In 2015, Apple introduced its first smartwatch. Of course, many users received them positively. In the second generation (Series 2), GPS appeared, water resistance and autonomy were improved. Thanks to this, Apple strengthened its position in the wearable devices market.

However, no matter what OS you use (iOS, Android or even Windows), you decided to read this article because you might want to know what else you can wear on your wrist and connect to your iPhone. It's obvious that Apple Watch- is far from the only option, so there must be an alternative that will suit you better and, most likely, will save hundreds of bucks.

In this article, we have collected the best alternatives to the Apple Watch smartwatch. Models are listed in random order, use the content to quickly navigate through the items.

Samsung Gear S3 Frontier

If you have an Android smartphone, then perfect choice there will be smart watches Samsung Gear S3, which are also compatible with iOS/iPhone (according to instructions).

Samsung claims that the Gear S3 supports 4G LTE networks, but this feature is only available in certain regions, so users are often left with just connecting to their smartphone via Bluetooth. But the device is equipped with NFC, GPS, a pulse sensor, has a built-in speaker and IP68 protection against water and dust (can be safely submerged to a depth of 1.5 m). Thanks to glass Gorilla Glass SR+ on the smart screen watch Gear S3 will never get scratched. The round 1.3-inch AMOLED display pleases the eyes with a resolution of 360x360.

The smartwatch runs on the proprietary Tizen operating system developed by Samsung. In this regard, it is worth warning that the choice of applications is very limited compared to Android or iOS. The advantage of the Gear S3 is 4 GB of internal memory, which can accommodate a lot of music for jogging and training.

Fossil is one of the few classic watch makers trying to get into the smartwatch market. The Q Founder's provenance is evident in its distinctive stainless steel bracelet. It's quite thick, although some people like it. In any case, there is a version with a leather strap.

The watch runs on Android Wear OS and supports not only Android smartphones, but also iPhones. The RAM capacity is 1 GB, which is at least twice as much as most competitors, so “everything flies”.

Unfortunately, like Moto 360, there is an annoying flat wheel effect at the bottom of the screen, because... there is a light sensor there (so that the display does not reflect on it). If you're not too bothered by the black section, then the Q Founder is a great choice for those who don't want to wear anything too technical.

Fossil Q Founder Price: $295

Huawei Watch

The Huawei Watch smartwatch was presented at MWC 2015. It runs on Android Wear OS and, in addition Android smartphones, also support iPhone, although not all features will be available.

Similar to the Apple Watch, the Huawei Watch smartwatch boasts a sapphire screen and a stainless steel case, so the device looks expensive and stylish. Huawei company opted for a more traditional round display. Although the dial turned out to be very beautiful, the image on the round screen is not so ideal, especially when it comes to text.

Huawei Watch can count steps, monitor the user’s physical activity and heart rate. The official website describes this device as a “smart data center” that allows you to look at your health and improve your training process.

The Garmin Vivoactive HR is a GPS-equipped smartwatch designed for sports enthusiasts.

They have a square black case with two strap sizes. The device does not run on Android Wear, but on Garmin’s proprietary operating system, which supports connection to both Android and iOS.

Water resistant to 50m, the Vivoactive HR is ideal for swimming. A curious feature of smartwatches is Garmin maps With useful information for golfers, including distance to hole and par for that hole.

By the way, the price is very attractive for a smartwatch with GPS and a heart rate sensor.

Motorola Moto 360 2

A new version of the Moto 360 smartwatch, which is promoted under the same name. However, the second generation is actually impressive. Motorola also offers online ordering with the option to customize the case from the materials you like, which is pretty cool.

Available in 3 sizes - 2 for men (42 and 46 mm) and 1 for women (42 mm, but the case is thinner than the men's version). Be careful with these parameters when purchasing.

This smartwatch does not have GPS, so it is clearly not for avid athletes, but it does work on the latest Android versions Wear and have one of best designs in the smartwatch market. However, there is one unpleasant little thing - a tiny black section at the very bottom of the dial, which is needed for the light sensor to work correctly. Other smartwatches with round screens have proven that this is not necessary. This nuance of the Moto 360 2 hurts the eyes if you put on a white dial.

Another great model of Samsung smartwatches, compatible with phones on both Android and iOS (according to the instructions).

We've loved the Gear S2 since day one because of its unique rotating bezel. You can use the touchscreen to control the device, but the bezel is a great, intuitive control method.

There is also a more expensive one Classic version Gear S2 with leather strap.

