Review of LG G Pro Lite Dual (D686): impudent modesty. LG G Pro Lite Dual (D686) review: Gee's daring modesty about light dual

A simplified version of the flagship smartphone was too simplified

In the spring of this year, we published one of the best smartphones (and before the advent of LG G2, maybe the best) from model range LG company. Optimus G Pro was at that time one of the brightest and most prominent representatives of the tablet phone class (smartphones with a very large screen diagonal) and could compete even with the most samsung galaxy Note, which gave rise to the fashion for such devices. True, at that time the third representative of the Note line had not yet been released - now it is difficult for the LG tablet phone to keep up with the Galaxy Note 3, the gap is large in many aspects. However, LG Optimus G Pro is still considered one of the most visible and desirable devices among the top tablets, along with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

Pictured: LG G Pro Lite Dual versus Samsung Galaxy Note 3

But there is another life, devoid of glamor and flashes of spotlights. Now almost each of these "celestials" has a cheaper analogue - a smartphone that is much less advanced in terms of hardware (and, above all, in terms of screen quality), but has a comparable huge size. Such budget "shovel phones" differ from their top compatriots, first of all, by less powerful hardware, and their screens with a very large diagonal have a resolution far from Full HD. Accordingly, the user, as usual, has to choose: more expensive and better - or cheaper, but simpler. We have already tested enough of these simplified tablet phones: Samsung has Mega with screens of 5.8 and 6.3 inches, Huawei has Ascend Mate (6.1 inches), Sony is now launching Xperia C (a review of this model is being prepared for release), and today we will consider the same cheaper analogue of the top LG tablet phone called G Pro Lite Dual.

Unfortunately, looking ahead, it is worth noting that LG's simplified tablet phone model turned out to be too "simplified". If you look at competitors, it turns out that some have a higher screen resolution, others have more random access memory, the third - something else is necessarily better, and not one can find such an ancient and frankly weak SoC by today's standards. LG G Pro Lite Dual is based on the MediaTek MT6577 platform with two 1 GHz cores, and it is completely out of place in such a device. It turns out that in terms of the totality of all characteristics, the Korean model looks the most backward, but at the same time it costs the same or comparable money as most rivals. So this review will be more academic than practical: it is very difficult to recommend a model for purchase that costs the same as competitors, but is worse in terms of aggregate characteristics. However, for true fans of the brand, there will always be some arguments in defense, and we will try to look for them.

Appearance and usability

Externally, the smartphone is not particularly different from its Korean counterparts: a lot of gloss, a lot of shiny, smooth lacquered body, streamlined from all sides, has a typical "Asian" appearance. The smartphone is quite heavy even for its large dimensions, and the fact that almost all “shovel phones” are still overweight is not an excuse: it is still necessary to strive for the best.

The main disadvantage of the appearance of the smartphone LG G Pro Lite Dual is gloss. Thanks to the smooth lacquered finish, which the Asian market has never learned to get rid of, the smartphone not only always looks sloppy due to grease from the palms and dust, but also very slippery to hold in hands. With such a large mass and such a slippery surface, the smartphone is constantly in danger, striving to slip out of your hands.

The metallized side bezel also does not contribute to a reliable hold in the hand: a shiny element made “under the metal” is launched around the entire side perimeter. The material is smooth and also extremely slippery - the fingers in the LG G Pro Lite Dual simply have nothing to catch on.

The form factor of the LG G Pro Lite Dual smartphone is a monoblock; the glossy lacquered plastic case back is removable here. The lid is traditionally fastened on several plastic latches and removed quite easily - there are no problems with this, there is a corresponding ledge on the side for hooking with a fingernail. In general, at this point I would like to note that despite all this easily soiled gloss and an abundance of shiny elements so loved by Asians, the smartphone still feels the hand of a first-rate company. LG is now one of the top three sellers in the global smartphone market, the brand is becoming more and more popular, and the LG G Pro Lite Dual deservedly bears the logo of this company. The materials are solid, the workmanship is on top, all the details are perfectly fitted to each other, nothing creaks, does not move away, there are no cracks to be found, the build quality is not to complain about. And the gloss here is not simple: under a layer of varnish, typical for LG, a certain texture is visible, which gives the coating nobility and high cost.

If you remove the back cover, then an internal frame with several slots conveniently placed on it will open under it. Both the memory card and both SIM cards can be inserted and removed from their slots without having to remove the battery. Yes, the battery here is also removable, it is very wide in size, and it has a fair amount of weight. It is because of her that the smartphone weighs decently, but the considerable battery capacity of 3140 mAh, in principle, justifies it.

However, despite the possibility of mechanically replacing SIM cards in their slots without the need to remove the battery, their hot replacement is not supported here - the smartphone still needs to be rebooted manually. There is no difference in the sequence in which SIM cards are installed in their slots - both slots are equivalent, besides, there is a special button on the front panel for quickly changing the priority card. The cards here are used in the obsolete Mini-SIM format, so some people will have to take care of purchasing the appropriate adapters. By the way, the top of the slots is located so well and is organized so accessible that it perfectly passed the test, keeping the Nano-SIM removed from the iPhone in its contacts for several days without any adapters at all. It’s better not to experiment with the lower slot: it will be impossible to remove a card of the “wrong” format from there.

There is nothing remarkable on the outer rear surface of the device, except for the camera window and LED flash, even the speaker grilles are not brought back here, but sideways - they are cut in the bottom end. The speakers here are taken away by beautiful symmetrical metallized grilles - it looks very stylish.

Here, between the speaker grilles, there is a Micro-USB connector and a spoken microphone. Micro-USB, unfortunately, does not support connection modes external devices, such as a flash drive or a keyboard and mouse. It's a pity: with such a large screen size, they could come in handy.

The top end also has more different elements than usual. In addition to the traditional headphone jack (3.5mm) and a second microphone for noise reduction, you can find a small peephole here infrared port. The infrared port is primarily used for the physical implementation of a program that emulates a remote control.

The "remote" is universal, its memory already has a lot of different configurations, so it easily managed to control a ten-year-old Philips TV, not to mention more modern solutions. The program is convenient, works flawlessly, we have already met similar solutions earlier and in Samsung smartphones, and LG itself.

Also, a hole for installing a stylus is cut in the upper end - a complete electronic pen this time is an integral part of the image and has found its place inside the smartphone case. The pen is metal, slippery, absolutely round in cross section, it is not equipped with any additional buttons. This is not at all an analogue of the high-tech stylus on the Samsung Galaxy Note with its spring-loaded tip, side key and the implementation of interaction with the screen using Wacom technologies. In terms of functionality, both the implementation of working with a pen and the corresponding applications focused on working with a stylus fall short of it.

Buttons, both mechanical and touch, are also more than usual. First, on one of the side faces (left) there is additional key Quick Button, which serves to quickly launch any application assigned by the user. Such an expansion of functionality never hurts, and it's good that this button is often found in LG smartphones. All side buttons have a very soft and pliable stroke, but practically do not stick out of the case, although it is not difficult to find them blindly.

Secondly, on the front panel under the screen there are not three, as usual, but four buttons, the last of which is responsible for instantly reassigning the SIM card as a priority. The problem is that this button, like the others, does not have a backlight (we have already encountered such a problem in the LG Optimus L7 II Dual smartphone).

And just like there, here it is impossible to decide on the buttons in the twilight, so you have to poke blindly - but this is not the worst. Worse, by accidentally pressing this button in the dark (and not noticing it), you can inadvertently make a call to someone from the wrong SIM card with which you wanted, and possibly reveal your other number to the one from whom he kept in secret. Obviously, realizing the absurdity of this situation, the developers, instead of simply providing the buttons with a backlight, went the other way. They introduced an item in the settings where you can hardcode calls to certain numbers only from certain SIM-cards, and nothing else.

The rest of the front panel is nothing more remarkable. The entire front surface is covered with a protective glass, a slot is cut out in it for the earpiece grille, and the eyes of the front camera and touch sensors are visible nearby. It is worth noting right away that by tapping on the glass here you can both wake up a sleeping smartphone and put it back to sleep. This signature LG feature, which first appeared in the G2, is still unique, and no one else has it. Nokia once came up with the idea of waking up the device by tapping on the screen, but not putting it back to sleep.

