Samsung galaxy s7 antutu results. Games on Galaxy S7 edge

Samsung thought about the design in 2015, presenting the stylish and beautiful Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. True, they were noticeably similar to each other - the second only had a curved screen. With the Galaxy S7 edge, the story is completely different - not only is it larger, but it also has a different body shape.

However, “other” is a strong word. The manufacturer rather took certain steps to make both phones more different from each other, and to make the curved version look better, since it has such an extra charge for the image.

samsung galaxy S7 edge turned out to be round and slick. The glass protrudes from the case, smoothly enters the side ends, and they are also slightly rounded. He's all so streamlined and "glossy". It turned out even more unusual than it was with the first Galaxy S6 edge.

From the front side, it seems that the smartphone is made entirely of glass - it's really scary to drop it, although the glass here is very strong, Gorilla glass 4 in itself best version. I will note one negative point - the speaker was painted black, so the paint may wear off over time. It would be better to leave it silver, as it was before for all tube options.

In general, I counted three available colors: black Galaxy S7 edge black, white Galaxy S7 edge white and gold Galaxy S7 edge gold. This time only have gold metal on back cover shimmers beautifully, while in the other two this effect is simply not visible.

What else happened to the Galaxy S7 edge compared to its predecessor? At the back, it is slightly curved on the sides to fit better in the hand, but the “simple” Galaxy S7 has a much more comfortable body shape anyway. Like it or not, but the curved screen makes the sides thin, which is not very comfortable, although you can get used to it. Ergonomics were sacrificed for the sake of the image - a normal phenomenon.

Further, the thickness of the smartphone has grown. Compared to the Galaxy S6 edge, the novelty added 0.7 mm to the waist - up to 7.7 mm. At the same time, he thinner Galaxy S7 with its 7.9mm. It's all about the battery of decent capacity 3600 mAh - so much for large Samsung smartphones was not there yet. And the most surprising thing is that the weight of the tube is quite small - only 157 grams! For a 5.5-inch "shovel" is quite a bit. I will say more - Galaxy S7 weighs 152 grams, although there is a 5.1-inch display and a 3000 mAh battery. Samsung with "edge" is clearly overdone.

So it turns out that the Galaxy S7 edge has got an improved, even more stylish and original appearance. It is well built, it is light weight and, I forgot to say, there is protection against water and dust according to the IP68 standard.

Connectors and controls

The curved screen did not affect the controls and connectors of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge in any way. Everything is in the usual places, located as conveniently as possible.

Above the screen there is a complete set of all sorts of things: a speaker, light and proximity sensors, as well as a front camera lens. Also hidden under the body is invisible until it burns, led indicator events.

Under the screen there are three buttons: touch Back and application manager and mechanical Home. The first two are not visible without backlighting, and the last one has a built-in fingerprint scanner.

You can add a fingerprint in the "Lock screen and security" section, inside the Fingerprints item. But first you will be asked to enter a pattern, password or PIN for an alternative unlock.

Registration takes less than a minute - you need to put your finger on the sensor several times.

Then you can unlock the smartphone with your finger - it takes less than a second to recognize it. If something is wrong with the finger, then you can use the chosen fallback. For greater clarity, I propose to see how the fingerprint works on our video:

At the back, all elements are grouped at the top. The manufacturer's logo, camera lens, LED flash and heart rate monitor were placed here.

On the left side are the volume buttons.

On the right you can see only the power button.

All connectors are located below: 3.5 mm minijack for headphones and headset, microUSB, spoken microphone, external speaker. There are also plastic antenna inserts on the sides.

There are also antenna leads on the top. In addition to them, a noise-canceling microphone and a compartment for a SIM card and a microSD card were transferred here.

The compartment opens with an ejector or a paper clip. The holder is made of plastic and microSD and nanoSIM cards are inserted into it. You cannot install two SIM cards - for this there is a Galaxy S7 edge Duos, which is not officially supplied to us. If you can't figure out how to insert a SIM card into the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, then our short video will help solve the problem:

The ergonomics of the Korean flagship is generally good. If you do not remember the thin side ends, then it lies perfectly in the hand, without bursting it at all. All connectors are placed in convenient places, including the audio jack - below it is the place.

Contents of delivery

Galaxy S7 edge came to me in a white faceless box, as it was provided by Samsung itself. In retail, it has a different packaging, but the delivery set that was inside clearly matches.

So with a smartphone you will get a charger, a USB cable, a good headset, an ejector and an adapter for a regular USB connector. The latter will not be superfluous, since it allows you to connect flash drives and other peripherals, as well as transfer data from another smartphone.

Case for Galaxy S7 edge

Buying a case or cover for the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is as easy as shelling pears - this is a very popular phone, so there are a lot of such accessories on the market, both from the manufacturer and from third-party companies.

Here is a branded case for the Galaxy S7 edge made of silicone that costs 3,000 rubles. Its main feature is that it is transparent.

Silicone is silicone, but the skin feels much nicer to the touch. A cover for the Galaxy S7 edge called Leather Cover costs around 3,500 rubles.

This book case for the Galaxy S7 edge is much more expensive - they ask for 6,000 rubles for it. But it has a few features: it is made of leather, it protects the screen, and it can also show notifications from the display.

