    Zubkov Alexey:

    Advantages:

    Before that, there were mostly SGN 2-4, so I will compare with them. I decided to try the platform from Microsoft, did not believe in the reviews and hoped that this platform better than android, and what did you get in real life?! The quality of the materials is not bad, the design and stuffing too, but the platform itself is terrible. Often there are freezes, throws out of programs, there are also arbitrary reboots. The quality of the photo is so-so, blurry, grainy, on SGN 4 it was much better, although the 16 megapixel camera was compared to 20 for the lumia, after latest update the live photo function disappeared, sadly! They wrote here about the squeaks of the lid, I was also lucky to have it, on the opposite side of the buttons, it's not critical for me. Communication problems began on both SIM cards, then they don’t hear me, then I don’t hear, I reset the system to the factory settings, so far so good. For applications, it seems that Microsoft is specifically strangling developers, preventing them from laying out programs with full functionality (for example, cloud storage: apart from not uploading anything to them from the phone and back, as well as with other applications, Mile even stopped supporting and developing his products on this platform (they answered me in this way on my request)). That's why this Windows mobile is slowly dying.
    To be honest, I regret the purchase (but I hope they will fix it).

    Flaws:

    2 SIM cards;
    micro SD slot; and that's it!

    Comment:

    Glitches constantly;
    Almost all programs often fly out;
    The camera is so-so;
    It goes into reboot 2 times a day.

    Gushchin Andrey:

    Advantages:

    I bought this device in the middle of summer, instead of Honor 3X Pro, for a long time there was a desire to switch to Windu, or rather dump it from android, because the phone is more needed for work, and not for games, Yablochnikov considered, but the toad is stronger. Eventually. because My main needs for a smartphone are the Internet and viewing documents, with which, by the way, there have never been any problems, the phone suits me completely. He looks modest, and I don’t like it when they look back at me. I didn’t sculpt any covers or glasses, the phone constantly dangles in the bag, there are no scuffs, etc. And the main advantage, there are no games, there are no problems with the child, he does not ask to play constantly, as before that android, he will constantly discharge the battery and put it as it was. In general, if you have no time for show-offs, and the people around you have not perceived an apple as a kind of status item for a long time (a small half of the class at school has iPhones, what a prestige)) and you need a phone for work, I recommend, I did not regret at all. I also got my wife hooked on Windows, took her 650 DS, although it was worth taking 950, but this is again the toad's fault.

    Flaws:

    Powerful stuffing, fast charging, OS, camera, autonomy, screen, connection quality.

    Comment:

    There are no special ones, the soft system is constantly finished. The fingerprint scanner is almost blind in backlight. But in the dark it works with a bang. There are few applications and games, but I do not play on it.

    Matveev Alexander:

    Advantages:

    Used to own a Lumia 1020. Recently bought a cool samsung galaxy, but still wanted a second smartphone on Windows. I was worried for a long time that Windows 10 would be uncomfortable, ugly, buggy and all that, and even Lumia 950, according to reviews, should have turned out to be a flawed plastic toy from the crooked Chinese, which only does what it slows down, heats up and reboots.
    And I've always found the on-screen navigation buttons to be disgusting. But in vain. Here they fit in very well.
    Lumia 950 has something to criticize for, but certainly not for dampness, buggy and ugliness. The case looks very good, and the Windows look much more impressive than on the old generations of the line and ... it really flies! No glitches, no freezes at startup, crashes, reboots - not even once, even Windows phone I sinned with this under the same loads and with the same set of applications.
    But when I just bought a Lumia 950 and hadn't upgraded yet - that was really HELL! And after upgrading to latest version all problems are gone. So who has doubts in terms of stability - take it.
    In general, the situation with applications after Windows Phone has not changed - there are a lot of things, and a lot of things are not. New versions of applications are more functional, smarter and prettier. But for connoisseurs of the abundance of software, toys, fashionable applications and all that, Windows 10 is not suitable at all.
    But the Lumia 950 is great for photos, for music (God! What sound does it produce in good headphones!), and thanks to the combo of a good keyboard and a perfectly tuned screen sensor, chatting is a pleasure. And Glance Screen ("watch") will not let you miss new messages.
    I played with Continuum - a handy thing for working with a large screen and for viewing content on it directly from the browser. And the iris scanner is not very convenient in practice. It would be better if they made a fingerprint scanner.
    The only really sad thing is the battery, which is not enough for the whole day with active use. But after the past flagship smartphones from the same line - the battery is definitely not worse.