Gear S2 runs on Tizen OS ( own development Samsung). This system does not offer as many applications as Android or iOS, but this does not interfere with everyday use Gear S2. The smartwatch is equipped with a heart rate sensor and a large amount of memory for music that you can listen to through wireless headphones(via Bluetooth) so you don't have to carry your phone with you while jogging.

Just like the Withings Steel HR (see below), the Misfit Phase device cannot be called a full-fledged smartwatch, in the sense that it does not have a touch screen or an electronic dial. But this device can be connected to your phone via Bluetooth to monitor your physical activity and receive notifications directly on your wrist.

This watch has a very beautiful design. We also liked Misfit's smartphone companion app.

We have reviews of several Pebble smartwatches on our site, but the company was recently acquired by Fitbit and has gone out of business. You can still buy most Pebble models, but they are no longer supported or updated.

However, they still continue to work, i.e. you will receive notifications, fitness data. In addition, Pebble watches have an amazing time battery life. If you are interested in Pebble, then we would recommend the device to you Pebble Time, as the cheapest one currently available for sale.

If you don't need full functionality touch screen on a smartwatch, it will be able to offer you a stylish design, high-quality assembly and excellent battery life.

Also, this smartwatch is equipped with a heart rate sensor and a small display to display some basic data.

Withings Steel HR price: $190

Stylish smartwatches are a great alternative to the Apple Watch for two reasons. First, they have a round OLED screen, albeit the same size at 44 mm (slightly larger than the Cupertino invention). Secondly, there's a comfortable touch bezel around the screen and a single button on the side, so you don't have to cover the screen with your finger too often.

With a proprietary OS, built-in GPS, an optical heart rate sensor and water resistance up to 50 m, the Misfit Vapor smartwatch looks very competitive. Given its support for iOS and Android, the Vapor could very well steal sales share from the Apple Watch and Android Wear watches.

Misfit Vapor price: $200

You'll definitely want to check out Fossil's collection of Android Wear smartwatches, but due to their outdated displays and subpar iOS support, we wouldn't recommend them over the powerful Apple Watch Series 2.

We liked Fossil's collection of hybrid watches, which can monitor physical activity and send notifications via vibration. All smart features, hidden in a classic case, were developed by Misfit, which Fossil acquired in early 2016.

Fossil Q Crewmaster Price: $165

After the closure of Pebble, we turned our attention to another startup that develops amazing smartwatches.

This device boasts a colorful OLED screen with a resolution of 400x400 (pixel density: 287 per inch). Pretty damn cool for a watch that's only $199, isn't it? Although the OS still needs to be improved, you will also find GPS and a heart rate sensor in Ticwatch 2. In fact, that's all most users need from a smartwatch.

Ticwatch 2 price: $100

For those who are only interested in the Apple Watch's sports features, the Fitbit Blaze wrist device can be a worthy alternative. Fitbit's first fitness watch has all of Apple's sports features, including notifications from standard applications iPhone, except WhatsApp, although it is supported in Android.

In general, the Blaze's feature set is difficult to satisfy the needs of runners or cyclists, but Fitbit's daily activity monitoring with an emphasis on measuring resting heart rate is pleasing.

In early 2015, Apple produced its first smartwatch for iOS. To a large number The audience really liked the device. Since the second generation of smartwatches, manufacturers have upgraded water resistance and improved battery life. In this regard, the company managed to occupy a very good position in the market.

Regardless of the operating system of your smart watch, you will probably be interested in alternative options for these devices. In this article, we will look at several very high-quality watches from Apple's competitors.

The most important thing is that you understand that Apple smart wrist devices have a huge number of alternative options that will allow you to save a lot.

If you use the Android operating system, then a wristwatch from Samsung Corporation would be a good alternative. The main type of operating system for which they were created is Android, but they are also suitable for iOS operating systems smarwatch

The press service of Samsung Corporation claims that the watch can work with 4G LTE networks, but in fact, not many regions can use this function, so people living in the provinces will have to use a connection to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

The watch has a waterproof case that allows you to dive up to a distance of one and a half meters; unfortunately, it is not suitable for swimming.

There is a built-in speaker and a good sensor for measuring your heart rate. Of course, there are GPS and NFC technologies.

A chic windshield from the manufacturer Gorilla Glass SR+, this glass allows you to protect your watch from all kinds of scratches. The display is round in shape and has a resolution of 1.3 inches with a maximum resolution of three hundred and sixty by three hundred and sixty pixels.