Here is a cover with a window for the Galaxy S7 edge is cheaper - 3600 rubles.

As you can see, there are only a lot of standard options. And if you search further, you can find dozens of cases for the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.

Galaxy S7 screen

The screen is undoubtedly the main feature of the Galaxy S7 edge. Actually, it is on him that Samsung is pushing in the entire Edge line. So far, only she managed to profitably sell this technology, and soon smartphones with similar "properties" will become available to other companies - shipments of the corresponding displays have already begun.

However, the most best samsung left for her flagship. At the beginning of 2016 Year Galaxy S7 edge is the company's most expensive smartphone, if you take the model in the basic delivery. And it is for the screen that you have to pay. For the technology and appearance of the handset, its image component. But this does not change the fact that the used display is the best on the market.

By "best" I mean great picture quality, widest viewing angles, natural color reproduction, protective glass Gorilla Glass 4. The display does not fade in the sun, it has a large margin of brightness. Add to that the deep blacks that are a hallmark of OLED technology. Yes, I completely forgot, the matrix here is Super AMOLED.

The screen resolution is 2560x1440 pixels, which with a diagonal of 5.5 "gives a dot density of 534 ppi. These are almost the maximum figures for today and more, in general, is not needed. Even for a helmet virtual reality such a clear picture will suffice.

In terms of objective measurements, the display of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is also excellent. So the brightness was measured at 438.67 cd / m 2, which is a very good indicator. Let me remind you that before, AMOLED matrices had a chance to get results about 80-100 cd / m 2 lower. And I already wrote about the black color - it does not look gray, and relatively speaking, the contrast tends to infinity.

Even in Samsung smartphones with Super AMOLED matrices, you can customize screen profiles. There are two most useful ones: Basic and Adaptive. By default, the second one is active and it provides a noticeably wider color gamut, approaching the closure of the Adobe RGB space. "Basic" is not so cool, but the colors become softer, not so bright and saturated - IPS matrices are usually loved for them.

The situation with the color temperature is better with the "Main" profile. It immediately becomes clear where this “softness” comes from: the temperature is closer to the optimal value of 6500K, that is, the image is warmer. But the Adaptive profile gives a colder picture, although its excess does not go beyond what can be seen on most phones.

Gamma Curves Galaxy Screen The S7 edge looks great on both profiles. In other words, all fragments of the picture are displayed with the correct brightness - without unnecessary dimming or flare.

As expected, the screen of the best smartphone recognizes up to ten simultaneous touches.

There are much more settings on the display than can be found on most smartphones. So here you can choose the profile you need.

Of course, the parameters of the curved part of the screen are also configured from here.

One of the functions is the night clock, which is switched on only during certain time days.

With a quick movement along the bend, you can turn on the so-called channels - information lines with certain information.

And there is also such a thing as “Edge backlighting” - if you put your smartphone with the screen down, then notifications and incoming calls will be shown with color indication.

Another "edge-function" is Apps edge. See the strip on the right in the screenshots? If you pull it, you can pull out a panel with program shortcuts, with contacts, all sorts of news feeds and the like - all this is configurable.

But this is not the end! Among the new features of the Galaxy S7 edge (and Galaxy S7 too) included something called Always On Display, which can be translated as “always on screen”.

No, we are not talking about the always active display, it only displays the time and notifications. The watch face can be customized, or completely replaced with a calendar or pattern.

And so background picture hours can be assigned. I must say that Always On turned out to be a very cool innovation. It would seem that there is nothing like that, but I didn’t want to part with such a smartphone, it got used to it very quickly.

Undoubtedly, the screen is one of the strongest components of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. You can look at a smartphone only because of it. And the point is not only in the excellent quality of the picture with all the consequences, but also in such useful features as Always On. As for the bend, despite the efforts of the manufacturer, I don’t see something really useful in the invented use cases, without which you can’t live. Always On turned out to be noticeably better in this regard.

Galaxy S7 edge camera

Certain metamorphoses have taken place with the camera of the Galaxy S7 family. For the first time, there are fewer megapixels in it, not more. Samsung decided to clearly show that “happyness is not in megapixels” and that they have no effect on the quality of shooting. After all, the same quality just increased.

In fact, the Korean company decided to use the following trick: the picture is taken at a resolution of 24 MP, and then compressed into 12 MP. "Extra" pixels are needed to improve the photo, to make the colors more natural, and sharper. Let me remind you that the camera of the predecessors took 16 MP frames.

Meanwhile, the camera application itself has not changed much. Is that black stripes are now displayed on the sides due to the fact that the pictures are now taken with an aspect ratio of 4:3. But the "bands" are not empty - the buttons for releasing the shutter, turning on filters, changing resolution, and so on are placed here.

As always, there are a lot of shooting modes - Samsung flagships have the maximum number of them. And there’s also a new “Food” mode, where the background of the photo is blurred for more beauty of the next culinary masterpiece. But in general, the “Pro” mode is the most interesting, where it is possible to fine-tune the shooting parameters.

Here you set the level of sensitivity, exposure time, exposure compensation, white balance and even autofocus.