    Advantages:

    Mikey just went crazy, the flagship and so ruin. Since Nokia gave them the mobile division, alas, everything has gone downhill. Win10 for smartphones is apparently not a profitable project, so it was buried.

    Flaws:

    Screen, power, beauty)

    Comment:

    The camera is the main disappointment! why was it necessary to stick a 20 megapixel sensor and not let it work quietly without improving sizing, what nonsense - I took a photo, the smart thinks something, touched it - writes We are adding final touches ?! What touches, this is MY photo, just do it as it was before, take a photo and process it yourself if necessary). Or iPhone laurels do not give rest!!! Before that, there was a 920 lumiya, yes 8 megapixels, but natural colors.
    - Wretched menu colors, well, since you've made all the shades of blue, pink and orange, so give the palette, let the user choose.
    - There is no way to make icons of an intermediate size, either small or half-screen bast shoes;
    - The software that used to work fine now either does not work (the icons are greyed out) - the Lumia camera, Panorama, etc., or falls out with errors (LitRes, Coach, Focus change) While my favorite Panorama sends me when I open it to the App Store and then proudly informs me - This application is not compatible with this device! Those. I bought latest model and incompatible with it?

    aj-serez:

    Advantages:

    The device is not worth the money. Windows on mobile phones is dead. I have been using it for about 10 months and with each update new features in the form of bugs.

    Flaws:

    In our first review, we didn't skimp on the compliments, calling the newly released Lumia 950 an amazing device. Then it was the turn of the Lumia 950 XL, which made us a little less enthusiastic. However, it is worth recognizing that the new flagships of Microsoft, so magnificent at first glance, in fact, are not without very significant shortcomings. I am a Windows fanatic. Now, after some time of reflection, it seems to me that these smartphones have potential. But if Microsoft was counting on the fact that it would be the fans who would use them first of all, then it either has a low opinion of us, or does not attach much importance to the number of complaints coming from us. And if the company does not want the Lumia 950 series to join the ranks of phones on Windows base, which dissatisfied customers most often carry back to the store, she needs to refine something, and not put it off indefinitely.

    Camera

    The Lumia 950 and 950 XL have an excellent camera, and the Camera app itself is excellent too. When shooting in automatic mode you get great shots and the camera is so fast you never miss a moment. If you are more accustomed to making each frame manually, choose manual mode and keep the process under control. But personally, I was especially pleased with how my Lumia 735 with its 4-core Snapdragon 400 with 1 GB of RAM was able to take more than 100 frames in burst mode, while the Lumia 950 XL on the 8-core Snapdragon 810 with 3 GB of RAM mastered only 10, after which there was a break - to save the received pictures. But, logically, it is more powerful than the Lumia 735, so what's the matter? And the point is the new Camera app: in Windows 10, it has a curious feature - after taking a few photos, it pauses to save them. This explains why, in Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft chose to make Burst Mode disabled by default. Another annoyance that diverts my personal attention from the advantages of the camera: when, after a few frames, you try to view the footage, you see a black screen instead of a preview image. This happened to me several times in a row, until the phone suddenly decided that it was time to reboot - and rebooted, by itself.

    Battery

    I already touched on this topic in my review of the Lumia 950 XL, where I said that its battery was less durable than I expected. Although, if you look at the results of comparing the new Lumia with the Lumia 640, 930, 1520 and 640 XL posted on the Microsoft website, it becomes clear that initially there was nothing to count on

    The Lumia 950 XL has half the hours of standby time than the Lumia 640 XL and 1520. How is that even possible? Isn't it obvious that any mind-blowing smartphone feature is only mind-blowing if you can use it, which is quite difficult with a battery prone to sudden death. This has never happened with my Lumia 640 XL on Windows 10. With Lumia 950 XL on Windows 10 - it was. Yes, I remember about the characteristics of the screen, but - in the case of any other Lumia that I have ever used, the battery charge was enough to, for example, listen to music for more than an hour (with the screen off). And the Lumia 950 XL turned off in my pocket within half an hour of reaching the 10% battery mark. The QHD screen in this case is no excuse, because the Lumia 950 XL is not the first smartphone with a QHD screen.

