The DIR-320 router, like many of its "300th" counterparts, is being actively replaced by more modern DIR-6xx. It has a limited Wi-Fi coverage range and greatly reduced speed characteristics. But for small cottages, apartments and offices DIR-300 is an adequate solution.

Description and parameters of the D-Link DIR-320 router

The DIR-320 router is not much different from its counterparts, for example, the DIR-300: the same ports and connectors on the back, the display panel on the front.

Very informative display panel DIR-320

One wifi antenna indicates a limited coverage area: the router can cover two three-room apartments in a reinforced concrete house or two adjacent floors in both directions.

The "range" of the DIR-320 can only be increased by using a special narrowly focused antenna instead of the standard (detachable) one (for example, to cover a corridor or an assembly hall).

At the back is a USB port for external drives and printers. There are 5 LAN ports, one of them is for the ISP cable.

One Wi-Fi antenna and a modest multi-megabit speed

There is also a power connector and a button to reset the router settings protected from accidental pressing. The antenna is fixed on the Wi-Fi radio connector next to the USB port.

First power on and check of connection with DIR-320

First, make sure that the IP settings in the PC from which you are setting up the connection to the router are correct. As an example, checking with Windows 10.

If there are any, even incomplete changes in at least one of the IP addresses, you should restart Windows.

The router also tries to connect to the network using the default settings - as a rule, this is dynamic IP access. An open Wi-Fi network with a name in the format "DIR-320_<концовка_MAC-адреса>". If there is no Internet connection, and also you do not plan to make your traffic available to everyone around, it's time to get serious about setting up the DIR-320.

Advanced setup DIR-320

As an example - various options for the DIR-320 web interface (up to four). It's not a problem to reflash the router with any one you like if it is compatible with the DIR-320.

Changing the admin password on DIR-320

First of all, protect yourself by changing the “admin” password on the DIR-320 router to your own.

DIR-320 will restart. To further configure the router, log in again using the password you just set.

Configuring LAN and DHCP on DIR-320

Do not rush to connect the provider's cable to the WAN socket - before going online, configure the local network, such as LAN functionality, DHCP, Wi-Fi functions, etc. This will allow you not to repeat the same steps twice.

The DIR-320 router will restart with the new IP settings. Your PC or laptop from which the settings are made will automatically reconnect to the router.

Setting up Wi-Fi on DIR-320

Wi-Fi makes it possible to connect to the router not only PCs and laptops, but also smartphones and tablets.

More and more people are turning away from home PCs, preferring to use tablets and smartphones even for business purposes. Your obedient servant writes articles from a Windows tablet, which relies on a shared Bluetooth keyboard and mouse; 4G access is enabled through one of the D-Link DIR routers.

Do the following.

The router will restart with new Wi-Fi settings. Connect on all PCs and gadgets by typing just set password WPA-2 from your network.

PPPoE is a high-speed network connection protocol that uses login and password authorization. PPPoE communication is used both in cable and fiber optic, and in cellular networks.

The router will automatically go online (after a possible restart).

Setting up an L2TP connection on the DIR-320 router

The setting from the DIR-620 model is suitable here - it is identical to the 320th.

The router will reconnect to the Network via L2TP with the specified settings.

Setting up a PPTP connection with a provider on DIR-320

PPTP, like L2TP, is a type of VPN encryption. Makes it easier to bypass Internet censorship in a particular country - for example, if access to the P2P protocol is closed (BitTorrent, eDonkey, DirectConnect (++) and similar peer-to-peer network services). Roughly speaking, if the provider closed the torrents - but the desire to download something voluminous from the torrent tracker remained.

The DIR-320 will go online using a PPTP connection.

Setting up static IP on the DIR-320 router

If you have activated the "Static IP" service, you will need to configure it accordingly on the DIR-320 router. This service allows you to access your local network from the Internet (from anywhere), for example, organize video surveillance of your office or business from home.

Setting up IPTV on the DIR-320 router

The IPTV service is supported by all providers that support ultra-high-speed Internet connection via fiber optic cable. (G)PON technology allows you to get a speed of 35–300 Mbps (tariffs for ultra-fast unlimited Internet in 2017–2018).