As I said, the maximum resolution is available at an aspect ratio of 4:3. If you turn on the 16:9 option, which corresponds to the screen ratio, then the frames will look better on a smartphone, but you will lose information from above and below - it will simply be cut off.

The picture quality is really great. Of course, for a smartphone - it falls short of a DSLR. But that's the trick, that the vast majority of people do not need it better. And so Galaxy S7 edge provides natural beautiful colors, correct white balance, good night shooting. By the way, the smartphone's lens sensitivity was increased to f/1.7, while the maximum aperture of the Galaxy S6 edge did not exceed f/1.9.

The video resolution is Ultra HD, it is also 4K, it is also 3840x2160 pixels. For top-end smartphones, this has long been the norm. Looking forward to 8K?

The video is also excellent: very clear, with good colors, smooth.

The front camera shoots with a resolution of 5 MP and with an aspect ratio of 4:3. In addition, it has several shooting modes.

Comes out good, right? Of course, not as cool as with the rear camera, but the front one also decently shoots. The pictures lack sharpness, but otherwise everything is fine here in terms of colors, aberrations, and so on. And also at front camera also raised the light sensitivity of the lens, raising it to f / 1.9.

The video resolution from the front sensor is also high - 2560x1440 pixels. Most phones here have never seen more than Full HD or 1920x1080.

Video from the front camera looks very decent. Suitable for any occasion.

The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge are excellent. According to the totality of parameters, they are the best on the market, if we take the beginning of 2016. Whether someone will surpass them before the release of the next flagship of the company is a big question.

Specifications Galaxy S7 edge

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is not the only smartphone in the model range manufacturer in early 2016. Of course, there is also a Galaxy S7 with a smaller screen, but with exactly the same characteristics. And besides, there is the Galaxy S7 edge Duos with dual SIM support; it is designated SM-G935FD and shipped mainly to Asian countries. In our case, we have to deal with the global version marked SM-G935F.

FROM Galaxy specifications The S7 edge has gone through some transformation when compared to 2015 flagships. Samsung first used in the processor computing cores of its own design, which allows it to become like Qualcomm and Apple, which have done this much earlier.

In general, the Exynos 8890 chipset looks more than impressive. It’s worth starting with those very “own” Exynos M1 cores (codename Mongoose), of which there are four pieces. Their frequency depends on the number of cores involved: if it is 1-2 pieces, then they operate at speeds up to 2.6 GHz, and if 3-4 pieces, then the frequency will not rise above 2.3 GHz. This allows you to achieve higher speed in single-threaded mode and lower power consumption in multi-threaded mode.

However, to save money, there are still four Cortex-A53 cores operating at a frequency of 1.6 GHz. Yes, Samsung made its Exynos M1 compatible with the big.LITTLE architecture, which allows you to combine cores different types. Another thing to mention about the Exynos 8890 is that it is manufactured using the second generation 14nm process technology, which provides better energy efficiency.

Now let's move on to the video card. Samsung has tried and here. No, not yet own GPU she doesn't, so she took advantage of the best that ARM has: the Mali-T880. Moreover, in the MP12 version, that is, with twelve execution pipelines. All of them operate at 650 MHz, which is very good. I will also add that the accelerator supports all modern APIs: OpenGL ES 3.1, DirectX 11.2 and OpenCL 1.2.

Volume random access memory reached the value of 4 GB - this is now also the norm for top solutions. Objectively, more is not needed yet, although Galaxy Note 6 promise 6 GB of RAM. The built-in flash memory has 32 GB, which is also not bad - 64 GB in the minimum version will obviously have to wait another year or two, although Galaxy version S7 edge with such a volume exists.

But the main thing here is that they allowed the installation of maps microSD memory, the volume of which can reach the maximum possible today 200 GB. True, such a map cannot be assigned as the main storage - this is one of the new android features 6.0 is not available in Samsung smartphone. This was done on purpose, since the main memory is connected via a high-speed UFS 2.0 interface, and switching to a flash drive will mean a guaranteed drop in speed. In addition, if something happens to the card, then you will simply lose all the data.

Other technological innovations on the Galaxy S7 edge include new module communication that supports the LTE Cat.12 standard. This is the fastest that is at the beginning of 2016 - the speed of receiving data reaches 600 Mbps, and sending - 150 Mbps. There are simply no such networks in the world yet, so this is all “for the future”. In addition, there is support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC.

That's about it. Galaxy S7 edge looks very cool - in aggregate it is simply not better. Technologically, the smartphone is even more perfect than the Galaxy S7 because of its curved screen. It is all the more interesting to see what kind of performance it shows curved flagship Samsung.

Performance Testing

In April 2016, when I had the Galaxy S7 edge for testing, it is difficult to compare it with something - there were no current competitors at hand. So I will give the results of the flagship of 2015, namely. Let me remind you that this smartphone has a 5.7-inch curved screen with a resolution of 2560x1440, an Exynos 7420 processor and 4 GB of RAM. That is, with the exception of the processor, the characteristics of the phones are largely the same.

I'll start with the old Quadrant test, which is in many ways indicative. Even with simple algorithms, the new device copes much better than its predecessor - almost twofold superiority!

