connection fails, move on to the next step.

Step 3. Software enable the laptop's Wi-Fi module

In addition to hardware enablement wireless adapter which we were doing in previous paragraph, there is also software enablement, which is performed directly in the operating system installed on the laptop.

To enable the wireless connection adapter in Windows 7, you must complete the following steps: on the notification panel (near the clock), select the Internet connection status icon “Network and Sharing Center”.

In the left column, select “Change adapter settings.”

In the list of connections, you need to pay attention to the indication of the “Wireless network connection” item. If the adapter is disabled, it will not be highlighted.

To enable it, right-click on the icon and select enable.

The icon color should change.

Now you need to pay attention to the notification panel area. In the first case, the laptop's Wi-Fi adapter is turned on, but there is no network to connect to (usually this is a problem with the router).

In the second option, the adapter is turned on and you need to find your network in the list of connections and connect.

After software activation adapter, try to connect to . If the connection fails, move on to the next step.

Step 4. Installing/reinstalling drivers for the Wi-Fi module

To check whether the driver is installed, you need to right-click on the “My Computer” shortcut, which can be found either in the Start menu or on the Desktop, in context menu select “Properties”, in the left column of the window that opens, select the “Device Manager” menu.

In the window that opens, you need to find the “Network Adapters” menu and find the name of the wireless adapter, which contains part of the name “... Wireless Network Adapter” or “Wireless Network Adapter …”, where instead of “…” there should be the name of your wireless adapter, for example, Atheros , Realtek, Qualcomm.

In our case, this is Atheros Wireless Network Adapter. Right-click on it and select “Properties”. In the menu that opens, you need to make sure that “The device is working normally.”

Important! If you do not find the name in the “Network Adapters” menu, you need to install drivers. Drivers can be found on the disk that came with the laptop, or by searching the Internet.

Step 5. Fix connection problems in the router

In the first step of our article, we looked at how to determine with a high degree of probability possible reason, due to which it is impossible to establish a Wi-Fi connection.

Since there are quite a lot of routers, and even more firmware for them, in this paragraph we will give general recommendations for troubleshooting the problem.

1. Try to reduce the distance between and the router. Try to ensure that there is direct visibility between the devices and as little interference as possible (walls, partitions, ceilings, microwave ovens, radiotelephone bases, etc.).

What to do if Wi-Fi does not work on your laptop

Why doesn't Wi-Fi work on my laptop? You can find out by running system diagnostics. You will learn how to do this in the video presented.

Not working wi-fi - this phenomenon is quite common, and most often occurs if any changes are made: after reinstalling the OS, updating firmware, replacing the router, and others. Sometimes finding the cause of Internet problems is difficult even for experienced professionals.

Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop, what is the reason?

The reasons for the inability to connect to Wi-Fi can be very different; they can be divided into simple and complex. And in this article we will try to consider the main ones.

Banal (simple) reasons for Wi-Fi not working

  1. You haven't paid for the Internet - pay for it.
  2. The router is not turned on - turn it on.
  3. No Wi-Fi coverage - move closer to the router.
  4. Your router is buggy - reboot it.

Serious reasons for Wi-Fi not working

If you have a problem connecting to Wi-Fi, then first you need to determine what the reason is: in the router or in the laptop.

The easiest way to find out what the problem is is to connect another device to your router or connect your laptop to a different Wi-Fi network.

Wi-Fi router/router is not configured

Before connecting to a wireless network, you need to configure your router. If you have not done this, then you should find instructions on the Internet for the router of your model and for your specific provider.

To find out if the connection from the provider is working, you need to check the WAN tab in the admin panel or the indicator on the router. If the connection from the provider does not work, then the problem may be as follows:

  • The admin panel contains incorrect settings for connecting to the provider.
  • The router is faulty.
  • Problems on the part of the provider. To exclude or confirm this option, you can contact your provider.

Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop - the receiver is faulty (burned out)

Sometimes Wi-fi laptop it just stops working. The network connection is either missing or unstable. The cause may be a breakdown Wi-fi module in the laptop. Then it may need to be replaced or repaired.