The operating system is its own, proprietary, it was developed by Samsung and called operating system Tizen. Because of this, there is a huge discrepancy in downloading applications, depending on whether you use Android or iOS.

What the company has worked on is the storage. You can download up to four gigabytes of music and enjoy it during training.

The price of this product is not cheap; they cost about three hundred and fifty dollars.

Fossil Q Founder

This company is almost the only one that has moved into the smartwatch market from the classic device market. The gadget has several types of belts, the first of which is made of thick stainless steel, the second belt is made of leather design.

The watch works with both Android and iOS, has one gigabyte of built-in random access memory, compared to competitors, they work at lightning speed, since competitors install half as much RAM.

The disadvantages include the fact that at the very bottom of the display there is, everyone’s unloved, “flat wheel effect”. If this doesn’t bother you, then otherwise they are very good.

The price for this device starts from two hundred ninety-five dollars.

Huawei Watch

This smartwatch was released in 2015 and was presented at the MWC 2015 conference, it works with two major operating systems, but for iPhone users, some functions will be blocked.

The sapphire crystal used on the “forehead” is made of very high quality, the body of the device is made of steel that does not rust, all this together creates a very cool design.

The clock is made in a classic round style, but the “picture” of the display itself is a little unfinished, most of all this concerns the text.

Using the gadget, you can easily count how many steps you have taken per day, monitor your physical activity and measure your pulse.

The price for this device is high and equals four hundred one hundred nineteen American dollars.

Garmin Vitoactive HR

These smart watches were developed for sports fans. Manufacturers, unlike all the previous options considered, made the gadget body in a square design. By equipping them with the proprietary Garmin operating system, which supports both Android and iOS, managers were able to increase their sales.

The water resistance is simply amazing; they can withstand immersion depths of up to fifty meters, which is an excellent indicator for people who are involved in swimming.

Chip of this device the fact that they have a special function for playing golf, it determines how many meters are left until the next hole.

Not a bad price for a device that has GPS and a heart rate monitor.

The price for this device is two hundred and sixty dollars.

Moto 360 2

The second generation of watches from Motorolla exceeded my expectations. The most interesting aspect of this device is that, if you wish, you can order absolutely any strap to suit your taste.

They released three sizes of the device, one for women and two for men. The women's version differs from the men's version, only in less thin steel on the case.

The disadvantages include the fact that these watches are not equipped with GPS, which immediately reduces the audience among lovers of an active lifestyle.

There is an operating room inside the clock Android system Wear, it allows you to work only with Android devices, so users Apple products Don't pay attention to this watch.

The design of the watch is very, very attractive, but there is one thing, this is a black mark at the bottom of the display, which is necessary for the light sensor to work; if it is not visible at all on the black screen, then when you turn it on white screen a “blot” immediately forms; many smart watch manufacturers have already solved this problem.

The price of the watch is three hundred seventy-five dollars.

Gear S2

The second generation of smart watches from Samsung!! A very cool watch that is compatible with Android and iOS.

I liked this watch almost as soon as I touched it, what surprised me most was the Basel, which can rotate, using the watch is very easy with it, it is very intuitive, and you can also easily use the touch screen.

The company has also released a premium version of the watch; it differs only in the leather strap. The watch runs on the proprietary Tizen operating system, the disadvantage of this system is that you will not have a huge number of applications, as on Android or iOS.

The watch has a heart rate monitor and a huge storage area for listening to your favorite music; you can listen to it through Bluetooth headphones.

A Chinese manufacturer has produced counterfeits of Apple models. When purchasing, they must be checked for originality.

When purchasing an Apple Smart Watch, follow these steps:

  1. Inspect the inside of the box - it should be perfect;
  2. Look for connectors on the case - there shouldn’t be any, the original case has a monolithic design;
  3. Pay attention to the charger - China equips its products with a regular cable, Apple equips its products with a docking station;
  4. Turn on the device to view the “OS” - the image of the original is perfect, the design is exquisite, etc.;

7 rules for choosing watches

You need to carefully choose a smart gadget for your iPhone. To prevent it from later turning into an unnecessary thing, the future user is recommended to familiarize themselves with the Smart Watch evaluation criteria.

To purchase a useful product, complete 7 steps:

  1. Check the direction of the device;
  2. Make sure there is a SIM card slot;
  3. Check your ability to receive notifications;
  4. Familiarize yourself with the communication modules;
  5. Review availability of all standard features;
  6. Check the degree of protection;
  7. Analyze the appearance.