SunSpider is a well-known browser-based JavaScript test, where the novelty showed itself in all its glory. Let me remind you that the benchmark is executed in one thread, which means that the S7 edge processor was able to overclock to the maximum possible 2.6 GHz. Together with the overall efficiency of the new cores, the result is natural - it came out ahead by a wide margin. I will make a reservation that the units of measurement in SunSpider are milliseconds, and therefore the smaller the number, the better.

Smartphones with a large screen resolution do not always cope well with the old electopia game - not everyone reaches the maximum 60 FPS. But both top-end Samsung did not hit the face in the dirt.

Another thing is 3DMark, where the Galaxy S7 edge was ahead, but not very significantly. I believe this is due to the somewhat outdated nature of the Ice Storm test.

But GFX Bench distributes the load in a different way, and therefore it turned out to be more than two times superior to the new Samsung flagship.

Galaxy S7 edge in Antutu

I left the results in the popular Antutu test “for a snack”.

The numbers are extremely eloquent: Galaxy S7 edge just tore its predecessor. I will say more - the novelty is the most fast smartphone in the world, if we take the first half of 2016. And it’s not a fact that the summer Galaxy Note 6 will be faster - the manufacturer probably uses the same processor there.

Autonomy Galaxy S7 edge

Now let's see what the autonomy of the Galaxy S7 edge is, if we refer to the indicators.

The tubes came nostril-to-nostril. True, we must make a reservation that the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has a decent battery capacity of 3600 mAh, while the Galaxy S6 edge + has only 3000 mAh, and the screen is a bit larger. Apparently, the new apparatus uses additional energy to ensure its own high performance. But in any case, his result is very high - one of the best I've ever seen. Better only for bricks with huge batteries of 4000 mAh or more.

With energy consumption, in principle, everything is without surprises. The most voracious task, as expected, turned out to be 3D games, and at the same time surfing the Internet. In general, the included screen consumes a decent amount of charge, which is normal.

The extreme power saving mode, which first appeared on. If someone is not in the know, then when it is activated, the smartphone turns on a black and white color scheme, in which the AMOLED screen consumes very little energy.

Total Galaxy S7 edge showed highest performance, and at the same time excellent autonomy. According to these parameters, the phone is at least one of the best.

Games on Galaxy S7 edge

Games on the Galaxy S7 edge do not slow down, which is logical. The main thing is that you need to be in Play store store.

  • Riptide GP2: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Asphalt 7: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Asphalt 8: noticeable delays are visible;

  • Modern Combat 5: excellent, the game does not slow down;
  • N.O.V.A. 3: some delays are visible;

  • Dead Trigger: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Dead Trigger 2: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Real Racing 3: some delays are visible;

  • Need for Speed: No Limits: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Shadowgun: Dead Zone: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Frontline Commando: Normandy: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Frontline Commando 2: noticeable delays are visible;

  • Eternity Warriors 2: excellent, the game does not slow down;
  • Eternity Warriors 3: not in the Play Market;

  • Eternity Warriors 4: some delays are visible;

  • Trial Xtreme 3: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Trial Xtreme 4: excellent, the game does not slow down;
  • dead effect: not in the Play Market;

  • Dead Effect 2: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Plants vs Zombies 2: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • Iron Man 3: excellent, the game does not slow down;

  • dead target: excellent, the game does not slow down.

So it is - all our test titles have launched. There were absolutely no problems with them.

ON

Samsung, as always, released its flagship based on the latest version of the operating system that was available at the time of the announcement. I mean the stable final version, that is, in relation to the Galaxy S7 edge, this is Android 6.0. , which was available as an Android N beta in early 2016, will no doubt be finalized and adapted to the smartphone towards the end of 2016.

As always, Samsung's TouchWIZ proprietary shell is installed on top of Android, which is well-known to many, although its evolution does not stop. So it is getting closer and closer to the native interface of the "robot", although this time there are almost no global changes.

So from the new I found the possibility of increasing the size of the screen grid. Usually it can be reduced, but the Galaxy S7 edge has the smallest 4x4 enabled by default. Moreover, if you remember that you have to deal with a 5.5-inch device, you can safely activate the 5x5 mode. On the “simple” Galaxy S7, such a grid looks small, but on the “edge” just right.

The notification panel has changed noticeably, but only in terms of color scheme. Now it is not green-blue, but gray-white. Basically it turned out nice. The panel has also been improved here quick settings, which can be expanded from a modest strip on top into a whole screen of different icons. In this respect, the shell again came close to the "naked" Android.

The task manager remained the same, almost indistinguishable from the original. Samsung's improvements here lie in the possibility of activating the split-screen mode into two parts, and at the same time the "Close All" button from the bottom.

There are a certain number of new items in the settings, and some of the old ones have been changed in terms of adding new functionality. So, the “Smart Shutdown” feature was moved to the section about the screen - when it is enabled, the phone will not turn off the screen while you are looking at it.

The section "Additional functions" is interesting, where there is various options, including "One-hand operation". Its name speaks for itself. The mode is activated by triple pressing the Home button.