About colors: the LG G Pro Lite Dual model, like most LG smartphones, does not shine with a variety of colors. On sale there are only two options: black and white. In Korean devices, unlike others, the front panel is painted in the same tone with the back cover, so here the white device has a white front panel under the glass.

Screen

The LG G Pro Lite Dual is equipped with a 68 x 121 mm IPS touch matrix with a diagonal of 139 mm (5.5 inches) with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The density of pixels per inch is only 200 ppi here, which is frankly low for modern screens, and you will not find this in any of the competing solutions. Accordingly, the picture is quite loose, the pixels are visible to the naked eye, the edges of small details and fonts do not always look smooth.

The thickness of the side frames from the edge of the screen to the edge of the case is about 4 mm. The screen is covered with a protective glass that is resistant to scratches. The display brightness can be adjusted manually, but you cannot turn on automatic adjustment yourself - there is simply no corresponding checkmark here. Multi-touch technology allows you to process up to 10 simultaneous touches. The smartphone also has a proximity sensor that blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear.

Detailed examination using measuring instruments held by the editor of the sections "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, there is an effective anti-glare filter, which, in terms of brightness reduction, is slightly worse than that of the Google Nexus 7 2013 (further we compare it with it). Reflection in the screen is tripled, which suggests the presence of an air gap between the surface of the matrix and the outer glass. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (very effective, no worse than Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed much easier, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control, its maximum value was about 390 cd / m², and the minimum - 46 cd / m². The maximum value is not very high, but given the good anti-reflective properties, in bright daylight, the image on the screen should be fairly well distinguishable. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. There is no automatic brightness control by light sensor. At any level of brightness, there is virtually no backlight modulation, so no flickering of the screen can be visually detected.

IN this smartphone installed matrix type IPS. The micrograph shows a typical IPS sub-pixel structure:

The screen has good viewing angles without color inversion and without significant color shift even at large (reasonable) deviations of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen. The black field, when deviated diagonally, is strongly highlighted, but remains almost neutral gray. When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good. The contrast in the center of the screen is high - about 1140:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 24 ms (12 ms on + 12 ms off). The transition between 25% and 75% grayscale (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 37 ms. The gamma curve constructed from 32 points did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows, and the approximating exponential function turned out to be 2.04, which is less than the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve strongly deviates from the power dependence and has a pronounced S-shaped character, which increases the apparent contrast of the image:

The color gamut is almost equal to sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix light filters moderately mix the components to each other - as a result, visually the colors have a natural saturation.

The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is not much higher than the standard 6500 K and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (delta E) is less than 10, which is considered acceptable for a consumer device. At the same time, the variation in delta E and color temperature is small, which also has a positive effect on the visual perception of color balance. (The dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

The brightness adjustment range of this screen is quite wide, and the anti-glare filter is very effective, which allows you to comfortably use your smartphone both on a clear day outside and in complete darkness. Unfortunately, there is no automatic brightness adjustment, which imposes additional responsibilities on the user and does not help save battery power. The advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, uniform black field and good color reproduction. Unfortunately, the stability of black to the deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen surface is not high. As a result, we have inexpensive option screen on an IPS matrix, in which they tried to reduce the cost without a very big loss in quality.

Sound

In terms of sound, the smartphone is average. The speakers emit a fairly clear and very loud sound, but are deprived of low frequencies. The voice of a familiar interlocutor, timbre and intonation remain recognizable, the conversation is quite comfortable. The sound outlet grilles are cut into the bottom end, so that nothing prevents the sound from escaping. In the settings, it is possible to programmatically enhance some audio effects, but this can only be done when headphones are connected. The smartphone is pre-installed with a regular voice recorder, which serves only to create sound notes - record using regular means telephone conversations from the line he can not. FM-radio in the smartphone is also available, it is possible to record broadcasts from the air.

Camera

LG G Pro Lite Dual is equipped with two modules as standard digital cameras. The front camera here has a 1.3 megapixel sensor, it takes photos with a maximum resolution of 1280 × 720, the video can shoot at a maximum resolution of 720p.

The main, rear camera is equipped with an 8-megapixel module with a BSI sensor. By default, the camera shoots in normal mode, in which the resolution is set to 6 megapixels for shooting with a wide aspect ratio. The maximum resolution (8 megapixels) should be switched manually, then the pictures are obtained with a size of 3264 × 2448. It is possible to use other shooting modes besides the usual one: panorama, burst, Beautiful face, sport, night. The settings menu is extremely conveniently placed across the screen, clearly and brightly drawn, all items are easy and intuitive to find - the implementation of the menu is one of the best on the market.

Sample photos with our comments are presented below.

In the foreground, the details are worked out poorly, to the distant, the sharpness drops even more.

In this case, the camera did a good job in the central part of the frame, the edges are noticeably worse.

In the central part of the frame, sharpness is acceptable, but gradually deteriorates towards the edges.

There is a strong sharpening on the wires and colored noise on the pavement.

The grass worked out well only in the center, but even there it merges in places.

With good lighting and a fairly short shutter speed (1/529 seconds), the camera can produce an almost decent result, but the sharpness that is uneven across the frame spoils everything.

With a very short shutter speed (1/1122 second) the result is even better: the house is worked out well, traces of sharping are almost invisible, the number of the nearest car is clearly distinguishable.

In the shadows, slight noises are noticeable.

The text is blurry due to the relatively slow shutter speed (1/25 second), but is still legible, although slightly damaged.

There is nothing outstanding in macro photography.

The camera has problems either with the perception of reality, or with recording data in EXIF. Long exposure for it is even 1/100 of a second, although in the above shots the camera never reached at least ISO 200, trying to shoot around ISO 60. This is the reason for some blur in most shots. On the other hand, blur can be caused by the lack of any stabilization or the delay between pressing the shutter button and shooting.

Sharpness is relatively good only in the central part of the frame in the foreground and sometimes in the middle ground. The edges of the frame are worked out poorly, and there are a lot of chaotic unsharp areas around the central part, which indicates the low quality of the optics.

Weak noises in the shadows indicate that the camera has noise reduction, which does its job quite well. He does not manage to completely hide the noise, but the result obtained is quite good.

As for shooting text, it should be done the old fashioned way in good lighting, if possible with a flash to avoid blurring. In general, the camera occupies a rather low position among other smartphone cameras and is only suitable for undemanding documentary shooting.

The camera is very good at shooting video, does it without visible delays or artifacts in the image, there are several resolutions to choose from (up to a maximum of 720p). Sample test clips are shown below (video: MPEG4 Video 1280×720 30.083 fps 8066 kbps; audio: AAC 16 kHz mono 19 kbps).

  • Movie #1 (31.6 MB, 1280x720)
  • Movie #2 (23.2 MB, 1280x720)
  • Movie #3 (27.2 MB, 1280×720)

Telephone part and communications

The smartphone normally works in modern networks 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA; support for fourth generation networks (LTE) is not. In general, the network capabilities of a smartphone today are minimal: the 5 GHz Wi-Fi range is not supported, and there is no support for NFC technology either. As a standard, you can organize a wireless point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels, there is a Wi-Fi Direct mode. The navigation module supports GPS/A-GPS. There were no freezes or spontaneous reboots / shutdowns of the device during testing.

The screen is large, so the drawing of letters and numbers on virtual keyboards is quite comfortable to control. In the settings, you can select two types of home screens: normal and simplified. A simplified version will most likely be of interest to people who are not familiar with smartphones, as well as the elderly. A fairly convenient option: all the most necessary functions in the form of large-scale icons are immediately displayed on the desktop.

The layout and layout of the keys are standard: switching languages is carried out by pressing a special button, there is a separate row of numbers. Since the screen, due to its size, is not very convenient for one-handed operation, it is possible to shift the keys to one of the edges of the screen for easy finger reach. It is possible to carry out such a shift without even resorting to the menu: it is enough to shift the keyboard to one of the sides with a side swing.

The smartphone provides work with 2 SIM-cards. Apart from a special button for quickly changing the priority SIM-card, the implementation of working with two SIM-cards is generally standard for this platform. There is only one radio module here, so there can only be one active conversation, the second card becomes unavailable at this moment. In the settings, you can choose a color theme for each of the cards, icon design, prioritize, etc.