  1. On the router, it is desirable to enable a composite protocol, for example, PPTP with dual access (in the already familiar connection settings).

    Not all DIR-320 web interfaces are limited to choosing a LAN port for IPTV

  2. Check out the already familiar LAN and DHCP settings.
  3. Give the command "Advanced - Additional settings” and enable (or check for) “uPnP” (the function facilitates the configuration of devices in a peer-to-peer LAN), “Ping polling on a WAN network”.

    Enable advanced IPTV features

  4. Check if your router has WAN port speed auto-switching, and also enable Multi-streaming and Enhanced Wireless Networking. The latter is necessary if the IPTV set-top box has USB port for connecting an external Wi-Fi module or built-in wifi adapter. Click the "Save Settings" button.
  5. Check that you have the RTSP protocol enabled by giving the command "Advanced settings - Firewall and DMZ".

    Completing IPTV setup on DIR-320

  6. Click the "Save Settings" button in this window.

The router is ready to work with the IPTV service.

The RTSP protocol is one of the multimedia broadcasting protocols on the Web. Many players work on it - from Windows Media Player in Windows before the RealPlayer program, which was used on Nokia smartphones running Symbian. It is similar to the main HTTP protocol - now it is used, along with the IGMP protocol, by the IP TV service (previously RTSP was used in Mobile TV from MegaFon, which still worked in 2G / EDGE networks).

Connect IPTV set-top box to any of the router's LAN ports, turn on the monitor. The screen should display a list of available TV channels, select any of them.

Port forwarding through DIR-320 router

Router port forwarding is needed, for example, when you distribute torrents, or install a game server on a local network.

The latter used to be widely used in Internet cafes, where one of the services was network games. Through the "admin" PC or LAN router, software port forwarding was carried out.

As an example, the updated D-Link web interface. Do the following.

  1. Switch to advanced settings and give the command "Firewall - Virtual Servers".

    Select advanced settings for DIR-320 port forwarding

  2. Add a new profile virtual server DIR.

    You will have a new profile available for port forwarding

The router will restart with the new settings. The selected ports will be open for all PCs and gadgets that connect to the Internet.

Setting up a repeater on a DIR-300 router

Full operation in repeater mode on DIR-3xx routers is impossible without third party firmware(programs OpenWRT, DD-WRT and their analogues). But you can configure the router as a "client with a Wi-Fi distributor".

As an example, the classic B-Link web interface, which was widely used during the peak of popularity of DIR-3xx routers. The sequence of actions is also correct for some DIR-6xx models.

The DIR-320 router will restart in bridge mode, connect to another router, the parameters of which it is configured for, and go online via its Wi-Fi network.

Repeater mode allows you to create a relay network Wi-Fi any length and topology. You can significantly save on the laying of "twisted pair" and FOCL by organizing Wi-Fi radio access using directional antennas and heights that dominate the surrounding area.

Reset, save, preload settings and restart DIR-320

To reset the DIR-320 to factory settings, use not only the reset button located on the back, but also the submenu of the corresponding settings. In the updated web interface, give the command "Settings - System - Configuration".

Use all these buttons to control the DIR-320 settings according to the situation

To reset the settings, use the "Factory settings" button. To save the current settings, use the corresponding button. As well as to restart the router, there is a "Restart" button.

To save the complete current configuration in separate file, click the Backup button, and choose a location to save the file. To preload a previously saved configuration, use the browse button with a panel for specifying the path of the file from which this copy of the settings will be loaded into the DIR-320.

DIR-320 firmware update

Unlike today's routers, in which the update wizard itself downloads and installs the latest firmware version, the DIR-3xx series devices use the old method - downloading a pre-downloaded firmware file over the "wire".

The firmware will be downloaded to the router's memory. Upon restart, the DIR-320 will update its firmware. It is possible that the functionality of the router will expand - functions that were not available before will be available, for example, an improved and more understandable setting of the DIR-320 in repeater mode.