On a 5.5-inch display, the presence of such a mode makes sense. After turning on, all screen contents are proportionally reduced and displayed in a small rectangle in the lower right corner. It can also be pressed to the left edge. If you do not activate one-handed control by triple pressing, but it will be enabled in the settings, then this will also be reflected on the keyboard, which will be reduced.

There are not very many NFC settings - this module is used mainly for payments.

Smart Manager, introduced in 2015 as separate application to optimize and ensure the protection of information on a smartphone, has now become part of the settings, although its interface has not changed.

The Game Tools toolkit (game tools) has also been added. It is designed to make the gameplay easier. So here you can turn off all notifications during the game, block the touch buttons under the screen, as well as minimize the game. Another utility provides screenshots and recording of the game itself.

In general, Samsung has done some work with screenshots. By default, the mode is active, in which, after taking a screenshot, a special toolbar appears, where the screenshot can be sent by mail or to social network, crop some more, or "take a picture" of the rest of the content if it doesn't fit on one screen. In a normal situation, quite useful functionality, although, of course, taking dozens of screenshots at a time for review, this thing starts to strain.

Now let's go through the applications. Some of them are available from the Galaxy Apps store in the Galaxy Essentials section. From here you can download them for free: the "Kids" mode, text recognition, S Note notes, S Translator translator, Soundcamp audio editor, SnapBizCard business card scanner and others. In general, a very good approach - if you need something, then you download it, otherwise programs do not take up precious phone memory.

As a result, all applications on the Galaxy S7 edge managed to fit on one screen. However, some of them are sorted into folders: file manager, voice recorder, S Health, Google services, Instagram, WhatsApp and a suite of software from Microsoft. Let me remind you that from the latter you get Office, and another 100 GB for 2 years in OneDrive storage.

I have seen all these applications many times, except perhaps for Galaxy Care. There is something similar on Lenovo smartphones- this is special utility to solve smartphone problems. From here, among other things, you can contact Samsung support and ask a question of interest.

Another new one is Smart Switch Mobile. This program is needed to transfer data from any smartphone to your new galaxy S7 edge. You can copy from any device on iOS, Android or BlackBerry. Moreover, the connection is made directly via USB - remember the adapter in the kit? Here is how you can use it.

The S Health activity diary is also in place. Here again something has been added, something has been improved. And, as always, from here you can measure the pulse through the built-in heart rate monitor.

Other applications are of little interest. This is a typical set of calculator, alarm clock, calendar, file manager and so on.

In terms of software, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge did not blunder either. It offers a well-known comfortable and not overloaded shell. There is a standard set of applications, a few additional ones, and at the same time a complete set of useful features. In addition, part proprietary utilities can be additionally downloaded from the Internet.

Conclusion

As I expected, the Galaxy S7 edge deserves the title of the best smartphone of 2016. The handset turned out to be extremely successful, with an unusual design due to the curved screen, very fast, with an excellent camera and a bunch of new really useful features.

I really liked the Always-On feature. It would seem - what is in it? Yes, and you can’t call it new, many previously released smartphones have it. But this is the first time that the notifications on the screen burn “in full force”, remaining perfectly visible at all times. And this, let me remind you, consumes almost no energy - it’s not for nothing that Always-On is active by default.

The Galaxy S7 edge has no cons as such. However, you can find fault with the non-separable case, and the peeling paint from the conversational speaker, but this is unlikely to be a reason to refuse the purchase. Moreover, Samsung has eliminated the main drawback of the Galaxy S6 - the lack of a slot for memory cards.

You can sing the praises of the Galaxy S7 edge for a long time. If you need a short summary of its pros and cons, then below it is given. But before that, let's figure out what's going on with the price.

Galaxy S7 price

You can buy Galaxy S7 edge for 60 thousand rubles. This is 10 thousand more expensive than the Galaxy S7 and generally a very decent amount. On the other hand, you get the most technologically advanced smartphone on the market, which as such has no adequate competitors.

LG G5 turned out extremely unusual phone, because of which it can be considered an alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. True, its “unusualness” comes from the possibility of buying and installing additional modules, and at the same time the specific design of the case. That is, it is a competitor in terms of an atypical approach to creating a product, but not a head-on collision in terms of characteristics. The LG G5 has its own unique features, although its performance is more than good.

HTC 10 to its fourth generation (I count it from HTC One M7 of 2013) has finally turned into the same “dream smartphone”. But no matter how late it is, the company is not well known, which is extremely bad. However, in any case, HTC 10 has got top parameters, finally got good camera, it still has the same great design and great metal body.

Huawei P9 Plus is a clear competitor to the Galaxy S7 edge, since it has a screen of the same diagonal, i.e. 5.5". True, its resolution is only 1920x1080 pixels, which is not very much by modern flagship standards. But it is a Super AMOLED matrix. But in general, the tube has an excellent HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor, 64 GB of flash memory, 4 GB of RAM, a connector USB Type-C, as well as a camera from Leica.

5.5 inch Apple iPhone 6s Plus on the background of the Galaxy S7 edge looks quite pale. The 16 GB version (without the possibility of expansion, I note!) Costs 61-62 thousand, but at the same time, the smartphone has a worse processor, camera, noticeably more weight, not so good autonomy, much more fragile protective glass of the display, and its resolution is lower. All that Apple offers in this case is brand strength.