OS and software

LG G Pro Lite Dual works in this moment on the Google Android software platform version 4.1.2. On top of the standard OS interface, the company installed a custom-made graphical shell called Optimus UI version 3.0. The shell here is exactly the same as most of the previously tested LG smartphones. The smartphone can be unlocked by touching anywhere on the screen, which is much more convenient than sliding a certain strip at the bottom, especially when controlled with the fingers of one hand. The application menu consists of several cyclically scrolling screens, each of which is a matrix of 5x6 application icons. At the top above the matrix there is a button to display only downloaded applications, which is convenient. By pressing the "gear" you can go to the ordering of icons on the screens. The notification panel is very informative, and besides, the top scrolling ribbon of quick access to especially important settings can be edited to suit your needs. You can reboot the system or enable offline mode by long pressing the power key - a special menu with options appears. If you hold this key even longer, the phone will reboot automatically.

Many software developments familiar from other LG smartphones are also present here: QSlide - the ability to adjust the size, degree of transparency and the number of simultaneously used program windows; guest mode - the ability to restrict access to certain applications; QuickMemo is a program for working with a stylus, mainly dedicated to taking notes and drawing; QuickTranslator - a translator with the ability free installation one dictionary; QuickRemote is a virtual remote control connected to the built-in infrared port. Also traditionally on site and own program for Reserve copy and system recovery, office suite, application manager, task manager, file manager, and online entertainment services of choice multimedia content, the ability to store your “household” in the LG cloud, and even remote support for the device by a service call center.

Performance

The hardware platform of the LG G Pro Lite Dual is based on the single-chip system (SoC) MediaTek MT6577. The CPU here has 2 Cortex-A9 cores running at 1GHz. It is assisted in graphics processing by the PowerVR SGX 531 video processor. The device has 1 GB of RAM, nominally 8 GB of internal memory, and of these, about 4.7 GB of free space in reality, the rest is occupied by the system itself and installed applications. The LG G Pro Lite Dual smartphone supports memory expansion using microSD cards (our SanDisk Ultra MicroSD XC I 64 GB test card was confidently recognized, this is shown in the screenshots). But the possibilities of connecting external devices to USB port Here again, no.

To get an idea of the platform performance of the tested smartphone, let's run a standard set of tests.

For convenience, we have summarized all the results obtained by us when testing a smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks in tables. Several other devices from different segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within a single comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” - due to the fact that they once passed their “obstacle courses” on previous versions test programs.

According to the results of the data obtained during the testing, the LG G Pro Lite Dual system demonstrated very low performance by today's standards.

Test results in MobileXPRT, as well as the latest versions of AnTuTu 4.x and GeekBench 3

The results of testing the graphics subsystem in the game test Epic Citadel

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them depend significantly on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can only be truly correct on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always.

Video playback

To test the "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, don't expect mobile device decoding of everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a single table.

Format container, video, sound MX Video Player Regular video player
DVDRip AVI, XviD 720×400 2200 Kbps, MP3+AC3 plays normally plays normally
Web-DL SD AVI, XviD 720×400 1400 Kbps, MP3+AC3 plays normally plays normally

¹ Audio in MX Video Player only played after switching to software decoding or Hardware+; The regular player does not have such a setting.

We did not find an MHL interface or a separate video output in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. Using a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see Method for testing video playback and display devices. Version 1), we checked the quality of video output on a smartphone screen. Screen shots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped determine the nature of the output frames of video files with various parameters: Frame rate varied (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps) at the same resolution of 1280 by 720 (720p) pixels - the screen resolution is even lower, so there is no point in trying to watch 1080p files, etc. In tests, we used the MX video player Player in "Hardware" mode, the results are summarized in the table:

Note: if both columns "Uniformity" and "Gap" are set to "green", this means that when watching movies, most likely, either artifacts caused by uneven interleaving and dropping frames will not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect viewing comfort. "Red" marks indicate possible problems associated with the playback of the respective files.

If we restrict ourselves to 24 fps and resolutions up to and including 720p, typical for movies and TV shows, then you can watch videos on this device. Frame rates above 30 start skipping, and 1080p is played only in software decoding mode, which depressingly affects the quality of the output and battery life. Along the way, we noticed a strange effect: sometimes the image of our test files crumbled into squares in places. When playing video files with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (720p), the image of the video file itself is practically inscribed in the screen boundaries - only a couple of pixels go beyond the display area. The brightness range displayed on the screen slightly does not correspond to the standard range (that is, the range 16-235): in the shadows, all gradations of shades are distinguished, but in the highlights, a couple of shades are indistinguishable in brightness from white.

Battery Life

The capacity of the lithium-ion battery installed in the LG G Pro Lite Dual is a considerable value of 3140 mAh even by modern standards. Accordingly, the results of testing the duration battery life devices in the most common user scenarios turned out to be quite good.

Battery capacity Reading mode Video mode 3D game mode
LG G Pro Lite Dual 3140 mAh 14h 15m 8h 40m 6:50 a.m.

Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd / m²) lasted more than 14 hours until the battery was completely discharged, and when continuously watching YouTube videos in high quality (HQ) with the same brightness level home network Wi-Fi device lasted about 8.5 hours. In the 3D gaming mode, the battery of the smartphone lasted almost 7 hours.

Outcome

At the moment, the official cost of LG G Pro Lite Dual is set in our market within 12.5 thousand rubles. For the same money, you can buy a competing model of no less sonorous brand - Sony Xperia C with a more productive quad-core platform. If you do not pay attention to brands, now for such an amount you can buy devices that are much more advanced in all technical characteristics, for example, the flagship five-inch Alcatel OT Idol X or Fly Luminor IQ453 that we recently tested. In them, for the same 12 thousand rubles, the user will receive not only more powerful and productive SoCs, but also much better screens with Full HD resolution.

pros:

  • dual SIM support
  • memory card support
  • removable battery
  • good battery life
  • large screen size

Minuses:

  • glossy body
  • poor performance
  • low display resolution
  • high price

Design and ergonomics

Looking at the smartphone from the front, with a high degree of probability, you can determine the manufacturer, even if you do not look at the logo under the earpiece. Corporate features contribute to recognition: a black edging around the display, the location of the earpiece and the presence of a separate key for changing the priority of SIM cards.

It is not possible to find out who is the manufacturer of the protective glass. LG is modestly silent about this, and on the Corning website a long time ago they stopped updating the list of devices using their glasses. But what can be said for sure is that the surface of the glass is covered with an oleophobic layer that helps to avoid fingerprints and improves their sliding. At the top edge is a metal mesh speaker, to the right of it is a proximity sensor and a camera. Under the speaker, you can see the manufacturer's logo, and under the display, from left to right, the touch keys: "Back", "Home", "Menu" and "Change SIM Priority". The keys are not backlit, so working with a smartphone in the dark is problematic, you can only hit the desired key at random.

The frame encircling the front side does not protrude above the glass. Its front part is stylized as metal, while the sides are painted white with mother-of-pearl splashes. Looks attractive. Surely, such a decision will make minor scuffs less noticeable. On the other hand, if you draw a parallel with the LG Optimus G, any serious contact with a hard object will leave a noticeable dent on the frame.

The back and front sides are separated by a silver insert of different widths. On the sidewalls, it turns into a thin strip, while at the ends it occupies about half of the entire area. It is on the silver insert that there are holes for a headphone jack, a microphone and an IR transmitter (upper end), Micro-USB, a microphone and two speakers (lower end). In addition to connectors and holes on the upper end, near the right sidewall, there is a stylus, when it is removed, the screen backlight turns on. Unlike the LG Optimus G and LG G2, the G Pro Lite Dual has two speakers. We will talk about their quality later.

On the sides of the case there are four mechanical keys and a recess for removing the back cover. Three of the keys are installed on the left side face, under a silvery stripe. These are the Quick Button keys (it can be assigned to launch any of the installed applications) and a dual volume button. In sleep mode, the keys do not work. The fourth key - power / lock, is installed on the opposite side. Its location is optimal, not too high and not in the center, not to mention the fact that it could be on the top end, as in HTC smartphones. All keys practically do not protrude above the surface of the case, which, nevertheless, does not prevent them from being blindly found, due to moderately sharp edges. The key travel is short, with a noticeable click when actuated.