All Smart Watches for iPhone have a specific focus - some models are designed for office use, others for sports, and others for everyday use. Each sample is equipped with certain functions. If the gadget is intended for sports use, its capabilities will be appropriate. The situation is similar with office and everyday models.

Having a SIM card in an iPhone smartwatch makes it possible not only to answer calls, but also to make them. This feature will be useful to everyone. The streamlined ability to receive notifications makes using the iPhone more comfortable. You don’t need to take it out of your pocket, just look at your watch for delivery.

If you are iPhone owner and want a new smart watch, new Apple Watch Series 4 isn't your only choice. Yes, it's a fantastic wearable, and our current watch fave, but it's not for everyone, and hardly the most wallet-friendly.

Luckily, there are a number of iOS-compatible smartwatches on the market with features that Cupertino hasn't yet included in the device.

Plus, of course, Wear OS is compatible with iOS, as well the latest smartphones Gear from Samsung. Thus, iPhone users have many options to choose from.

So, if you find that the new Apple Watch is too expensive or just doesn't suit your tastes, we've put together a selection best alternatives to choose from, any of which will sync with your iPhone.

Additionally, we've outlined some incoming Apple Watch alternatives to look for as well.

Very soon …

Coming soon new launch smartwatches by the end of the year. Most of them work with the Google Wear operating system, and most of them welcome Fossil Group.

We have the Fossil Q Venture and Explorist HR, the Michael Kors Access Runway - the new DieselOn Full Guard 2.5, the Emporio Armani Connected 2018 and the full featured Skagen Falster 2. The good news is that all of these watches have a smooth design, built-in GPS, heart rate monitoring and NFC for Google Pay. There is also a new watch coming into Casio with the Casio Pro Trek WSD-F30 launching towards the end of 2018.

So there's a lot to look forward to, and you can bet there will be plenty of announcements before the end of the year.

Samsung Galaxy Watch is the successor to the Gear S3. And it now comes in 42mm and 46mm models. You can consider it a replacement for Gear Sport.

The floating-friendly smartwatch builds on the fitness and wellness features introduced on the S3 and Sport, adding more workout modes, improving heart rate monitoring skills and improving integrated sleep tracking.

Tizen OS 4.0 starts showing, and in our opinion, it's a more comprehensive platform than Google's Wear OS right now. Still, of course, packing that big rotating pad for navigating the OS when you don't want your fingers all over that super sharp touchscreen.

Of course, the Watch will play nice with iPhones, and whether you go 42mm or 46mm, it will offer better battery life than Apple's smartwatches.

If Samsung or Wear OS don't do it for you, then there's always the latest Fitbit smartwatch to consider. And, if we're honest, it's easy to observe that people make the most mistakes for the Apple Watch when we have it on our wrists.

And like the Watch Series 4, it's all about fitness. So it has a waterproof design, as well as swim tracking and a built-in heart rate monitor to measure your workout intensity. However, it doesn't have built-in GPS - for that you'll need to pay a little more and get a Fitbit Ionic.

You can also expect the usual Fitbit fitting tracking features, including arguably the best sleep monitoring features of any worn-out wrist.

As for the main functions of the smartwatch, it supports notifications for messages and third party applications(with answers available if you are connected to Android phone), and has a built-in music player supported by Deezer, and if you live in the US, Pandora too (note that these can only be played offline). You can download apps from Fitbit's growing app store and also support contactless payment via Fitbit Pay (another note: if you're in the US, you'll need to get the dedicated payment version).

Unlike Apple's smart laptop, it works with Android, iOS and Windows smartphones, and with up to 5 days of battery life, you don't have to charge it every night. It's a strong alternative, and one that will improve as Fitbit builds on the strong array of sensors it loads internally - with sleep apnea detection expected to be on the way.

Garmin Vivomove HR

Like the Steel HR below, the Vivomove HR is a sporty hybrid that packs a lot of features into one. Unlike the Vivomove, Garmin's new hybrid is available in unisex and women's designs and includes a sleek discrete display that appears on the watch face when you give it a tap.

On this screen you can see a whole raft of information, including fitness tracking data, heart rate pulse, smartphone notifications and even let you check your stress levels.

If you're concerned about battery life, it's a fine performer, offering two weeks of browsing time and about five days of regularly hitting all those smartwatch features.

Nokia Steel HR

Giving the Apple Watch a run for its money in terms of wellness technology, the Nokia Steel HR is a serious fitness tracker disguised as a classic Swiss watch. The optical heart rate sensor provides decent analysis of your daily heart rate and tracks your heart rate over time—perhaps better than the Apple Watch in this department.