Pros:

  • unique stylish design;
  • metal body;
  • excellent build quality;
  • moisture protection according to the IP68 standard;
  • curved Super AMOLED screen with excellent color reproduction and high WQHD resolution;
  • always-on function;
  • best performance at the beginning of 2016;
  • very high performance;
  • excellent rear camera with support for 4K video recording;
  • good 5-megapixel front camera with support for WQHD-video;
  • fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor;
  • lightweight TouchWIZ shell on top of Android 6;
  • good autonomy;
  • many branded accessories;
  • native support wireless charging;
  • fast charging battery;
  • small weight and dimensions for a 5.1-inch smartphone;
  • brought back support for memory cards;
  • USB adapter included;
  • light weight for its size.

Minuses:

  • non-separable body;
  • black versions may peel off the paint from the speaker.

AnTuTu developers have published the first official results of the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy flagship S7 with a Snapdragon 820 chip. As expected, the smartphone showed top performance, the best among Android counterparts, but still not the highest in its class.

He dialed 125,288 points, which is significantly more than its predecessors, which scored about 82,000 points. And yet, on this moment this is not the maximum bar - according to the official ones, the leadership is still held by the iPhone 6S Plus with 132,640 points. coming second Huawei Mate 8 is inferior to him about 40,000.

It is noted that the loss of the Galaxy S7 is based only on a much higher display resolution - 2560x1440 versus 1920x1080 pixels for the Apple phablet. Often this is what plays a decisive role in evaluating the same 3D performance. If the Samsung novelty had a Full HD screen, the results of such tests would have been completely different.

Recall that only in one of the modifications of the Galaxy S7 will receive a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, while the version for the European market will be equipped with an eight-core Exynos 8890. Otherwise, everything is identical: 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM; 32/64 GB of internal memory UFS 2.0 with support microSD cards, 12 MP main camera with F/1.7 aperture, 8 MP front module, 3000 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner hidden in a mechanical button. The flagship is being announced on February 21st.

Part 1: Introduction and performance comparison with iPhone 6s Plus and Moto X Force

The announcement of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge at Mobile World Congress 2016 has become one of the main IT events of recent weeks. And although in general there is nothing revolutionary in these smartphones - it is rather an evolution in relation to and S6 Edge, and not a revolution, nevertheless, from the first impressions and from the totality of the voiced information about the new products, the impression was that it really was almost the best flagships of the first half of 2016. Now that we've received the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for testing, it's time to check if it's true or not.

We talked about our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in a report from the presentation. Here we emphasize that although Samsung, like a year ago, releases two smartphones at the same time and maintains its positioning, there are still more hardware differences between them than between the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Firstly, the display of the two new products differs not only in the presence or absence of curvature, but also in the diagonal - 5.1 inches in the case of the Galaxy S7 and 5.5 inches in the case of the S7 Edge. Secondly, the battery capacity, which was almost the same in the S6 and S6 Edge, now differs quite significantly: in the S7 this figure is 3000 mAh, and in the S7 Edge it is already 3600 mAh.

Apparently, the manufacturer decided to more thoroughly argue the difference in price between the S7 and S7 Edge. According to pre-order in Russia, smartphones cost 49,990 and 59,990 rubles, respectively. 10,000 rubles difference just for the spectacular curve of the screen is a bit much, but if you add to this a more capacious battery and a larger screen area, it turns out to be much more interesting.

We especially note that when pre-ordering, the user receives a helmet as a gift Samsung Gear VR of the second generation, which separately costs almost 8,000 rubles. Nice bonus!

Let's take a look at the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

*according to manufacturer's official data

The table clearly shows what major changes have occurred in the novelty compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +. First of all, there is support for microSD memory cards. In addition, the smartphone is now equipped with a new SoC and a significantly more capacious battery. True, two parameters can confuse those who choose between the Galaxy S7 Edge and S6 Edge+. Firstly, the novelty has become a little thicker, and secondly, the rear camera now has a resolution of 12 megapixels instead of the previous 16 megapixels. However, both are justified by some technological features, which we will discuss later, so you should not immediately write it down as a minus.

As for the comparison with the Moto X Force, the smaller amount of RAM is noteworthy here. And, of course, the screen does not have a curve (although, according to Lenovo, which owns the Moto brand, it is also plastic). As for the rest of the differences (SoC and camera parameters), here you need to test. The same is true for the iPhone 6s Plus, where a direct comparison of characteristics is generally pointless due to different operating systems. But it is worth noting that compared to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Moto X Force, the iPhone 6s Plus has a much less capacious battery, although the dimensions are not smaller (only thickness).

However, let's move on to direct testing and in the process we will already answer a number of questions that arose when comparing characteristics. Including, on the main one: which smartphone is the most productive at the moment.

Equipment

The smartphone came to us in a test box, different from those that will be on the counter. Alas, it was not at all a beautiful suitcase, like our colleagues from Poland, but just a white cardboard box. However, the package inside appears to match what shoppers will get in the store.