The back of the case received a texture pattern. Fingerprints are only visible at certain angles. Surely in a black case, they will be more clearly visible.

In addition to the texture pattern, this part of the body attracts attention with the presence of a flash, a camera lens and a logo. A 3140 mAh battery (as in LG Optimus G Pro) and three slots are hidden under the cover: for SIM cards and a memory card. To access any of them, you do not need to remove the battery, so you can change the SIM or memory card on the fly.

The build quality is good, squeaks appear only with strong pressure, otherwise the LG G Pro Lite Dual is up to par, including the location of the controls. The picture is slightly spoiled by the lack of backlighting of the keys and the incomprehensible savings of the manufacturer on the light sensor.

Operating system and shell

The main advantage of a smartphone over a huge number of branded "Chinese" is branded shell Optimus UI 3.0. Here the smartphone really stands one step above classmates. As operating system no longer current Android 4.1 is used. Considering LG's unwillingness to update firmware in its products, there is no need to wait for the appearance of Android 4.2, not to mention more recent versions. Despite this, the majority of users do not need it, the interface works smoothly, and the control panel is customizable.

Since the Optimus UI 3.0 shell is not the first time we have encountered it, we traditionally invite readers to familiarize themselves with its features in the review and where we spoke in detail about the interface of LG smartphones. Here we list only the differences.

In view of the larger display, five shortcuts are placed on the lock screen for quickly launching applications, an additional widget has appeared indicating the time and weather, but the animation has been removed when unlocking. Like the LG Optimus G Pro, the smartphone uses its own keyboard on which there was no place for the symbols "." And ",". Their place is occupied by the letters "U" and "X". In view of this, typing text in the Cyrillic layout is extremely inconvenient.

Among the applications and features of the LG G Pro Lite Dual, we highlight the following:

— « simple desktop"- a smartphone operating mode in which large dial keys, a weather widget and eight shortcuts to selected applications are displayed on the main and only desktop window. In this mode, the font is made as large as possible, which will be useful for people with poor eyesight.

- function " Knock Knock» - Exit sleep mode by double tapping on the screen. Using a similar gesture while the screen is on causes the screen to fade out;

Quick Button(quick access key, on the left side of the case) - a key that can be used to launch any of the applications available on the smartphone. Works only when the screen is unlocked;

Quick Translator is an online text translator that uses a camera as a scanner. The test can be translated both in small phrases and whole paragraphs. As a bonus, the manufacturer offers to download one dictionary for free and use it without access to the Internet. The application recognizes 44 languages and is able to translate them into 64 languages;

Safety Care- emergency application. When dialing 911, the smartphone automatically sends a text message to the previously set number. If the device is not being used certain time(set in the settings), a corresponding text message is sent to the programmed number. The third function of the application is sending GPS coordinates on request;

— « Guest mode"- an application that provides access to a given category of programs. It can be used for cases when the smartphone owner wants to block access to some applications, including the ability to make calls and send messages;

QSlide Applications- a set of a small number of programs that can be run on top of other windows. In total, three programs can be launched: the main one and two QSlides.

The principle of operation of two SIM-cards is similar to other Android-smartphones. In standby mode, both SIMs are available, but when talking on one of them, the second one is out of range. Another advantage of LG Dual SIM smartphones is the ease of working with SIM cards. To specify from which card you want to make a call or send a message, just press special key. In addition, the user can assign a default SIM with which this or that action will be performed, in particular, the smartphone recommends which SIM is better just call one or another subscriber.

Hardware platform

The smartphone is based on a hardware platform MediaTek MT6577 is a system-on-a-chip manufactured using a 40-nm process technology, including two 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor cores, a PowerVR SGX531 graphics accelerator and 1 GB of RAM. The amount of internal memory is 8 GB, of which about half is available when connected to a PC. Similar SoCs could be seen in last year's smartphones - this is another savings that is puzzling, at least because the current MediaTek solutions are manufactured using a 28nm process technology and have a much better energy efficiency / performance ratio. Given the huge battery, this could increase the autonomy of the LG G Pro Lite Dual by 25-30%, making it an excellent alternative to the long-playing Lenovo Ideaphone P780.

In terms of performance, LG G Pro Lite Dual shows poor results, the number of cores and an outdated graphics accelerator affect. The screen resolution, 960x540 pixels, somewhat softens the situation. If the SoC had to process an image at 1280x720 pixels, this would definitely lead to a drop in performance and smooth animation. As a result, on the one hand, the capabilities of the MT6577 may not seem enough for demanding users, but for those who do not plan to play heavy games and watch Full HD video, the main thing is that the smartphone does not “slow down” and works for a long time, LG G Pro Lite Dual will be quite enough.

The smartphone copes with HD video playback without difficulty, but to run Full HD video, you will have to use third party applications. It's funny that even relatively budget model, capable of playing audio in an AC3 container. In our memory, this is the first MTK device that can play AC3 sound using regular means, in this case, a video player. Like its older brothers, being one of the QSlide applications, the video player can work in windowed mode. In addition, you can set your own brightness in the player settings. The sound volume in the headphones is sufficient for office premises, but when viewed in a noisy environment, it may not be enough. The sound volume in the speakers is high, the sound quality is on top, but up to the reference smartphone for this parameter HTC One doesn't hold up. The advantage of LG's solution is the separation of the speakers: one is used to reproduce high frequencies, and the second for low frequencies.

Satellite acquisition speed is not typical for the hardware platform used. According to this parameter, the smartphone is similar to models based on Qualcomm processors. The speed of data exchange in the Wi-Fi network is low, but it is quite enough for any possible tasks. The volume and sound quality of the earpiece is good.

The autonomy of the smartphone is commendable. This is evidenced by the results, both in normal use and in testing. With half an hour of calls, two hours of music, half an hour of navigation, automatic synchronization of two Google accounts over Wi-Fi, the user can count on three days of work. In the Antutu Tester application, the smartphone scored 814 points.

In two-hour tests LG G Pro Lite Dual showed itself as follows.

All disabled in read mode wireless communications, including data transfer to mobile network, and the display brightness is set to 50%. When listening to music, automatic data synchronization and data transfer worked. Headphone volume at 12 out of 15 possible levels. All music files in MP3 format, bitrate 320 Kbps. Navigation includes plotting a route in google app Navigation. The brightness is set to 50%, all communication communication modules are disabled. When playing a video, data transmission is active in the mobile network, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at level 12 out of a possible 15. Video file format MKV, resolution 1024x432 pixels, frame rate 24. Playing videos from Youtube was accompanied not only by work in WiFi networks, but also active data transfer. The display brightness is set to 50%, the headphone volume is set to 12 out of 15 possible levels.

Display

The smartphone is not in vain called LG G Pro Lite Dual, because the screen diagonal is exactly the same as that (the Optimus prefix is no longer used in LG smartphones) - 5.5 inches, only the resolution is slightly different. However, so is the price. In terms of quality, the IPS matrix used was rated by us as a four. Brightness values range from 40 cd/m² to 350 cd/m², 50% corresponds to 92 cd/m². The minimum value, coupled with the size of the matrix, makes reading something on a white background a very tedious process. Without installing additional software (for example, Lux Lite), which reduces the brightness of the backlight, it is simply impossible to read at night. On a sunny day, the display does not fade, the information is clearly visible from almost any angle. You can only adjust the brightness manually.

Checking the factory calibration of the IPS matrix revealed the following features: slightly oversaturated colors; overestimated contrast in dark areas of the image and insufficient in bright colors; as well as close to the ideal value of the white balance. In general, as already mentioned, the display shows quite decent performance. In fairness, we note that in everyday use, a low resolution is practically not striking, at least from a distance of 40 centimeters, the staggering of fonts is barely noticeable, but if you just look at the screen with a higher PPI value, the LG G Pro Lite Dual has 200 PPI, as you immediately notice the lack of image sharpness in the LG smartphone. All this means only one thing, the display cannot be called bad, but if you compare it with models in the same price range, the win will not be on the side of LG.

cameras

The LG G Pro Lite Dual has two cameras: 8 MP main and 1 MP front. Both are capable of recording video at a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The main camera has autofocus and flash. Supports focusing by touching the screen, as well as selecting the ISO100-400 value, shooting by voice command and volume keys. The quality of the photos is average, closer to good, the night shots are especially successful. With video, the situation is comparable, with the only difference that when the lighting deteriorates, the quality of the video decreases, in particular, the frame rate drops. There are no complaints about the work of the front camera, it is quite suitable for self-portraits and communication.