The most likely reason that your laptop won't connect to the Internet after reinstalling the operating system is that your new operating system is unable to find and install the correct driver for your network card.

As a rule, to install a driver on a network adapter, you need to use the driver disk that comes with your laptop, or you can also download required driver from the manufacturer's website for specific model your device.

You can check whether a driver is installed on the network adapter in Device Manager.

Wi-Fi module is not enabled on your laptop

There are 2 ways to enable the Wi-Fi adapter programmatically if it was previously disabled in the OS settings:

1. Through the Network and Sharing Center. You need to enter the ncpa.cpl command in the input window after pressing the Win+R combination. This command will open “Change adapter settings”, from there you need to go to “Wireless network connection”. If icon network adapter gray color, then you need to turn it on.
2. Through the device manager. If the adapter is disabled in Device Manager, the “Wireless Network Connection” icon will not appear in Network Connections. Then, as in point 1, you need to press Win + R. Then you need to enter the command devmgmt.msc, it will open the device manager. Next, we find a device that contains Wi-Fi or Wireless in its name, and after right-clicking, you need to click “Engage”. If the adapter does not turn on, then you need to check if there are suitable drivers.

Firewall or antivirus is blocking internet access

Sometimes your OS's security features, such as antivirus or firewall, can prevent your laptop from connecting to Wi-Fi.

If the problem is the firewall, then solving the problem is not difficult: you just need to disable it in the system settings.
If the antivirus causes obstacles, then you must either end the necessary processes through the task manager, or you can disable the antivirus itself.

Viruses and Malware block Wi-Fi

If you do not have an antivirus installed or it is outdated, then there is a high probability that you will encounter a blocker virus. Such viruses block your access to the Internet, allegedly due to a violation of the law. This virus works very simply: it sets its DNS servers in the network settings, and your browser finds only the fraudulent site. To solve the problem, you just need to change the DNS servers to those that suit you.

There may be too many devices connected to your Wi-Fi. Look and turn off the most active ones who are clogging up the Internet channel.

Many factors affect Wi-Fi speed. These include both external problems and the problem may be in the device.

The most common reasons:

  • Laptop network adapter and Wi-Fi router have different capabilities.
  • An unauthorized connection has occurred to your router.
  • The influence of electrical appliances.
  • Incorrect router location.
  • The wireless channel is being affected by another router.
  • The equipment is outdated.

Advice: To make your Wi-Fi work faster, try rebooting the router, moving it to another location, or updating its firmware.

If Wi-Fi on the laptop worked properly before reinstalling Windows, then the reason could only be in the drivers. Right-click on the “My Computer” icon, go to the “Hardware” tab, then click on the “Device Manager” button. In the list that appears, icons with an exclamation mark indicate those devices for which the driver is not installed.

Find out your model motherboard(if you have desktop computer) or the model of your laptop (you can look under the battery). Then go to the manufacturer's website and download drivers for your network card. After installing them, Wi-Fi will appear on your computer again.

The wifi button does not work on a lenovo/HP/asus/acer laptop - how to fix it?

Fix not work button You can only replace the entire laptop keyboard; order a keyboard from your laptop and replace the old one with a new one yourself or take your laptop to a service center.

Important! While the button does not work, you can turn on Wi-Fi on your laptop without a button, using OS Windows. To do this, click: “Start” - “Control Panel” - “Network and Internet” - “Network and Sharing Center”. On the left, click on the item: “Change adapter settings.” Next, look for a wireless network, right-click on it and select ENABLE.

What to do if the wifi driver on the laptop does not work?

In this state of affairs, we have no options, we either need to update old driver, or remove the existing driver and install a new one.

To remove the current driver from your Wi-Fi, right-click on the “My Computer” icon, go to the “Hardware” tab, then click on the “Device Manager” button. Next in the list we look for your network card and delete everything network hardware, then restart the computer and install new driver for Wi-Fi.

There may also be cases when your wifi adapter(network card) there are no new drivers for modern operating systems, in which case you need to return the previous operating system.