This charger supports Quick Charge, Micro USB cable- USB, a key to remove the cradle of the SIM card and memory card, OTG adapter(to connect external USB drives with a full-size plug), as well as headphones in a separate plastic box and with an additional set of rubber ear pads.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + had the same headphones, and, admittedly, it was not in vain that the manufacturer put them back. They have a tangle-free flat wire, a very comfortable shape of the ear pads, and most importantly, a decent sound. We tested it on the FLAC version of the new Massive Attack EP "Ritual Spirit" (by the way, the smartphone plays FLAC tracks without any problems) and were pleasantly surprised by the deep bass transfer in the songs Dead Editors and Take It There.

Concerning charger- we will tell you in more detail about all issues related to the battery and recharging in the second part of the article, but for now we will report only one result: in 15 minutes with the help of the complete charging unit, the smartphone was charged by 20%. A very good result!

Design

In terms of appearance The differences between the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the S6 Edge+ and 6S Edge are minimal - first of all, they concern slightly changed sizes. And yet, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge can without any doubt be called one of the most beautiful modern smartphones.

Almost the entire front panel is occupied by a screen that wraps effectively on both sides along the long sides. And this is not only delightful in itself, but also creates the illusion of a complete lack of frames. In fact, of course, there are frames, but they are already quite thin, and thanks to the rounding of the screen, they seem quite insignificant.

Both the front and rear panels are completely covered with glass. They are quite easily soiled, especially if we are talking about the black version of the smartphone (there will also be silver and platinum versions on sale), but they still look great. Very narrow zones above and below the screen is also a plus. Thanks to this, at the same size samsung screen The Galaxy S7 Edge is significantly more compact than the iPhone 6s Plus. True, the iPhone is quite a bit thinner, but it's completely unnoticeable. And thanks to the narrowing of the side edges, the Samsung smartphone seems even thinner than the Apple device.

In general, the size of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is optimal. S6 Edge + was still too big and in the hand was not so comfortable. But S7 Edge - just right! Of course, because of the glass in front and behind it is slippery, you are afraid to drop it, but still it is pleasant to hold it in your hand.

All faces, like its predecessor, are made of metal, buttons too. They are pressed with a pleasant elasticity. The layout of buttons and connectors is similar to the previous model. On the right is the power button, on the left are separate volume buttons.

On the bottom edge there is a speaker, a Micro-USB connector with OTG support (it is strange that Samsung does not switch to USB Type C, unlike many other manufacturers), a 3.5 mm headset jack and a hole for the built-in microphone. It is curious that the location of this hole has changed, that is, inside, apparently, the internal layout of the components has undergone significant changes. As for the speaker, its maximum volume is quite sufficient not to miss a call / alarm clock, and to watch movies or videos, but, of course, you should not use it to listen to music due to unnecessary overtones and the not very pleasant nature of the sound in in general. However, it would be strange to expect something different from a device of this form factor.

On the top side we see another microphone hole and a combined slot for a SIM card and a microSD memory card. Yes, as we said, Samsung has fixed one of the main shortcomings of the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge + by adding memory card support to the Galaxy S7 Edge. And given that the manufacturer is especially proud of the smartphone’s camera, this is especially true, since 32 GB of its own memory for a camera phone that shoots video in 4K is frankly not enough.

At the top of the front panel, next to the eyes of the front camera and sensors, there is an LED event indicator. The large round dot lights up in different colors depending on the battery charging status or incoming messages. This element was before, but I'm glad that Samsung did not sacrifice it.

The rear camera lens still protrudes quite a bit above the level of the rear panel glass, but this can hardly be considered a serious drawback.

There is also a home button on the front panel. But this is even a plus, because it is easier to find it by touch. And you will have to do this every time you turn on the smartphone, since this button has a fingerprint sensor. It works very quickly, the recognition rate is very good, so there are no complaints here.

Despite the fact that outwardly the design has changed minimally, the new smartphone has one very important quality: waterproofness according to the IP68 standard. At the same time, there are no plugs on the ports here. That is, moisture protection is provided due to the design and materials. This, of course, is a wonderful and unexpected gift, a real feat of engineers!

In general, the design deserves the highest marks. Of course, its subjective perception depends primarily on how much you basically like the screen, bending on the edge. There are people who don't like it. But even they are unlikely to argue with the fact that the design of the Galaxy S7 Edge is certainly original (except, of course, its predecessors), and thanks to the excellent ratio of dimensions and display size, the smartphone is also very practical. It will easily fit into any pocket and will fit comfortably even in a small hand. As a huge plus, we note the appearance of a slot for memory cards, and the absence of a green option should be noted among the minuses. In Galaxy S6 Edge, it was the green ("emerald") version that was one of the most attractive, original and stylish.

The color options for the new member of the Edge family are also quite good. But here is a strange situation: only black, gold and silver options are available for pre-order in Russia. But white is not. Although we saw him at the exhibition and, to be honest, we liked him the most. It has a very interesting pearl shade. The black device that we currently have for testing seems a little less winning and practical (due to fingerprints), although the color is still interesting, deep, and not banal.