Results

A few months ago, LG introduced its most advanced big smartphone– LG Optimus G Pro, it combines a modern hardware platform, up-to-date android version(at that time), a good camera, Full HD-screen and capacious battery. The new LG G Pro Lite Dual also has a 5.5-inch screen, it also has relatively compact dimensions, it has an infrared port, a battery similar in capacity, and a lot of software chips. Screen resolution, cameras, and hardware platform were sacrificed. Given the difference in price, the user is offered to choose between the better equipped, but also more expensive LG Optimus G Pro, and the affordable, but less advanced LG G Pro Lite Dual. Well, as a bonus, the user receives a loud and high-quality sound from stereo speakers, two slots for SIM cards and a stylus.

Hi all! And so we again return to the reviews of mobile technology. Today in the review is a smartphone from the company "LG" called "LG E988 Optimus G Pro". This smartphone can already be considered with confidence the last flagship of the company, since another flagship "LG G2" has already taken its place on the shelves. Life cycle"LG E988 Optimus G Pro" turned out to be quite short, but nevertheless it remains a fairly advanced smartphone and it's hard to call it outdated somehow, especially since there is something to tell about it.

Packing, equipment.

The smartphone comes in a rectangular cardboard box. The overall style and packaging design are made in Hi-Tech style. The bottom of the box is made completely in black, and on the back there is a brief Technical information. The top of the box has the appearance of a silvery metal mesh. This design looks very stylish and elegant. By the way, our smartphone is completely made in South Korea which is quite rare these days.

Equipment.

Let's see what's in the box.

1. Actually the smartphone itself.

2. Rechargeable battery.

3. Charger.

4. USB cable.

5. Documentation.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is such a meager and incomprehensible equipment, but this was once the flagship of the company. Imaginary savings even on the simplest headset. A strange approach in the company about the care of our wallets. But in their homeland, Koreans have a completely different set of supplies. Second accumulator battery, a docking station for charging the phone and the battery itself, quite quality headset. As they say, the difference is in the face!

Appearance, design.

LG E988 Optimus G Pro is a classic monoblock. General form smartphone turned out to be quite successful. The reviewed smartphone has a white coloring and this is the rare case when the white color suits both the female and the male sex, it kind of turned out to be such a unisex. The corners are traditionally round. It's almost 10mm thick. Of course, you can’t call a smartphone thin, but it doesn’t seem thick either, you can say a kind of golden mean. Immediately striking is the vertically elongated screen and very narrow frames (about 2mm) at the edges of the screen, at the moment this is one of the smallest indicators on the market, of course, these are indicators for the better. Thanks to these two details, the screen occupies almost the entire front part and, most positively, the smartphone does not feel like a shovel in the hands. You get used to its size as soon as you take it out of the box and take it for granted. And perhaps the most significant moment in the entire design and design of the smartphone is the ability to comfortably work with one hand.

For example, in Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the screen is only 0.05 inches larger and it is almost impossible to work on it with one hand, and our hero gives such an opportunity, which is undoubtedly a very big plus. Smartphone weight 176g. this figure is slightly above average and is a fairly comfortable value so that the smartphone does not feel heavy. The design of the LG E988 Optimus G Pro is definitely a success, the company has found almost ideal proportions for comfortable work with this device.

It just so happened that Korean smartphone manufacturers (LG, Samsung) use only plastic in the construction of their flagships. We will not go into the reasons for this trend. There is no metal in the construction. Naturally, our test subject is completely made of plastic. Only the edging of the main camera is made of metal. As I said above, the color is white and the texture of the plastic is glossy, which creates a risk of dropping the smartphone from your hands, since the surface is rather slippery. Back cover has a pattern in the form of a tiled mosaic of white and gray small squares, and this decision looks pretty original. It is noteworthy that in the previous model, namely the LG E975 Optimus G back panel was covered with a glass base, but for some reason this was dropped from the E988. A gray plastic insert runs along the entire perimeter of the smartphone, which visually divides the smartphone into two parts. When approaching the upper and lower ends, the insert expands and already occupies almost the entire visible area.

I have absolutely no complaints about the build quality. Everything is assembled and made to a very high standard. Naturally, there are no extraneous sounds for twisting and breaking. The back cover, if you press on it, does not squeeze through. Control buttons do not play. The workmanship is excellent, which actually befits the level of a top-end smartphone.

functional connectors.

Now let's move on to the controls.

1. At the top end there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, an infrared transmitter, a microphone for noise suppression.

2. On the right side is the power button, and at the bottom there is a recess for removing the back cover.

3. On the bottom end there is a microUSB connector and the main microphone.

4. On the left side there is a volume control key and a function button (I will talk about it below in the text).

5. On the front side of the smartphone: main speaker, front camera, proximity sensor, auto brightness sensor, "LG" logo. Under the screen is a physical button "home" and two touch control buttons "context menu" and "back".

6. On the back you can see: the main camera, flash, second speaker and the "LG" logo. Under the cover is a built-in NFC chip.

As you can see, the manufacturer in the design involved all aspects of the smartphone.

functional elements.

The smartphone is running Android OS 4.1.2.

According to rumors, it seems like the smartphone will be updated to 4.3 for sure, but apparently you can’t count on further updates. In general, considering LG's slowness in releasing new firmware, version 4.3 will already be good. The main menu is built according to the 5x6 formula, these are two desktops with installed applications and eight desktops with widgets.

Navigation and surfing on the smartphone is very smooth and fast, the sensor response is simply fantastic, it seems that you just put your finger on the screen and the reaction has already occurred. In general, excellent speed, no hint of lags or brakes.

Optimus UI 3.0. This is LG's own shell. The shell itself is very advanced and functional, almost all aspects of the smartphone have been changed.

Here are some points worth mentioning:

1. Completely redesigned smartphone unlocking. You can choose different effects that will be present when you unlock your smartphone.

2. You can put different wallpapers on the home screen and on the screen with the main menu. You can also change the size of the icons themselves.

3. You can choose one of four themes. And when you change the topic, it changes appearance widgets and icons.

4. Auto screen rotation now works on the main screen and in the application menu.

5. The main color in the menu is now white with multi-colored labels. The activation buttons in the form of switches are very original. All functions in the smartphone have also been redrawn, starting from dialing, voice recorder, calendar, alarm clock, etc. The standard wallpapers have been completely replaced with wallpapers from LG, there are branded live wallpapers. Moreover, all the pictures are very well chosen and all look equally good on the smartphone screen.

6. The menu with applications is divided into three zones, the actual "applications", "downloads" (all downloaded programs are displayed separately) and "widgets".

7. Now incoming SMS are immediately displayed on the screen as a pop-up window.

8. All third-party applications in the firmware can be deleted.

9. When playing a video file, you can zoom in on the picture.

Here are just those not many moments that are in this shell.

Illuminated front keys. The backlight of the touch buttons can be turned off and the duration of the backlight itself can be set.

LED illumination of the Home screen button. Extensive mechanical button settings. You can choose the brightness and set a certain algorithm of work. A kind of indicator of various events.

Quick button. On the right side in the upper part there is a mechanical button to which you can assign any application from your smartphone ( quick launch). But it is most convenient to use it as a camera button (you cannot activate the camera when the smartphone is locked, activation only when the smartphone is active and you can use the button as a shutter release) or the activation button of the remote control.

Quick remote. The smartphone has a built-in infrared transmitter. Actually the main purpose is the remote control.

Screen. The LG Optimus G Pro has a very high-quality screen with an IPS matrix. The company gave this screen a rather loud name "True HD IPS +". Diagonal 5.5 inches, Full HD resolution, 1920 × 1080 pixels. The density of pixels per inch is 401ppi. Up to 10 touches are supported simultaneously.

There is an automatic brightness control. Fans of looking at individual pixels on the screen can immediately pass by.

There is a protective coating Сorning Gorilla Glass 2. Viewing angles are maximum, the picture can be seen from any position.

Also good contrast and a large margin of brightness. Color reproduction can be said to be perfect, I personally did not notice any obvious color distortions. In the sun, the screen proved to be very good, the image is visible even in direct sunlight.