Video: DIR-320 Firmware Update to Third Party LedeProject

The DIR-320 model from D-Link is a fairly popular device for creating a home wireless network. This router is often advised by consultants in stores as one of the most reliable and at the same time inexpensive. In addition, DIR-320 is used by many providers as a standard router installed by customers when connecting to Internet services.

Usually, the router parameters are adjusted by a specialist invited to bring the provider's cable into the room. However, there are situations when you have to do it yourself. To create a connection does not become an unsolvable problem, you need to know how to configure the router d link dir 320.

Installing the router and preparing the system

The router is connected in a standard way. On the back of the router case, you can find a number of connectors, among which we are interested in the WAN and LAN ports.

It is necessary to install a cable brought into the room by the provider into the WAN connector; through the LAN connector, the router is connected to the computer using the included patch cord.

Preparing the system consists in checking the parameters of the network card and the properties of the LAN connection:

WAN setup

To create a connection to the Internet, you need to get into the interface of the router. It is available at 192.168.0.1. (pair for authorization - admin / admin).

The interface looks standard for D-Link routers with installed latest version firmware:
If you set up a D-Link DIR-615 router or other models of budget home routers from D-Link, you should have already dealt with all the available sections of the interface. If this is your first experience of creating an Internet connection, then you will quickly learn how to navigate here.

PPPoE connection

In the "Network" section, open the "WAN" item to open a list of available Internet connections.

If you already have a connection, don't delete it right away. First and create a new connection. After setting up a new connection and saving the configuration, you can delete the old connection.

Leave the rest of the parameters unchanged. Click the "Save" button to return to the list of connections. A light should come on in the notification menu at the top - click on it to update the hardware configuration.

L2TP connection

If you set up an upvel ur 315bn router to connect to Beeline, then you probably encountered the need to specify the address of the VPN server. By the way, this is the only difference between L2TP and PPPoE settings. Otherwise, the procedures are completely identical.

Create a wireless network

Users who faced the need to set up Wi-fi ASUS router RT-G32 or any other router knows perfectly well what parameters you need to specify to create a wireless network at home.

When setting up the D-Link DIR 320, nothing changes in this sense:

Now you can close the router interface and try to search for the created access point from any device that has a Wi-Fi module.

At home or in a small office. Moreover, with its help, you can implement both a wireless connection of devices, and using a twisted pair. In the latter case, a limitation is imposed: there are only 4 ports, that is how many devices can be connected.

Equipment

The D-Link DIR-320 boasts the following equipment:

    user manual;

  • power supply with non-removable cord and plug;

    meter twisted pair, crimped at both ends with the corresponding lugs;

    driver disk and electronic version router documentation.

Appearance and purpose of connection elements, indication and control

Displayed on the front of the device information panel, which consists of the following LED indicators:

    Power: glows continuously during operation and indicates that the device is connected to the network.

    Status: During normal operation of the router, it constantly blinks. If it is lit continuously, an error has occurred and the device needs to be restarted.

    Internet: may simply glow continuously (when connected, but no data is being exchanged) or blinking (when connected and transmitting information).

    The next 4 ports are wired. When there is a connection, they are constantly lit, and when data is being exchanged, they flash. If the port is not used during operation, then the corresponding indicator is disabled.

    Last led indicator attached to the printer. It simply lights up continuously when a printer is connected, and blinks while the document is being output.

The following communication and control elements are located on the rear side of the device:

    antenna wireless connection;

    USB port for printer connection;

    4 LAN ports for creating a wired part of the LAN;

    input port for connecting twisted pair from the provider;

    socket for connecting the power supply;

    Reset button to reboot the router.

Choosing a place to install a network device

At the first stage, we choose the right place for installation. And here everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. On the one hand, all wires should be suitable for the installation site of the router, there should be a power outlet nearby. On the other hand, it is most correct to place the router in the center of the room: this will provide excellent transmission and reception speeds, high level WiFi signal. The router should also not be placed near metal sheets that can dampen the wireless network signal. Based on the recommendations given earlier, you need to choose the location of the router.