    One reader, defending the weak Lumia 950 XL (3400 mAh) battery, suggested solving the problem by disabling "third party apps" and features that can be dispensed with. I agree with this reader. If you turn off all functions, you can significantly extend the life of the battery, and even more significantly - if you constantly turn on the power saving mode. And if you do not use the Lumia 950 XL at all, then it can last only two and a half times less than a regular mobile phone. But it's not that. Not using your phone to extend battery life is not an option, and I find it odd that Windows fans are coming to the defense of this blatant failure, especially given the fact that Windows Phone was originally was a platform that didn't require the above tricks to achieve decent battery life.

    Windows 10 Mobile

    This is the root of all evil. Unlike the previous Windows versions Phone, Windows 10 Mobile eats up more power, is less stable and more prone to crashes - at least on the Lumia 950 XL. Frankly, I don’t quite understand what the reason is: why both my 640 XL and 1520 hold a charge much longer and behave more stable than the Lumia 950 XL, with which we experienced both sudden reboots at her initiative and failure in the work of applications, and problems with the camera and battery, which, coupled with all other minor annoyances, formed one big sad picture.

    I'm glad that everything indicated errors can be corrected through competent software, but I will not tire of repeating: the first impression never goes unnoticed. For those just getting started with Windows Phones, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL may be their first choice and run into a whole host of flaws and outright blunders. The experienced Windows Phone user may not even pay much attention to this, but those who are used to the iPhone or Android will ask for their money back - as I did.

    Video review Lumia 950 and 950 XL

    I have always been attracted to Windows smartphones. In such phones, you were provided with a clear, captivatingly simple interface, which could not be said about devices on iOS and Android.

    That is why I was very disappointed with the release of Lumia 950 with Windows 10: the operating system did not show all the promised trump cards. The electronic filling was not so bad, but the software did not make the most pleasant impression. In particular, I was disappointed with the Continuum application, which, as planned, should turn your smartphone into a kind of desktop computer, but really only shows how toothless Microsoft is when it comes to competing with the iPhone and Android.

    Yes, the phone got a great screen. Yes, its camera takes quite high-quality pictures, especially in low light. I can even safely close my eyes to the plastic case of the Lumia 950, because the gadget has a microSD slot and a removable battery - which you will not find in many modern smartphones with an iron case during the day with fire. Voice assistant Cortana also seems to be preferable to Apple's Siri in my opinion.

    Microsoft Lumia 950 - Overview of the new flagship from Microsoft

    However, when it comes to scoring the operating system, things don't look so rosy anymore. Mobile payments, unlimited access to applications, extensions for software - all this looks as unattractive in Windows 10 as in previous versions OS from Microsoft. I sincerely hoped that Windows 10 smartphones would get a significant advantage over other platforms due to the Continuum option, which promised to increase productivity. In fact, alas, this did not happen.

    Sales Start Date and Price Lumia 950

    The cost of a regular Lumia 950 will be $550 without reference to any mobile operator. There will also be an enlarged version of the smartphone, the Lumia 950 XL, with a 5.7-inch screen, with a launch date starting in late 2015.

    Continuum in Lumia 950: Smartphone becomes PC (TV)

    What if your smartphone could double its functionality and also double as a desktop computer? This is the idea behind the Continuum option. This is exactly what should have distinguished smartphones on Windows 10 from phones on other platforms - you will not find this on Android and iOS yet.

    How to turn your phone into a PC? Connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to your Lumia and use your desktop monitor or TV screen as your main display. The idea sounds tempting, but there is one "but".

    Connect your smartphone to big screen there are only two ways, and both options are not so simple. In the first case, the TV to which you are connecting must have support for the Miracast video standard, which will allow you to wireless transmission signal from your smartphone to your TV screen via installed application Continuum. Alternatively, you can make a more secure wired connection using the $80 Microsoft Display Dock (you'll also need additional cables).