And even though it's an analog watch, it's not without a screen. The discreet OLED panel displays relevant health statistics and some notifications so you won't miss a call.

Of course, without GPS, the Steel HR doesn't track Apple's outdoor, cycling, and workout smartwatch, but it does offer automatic exercise detection and will monitor your heart rate during a session and count it toward your daily goal. It's also a great sleep tracker that fills the hole left wide open by the Apple Watch, and it offers 25 days of tracking on a single charge. It's a different proposition, but those primarily interested in the Apple Watch as a fitness tracker will do well to consider the Steel HR. Just keep in mind that Nokia has now sold its digital hand to protect from Withings, so the rebrand works.

Ticwatch E

With the passing of Pebble, the Ticwatch E is now our plucky smartwatch launch choice. Previously, we recommended the feature-rich Ticwatch 2 with independent Ticwear OS, as well as GPS, heart rate, etc. It still works for those looking for something left, but now we'll switch our official support for the new Ticwatch E.

It runs the Wear operating system and strips features down to a bare minimum, but at a reasonable $159.99 it's a solid alternative to the Apple Watch. It has a 1.4-inch OLED display with a crisp 400x400 resolution that matches well Apple screen Watch.

The design is fun and quirky, and it's a great relief from the monotony of the same old brands, but with the confidence and stability of Wear OS under the hood. If you don't mind waiting a few months, you can also explore the upcoming Ticwatch Pro, which will debut on some fancy screens.

LG Watch Sport

The next stop on your journey of Apple Watch alternatives should be our recommended all-in-one Wear OS, the LG Watch Sport. It's the flagship device for the updated Wear 2.0, with rugged trainers and built-in GPS, a full and untethered experience from your phone over LTE, not to mention NFC for payments. If you still want to make a Smartwatch, then you can do much worse than beautiful and smart flagship smartphone LG.

Garmin Vivoactive 3

Apple Watch offers a solid sports tracking experience, but with Vivoactive 3 Music it's aimed at sports gamers. It will cover running, cycling, golf and more through the Connect IQ store. It will even cover gym training with the addition of a reputation meter. Garmin Pay is added to the mix, allowing you to make payments from your wrist and improved notification support that now lets you reply to your messages. It now offers a built-in music player and the ability to download offline playlists from Deezer.

Battery life comes first and the new circular design is a huge step up from its predecessor Vivoactive HR. Get our final pick with our Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music review.

Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45

Yes, it's the most expensive Wear OS out there by some distance, but if you want a luxury smartwatch around your wrist, it doesn't get much better than this.

The second Tag Connected looks like a classic beginner tag, with top-notch build quality and plenty of impressively detailed custom clocks. Wearing OS is something that works, but definitely takes up more back seats than Wear alternatives from LG, Motorola and co. With NFC and GPS on board, you're well taken care of what you need.

The tag is definitely on a winner here - check out our full review Modular 45 for more detailed information. Too big? You can now shave 4mm with the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 41.

Michael Kors Access Sofie

If you want a good looking Wear OS smartwatch, Fossil is currently servicing some of best options right now. And his Michael Kors Access collection is definitely the pieces that stand out above the rest.

The men's (Grayson) and women's (Sofie) versions both feature a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a diagonal of 454 x 454 pixels and work in latest version operating room Google systems Smartwatch. This means you'll be able to enjoy features like the ability to download apps, customizable viewing faces, and access to Google Assistant.

There are no sports tracking features and unfortunately NFC is missing too, which means you can't buy things with this smartwatch. But it gives you the basic Wear OS experience, wrapped in a design you really need around your wrist. As we mentioned, the new Michael Kors Access Wear watch is also on the way and adds a bunch of great features. So it might be worth spending on a new collection.

If the Sofie is the one for you, you can read our Michael Kors Access Sofie review to learn more about one of our Fossil faves.

Kate Spade New York Scallop

The best sign that smartwatches for women are getting better, the Kate Spade New York Scallop is as great as it comes. The 1.19-inch AMOLED display is housed in a 42mm body, making it the same size as the larger Apple Watch, but the Scallop has a nicer design.

What you don't get is so many features - it's particularly lacking in the fitness department if that's important to you, but what it does do is good. You have the Wear operating system and all its standard features and apps at your disposal, plus plenty of Kate Spade-designed designs to give your watch that extra personal touch.