On this type of screen, you can comfortably work with gloves, and the screen is also sensitive to the touch of any metal objects. As a result, we have one of the best screens on the market that has practically no obvious flaws that could be seen with the naked eye.

Camera. The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels, the maximum image size is 4160 × 3120 pixels. Naturally, there is autofocus. This smartphone uses a matrix from Sony with LED flash. Maximum quality Video recording is FullHD at 30fps. By default, the camera is set to "smart-auto mode". Basically in automatic mode The camera does a pretty good job of identifying different shooting modes. The speed of the camera itself is very high, pictures are taken and saved instantly. From the main settings, the following points can be distinguished: image resolution, normal shooting, HDR, panorama, VR panorama (3D panoramic shot), burst shooting, beautiful face, dual camera (you can shoot video and take photos from two cameras at the same time), Cheese option Shutter (You can take a picture with your voice), Brightness Adjustment, Focus (Auto, Manual, Face Tracking), Scene Programs (Normal, Portrait, Landscape, Sports, Sunset, Night), ISO (Auto, 800, 400, 200, 100 ), white balance (auto, incandescent, sunny, fluorescent, cloudy), color effects (none, black and white, sepia, negative), timer (off, 3, 5, 10 sec.), geotagging, shutter sound ( can be disabled), select the storage location (memory card or device memory). The quality of the pictures themselves is just as impressive. Good sharpness in the frame, reliable color reproduction. Naturally, in low light, there is a little noise in the frame. The front camera has a resolution of 2.1 megapixels, autofocus is no longer available, but video recording in FullHD is also possible. The settings are mostly similar to the main camera, you can’t just take a picture with your voice. In Skype, this camera showed its best side, the issued picture is of good quality, if, of course, judging by the screen size. As a result, we get a fairly high-quality camera that may well fit in the role of an inexpensive soap dish.

Video example:

In work, testing.

CPU. 4 CPU cores based on the new "Krait 300" architecture. Frequency up to 1.9GHz. Integrated video processor - Adreno 320. New generation DSP - Hexagon V5. IZat technology responsible for positioning functions. IZat is a combination of satellite navigation systems - GPS and GLONASS - with positioning via Wi-Fi points, base stations mobile operators, as well as the use of data from the Internet. Those. chip manufacturing process - 28nm "HPm" ("High Performance for mobile"). Dual-channel memory controller (2 x 32 bit) LP-DDR3 800MHz, thanks to which the memory bus bandwidth reaches a record 12.8Gb / s. Built-in 3rd generation 4G LTE capable of speeds up to 150Mbps (Category 4). All common standards and frequencies are supported, making the communication module universal. DSP capability to handle UltraHD (4 x 1080p) shooting and playback. Support for audio formats DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus.

Of course, this bundle is not the most productive at the end of 2013. The most-most so to speak at the moment is the Snapdragon 800 and Adreno 330, at least on Android devices. But do not forget that this smartphone went on sale around the world in April 2013, and in our country sales actually began only at the beginning of autumn. There was such a big delay. So, it can be considered given processor modern and highly productive. All tested modern 3D games, as they say, "fly" on this bundle. In all games, the maximum values \u200b\u200bof the graphics were set and there were no lags or brakes anywhere. It is safe to say that this processor will be relevant in terms of games for quite a long time.

Memory. The total amount of memory in the smartphone is 16GB. After downloading, 9.4GB remains. The RAM is 2 GB, after loading 1.1 GB remains, which is pretty good. You cannot install applications on a memory card. Supports work with memory cards format microSDXC.

Synthetic test charts:

Sound. The sound from the speakers is above average in volume. Somehow it is impossible to single out the sound from the speakers in terms of quality. There is not enough volume and there is a lack of bass. The usual sound is unremarkable. For example, after you listen to the sound in Oppo Find 5 (which, by the way, I personally consider to be the standard in terms of sound), you already begin to be biased towards everyone else in terms of sound. Since there was no native headset in the kit, I did not check the sound in the headphones, most likely the sound will depend on specific headphones, and this will already be a biased result.

Speech transmission. The smartphone has two microphones and one of them is responsible for noise suppression during a conversation. There were no problems with the quality of communication during testing. You can hear the interlocutor very well in both directions. Unfortunately, it was not possible to test the smartphone in LTE networks due to the banal lack of the required SIM card.

WiFi, GPS. The work of the Wi-Fi module is high-quality and stable. Nothing special can be added to this item. The smartphone uses two standards GPS navigation and GLONASS they work simultaneously. Thanks to this, about 20 satellites are always available and this is so far the highest result of all smartphones I have tested. Positioning is very accurate, it takes only 1-3 minutes for a "cold" start. Navigation work did not cause any problems.

USB host. This smartphone supports the connection of various peripherals. We managed to connect without problems: USB flash drives, card reader, mouse, keyboard and joystick from PS3.

Video playback. Out of the box, the smartphone does an excellent job of playing various video file formats, so installing a third-party player is not required.

Battery life.

It uses a removable 3140 mAh battery. This is a pretty good indicator of capacity, but do not forget that we have a fairly powerful processor and a large IPS screen that loves to consume a lot of energy.

1. Work in the "just phone" mode, calls only. This is not the total call time, but a certain number of calls in the specified period - 35 hours.

2. Work in mixed mode: calls, Internet, video, games - 11 hours.

3. Playing an MP3 file in headphones, the maximum volume is 45 hours.

4. Video playback, sound and screen brightness for a maximum of 5 hours and 30 minutes.

5. Work in 3D applications (games), sound at maximum, screen brightness 75% - 5 hours

As you can see, the miracle did not happen and the operating time is generally the same as on all smartphones that use a battery of similar capacity.

Conclusions.

Many in our country are accustomed to calling the LG company nothing more than "skis", they say, their smartphones do not go. So I want to say that they go and go very fast and not bad. Finally, the company has created a very balanced and attractive smartphone, which is not ashamed to put on a par with the flagships of other companies. And in some models, he wins in all respects. I compared two smartphones, of course, the LG E988 Optimus G Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S4. I showed these smartphones to 20 people and asked them to choose the one they liked the most in one minute, so 14 out of 20 people chose the LG E988 Optimus G Pro. In this smartphone, we can say that there are almost no negative points and, in general, the model turned out to be very attractive and balanced.
The price at the moment in the stores of the CSN in Vladivostok is 22.990 rubles. and in the store www.technopoint.ru and at all 18.990 rubles. Here from the last price I also will be repelled. Competitors: HTC One - 21.590 rubles. - non-removable battery and no memory cards. Samsung Galaxy S4 - 21.590 rubles. - less battery capacity, the screen loses in quality. Sony Xperia Z - 19.990 rub. - the processor, the battery, the screen are worse than any comparison of the pluses is the design, materials in the construction, water protection. ZTE Nubia Z5 - 19.750 rubles. - worse battery and no support for memory cards. Huawei Ascend D2 - 18.490 rubles. - of the minuses, this is still its own unoptimized Huawei K3V2 processor and the lack of memory cards. As you can see, the LG E988 Optimus G Pro has no serious competitors. In the Novosibirsk CSN network, the price is even lower and amounts to 17.990 rubles.

PROS:

1. Very high quality screen.

2. Support for memory cards. Yes, yes, in the light of recent trends, this is a plus.

3. Good camera.

4. Universal appearance.

5. Ability to use as a remote control for controlling equipment.

6. High-quality assembly.

7. Made in South Korea.

8. Availability of USB-HOST.

9. Separate physical programmable button.

10. LTE for the future.

11. Advanced shell from LG.

MINUSES:

1. A meager delivery set for "yesterday's" flagship.

2. Slippery body.

3. The sound from the speakers wants a little louder and "more interesting".

That's all. Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this review, see you soon!

I express my gratitude to LG and CSN!