Sequence D-Link DIR-320

The order of this network device model is as follows:

    we assemble a temporary scheme for the initial setup;

    turn on the device and configure it properly;

    we analyze the timeline;

    install the router in a permanent place;

    we assemble a permanent scheme of the local area network;

    turn on the router;

    we test the correctness of the settings in the wired network segment;

    We check the performance of the Wi-Fi wireless network.

The router can also be configured at a permanent location, provided that a computer is constantly connected to it by wire. Since this condition cannot always be met, it is recommended to do the setting in 2 stages.

Temporary connection for configuration

The next step in configuring the D-Link DIR-320 router is to collect a temporary scheme for configuring a network device. To do this, install it next to a PC or laptop. We use the complete crimped one to connect the computer and the router to each other. We install one end of it in the port of the PC network card, and the other in any of the 4-wire ports of the router (but not the one that is designed to exchange data with the provider's equipment). We install the power supply in any nearest free outlet, and the cord from it into the power socket of the router. The timeline is ready.

Set parameters

Now you need to set software settings D-Link DIR-320. To do this, we do the following:

    turn on the connected computer and router;

    we are waiting for the computer and network device to finish loading;

    launch any of the browsers available on the PC;

    in the address bar of the browser, we type the combination of numbers 192.168.000.001 (this is the network address of our router) and press Enter;

    in response, a request will appear with a login and, of course, a password. In the first field, enter admin. Leave the second field empty for the first time. If this is not the first launch, then enter the password in the second field that was previously set;

    in the router settings interface that opens, select the “Connection Setup Wizard” item;

    then set a new administrator password and confirm it, if necessary;

    The next step is to configure the connection settings for network equipment provider. This data is provided by the Internet service provider and is usually specified in the contract. This includes the type of connection (for example, PPPoE or L2TP), login and password for establishing a connection (if required), network address static or dynamic;

    After making all the necessary settings, click the Connect button. The router will then reboot;

    after rebooting the router, go to the previously given method in the setup menu and select the item "Wireless Network Setup Wizard";

    then set the name of the wireless network at your discretion;

    the next step is to set the wireless network password. Again, at your own discretion;

    save the changes and force reboot the router.

    The preliminary setup is over, you can turn off the computer and network device and parse the timing.

    Install the router in a permanent place and connect

    Now install dlink router DIR-320 to a permanent place that best meets the previously given conditions. We pull all wired communications here: twisted pair from the provider and other devices that connect to the LAN in this way. We connect the incoming wire from the Internet service provider to the Internet port. In the remaining 4 ports we connect the equipment that will use a wired connection. We install the power supply in the socket, its cord to the router socket. After fully collecting the permanent circuit and checking the correctness of the connections, turn on the router.

    Checking the wired LAN segment

    After the D-Link DIR-320 NRU router boots up, you can test the wired part of the LAN. To do this, on any computer connected to the router using a twisted pair, go to the network settings (Start\Control Panel\Network Connections). Next, create a new connection and save it. We close all windows. We launch any browser and enter any Internet address and press Enter. After that it should open start page. If this does not happen, we check the settings, which must be configured to automatically obtain a network address.

    Testing the wireless part of the local area network

    Next, you need to check the functionality of the wireless WiFi connections. The D-Link DIR-320 router allows you to use it to transfer information at speeds up to 54 Mbps. The order of connection in this case is as follows:

      The router must be turned on and in working mode, and not in the boot phase.

      On any mobile device Activate the Wi-Fi transmitter.

      We go into the "Settings" of the device, select WLAN and click on the "Search" button. When completed, a complete list of all available wireless LANs will appear.

      We select exactly the network whose name was specified at the configuration stage and connect to it. When prompted for a password, enter it. At the same time, it is important not to confuse the administrator password on the D-Link DIR -320 and the password for accessing the wireless network. It is necessary to enter the second one, and they must be different.

      In the future, the color of the Wi-Fi indicator should change: two triangles should appear on it.

    Summary

    After the configuration of the D-Link DIR-320 router, this network device will serve you for more than one year. This operation, as a rule, has to be performed only at the first start-up of the equipment. Subsequently, it functions given values, and there shouldn't be any problems with it.