    The idea looks pretty tempting, but it was not without its inconvenience. First, you will need special stats and a set special cables, including HDMI and USB Type-C cables. Wired or wireless keyboard and a mouse are optional as the connected screen can be controlled from the smartphone display.

    So when using Microsoft documents Office keyboard shortcuts didn't work, so you'll have to do all the text formatting work using the toolbar or mouse drop-down menu. For example, the quick copy and paste functions using keyboard shortcuts did not work during my testing, which noticeably slowed down the work with text.

    Lumia 950 - connecting to a monitor

    It should also be noted that with fast typing, the cursor on the screen began to slow down, which also noticeably complicated and slowed down the work with text. All in all, again, Microsoft's idea of a hybrid smartphone-PC looks tempting, but its implementation is very lame, and I would still prefer a traditional laptop when working on large projects and complex tasks.

    Other Windows 10 software in Lumia 950

    In addition to Continuum, Windows 10 has a number of other advanced features. For example, if other modern smartphones are endowed with a fingerprint scanner, then Microsoft decided to endow its iris-scanning smartphone with software called Windows Hello, which had already been used in Surface tablets before. This option recognizes the owner of the smartphone by scanning his eyes, which, like fingerprints, are unique and inimitable for each person. In terms of speed and convenience, iris-scanning software looks no better than fingerprint scanning. At the same time, the accuracy and correctness of eye scanning very much depends on the quality of illumination. In a word, this unique way to access your smartphone data, but not always the best.

    Windows 10 gave the Lumia 950 a cleaner and simpler look in every menu, from operating system settings to choosing a theme. In the app store, everything is in its place, although, as mentioned above, it lacks a variety of programs (when compared with the Android and iOS stores). I also liked the ability to turn off the screen by double-clicking on the navigation bar (alas, a similar double-tap does not turn it back on), and the option to download offline maps, especially if you are heading out of town, where Mobile Internet not so good, and sometimes not at all.

    Achilles Heel Lumia 950: Number of Applications

    If most of the features of Windows 10 are enticing (or promising), then all operating systems for mobile phones from Microsoft there was and is one big drawback: a small number of available applications.

    For example, Google refused to support this platform, which means that it is not possible to work with such popular worldwide services as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Docs(or rather, the services will be available, but only through the browser). Despite the fact that Microsoft has put a lot of effort into creating alternative software, like OneDrive, for people who have been working with Google services this is a significant disadvantage.

    At the same time, Microsoft managed to get hold of such popular applications as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagramm, Twitter. At the same time, it should be noted that updates, as a rule, for Windows applications phones arrive very late, as developers give more preference to Android platforms and iOS.

    Lumia 950 design: Good old plastic

    You do not need to be seven spans in the forehead to notice: appearance The Lumia 950 leaves a lot to be desired. The body of the phone is made of plastic, which, in principle, we should already get used to. Although, on the other hand, last year's Lumia 930 / Icon had a completely metal case. At the same time, Lumia 950 received a removable battery and slot for expansion cards microSD memory. The novelty will be sold in white and black, all sorts of exotic shades - such as lime, red or orange - are not available for the new Microsoft smartphone.

    The screen size of 5.2 inches allows you to comfortably hold the phone in your hand and fully control it. The Lumia 950 has a dedicated camera button, which I like because you can double-tap to open the capture app even if your phone's screen is in lock mode at the time. By clicking again, you can already take a picture.

    USB Type-C is still a unique and new connector that makes the Lumia 950 a very special phone in this regard.

    Camera Lumia 950

    Microsoft decided not to change their camera app much, which I think is more of an oversight. Photos are taken good quality at almost all levels of illumination, however, manual adjustment can sometimes be difficult, since not all options are intuitive.

    The Lumia 950 has the ability to shoot 4K video, but by default, video is recorded in 1080p quality. I loved it manual setting macro mode, also in the camera application, you can set the timer shooting, as well as set the continuous shooting mode. In addition, you can create so-called "live photos", which are 100% analogue of Live Photos in iPhone 6s.

    Internet