The fashion for creating simplified versions of top-end smartphones has reached LG. But unlike Samsung and HTC, the company did not release a smaller version of its flagship for users with small hands and pockets, but the same big one, but cheaper. The world, and yesterday also Ukraine, was presented with a model with an oxymoron in the name (Pro and Lite in the neighborhood look something like the living dead, an endless dead end or an ordinary miracle), a simplified processor and screen, but the same diagonal as the Optimus G Pro , and besides with a stylus and support for two SIM cards. In fact, in the G Pro Lite Dual model, LG repeats the scenario by which the L line devices have been created since 2012 - a large screen diagonal against the background of small branded competitors, a relatively memorable appearance, but at the same time a budget stuffing. And in matters of naming, it follows the path beaten by competitors, that is, it gives the smartphone the name of a flagship model (otherwise it could be some kind of L11, for example), thereby further increasing its value in the eyes of the public. This quite justifiably allows LG to put a price tag of UAH 2700-3000 on the novelty, with it it seems too boldly affordable. But let's take a closer look at the G Pro Lite.

Specifications

If there were a set of rules for a geek, then the first of them would say: "Never look at the younger models of devices from the flagship line." Indeed, by all the rules of good manners for a technically concerned public, when looking at the characteristics of all these Minis and Lites, one can only wrinkle their nose in disgust and ask: “What, what? How much, how much? Because these models are by no means aimed at a geeky audience, for which every gigahertz and ppi counts. And for customers who are loyal to the brand, sympathetic to the flagship, but do not often have the necessary funds to purchase a top-end device. Take, for example, the LG G Pro Lite, which is discussed in this review. On paper, this is a smartphone with last year's non-energy-efficient Mediatek MT6577 platform, a worthy modern alternative to which today is the MT6589 quad-core solution, a low pixel density of the screen (200 ppi) even by the standards of the price category and a passive stylus, which in the era of capacitive screens were almost forgotten. At this point, any geek on the Internet can hang his nose. But the person who comes to the store for a smartphone and picks it up will get a completely different impression of the interaction. The LG G Pro Lite has a 5.5-inch bright IPS screen (yes, the low resolution is noticeable, but in general the screen does not cause rejection), a nice body, the interface does not slow down, and the voracious processor and large display are neutralized by a 3140 mAh battery . In the hand, the device lies well, despite the obvious relationship with shovels. And it also has something that geeks don't like so much, but by no means "mere mortals" - it's a pretty and functional LG shell, which is nicer to the eye than naked and ugly Android.

Appearance

The edition was visited by a version of LG G Pro Lite with support for two SIM cards and a white case, the presentation also had the opportunity to get acquainted with a smartphone in a black case. The plastic used is the same as in the LG G2. I saw the Optimus G Pro only in black, and it seemed to me too cheap (we are talking about materials) by the standards of a flagship device. LG G Pro Lite, on the other hand, does not give the impression of a cheap device. Since I missed the announcement and did not know what was inside, based on visual impressions, seasoned with the model name and understanding of LG's pricing policy, I immediately assumed that it should cost about 3500 UAH. But the surprise with the price was pleasant.

The shape, arrangement of controls and connectors, as well as the size of the Lite version almost repeats the older smartphone. It is only slightly wider (by 0.8 mm) and lighter (by 11 g). The difference in width is due to the presence of a stylus.

Above the screen of the LG G Pro Lite is a camera eye and holes for sensors, but there is no light sensor in the smartphone, the brightness of the backlight has to be adjusted manually. An unfortunate omission.

The screen lock button is on the right, according to the good tradition of "plafonds". A pleasant surprise - the smartphone has my favorite new LG feature - unlock and lock the screen with a double tap (KnockOn). You get used to it in an hour or two of working with a smartphone, and, in my opinion, it’s impossible to get used to it in principle. Unfortunately, for some reason, in our instance, the double tap worked even worse than in the LG G2. Whether the case in Nokia 925 - there it works like clockwork.

On the left side there is a volume rocker and a "Quick button". By default, it is set to launch QuickMemo, but this can be fixed. You can assign the launch of the camera and, in general, any application from the preinstalled ones to it.

Support for two SIM cards for LG smartphones in 2013 automatically means the presence of an additional touch control key. The same is on the Optimus L5 II Dual and Optimus L7 II Dual. In my opinion, the presence of a separate button for switching the priority of the SIM card makes working with the duos more convenient. In practice, it turned out that this “more convenient” has a serious limitation in the diagonal of the screen. More precisely, in the width of the device. Because reaching the "Back" or "Home" key while holding a 5.5-inch device in one hand is impossible. With all my love for large diagonals, I never learned to do it comfortably. In addition, as a result of such attempts, I repeatedly accidentally touched the SIM card priority switch key and started sending messages from the wrong number, much to the surprise of the addressees.

The passive stylus socket is located in the upper right corner of the case (if you hold the smartphone as intended by the manufacturer). It is not to the touch. To remove the stylus from the socket, you need to aim well. Samsung and ASUS have a different arrangement, the one used by LG is also quite convenient.

On the back of the smartphone, everything is familiar: logo, camera eye, flash.

But the speaker has moved to the bottom, to the microUSB connector and microphone. The sound from two speakers is very good. This is not HTC Boom Sound, but not much weaker either.

Connectors for both SIM cards and a memory card are hidden under a removable cover. Hot swap supported.

The smartphone is assembled soundly. Thus, the only thing that I could not appreciate is the fourth control key, designed to switch the priority of the SIM card, otherwise a well-assembled case, compact in addition, emphasizes the positioning of the smartphone and makes it look more expensive than its money.

Screen

The smartphone is equipped with an IPS-matrix. The 5.5-inch diagonal has not changed compared to the older model. But the resolution has decreased exactly twice - from 1920x1080 to 960x540 pixels. The pixel density of 200 ppi is small by today's standards. I "moved" to the G Pro Lite from a smartphone with a FullHD display. At first, the graininess was very striking to me, but a less demanding audience did not seem to notice it. Already at the time of writing the review, neither the curvature of the fonts nor the grain were noticeable to me. The eyes are used to it. The low screen resolution is a typical move for LG to make devices cheaper. Almost the same performance in Optimus L7 II and Optimus L7.

The screen brightness is at an acceptable level (see table), the smartphone does not break records, but it is not inferior to competitors in its segment. In the current autumn lighting, the screen on the street remains readable under the sun. There is a suspicion that there will be no special problems in the summer.

Samsung Galaxy S4 320 0
Sony Xperia T 421 0.28 1503:1
iPhone 4S 434 0.53 818:1

The color temperature is colder than the reference 6500K, but still better than is often the case with state employees. The color reproduction is not ideal as usual (according to the results of measurements with a colorimeter), but the screen is pleasing to the eye.

Performance

The Mediatek platform used in the LG G Pro Lite is far from new. We studied its capabilities using the example of a large number of Fly smartphones that were in our editorial office last year and this year. The main difference between G Pro Lite and them is twice the amount of RAM. But additional resources are spent on maintaining a high-resolution screen (960x540 pixels already requires 1 GB of RAM) and the LG interface. Although in fairness, I note that it feels like switching between applications, as well as their launch, is faster than on smartphones with 512 MB and a display resolution of 800x480 pixels. In benchmarks, especially in graphics tests, LG G Pro Lite demonstrates a result that meets the expectations of a smartphone from a respected manufacturer in the mid-range price category.

In life, the interface works smoothly, although I installed 10 applications on it at the most and did not load it heavily in daily work. There were no problems with HD video playback, but the owner of this device will not see heavy 3D games. At most, you can run Temple Run 2 on medium settings, but the game sometimes lacks smoothness. And, of course, you can in Angry Birds, if not all levels are completed.

autonomy

The smartphone is equipped with a 3140 mAh battery. But don't get too carried away. A large 5.5-inch screen paired with a 40-nm processor is a serious burden. From a smartphone, you can safely expect a day and a half of autonomy at medium loads (many hours of listening to music, few conversations, a couple of hours of Skype or surfing, two mail accounts, a dozen or two photos) and a day with a greater load, and all two - on the weekend. This is a decent, but not revolutionary result. LG recognizes this, so they talk about good autonomy without too much pathos. Of the competitors, although not the closest, only Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 can boast of such autonomy, which costs much more.

Stylus

I reacted with great irony to the fact that the smartphone is equipped with a passive stylus. Even with active so far, no one but Samsung has been able to do something really useful. But during operation, the stylus of the LG G Pro Lite did not turn out to be such a fifth leg. It can be useful in two situations. Firstly, it is much more convenient to use QuickMemo with it to record information as quickly as possible. But I, for example, have no habit of QuickMemo. Mostly because I often use different smartphones in work and do not always quickly remember what a model from one or another manufacturer can do. The second reason is its too active promotion by the company. It is not always desirable to use something that is actively imposed by the manufacturer. So, it was the stylus that prompted me to work with QuickMemo, because without it the prospect of writing something on the screen with very clumsy letters looked completely unattractive. Pen is another matter. They are simply made for each other. pen and easier to underline necessary information on the screen, and just quickly write down something (address, phone, thought) and save it in the screenshot gallery.