Performance

The smartphone runs on the new Exynos 8890 Octa SoC, made using the 14 nm process technology, improved with FinFET LPP (Low-Power Plus) technology. It uses the new Mongoose CPU cores (four cores with a frequency of 2.6 GHz) and the already familiar four Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 1.6 GHz.

The Mali-T880 acts as a graphics accelerator.

Before Samsung did not use this SoC, that is, now we have the first acquaintance with it. And therefore, it is necessary to compare it with the main competing solutions: Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and Apple A9. Of course, it would be even more interesting if Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 participated in the comparison, but we have not yet had devices with this SoC. So let's be content with what we have, and at the same time try to answer the burning question that worries the Internet community: who is more powerful - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or Apple iPhone S6 Plus?

Let's start with browser benchmarks: SunSpider 1.0.2, Octane Benchmark, Kraken Benchmark and . On all android devices we used Chrome browser, on iOS — Safari. If there is a dash in the table field, it means that the corresponding smartphone was not tested in this benchmark (or in this version of this benchmark).

As you can see, the Android competitor and its own predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, outperforms confidently, but in the overall standings, the iPhone is still ahead.

Now let's see how the gadget performs in complex benchmarks - AnTuTu 6 and Geekbench 3.

Unfortunately, we don't have AnTuTu 6 results for the previous Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, as we tested it in the fifth version of the benchmark, which was radically different in terms of scoring principles, so it's not fair to compare the results. But AnTuTu finally worked fine on iOS. So we added the iPhone to the table too.

And again, the pattern repeats, although the superiority of the iPhone is already less, and in the multi-core mode Geekbench 3 Apple smartphone and completely loses to the new Samsung.

In addition to our ongoing testing methodology, we decided to compare the Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone 6s Plus in the Basemark OS II cross-platform benchmark. The results are in front of you. The screenshot on the left is Samsung, on the right is Apple.

As you can see, here Samsung lost. Although not in all subtests (see Memory).

The last group of benchmarks is dedicated to testing GPU performance. We used 3DMark, GFXBench and Bonsai Benchmark. All of them demonstrate real 3D scenes and allow you to visually see how devices cope with them.

Let's start with GFXBench. Recall that Offscreen tests are a display of a 1080p image on the screen, regardless of the actual screen resolution. And Onscreen tests are the output of a picture in the resolution that corresponds to the screen resolution of the device. That is, Offscreen tests are indicative in terms of the abstract performance of the SoC, and Onscreen tests are indicative of the comfort of playing on specific device. In addition, this year's Android devices used the new Car Chase scene, which uses OpenGL ES 3.1. This standard is not supported by the iPhone, so this scene is not available there, nor is the ES 3.1 version of the Manhattan scene. However, there is enough data to draw conclusions.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
(Samsung Exynos 8890 Octa)
Samsung Galaxy S6+
(Samsung Exynos 7420 Octa)
Moto X Force
(Qualcomm Snapdragon 810)
Apple iPhone 6s Plus
(Apple A9)
GFXBenchmark Car Chase ES 3.1 (Onscreen) 7.9 fps 3.2 fps
GFXBenchmark Car Chase ES 3.1 (1080p Offscreen) 15 fps 5.1 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan ES 3.1 (Onscreen) 24 fps 10 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan ES 3.1 (1080p Offscreen) 26 fps 18 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan ES 3.0 (Onscreen) 25 fps 39 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan ES 3.0 (1080p Offscreen) 38 fps 40 fps
GFXBenchmark T-Rex (Onscreen) 52 fps 37 fps 40 fps 59 fps
GFXBenchmark T-Rex (1080p Offscreen) 84 fps 57 fps 53 fps 80 fps

As we can see, the Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone 6s Plus were about equal. The difference in Onscreen mode is naturally explained more high resolution screen of the Galaxy S7 Edge. As for the comparison with other Android-smartphones, here the picture is unambiguous and does not require comments.

The next tests are 3DMark and Bonsai Benchmark. In 3DMark, the Sling Shot scene ran in OpenGL ES 3.1 on Android devices and OpenGL 3.0 on iPhone.

About Bonsai Benchmark, you can immediately say that for such productive SoCs, it is no longer indicative - in particular, this is evidenced by the results of two Samsung smartphones. But with 3DMark - more interesting. And so far, the iPhone is in the lead.

In general, benchmarks allow us to draw the following conclusions. Undoubtedly, we have before us the most powerful device, which has no equal among Android smartphones. At least until the advent of devices on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. However, Samsung's new product failed to outdo the iPhone 6s Plus - Apple's flagship is in the lead in most tests. Although the gap is minimal and is rather of theoretical interest. The practical result (performance in games) will depend primarily on how well the game will be optimized for a specific SoC.

In the second part of the article, you will find detailed testing of the screen, a story about battery life, description of the software, as well as a test drive of the camera in field conditions - on the Kola Peninsula, including underwater shooting! Do not miss!

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is not the only smartphone in the manufacturer's lineup at the beginning of 2016.

Total Galaxy S7 edge showed the highest performance, and at the same time excellent autonomy. According to these parameters, the phone is at least one of the best.

Games on Galaxy S7 edge

Games on the Galaxy S7 edge do not slow down, which is logical. The main thing is that the ones you need are in the Play Store.