Secondly, in our relatively harsh climate, any stylus will be very useful in the cold season. I believe that one such magic wand cost the company much less than a display that supports gloved operation. Even the Android touch controls respond to the stylus. The only difficult moment for winter is that you still have to take off the glove or mitten to remove the feather from the nest. But even that takes less time than writing a message, finding the right app, or making a call.

Interface

Representatives of LG in their meetings with the press regularly remind that the race specifications has almost reached its limit. And the next logical step on the part of mobile equipment manufacturers is the creation of software for which users will choose one or another brand in the future. Indeed, today you can buy an Android smartphone with a large screen size and a Mediatek MT6577 dual-core processor for about $200. LG G Pro Lite Dual will cost one and a half times more expensive with comparable characteristics. Let's see what interface options the company is ready to attract customers and form a loyal audience.

LG G Pro Lite Dual works under Android control 4.1. For a device from the flagship family, released at the end of 2013, this looks strange, while some manufacturers even budget smartphones released already on Android 4.2, and the creator of the operating system has already introduced Android 4.4. But LG understands that the target audience of this model will hardly pay attention to OS versions and the difference between them. Therefore, it makes no sense to blame the company for lagging behind.

The G Pro Lite interface is as close as possible to Optimus G Pro, for details I suggest referring to its review, so as not to be repeated here. But in the lite version, of course, the functionality is cut off. There is no cool application for video editing, and this is understandable. The processor of a smartphone is simply not capable of such tasks. The file sharing section of the menu has been shortened because the smartphone does not support NFC and Miracast. But that's where the sad ends and the fun begins. Because basically LG's interface looks fun, supports a million personalization options, and is flavored with fun themes and transition effects (although I still consider most of them to be useless pranks). All this, of course, will not replace the lack of auto-brightness and smart backlighting, but it will definitely become a source of good mood for the user of the device.

According to a very good tradition, LG smartphones receive two dictionaries out of the box - for translating text from photos and for text translation. Travelers and business travelers will certainly appreciate this bonus. In addition to dictionaries, the smartphone has its own LG SmartWorld store, a number of others proprietary utilities to manage files and applications, there is a pre-installed Twitter client and PolarisOffice Viewer.

Starting with the LG G2, “Guest Mode” appeared, in which any curious “guest”, grandson or grandmother, will only have access to those applications that the owner of the device will kindly open for them. True, for this you need to activate protection using graphic key in a separate menu in a few extra moves (horror). There are two modes available for the desktop - normal, the one that comes by default, and simple. Despite the ridiculous name, easy mode is a very useful option for beginner android users. It allows you to display typical smartphone applications on the main screen (the list can be changed over time) and a keypad for dialing. Also, in this mode, the font is automatically enlarged, since the company rightly reasoned that it would be in demand primarily by people of respectable age. The number of icons in the application menu is reduced to four in one row. By default, there are five of them. The menu with five icons looks clumsy because of the heap of the most varied in color and style of drawings, but the screen space is thus used more rationally.

For more than a year now, a proprietary keyboard has remained a fair fly in the ointment in the interface of LG smartphones. At first, the strange arrangement of letters was attributed to the small diagonal of the screen. Now there is somewhere to roam. But the keyboard still looks like it was adapted by a person who speaks neither Russian nor Ukrainian. Of course, instead of it, you can install something from Google Play, but you want everything to be convenient out of the box. In my opinion, the keyboard in LG smartphones is the worst of what is on the market for smartphones of different platforms today.

And for a snack, again about pleasant things. The interface of LG smartphones (seen for G Pro Lite and G2) has been added the function of wireless access to file system devices from a computer when both are connected to the same network. The function is hidden in the sharing and connection settings menu. With its help, you can upload music to the gadget's memory or to a memory card without dull wires. And for those who are not used to using the Dropbox service, it is also a convenient way to transfer photos to computer memory.

Thus, recently, the software pre-installed by the manufacturer in smartphones and tablets (and LG devices in particular) is really smoothly turning from incomprehensible garbage into useful features, for which it’s really worth paying extra money. In this case, dictionaries, a tool for working with files “over the air”, Qslide, QuickMemo paired with a stylus, and probably some other little things that have already become familiar and invisible, add quite a legitimate penny to the price of the G Pro Lite Dual. Just such opportunities will be appreciated not by technology pioneers, but by users far from the world of technology.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with an 8-megapixel backlit camera. What in theory should give best quality pictures in low light or at night. The camera can indeed be commended for its good results in low light, as well as for its fast performance and lack of focus problems in dim light and on a slightly moving object as well. The only thing she has trouble with is macro photography. Sample photos can be viewed in a separate gallery on Torba.

Competitors and neighbors in the line

LG sees Samsung as its main competitor, so the G Pro Lite is positioned as an affordable alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 or a stronger model against the background of another duo - the Samsung Galaxy Grand with a five-inch display. The difference in price with Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 is large (about 500-600 UAH). But in truth, the competition model outperforms the G Pro Lite in many ways. It has higher performance (important for those who like to play "heavy games"), a newer version of the operating system (important for a technically advanced audience), significantly better sound in headphones (well, it’s better, it’s just normal by the standards of a smartphone, while G Pro Lite can only save very quality headphones, the price of half a smartphone). On the LG side best time battery life, affordable price, stylus and flagship "name". But despite the fact that both models are aimed primarily at a non-geek audience, LG, I believe, has a better chance of reaching wallets. He wins in some more obvious things for a mere mortal.

However, if you are looking for an inexpensive ceiling, preferably with a credible nameplate, then you can not limit the list of possible candidates to two Korean giants. So, the 5.7-inch Acer Liquid S1 was recently introduced (wait for its review soon), it has an HD screen and a more modern processor with better performance. And if the budget for the purchase of a ceiling is running out, then you can look towards Lenovo A850. It is cheaper by 500 UAH on average, but in terms of characteristics it is inferior only to autonomy (although we did not measure it, so I can’t presume to say).

Video review of LG G Pro Lite Dual

In the dry matter

So, G Pro Lite is a good "plafond" for those who have a limited budget and do not have the opportunity to buy a top-end device with a large screen. If you do not expect miracles from him in the form of performance in modern 3D games or a screen that is close in quality to the iPhone, then you will not be disappointed. The smartphone will easily trump the owner with its excellent autonomy for the price, a decent (by the same standards) 8-megapixel camera and a pretty interface and exterior. This should be quite enough for a price of about 2700 UAH.

3 reasons to buy LG G Pro Lite:

  • you need an inexpensive branded cover for two SIM cards;
  • you like the LG interface and do not need crazy performance;
  • by the standards of the price category, excellent autonomy;

3 reasons not to buy LG G Pro Lite:

  • low screen resolution;
  • outdated platform;
  • the brand does not matter to you (you can take something from the "Chinese" with the best screen and performance).

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - device position sensor in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer, it can be controlled by various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures the angles of rotation relative to a fixed coordinate system. Able to measure rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. The gyroscope together with the accelerometer allows you to determine the position of the device in space with high accuracy. In devices that use only accelerometers, measurement accuracy is lower, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- sensor, thanks to which the optimal values of brightness and contrast are set for given level illumination. The presence of the sensor allows you to increase the operating time of the device from the battery.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to the face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental pressing. The presence of the sensor allows you to increase the operating time of the device from the battery.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the Earth's magnetic poles. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for orientation in the area.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for accurate measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine the height above sea level and speed up the location.
touch ID- Fingerprint identification sensor.

Approximations

satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System - global positioning system) - satellite system navigation that measures distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on the Earth. The system was developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine the location by measuring the distances to the object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated from the signal propagation delay time from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the GPS receiver antenna.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is intended for operational navigation and time support for ground, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that the GLONASS satellites in their orbital movement do not have resonance (synchronism) with the Earth's rotation, which provides them with greater stability.
